  5. Regulated mods (ones where you set voltage/wattage/temperature) have a really good track record, but there's also that rare one that has a fault, or one that someone has modified or done something stupid with... Mechanical mods (where you press a button that makes the battery contact and complete a circuit) have a good track record too... IF THEY ARE USED CORRECTLY, and people aren't being stupid... like trying to fire a 0.05 Ohm coil, or using batteries that cannot handle the Amp demands their coil is pulling. Explosions were still uncommon even years ago, before battery technology became better! Like @Tam said, most problems are with cheap Chinese batteries, knock-off batteries, damaged batteries, or where someone pops a battery into their pocket or purse (unprotected) and loose metal manages to make contact between the positive and negative posts, creating a run-away discharge/venting. There's no reason to panic... your mod is 99.9999% safe if used correctly AND you are using a good, reputable battery of the correct Amperage specification for your coil needs. Stick with Samsung, LG, Sony, etc. batteries, and make sure they are at least 20A... and you should be fine for all your vaping needs.

    Before We All Panic.....

I work with a girl who's SO became deathly ill "due to vaping". (When I questioned her, she admitted that it was black market THC her SO was vaping EXCLUSIVELY for a week, when she became ill and then CONTINUED TO VAPE THE STUFF!) Some of the other employees were blasting vaping on the spot because of this person's illness. So I posed the question, "ok, if vaping as a whole is responsible, why am I not ill or dead? I've been vaping for nearly 6 years." The room got totally silent. Then I explained, that I KNOW what's in my juice, because I make my own. What they NEED to be upset about is WHAT this person vaped and WHERE they got it, NOT with vaping as a whole. A few of the employees actually apologized, stating, if they had known that there was black market/tainted juice out there and that could have been the cause of the illness, they would have kept their mouths shut. I just reminded them there is always more to every situation than just what you hear/see on the surface, get the facts before you blow off steam.

    Before We All Panic.....

The latest CDC report 26 dead and 1200 ill. but then they say only 75% confirmed THC. so, what, the other 25% are liars?...... of course, I'm being facetious, I have no doubt that some of the deaths may have involved vapers with pre-existing health issues and were nowhere near THC. but I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers are fudged here. I just watched a news interview with a couple who's college age daughter got I'll "by vaping" - 5 minutes of the girl's parents professing the innocence of their sweet little girl and when the interviewer pressed further, "oh well, there was that one time when we caught her vaping THC but we believe her that she is not doing it now"......right..... I don't want it to seem like I have no sympathy for these people who are actually suffering from this. I do. It's a terrible tragedy. But the truth will set us free (get ti the bottom if this). Is that too much to ask?

    Too harsh

@Tam and @Walt are correct... Increasing the volume of creamy flavors (Vanilla, Malted Milk, Cream, Ice Cream, etc.) will reduce the "bite" of the fruit flavors. Like Walt, I've found that certain brands of fruit flavors are much harsher than others, and some of the "candy" flavors are very citrus-acidic and artificial tasting (just like Tam said). I also prefer Capella and TFA (The Flavor Apprentice) fruit flavors over others.... CAP are some of the best IMO... I would also suggest lowering the candy flavor (or eliminating it all together) and play with the ratio of Blueberry and malted-milk/ice-cream flavorings until you find the right balance. Mix in 5ml - 10ml batches until you find the ratio you like best... then you can make gallons if it if you wish

Ok, I wasn't going to share this but it's too funny not to! This happened a few years ago. The squirrels were causing so much damage I had taken all I could take so I went and bought a couple of live traps. My theory was that I would relocate them to an area that has tons of trees and we would be good. Every day for about 2 weeks I would catch at least one and put it in the back of my truck, drive over to the park and set it loose. After the tally reached in the low 30s a friend said they were probably just coming back. The next one I caught I spray painted the tip of his tail white, relocated him, done deal. The next evening when I got home from work I noticed another squirrel in a trap. Sure enough, he had a white tipped tail!

