I was told to start with a 12 by the stup at the b&m that I went to. I was trying to quit smoking and had worked my way down to 6 cigs a day. I hated vaping 12 because I would take one or two hits and then hack my lung up. Fortunately I DID quit smoking, but it wasn't until I talked to someone else about reducing my nic levels that I started to LOVE vaping! The flavor! The yummy delicious flavor! I can chain vape all day long now and the only thing that hurts is my bank account! I'll take it![emoji3]

I think that's a great idea.  The more we can distance our activity from e-cigarette smoking and more towards personal vaping, the less comparison people will make with analogues.

Thank you, this was very helpful. Its been a long road so far and im doing great. The only time i have one now is when a guy who used to bum almost my whole pack before offers me one. They have lost all of the taste and everything i used to like about them.

Which further promotes hypocrisy... since the insurance companies don't consider patches or gum as a "nicotine delivery device", because they are backed by big-pharma! Sad, too, because Nicotine has been proven again and again to NOT be the addictive or damaging by-product of tobacco!

I've tried all those things as well. That Zyban was great!  I didn't care for a while if I smoked or not, but that didn't slow me down.  I never ever wanted to quit.  I loved smoking but thought I had to quit after at that time about 30 years into it. It just stopped bothering me that I was smoking.   I remember hearing a doctor interviewed about smoking and he was asked how long he thought a person could survive being a smoker and he answered, "Oh I'd say about 30 years would be about the limit".  Sheesh!   Then my sig other said, "I was worried about you last night, I thought you were having a seizure".   That was the end of the Zyban for me.   NIneteen years later, I found vaping and now for more than 2 years, I've done nothing but get healthier, feeling great, running up stairs despite my knees needing replacement.  Anxiety not existent and can hold my breath underwater for almost 2 pool lengths.  As someone who was a childhood expert at playing doctor, I feel qualified to comment on this matter.

My best vaping place was riding the ski lift with my son this past winter. He was blowing clouds with his latest mech mod & RDA. Me with an IPV mini and Atlantis. Fresh powder with more coming down. And I was able to get oxygen at 11,000 feet without huffing & puffing. And no more trying to light a cig in the wind or taking off gloves to get my nicotine.

Clouds of vapor will always be seen as clouds of smoke.  for me personally i vape where ever i want.....out in the open when available and permitted....super ninja when not. People standing or sitting next to me have no idea.
However, standing in line at Disneyland, the person behind me couldn't figure out why they kept smelling pancakes(maple syrup) 🙀.

The general attitude from people is to hate the " Smoker " as a person, not the cigarette or the tobacco company like in the old days... people don't even understand how hard is to quit smoking... or they don't care....I tried a million things to try to quit smoking, and vaping is the only thing that truly works.

I cleaned and re-wicked all of my RTA's last night, and only filled my authentic Russians (with my ADV) so they'd be ready to go this morning.  This morning, I reached into my tank rack for a fresh tank, popped it onto my IPV, and took a hit... OMG.. (is someone burning feathers?)... Horrible... worst dry-hit in my life...
When I looked down at the smoking mess in my hand, I realized, I grabbed the wrong tank... I grabbed one of  the clones I had re-wicked last night (the ones NOT filled)!
I just took a 1.2 Ohm / 14W drag of pure, DRY, Organic Japanese Cotton!!
Moral of the story... don't grab tanks in a dimly-lit room... you might just get an empty one (and now you have to clean it, re-coi, and re-wick... after you stop choking to death)!

Not sure it will be the same. Barrels are usually charred and then have the bourbon/whiskey in it for a year or more. This allows the bourbon/whiskey to soak into the charred surface taking on the flavor.

To me, tapering down is as personal a thing as what setups we use, what juices we vape etc. Initially, I tapered from 18 to 12 to 6mg about every 2-3 months. I haven't gone down any further in the past 6 months or so, and at this point don't plan to. I'm good where I am.

