My GF is starting to Vape to Quit Smoking
cany and 3 others reacted to VapingBeginner for a topic
Thanks guys. I told her all of you guys advice and she is finding vaping much easier. She has now gone just over 1 month without smoking, so we are both really happy with her progress4 points -
To add to the idiocy -- let's just ignore all the years people have been vaping before this "crisis" came up and we're all healthier than we've ever been... but don't let facts get in your way. SMH3 points

I work with a girl who's SO became deathly ill "due to vaping". (When I questioned her, she admitted that it was black market THC her SO was vaping EXCLUSIVELY for a week, when she became ill and then CONTINUED TO VAPE THE STUFF!) Some of the other employees were blasting vaping on the spot because of this person's illness. So I posed the question, "ok, if vaping as a whole is responsible, why am I not ill or dead? I've been vaping for nearly 6 years." The room got totally silent. Then I explained, that I KNOW what's in my juice, because I make my own. What they NEED to be upset about is WHAT this person vaped and WHERE they got it, NOT with vaping as a whole. A few of the employees actually apologized, stating, if they had known that there was black market/tainted juice out there and that could have been the cause of the illness, they would have kept their mouths shut. I just reminded them there is always more to every situation than just what you hear/see on the surface, get the facts before you blow off steam.3 points

The latest CDC report 26 dead and 1200 ill. but then they say only 75% confirmed THC. so, what, the other 25% are liars?...... of course, I'm being facetious, I have no doubt that some of the deaths may have involved vapers with pre-existing health issues and were nowhere near THC. but I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers are fudged here. I just watched a news interview with a couple who's college age daughter got I'll "by vaping" - 5 minutes of the girl's parents professing the innocence of their sweet little girl and when the interviewer pressed further, "oh well, there was that one time when we caught her vaping THC but we believe her that she is not doing it now"......right..... I don't want it to seem like I have no sympathy for these people who are actually suffering from this. I do. It's a terrible tragedy. But the truth will set us free (get ti the bottom if this). Is that too much to ask?3 points

Hey Vapor Talkers, In an effort to keep spammers in check and to ensure new members take a few moments to get acquainted with Vapor Talk's features, all new members will be required to have 3 posts before being placed into the unrestricted 'VT Member" group. How does it work? What limitations will I have when I first join the forum? When first joining the forum you be limited to posting in these sub forums: Introduce Yourself New Vapers Forum Site Features, Requests and Help Vapor Talk Store Support Forum After 3 posts, you will automatically be moved into the standard user or "VT Member" group. From there you can post on the forum normally. But how do I get three posts? What if I don't have a question? What if I want to reply on another topic! The easiest method is to simply introduce yourself (see the Introduction Forum). Say hello! At the very least, a staff member will reply. You're also free to ask a question about your new device in the New Vapers Forum. I can't find the forums you mentioned This is partly why we have this minimal restriction. For me, I didn't notice any difference at all, but that was some time ago. Since then I've cut down the nic amounts and now I vape 0 nic - when I vape at all. Working on putting that down as well but I'm in no hurry.2 points

Nice review! I just have a few questions, though. What kind of connection does it take to charge? Is it a micro USB or C connection? I couldn't tell from the pictures. Also, does it just work by taking a puff, no power button? If just a puff, how hard is the draw and is there any way to adjust the airflow? Overall, it looks pretty interesting.2 points

A Vision Spinner 2 is just the battery part (the lower part with the on/off button). The tank that holds the eliquid and screws in on top of that is what has a coil inside that will need periodic replacement, what you're calling a 'cart'. If you're using a pre-filled cart/tank, they come preinstalled with the coils inside and it does not need to be replaced. Not knowing exactly the type and style of 'cart' you're using, I can't give you more specifics than that but all the pre-filled units I'm familiar with, none of them have coils that can be replaced, they're all one piece. That said, I'm also not familiar with any all-in-one carts that are used with Vision Spinners, only tanks. Good for you to start vaping instead of smoking.2 points