    RDTA Help

UPDATE- GOOD TIMES!!! So I revisited the build- cut my wicks just under top of tank level- shorter length probably wick easier to coil- more cotton thru the actual coil and less in channels. Also put an extra loop on my coils as it could easy handle it space wise and changed juice. Not sure what it was- probably mixture of juice (seemed to have no flavour on the dripper too but was tasty as hell few days ago) and cotton clogging up channels but good times ahead!

All of the members on the forum could throw recommendations at you, but the only one who can tell you what you like is you. Not that I'm trying to give you a hard time or anything but flavor is so subjective. What one person thinks is perfect, it will taste like dirty socks to the next person. It will all depend on what tastes good to you. One eliquid vendor I liked a lot when I first started out is EC Blends. They have little 5 ml samples for under three dollars (usually something like $1.99 or so). You can customize the juices as much as you like. My all day vape for several years now is an almond joy flavor. I would never have guessed I'd like it this much. Ever. You might surprise yourself with what you find tasty. If you want more throat hit, you'll want a little more PG in your eliquid. This is the flavor carrier, thins the liquid and gives better throat hit. If more vapor, smoother throat hit, a little sweeter, is your thing, then go a little more on the VG. For the set up you have I would recommend going with a 50 PG/50 VG to start. You don't want to go with anything thinner with that tank. Also, at the beginning, go up a little on the nicotine. 3 mg isn't enough for someone trying to get off cigarettes. I'd go at least a 6 mg or 8 mg. If you vape too much and get too much nicotine, yes, you'll develop a headache. Just stop vaping for a little while and it should go away on its own. Make sure to drink lots of water. Vaping dehydrates you so increased water intake is a must -- not soda, not coffee or tea, or anything other than plain water. If the juice tastes a little "bad" when you increase the nicotine, then just have the vendor increase the flavor a little to mask it. Hang in there, we've all been through it. The first few weeks are especially trying because your body is detoxing from all the carcinogens that you took in with cigarettes. If you can hang in there, this will pass.

  21. I recently purchased some SS 420 wire so I could build some TC coils. Being new to this I had no idea what I was buying, all I have bought before was fused Clapton wire. To the internet I went! I tried using a drill to twist some wire, total disaster! I'm sure if I tried again I could do it but it got me thinking. Back in the day when I was racing Motorcycles (Desert) I used to safety were my spokes and had a really cool set of wire twisting plyers... I went to my tool box and there they were! The coil pictured is 3 strands of wire twisted and wrapped 8/7 at 3.5 ID dual coils at 1.7 OHM.