No exact(or not exact) formula, everybody is so different. Personally I can go anywhere from 0 to 18, my only problem with the zero is the lack of throat hit, even when I doctor it up. I never had any particular reaction to cutting down nicotine, my addiction is totally hand to mouth (and apparently throat.)
I would think every couple of weeks or so should be OK, you can always keep a higher nicotine level on hand for any bad patches. Sometimes alternating the lower and higher can soften the symptoms
    BTW, congrats on six weeks!

Hi, Denise, and welcome to VT!
Nicotine is not the evil that our government and media like to portray it as... yes, it is addictive, but not nearly as addictive (or dangerous) as the 4000+ other chemicals in cigarettes.  Nicotine is not carcinogenic (proven by multiple, independent labs, including the CDC/FDA)!  There is nothing written in stone that says you must taper down your Nicotine, but if you do, you do so at your own pace... some never lower their levels, some drop 3-6mg/ml ever few months/years.  Some people like me use lower levels most days, but still keep some 18-24mg around for really bad days
Nicotine is absorbed faster when it is heated... a tank/coil combo running at 2.0 Ohms and low Wattages will not be as hot as a sub-ohm tank running 0.2 Ohms and high Wattages.  This is another reason for keeping multiple Nicotine levels around.  When I'm sub-ohming, I use 3-6mg, when I'm using a traditional tank, I'm using 9-12mg, and some days higher.  Chain-vaping or casual vaping also affect what Nicotine level you want/need... If chain-vaping, you'll want lower levels because you're getting a constant feed of Nicotine.  If you can only vape a few minutes every couple of hours (shift work), then you may want much higher levels, to tide you over between breaks?
You'll slow the Nicotine at your own pace... or not at all... either way is acceptable, but don't rush the drop if you are trying to wean yourself away totally... Drop your levels too fast, and your body will crave it, and you'll be drawn back to the analogs, have stomach issues, headaches... basic withdrawal symptoms... such as the mood swing you've already experienced

I hope this solution works for you.  It sounds like you have a good customer service oriented shop.  I'd take this seriously since there isn't much in eliquid to cause stains. (Disclaimer)  I'm not a doctor, nor have I played one on tv, but I did PLAY doctor with the other neighbourhood kids 55 years ago, so you can judge my qualifications.

I find this topic interesting.  Especially about PG and nicotine.  I've often had an O ring fail and got a bit, ok sometimes more than a bit of eliquid in my mouth and out of politeness, swallowed it.  So far the only ramifications of that is hiccups. They occur about two minutes after swallowing.  I drink a bit more than usual of what I'm currently drinking, water, coffee, beer to dilute it and the hiccups pass in about three minutes from onset.  That's it.  Of course individuals are all different, but swallowing liquid is more likely to cause absorption than dripping it on your skin.   I haven't croaked, kicked the bucket, dropped dead, bought the farm, etc. so far.  (unless you listen to the US Social Security Admin. but that's a different story.  The reason PG interests me is because here in Malaysia I've had so many many people accuse me of vaping engine coolant and are surprised when I tell them that this is Propylene Glycol, not Ethylene Glycol.  Ethylene Glycol being the antifreezing agent in engine coolant.  So many ignorant people spouting off on what they think they know.   Now, for fun, I had a duck for a pet when I was young, and no, the other kids didn't call me "duck boy", they called me much worse, but that's not the point of this.  I used to use Veggie Glycerine to keep the duck's water from freezing.  Recommended by the vet.  I could by it very inexpensively at either a pharmacy or the vet's in 1 litre bottles.  Hard to remember so long ago, but that duck lived much longer than most domesticated birds (of course wasn't used for Christmas dinner) without any noticeable health consequences.

Man I hate this new editor.  I just spent a half an hour detailing my response and locked up.   The short version follows:

sorry, I am being a little harsh on you because your post does not contain enough information to make it useful and Implies a couple of things that cannot be taken as truths.

