Conneazoo reacted to Earthling789 in Two newly converted ex-smokers!
About a month ago, I was talking to my sister-in-law, and she asked about my vaping gear... she indicated she had spent upwards of $150-200 buying BLU and something similar for her husband, but he barely gave it a try... and she wanted to know how, what I was using, worked for me. I gave her the run-down on equipment, juices, nicotine levels, and how you just have to make the effort...
So, a couple of weeks ago, I gave my brother-in-law two 950mAh eGo-T batteries, a couple of Ce4's (trying to get rid of my stockpile), a couple of EVOD tanks (which I was not using), and several of the juices I had won from Brian's 'Pay it forward' and the VT Store contests.
I didn't expect him to convert to vaping, since he was a die-hard smoker for 40 years, and had a poor experience with BLU cig-a-likes... but... To my surprise, on Wednesday of last week, he returned the batteries... but not the tanks! He has fully embraced vaping, and bought an MVP and a Vision Spinner... and a few more tanks (KPT2's)... so he was returning the eGo batteries and charger, so I could give them to someone else that may want to try vaping!
Score one conversion!
I had been talking with a co-worker about my success on quitting smoking... and she indicated that she'd love to get her husband to quit. I suggested vaping, and she said she'd mention it to him... this was a couple months ago...
On Thursday, she came up to me and said he had agreed to give vaping a try (since it worked for me), and she was asking me about equipment and juices and how to get the best bang for her buck so he'd have the best experience possible... Well, I just so happened to have two eGo batteries, charger, several Ce4 and EVOD tanks, and juice sitting on my desk at home
She came by the house on Thursday evening, and I gave her a similar set-up I gave to my brother-in-law a few weeks ago, (thanks to Brian's pay it forward gifts of juices and EVODs last week).
This morning, she told me that vaping is working for him! He ran out of smokes on Thursday night, so he gave vaping a try instead of buying another pack... and he's not had a cigarette since he picked up the eGo... he's on day 4, and she said he's been working through the cravings by hitting the vaping gear, and she said a combo of tobacco flavor and his favorite candy (butterscotch and caramel) flavors seem to be doing the trick!
Score another conversion!

Conneazoo reacted to Tam in Is this the worst coil you have seen?
Before starting out did you first wash the RDA? Sometimes the machining oils they use to build them will remain and give off a nasty taste. Don't rely on the Vamo to read ohms. They may not be accurate. Better to get a dedicated ohm meter just to be safe.
I'm also moving this topic to the general modding section.

Conneazoo reacted to sparc in I HATE lock rings!
GP Paps X and GP Paps v3(recessed switch) are one of the best switches out. Both do not use a locking ring, instead you just rotate the switch to lock/unlock. None of these have clones on the market but they do have a clone of the Paps v2.5 which is the same lock style as the v3.
Review of Paps V2.5.

Conneazoo reacted to Richstag in I HATE lock rings!
Surefire brushed knurled brass king is awesome. the lock ring operates on LARGE threads. Barely have to turn the sucker. It gets a little sticky locked in either position. Just enough not to spin of locked by accident. I can tighten them tight either way and undo it easily. I also use nyogel 760g, so that make it feel like a ball bearing. Kind of remind me of the stickiness you get from hardened titanium on hardened steel. Its a good sticky.
To get stuck unstuck, get a piece of leather and vice it down, grab the exposed with a wrapped around rubber band or grip rubber. If you are having sticking issues try some grease, but believe it or not, grease could make it worse. Grease allows threads to torque down even more due to less friction...
Good luck!!

Conneazoo reacted to CASEACE79 in I HATE lock rings!
Well part of the problem is clones. There's hardly any quality control coming out of china. Burrs in threading, crooked threads ect. But that's kind of a subject for a different time. The chi you lock ring is very nice and on the rare occasion when it does get stuck it's pretty easy to get unstuck. For locked parts of any kind, be it lock rings, sections of tubes, 510 I use either rubber dishwashing gloves (yes the yellow ones your mom used to wear) or if all else fails use a rubber strap wrench like these.

Conneazoo reacted to Joshuab3687 in Sub Ohming has gotten ridiculous.
I agree with ya Bcarter! However, when someone comes to VT that is interested in mechs in general, there are many of us that immediately start harping on safety. Other than trying to educate, there's not much else we can do. Education is only valuable to those who wish to be educated.
I sub-ohm, and I've been as low as .09. But it was too hot to vape and I didn't notice any appreciable increase in vapor versus running at 0.3. I prefer to stay at or above 0.3 now. I constantly check and recheck my builds for shorts and inconsistent ohm readings as well as my batteries for voltage levels.

Conneazoo reacted to sparc in Tobeco Kaylite wicking problems
I've tried several wick methods but the one that has worked for me is the way shown in vaperev video. No more gurgling, leaking, or dry hits.
I use cotton but in the vid they use silica. Using too much cotton will choke it at the coils. Less is more.

I'm the epitome of a "look shiny new toy" personality. $5000 in tattoos, 9 mods, 34 guitars and a disgusting amount of video games later. . .

This is one of the few places we can cut up and have fun. 18 years of being a child is not near long enough when our expected life span is 85. We joke, we kid, we derail threads. Join in! It'll keep ya young

Conneazoo reacted to Richstag in How I Maintain My Mech
I am sure there are tutorials and such but I just thought I would share how I found works for anyone just bumping along into this.
I have a short list of tools. Microfiber, q-tips, toothbrush, pipe cleaner, plastic cup, alcohol and 760g grease.
Take it all apart to bits and spray down with alcohol scrubbing with toothbrush. Let it all soak for a while in the alcohol.
Clean the inner threads of the switch and firing pin with the pipe cleaner. Give it all another good brushing then wipe it inside and out with the microfiber and again pipe cleaner. Then let it all set out to dry avoiding finger oils on the clean parts.

Then I get a nice pile of nyogel on the clean surface and apply to ALL threads, male and female, with the q-tip and again the pipe cleaner for those tiny inner threads of the switch and firing pin.

Put her all back together, spray it all down one last time with alcohol and wiper off.

Hitting so so smooth and strong.
Very happy with this set up so far.
Hope this may help some just dipping their feet into mech's.

Conneazoo reacted to 3Rutez in *Battery Limitations, Charts & Info*
We should have a thread dedicated to battery safety, so if any members have anything to add, please do not hesitate.
Battery safety is of the utmost importance when it comes to mechanical mods. Pushing your batteries limits will eventually result in battery failure. Failure could be battery life depletion, leakage, and the worst results being venting and/or explosion.
Please put safety first!
Here is a chart on current battery loads and limitations….
