  1. I do not envy the new vaper these days. In only 2 1/2 years the market has gotten so much more complicated than when I started. I like your advice Aufin. We grew up with the changes but someone new has dozens and dozens of options more than we had and a lot of those options require a bit of experience before taking advantage of them. It's a wonder these complications don't turn some people off of vaping. Many of our "sticky" threads that contain definitions and descriptions of devices probably need a serious upgrade. my advice is buy a simple kit - a basic ego battery and a refillable tank and a bunch of coils and get started. You can find that kit right here at VT. Then, take the time to visit a good brick and mortar store and have somebody friendly show you the options available. You don't have to go complicated to get started. The noobie should probably stay away from high watt, direct to lung, high airflow devices at first as these are way different than regular smoking and the noob is more likely to want something that simulates real smoking at first. In fact many of us still use these simple devices for their simplicity.

  2. Following is MY opinion and MY opinion ONLY. For someone just starting out vaping, the setup you're interested in seems to have quite a learning curve. Tons of very good information can be had from the guys n gals on this forum, but a response to a question may take longer than you need. When I, and quite possibly the majority of everyone else, started down the vape path I/we started with beginners equipment to learn what this vape scene was all about and figure out what kind of equipment I thought I wanted to end up with. My "wants" changed a few times along the way to what I settled in with and still use to this day. MY advice would be to find a local vape shop and spend some hands-on time with someone you can have a face-to-face with and get all your questions answered at one time before spending money on high end equipment you will still most likely have to figure out along the way to your personal sweet spot. Since you're just now quitting smoking and looking to vapeing to satisfy your nic cravings, the learning period for the SVD could prove very frustrating and expensive. Start simple, inexpensive, learn, then decide. "My opinion. I could be wrong."

  3. In light of recent revelations regarding e liquids and flavorings that contain Diacetyl, Acetoin, and/or Acetyl Propionyl, I decided to start a thread where DIYers could post results of their findings about flavors they've researched. I'm currently waiting on responses from several suppliers that I use regularly, and as soon as I receive some information, I'll post it here. I urge other DIYers to do the same. Also, I'm sure that Diacetyl, Acetoin, & Acetyl Propionyl aren't the only things we need to be looking out for in our juices, so if anyone has anything they'd like to share on other potentially dangerous ingredients, feel free to share that information as well.