  22. Our friends at Health Cabin sent me a white Kangertech Juppi for review a couple weeks ago, and I think I've used it enough to post up an informed review... Stock photo... I've not taken one with my camera, sorry... First up, I like the size and recessed-tank design. It is very compact and fits nicely in your hand and pocket. The top-fill makes it very easy to keep it topped-off without having to work so hard to remove the whole tank (which isn't difficult, but isn't easy either, if you have large hands). Keeping it's 3ml tank topped-off is a chore... it does burn through juice quite rapidly due to the large cotton area and large coil design, but it does produce great clouds and flavor! The unit takes a single 18650 battery, which is something I do like... for me, it is more convenient to replace a battery quickly, rather than wait for it to recharge, or be tethered to a charging cable while I'm using it. The kit does come with mod, tank, charging cable, and spare o-rings for the tank... but no spare cotton or spare coil.... this is a bad thing in my opinion. Even the top-tanks and older subtank minis came with spare cotton and extra coils. I would think ALL starter-kits should and would come with at least one extra coil and some spare cotton, considering the design requirement of this tank? The coil design is unique as it is just a coil... a long coil in a casing to keep its shape, and you have to wrap a piece of flat cotton (Japanese cotton or cotton-bacon) around it, then slide it into the center tube. The design is simple, but very prone to leaking if you don't get the cotton just right or fully seat the coil unit. I found that out the hard way during the first week :( Another drawback to the design is that it does not like high PG juices, and even 50/50 over-wicks to the point of leaking if you don't use it for a day or two. It's sweet-spot for juice is 60% VG or higher, and works very well with max-VG juices. I've had the unit for 2-weeks, and am on my 3rd piece of cotton, but the coil is holding up very well to my "clear" sweet-tart juice in 40/60 PG/VG. The unit itself is 75W TC, and has settings for Ni, Ti, SS, and TCR in standard temp ranges (200-600F / 100/300C), and seems to work well using a Toptank Nano with Ni or 316L-SS coil. The TCR mode using Kanthal coils is a bit strange... it ramps up slow, then blasts you with warm vapor which is hotter than the temp on the dial, but it is tolerable if you dial it down. Two major nit-picks on the device... ONE, the coil (and paperwork) do not indicate what it is made of, but I was able to determine through trial-and-error and a bit of research, that the included coil is 316-L Stainless Steel, and it works very well on the SS setting for TC. The second gripe is the position of the fire-button (see picture above)... it's on the side of the unit's battery compartment, not the edge! It is also very small and difficult to hold comfortably with large hands. I find myself holding it awkwardly to use my finger or thumb to fire it, or just palming it like squeezing a ball, hoping it fires... it is NOT a great design placement for the button... much like the old MVP 2.0... Overall, I like the design characteristics of the device... small, protected tank, robust TC function, top-fill, unique tank/coil design... but it would not be my first choice for a "starter kit". Price is the biggest drawback, when you can get a 75W Platinum Toptank Mini kit for $20 cheaper... HealthCabin has them listed at $70. Another drawback is the coils... none of my local shops have Juppi coils in-stock, and they are also not available from every online retailer, even ones that sell a Juppi. It is very prone to leaking until you figure out the quirks of wicking (not a beginner skill-set), requires higher VG juices (which not everyone has), and is awkward to hold/use for larger hands. I think this device is better suited for experienced users with smaller hands, and that is proven in the fact that my 5'2" fiance says she has little problems using it So, she will be the primary user of it... just as soon as I finish this bottle of yummy juice

    Teeth

This is actually a great question and one that I'm often asked. There is an easy way to actually visually see the difference between vaping and cigarettes. Grab a smoker and some tissue. Fold the tissue in half, then ask the smoker to blow through the tissue. Ask them to do this three more times. You'll be absolutely shocked at the yellowing left behind on the tissue paper. Now, repeat the process with your e cigarette, do it 5 or even 10 times. You should notice, no stain And if for some reason there was a stain, switch liquids because I've done this test more times than I can count for people and I've never stained tissue with an e-cigarette. On a side note, as british born guy, I'm pretty self conscious about my teeth. (Cavity free my whole life!). When I was a smoker, no matter how hard I tried, I generally suffered from yellowing. These days I'm pretty happy with how white my teeth are. It's been 8 years now and my teeth look great. (And any yellowing that I do have is likely from coffee).

Just got three of the four custom HH.357 hybrid spec atomizers I sent back to Hanna to clean/repair. The fourth was beyond help so it was discarded. They're just like brand new again! On Monday I'll be shipping out two more of these for similar treatment. I probably wouldn't need to do this but I insist on using the dark, sweet juices so they gunk up faster and don't clean out as well. Great customer service has Avid Vaper. Wattage

Forget the wattage. it's not important. whatever coil you put in, set the voltage at about 3.7 V. then vape it and adjust up from there. somewhere in there you will find a sweet spot. Make a note of the wattage (watts are a product of voltage accross the resistance (ohm)) whenever you use a different ohm coil, do the same thing. If your using the same coil, vape the wattage you found works. the higher the voltage (or wattage - same difference) the more you will shorten coil life. So if you want longer life, be conservative in your power settings. A brand new coil will take higher power for a while. But you are likely to burn it out faster. there is always a trade off. I usually vape any coil I make at 3.9 - 4.2 volts and let the wattage fall where it may. (I get long coil life - 2 to 4 weeks). You can't adjust voltage and wattage separately. they are tied together. When you "raise the wattage" you are really just increasing the voltage across the coil. Raise the voltage and the watts goes up. lower the voltage and the watts go down. Its fine to remember the wattage and use that number to set your mod as manufacturers seem to realize that people focus in the wattage. But it's really the voltage you are changing. It's like a car. The speedometer doesnt make the car go. You dont "raise the speedometer", (wattage), you give it more gas (voltage).