My pleasure. Here is a link where DJlsb opens one up. You can see where the 510 is held underneath by a nut. That is probably loose. Unfortunately there is a good probability that the ground wire may have disconnected while the atty was spinning. You may have some soldering to do. You can watch how he puts it back together and get a feel for how much work might be involved.2 points

I read another article just today about a high school girl who became very ill after vaping. She at least admitted that she sometimes used THC cartridges... but it was only rarely. I'm with you, @Bebop. I, too, think the numbers are fudged, it's more likely to be something along the lines of 95% vaped THC and 5% were from other previous health issues. My numbers are much more likely, but that's just my opinion.2 points

When Michigan gets 2.1 billion dollars a year from the master tobacco settlement, sin taxes, and of course campaign donations while cigarette smoking is at it's lowest ever, the mystery becomes pretty clear. Add to that that Michigan issued bonds against anticipated master tobacco agreement income, and is, as always hurting for money. I'm not freaking out but I'm madder than a hornet. I've watched numerous "hearings" and they are paid political propaganda. Cherry picked panel members as well as politicians putting on a B rate movie. Hardly a thread of truth in the entire production. One panelist with a prefix Dr. called the U.K. Royal College of Physicians a couple doctors sitting around making unfounded decisions. The FDA is bumbling around obviously incapable of drafting even final guidelines. The CDC is obviously under pressure to support the political stance on vaping. Our president sites pillow talk as his decision to ban flavors. Insane!! Maniacally Insane!!! Mass media jumps in singing the same song. No wonder, every other commercial is from big pharma who has a vested interest in seeing vaping disappear. Tomorrow I have more nicotine and flavor concentrates coming in. Soon I will be set for the rest of my lifetime. In the big picture that does nothing for the countless people who will go back to analogs, the black market that will fill the void, the people who will never have the opportunity to try vaping. These decisions will kill. Good for the government as the average smoker dies 10 years sooner than the non smoker and will not be collecting social security or medicare. Leave it to the government. This time their taking a health crisis that was created by the black market and driving an industry deeper into that black market. And I'm sure the black market will do a better job of checking I.D.'s.2 points

I just want to add for edumacational purposes, youh understand... Volts vs Watts you're looking at two sides of the same equation. Watts = Amps x Volts So when you change "watts" on your device, you are really adjusting the voltage. As your "watts" reduce your voltage drops with it. If I were to draw a piss poor analogy, think of it like the equation 2 + 2 = 4. If I change the 4 to 3, I automatically have to reduce the 2 to 1. (1 + 2 = 3) the 2 sides of the equation are "tied" together. so when you change your wattage and see your voltage changing that is what you are seeing; the two sides of the equation "balancing". What we are concerned with is exceeding the amp rating of our battery. Amps are calculated by watts ÷ volts. ex: 60watts ÷ 3.7 volts = 16.2 amps. Your battery has to be rated for more than that amount or it goes *boom* This is why your battery "shuts down" at 3.2 volts minimum because you can see that if your volts dropped to 2 volts, at 60 watts you would be drawing 30 amps! yeah, *boom* A regulated mod is designed to keep the voltage constant as the battery discharges. That keeps you safe and happy. This is just a simple, practical explanation and is in no way intended to inform, insult, offend, challenge or disrespect any real electrical engineer. No real engineers were harmed in this explanation.2 points

The ones I had did have air holes in the very bottom, but I guess different brands have different designs. I tried cleaning the ones I had with rubbing alcohol, and it did help for awhile, but went bad again. About the only thing you can do is get a different setup that uses a fire button instead of depending on air flow to fire it. Don't know about the one you have, but mine had a hole through the middle of the contact pin for the air to flow, that's how juice got into the electronics.2 points

If you change your settings from TC to watts, you might get a better vape from your mod and tank. I'd start around 20 watts and take a puff. If that's not doing it for you, go up a few watts and try again until you get a harsh vape or a slight burnt taste. Back it down a touch and you should have your sweet spot for that coil. Just a thought.2 points