  4. Howdy! I've been in the vape game literally less than a week. I had been shopping them for awhile, but last saturday I went into a local shop on a whim and walked away with a kangertech subvod kit. Got juice in the shop suggested ratios of 70/30 nicotine 9. Forgive me if this is a bit long, I tend to get wordy sometimes, but I try to keep it somewhat amusing... tl;dr version at bottom. I freaking took to it like a fish takes to water. I went from a 2+ pack a day of camel lights, to 4 the first day I got it, and 1 first thing in the am sunday and monday. (strictly out of habit first thing waking up) and none since. So I decided if this was good, bigger is better. So Wednesday I went back to the shop, after checking at a couple others, and bought a fuchai 200watt box and a cloud chasers triforce tank. (supposedly this is top of the line stuff) They threw in another free big bottle of juice mixed in their suggest ratios of 10/90 nicotine 6. I was beside myself ready to play with my new toys... Now let it be known I'm not a cloud chaser by any means, after 2x years of camels, my lung capacity just ain't there. But I have no issue shelling out for good equipment since I'm saving more than a hundy a week on camels. Here's the rub. I can't get the mod to hit anywhere near as nice as the subvod. I can cloud far better off the subvod than I can the mod, and even worse, the dang triforce pukes juice non-stop. I've seen the videos explaining about the gasket in the middle and I've fiddled with it and re-seated it, and I am currently working on vaping down to a level to where I can empty it and put a spare that came with it in to see if that helps or not. When I first got it, it was puking before I even got out the store, but they said it needed to get the coil broke in and it would lessen, but that all tanks tend to leak a bit, which I can deal with to a degree, but I filled the tank today for work, and within 30min, it was half empty because it was puking it out the vents on the bottom of the tank. Again, I'm going to change the gasket and hope that helps, but I am definitely open to other suggestions. As for how the mod hits, I've fiddled with the wattage, on the first juice from purchase, iirc they suggested running it between 60-80 watts. And that was ok, but seemed harsh. They had suggested a nic level of 3 for the mod/tank but I overruled and went with a 6. Old lady got her kanger subvod by mail today so she was going to the shop for juice and I had her pick up another flavor, but upped the nic to 8. Seems just as harsh.(no worse than the first I don't think) Upped the wattage (90-150) and the vapor gets downright hot, and more flavor, but still harsh. currently running it at around 75watts. If I go lower than 65, flavor goes bye bye. So any suggestions for mix ratio and insight as to if I'm going wrong on the nic level would be appreciated too. I think tomorrow I'm going to get another bottle of juice for the mod with the nicotine level like they suggested a 2 or 3... I guess I should mention I'm running the .2 coil in the triforce. I do have the nickel coil that came with it still, and I bought another .2 so that I've got a spare. I think I've already managed to burn up the .5 that came in my subvod, and I've replaced it with another .5 but it's different than what came with it, the one that came with it was round, the replacement I got is square. I tried to switch back to the round one, but it wouldn't fire. It's running perfect on the square one currently. So now that I've typed all that up. Lets see if I can do a tl;dr version. new vaper kanger subvod is awesome running a mix of 70/30 nic 9, and doesn't puke juice. Got a 200w mod kit with triforce tank (hoping for less charging and tank refilling) tank pukes it's juice out faster than I can vape it, going to try to change the tank to coil gasket. but other ideas would be great. insight on settings would be helpful, I'm kinda fumbling in the dark. So if anyone knows this box well and has any tips on how to work the features, temp control and whatnot that'd be great, right now I can change the wattage, and lock it, thats about it. lol Juice, I think I'm going too high on the nic level for the mod, 9 seems to be perfect for the subvod with the 70/30 mix, I'm not sure if nicotine is whats making the mod harsh or if it's the mix. So insight on mix ratios would be great, I'd like to know what I can run in both the subvod and mod without damaging them or making them leaky. I'm sure I've got a million other questions but I'll try to hold off on them til later. For what it's worth I have tried researching these on various forums, but haven't really found anything that explains the why's... Thanks in advance!

    mechanical mod settings

Yep, your settings are ON or OFF, lol... the only true settings are in the resistance of your coil-builds, and if you go below 1.0 Ohms, you should be using a really really good battery. Amp-ratings of your battery are very important, as well as an Ohm-meter, when working with a mechanical mod.

  6. Hemp had it's time a year, year and half ago. most people that were using it stopped and went back to cotton. It was about the same time the Japanese Cotton started getting popular. That is why you don't hear about much anymore. Between the prep time and the flavor change you get with it most people gave up on it. I have like 8 2 gal bags full of the stuff. I sell a little from time to time, but don't see to many reorders for it. For a while it was impossible to get... now not so much.

  7. Those that blow themselves up are usually using inferior batteries, defective mechanicals, or running resistances (Ohms) far below the ratings of their battery. These are things the media leave out... they just play the blame-game on those evil e-cigs... [shakes head] Mechanicals are safe, as long as you know what you are doing and use good equipment, the right way... that being said, even a regulated mod can have issues... poor chipsets, batteries, or just stupidity by the operator... This is why we always preach about battery safety and knowing what your device can and will do. Don't let the media scare you... the media no longer reports the news or public-services... they are interested in ratings and awards, agenda pushing, and fear-mongering...