  41. I purchased this stealthy BLACK Petri Lite mechanical mod at www.dotmod.com for $120US. I'm in no way affiliated with the company. This product was purchased by me 100% and not sent to me for review from any vendor. The matte GOLD Petri RDA (pictured) is not included, it was purchased by me separately. Yes, it's yet another Dotmod product review from me, this time a mechanical mod. Before I begin, I just want to stress that the use of this product is for those seasoned & experienced vapers who are already well educated in battery safety, have good knowledge in ohm's law, and have had experience with these types of products in the past. This review isn't education in any of those fields. If this product interests you or you feel like you would like to know more about the use of mechanical mods, I highly encourage you to watch beginner videos on YouTube, search right here in this forum for help, or maybe even ask a member for guidance. Mechanical mods are nothing to be afraid of and you definitely shouldn't be the slightest bit discouraged. A few of my favorite reasons for using these types of devices is not being "limited" by a chipset and having the easiest, most reliable vaping experience there is, period. This device will work no matter what; no check atomizer warning, no glitches due to system failures/settings, and no error codes. Just push a button and it fires, simple as that. When used maturely and properly, mechanical mods are a wonderful way to vape. To find out what I think about Dotmod's Petri Lite, let's begin now.. .: PACKAGING :. One (1) limited-edition 24K gold-plated brass drip tip Two (2) springs: 1 original Petri spring (light throw), 1 super heavy silver-plated beryllium copper spring One (1) mini Allen key for button assembly One (1) certificate of authenticity .: FEATURES :. Hard-hitting, innovative naval brass/anodized aluminum composite button design Precision anodized aluminum tube and body 24K gold-plated threading and accents 24K gold-plated copper contacts Hybrid connection Fully masked internals (no cleaning, ever) Precision micro-engravings Beautiful color finishes Individually serialized (inside of the contact, apologize for the focus) .: THOUGHTS :. Using this mod for some time now and knowing the ins-and-outs, it feels just as great in the hands as both my Dotbox's and gives me a satisfying vape every time I hit that 24K Gold button. The soft texture of the tube feels sweet in my hands, it's hard to describe. Hard, agile, sturdy but soft and lovely to touch, Dotmod bearing that "high end" effect once again, on the eyes and to the hands. The overall maintenance is very good. It's very little to maintain compared to my other silver, copper, and brass mechanicals due to the oxidation of those metals and constantly having to clean the contacts for superior conductivity to achieve the best vape experience possible. Having the 24K Gold on the contacts ensures great conductivity, great hits, less time maintaining; more time enjoying your delicious juices and blowing milky clouds. .: VERDICT - woo-hoo or boo-hoo? :. Pleased with the consistent solid performance, how the fit and finish has held up till now, it's a definite WOO-HOO from me. I highly recommend this mod to anyone just getting into mechanicals, it's beginner friendly and also great for the seasoned veteran vaper **Again, as long as you're using it safely and you don't push your batteries too hard. Always use atomizers with PROTRUDING 510 pins, definitely NO SUB OHM TANKS with this product**. I have no doubt vapers will be pleased using this device and adding it to their own collection.

    VOOPOO DRAG

I hear a lot of good things about that mod elsewhere. Personally, I'm put off a little by the name. I know, poor criteria to judge a mod. But it and the assvape atty came out about the same time and I just could not wrap my head around sticking that in my mouth. I guess the other thing that just doesn't appeal to me is the "retro" or boxy design. Don't get me wrong, it looks fine in consideration of it's intended style but for me it lacks refinement. I would be running around going "Me Grog! Me Vape!". I'm sure in another person's hand it would look fine to me.