Pretty simple and good for summer: 3 mils Srawberry ripe TFA 1 mil dragonfruit TFA 1mil raspberry loranne 1 mil cranberry capella 1 mil sweetener I like it at 70/30. It could be good 60/40. My husband is a picky vaper and loves it, also good if you swap the percentages on strawberry ripe and cranberry. It is something you can tinker alot or a little with. That is for a 30 mil bottle.2 points -
So the point of the salt nic is to deliver high nic without being harsh? If that's the case, then I need to stop thinking I need to try it. About 3 months ago I started cutting 3mg in half. Been trying to reduce my nic intake since March of 2011 when I started vaping.2 points

You rang? First, congrats on your five year mark. I remember when you first came on to this forum... you've been missed lately. I've been trying the pods lately. Like you, I'm tired of lugging around a fist sized brick although I do still use them at home. The first pod I've tried is Vapor Talk's Amethyst with the nic salt pods. I'm in love with the size, it's perfect for stealth vaping and so easy and light to carry around. The mixed berry flavor is amazing (the kit comes with four pods - menthol, tobacco, mango and mixed berries). That said, it's small -- something like a 250 mAh? and the pods are small so they don't last long. I could live with that - to a point, but the major downside to it is that many of the pods leak ( @Christopher said they can be refilled but Vapor Talk doesn't sell the liquid by itself, you have to buy the pods). When it leaks enough to get into the battery part, the battery stops working. Chris is aware and said they're working on it but for now, the leaking pods being so expensive ($12.99 for a 4-pack), it's not my favorite although it easily could be if they fix the leak and sell liquid by itself. Bought the SV MiPod, it's a little square thing with a refillable 1 ml pod. You can refill 5 - 7 times before the coil goes out. Of course, if you're using sweeter, darker juices... you know the drill. While it's cute, I'm very disappointed in the little button (five clicks on/off), it never turns off and the vapor is hot. I've burned my lips a couple times already despite changing out the pods -- of course I bought extras! This one is a no for me. The GhoSTick is another pen style refillable pod system. The pod holds 1.5 mls of liquid, 2.0 ohm coil, 350 mAh battery and comes with the charge cord and two empty pods. All the pods take a minimum 50/50 juice. Any more VG and the coil burns up faster, too much PG and the pods leak, which is what I think is the problem with the Amethyst pods, it's too high in PG. Anyway, this is the winner so far for me. It's got refillable pods, it's a little longer than I'd like, the Amethyst's length is perfect but you give up battery life for shortness. I've been using this one a lot lately and have bought some of my favorite juices in 50/50 at 12 mg regular nic (higher nic so I don't vape it as much). I have a SMOK Infinix on its way with some extra empty pods, they should be here tomorrow. It's very similar to the Amethyst so we'll have to see how that one works. If I were to recommend one of the ones I've tried, so far I'd say try the GhoSTick and mix some juice to 50/50 and give it a whirl.2 points

Holy Crap! You're a machine today. Let's see, I've been up for about an hour and a half and I've stared at the PC monitor a lot. I did build one TC coil and tested a Cylon. I found out it runs about 40°F hot. Also discovered another battery bit the dust. 100% Sag right off the charger. Probably time to replace that one, lol.2 points -
Good for you! The "wicks" that you speak of are included inside the 0.4 ohm V8 Baby-Q2 Dual Core and the 0.15 ohm Octuple core. These two coils (or "cores" as identified here), are already pre-built heating coils with wicks included inside.2 points

@Tam nailed it. Nobody can tell you which you will like. It's also a pretty tall order to do a full comparison of the two devices. Walt is right on. I can just tell you what I do. I stick with Clapton's or fused Clapton's. I build to .28 to .35. I use a ohm meter to build on like the coil master 521 and if not sure I will check the build on a regulated mod to be sure. I will be hunting for a dead rabbit on Black Friday. What I do works for me on a series mod. Duel coil. As long as you hit the right ohms you will be ok. More ohms is better till you learn. Have fun2 points -