Point #1 -  when you use the term "antifreeze",  90% of people are going to equate that with what is commonly thought of as automotive antifreeze and pg is not an ingredient in automotive antifreeze.  Also, the association of one ingredient in antifreeze is out of context and is irrelevant and alarmist.  Water is used in anitfreeze. So what. Equating chemicals with each other because they are used together is irrelevant.
IPoint #2 - PG itself has a lower freezing point than water. It is used in conjunction with other chemicals as an ingredient to lower the freezing point of fluids used in equipment where hazardous exposure of the fluids to humans, animals, foods etc must be taken in to consideration.  PG is considered benign - has no detrimental or toxic effects in relative quantities. Again, it's use as an ingredient in anything else is irrelevant.
point #3 - you call it's use in e-liquids "the biggest problem" - it's a misstatement. I don't know what you mean by that statement. You might as well say "the biggest problem" with water is it's used as an ingredient in antifreeze.  It's just absurd.
point #4 - you have no way of proving pharmaceutical grade pg is in "most e-liquid".  In fact "pharmaceutical grade" is a designation placed on a product by the USP and only sold by physicians and limited pharmacies.  It is not likeLy e-juice manufacturers are using pharma grade pg. Not impossible, but not likely.  You also cannot say it's "perfectly safe" (in the context of vaporizing it).  No one knows that and it hasn't been proven to be fact.

Earthling gave you the facts of it. I'll give you a couple of examples.

We've all gotten some of the e-liquid with nicotine on our skins when we fill a tank or accidentally open the tank and the juice just spills out. When that happens, we just go clean up by washing our hands, changing clothes (if it got that far), wiping down the battery with a slightly wet wash cloth then a dry one, wiping up any excess that may have spilled elsewhere like the floor or desk or table, etc. Use common sense and you should be fine. Nicotine is something to take care with, but be sensible, use your head and you should be fine.

Just in case this is a legit question, and not just another troll...

Everything is harmful in large enough quantities... drink a few gallons of water in a short period of time, and you could die.  Too much salt in a day, and you can die.. drink the entire keg of Guinness, and you could die of alcohol poisoning... seeing a pattern yet?

You're VAPING the same thing, so how can it be different to vape it than to get it on your skin??  Use some logic and common sense, and stop listening to the propaganda-machine of the Ministry of Public Health and the Media!!!

If you are a smoker (former smoker), getting a little e-liquid on your skin will not even bother you at all.  The Nicotine is absorbed into the skin rapidly, which is why you should keep e-liquids and e-cigs AWAY from children and pets, because exposure is rapid.  Children, non-smokers, and pets can get sick from Nicotine, because it is a stimulant (NOT A TOXIN, NOT A CARCINOGEN).

To achieve lethal toxicity levels (for an avg adult), you would have to absorb/consume 500-1000mg of pure nicotine (and many -mostly smokers- have survived MUCH higher doses).  At 1.8% dilution levels, that's 18mg per ml.... or 27.8ml (roughly a full fluid-oz) to equal a 500mg dose... or 55.5ml (roughly 2 fluid-oz) to equal a 1000mg dose.  Therefore, a few drops of e-liquid on your skin... NO, it won't poison you, but you should minimize your exposure (again, common sense)!

Those of us who regularly handle 100mg/ml bulk-Nicotine exercise extreme caution, using Nitrile or latex gloves, arm protection, goggles, and even face-masks to protect us from accidental drips or spatters.  No, a spatter of 100mg/ml is not lethal, but can make you experience nausea and vomiting, excessive salivation, abdominal pain, pallor, sweating, hypertension, tachycardia, ataxia, tremor, headache, dizziness, muscle fasciculations, and seizures.

    Interesting Factoid....

The toxicity of Nicotine in Rats is 10X the tolerance level than humans... so why are all these labs using rats/mice to study the effects of Nicotine or smoking?