I am not really sure what you are looking at, but here are some links to places that I buy stuff: ASPIRE PEGASUS 70W BOX MOD Box only $49 Aspire Odyssey Mini Kit $49.95 Aspire Odyssey Mini Kit with Triton 2 Mini $64.95 NEW Aspire Odyssey Kit V2 $74.95 I personally can not vouch for the setup. It is still a TC box mod, therefore a bit complicated. I would recommend you getting a 5 pack of standard coils like the 1.8 or possibly the .3 and run it in Power Mode until you get used to it, and then possibly moving to the Ni200 later. I have never used the Mod or the Tank, so I really can't say if they are good, or easy to use. Hopefully someone will come along with more information. If you get one of these and need batteries, here are my goto places/batteries: LG HG2 18650, or Samsung INR18650-30Q, or Samsung INR18650-25R 18650 LG 18650HG2, 18650 Samsung 3000mAh INR18650-30Q or 18650 Samsung INR18650-25R R5 Good Luck!

  11. I was hoping it would have a SS mode for TC, but if it don't I can live with that. The preorder didn't say much more than 60w TC which is exactly what the NEBOX has. $46.00 isn't that bad of a price for a 60w TC mod with or without SS TC mode. Just wish it would get here sooner, haven't got a tracking number yet.

  14. after visiting my wife at the hospital, in for a quadruple bypass, i figured id stop at a vap shop, which i noticed on my way home, had to try something to quit cigs. the gal was very knowledgeable and let me try a few flavors, hey they seem to work so i bought a couple stater kits, me and the wife, starting vaping right then, did smoke a cig when i got home, a few next day and maybe one the next day, then couple days and then one, nothing for over a week now, just vaping. i was at 2 packs a day for about 40 years. couldn't believe how good they work, but as the gal at the store said, you do want to quit. i started out with the itaste vv v3.0 kit, she did point out a starter kit that cost about $20.00 but figured if it was going to work id get something decent. after couple weeks i also bought a itaste 134 mini and made a mistake and bought batteries for a itaste `134 (regular size) so i also bought the itaste 134 regular size model. i got deals on both these units, $40.00 each brand new in the box, so cant complain, and yes im getting a case of shinyitus, but at least i have something to show for my money, not like cig which you have nothing to show. so i say buy the itaste vv v3.0 starter kit and enjoy. remember that its need to recharge and that can take a few hours. thats the reason for my backups, plus cool to have a collection. all and all for a couple hundred bucks you can have a decent collection of vaps. sell plus batteries, and battery charger. plus plus plus. point is its 1000% better than smoking. i think 2016 the vaping is going to really take off with the older generation, 55 and above. who knows we might even see a vap off for seniors. ofcourse there will have to be a Dr nearby just in case. but im telling every one i see about how good it works.

  17. I will have to check it out. I am just not much on dual 18650 mods. I really prefer a smallish mod. The ipvD2 is just about perfect, but I am really liking the NEBOX. I wish they would improve it a bit, and re release it. A bit more airflow, and a little better programming, clean up the machining, and this would be my dream rig. I may try to drill out the RBA to get a bit more airflow. The SSOCC coils have much better airflow. I was thinking of getting a D3, but I just can't justify it.

  18. Everybody prefers what they like, I have heard that the SS coils have a cleaner taste, and don't require a break in period. I do know that Kangers new round coils for their Subtanks are going to be SS. I am waiting to get some 28g SS416L in vape mail, and will find out if I like SS.

    New all around...

Welcome to VT! Sounds like you're off and running! When we say backups, we typically mean backup tanks, coils, batteries, devices, etc. Nothing worse than being at work or on the road and having a battery go dead or a tank crack (from dropping it), or a coil go bad... The Subvod you have is nice... not my cup-o-tea since I vape tank-cracking juices and the Subvod has a plastic tank. If you like the Subvod, you'll really like the Subtank Nano and/or Subtank Mini kits... you'll get tank and APV (battery device) at the same time, and you'll have instant backups... like FXRich said, you'll also have multiple tanks that use the SAME coils, so that will save you $$, too. I have a ton of tanks and regularly vape only about 4 styles, and the Subtank mini is one of my go-to tanks daily.

    New all around...

Welcome! The mod itself is getting pretty good reviews, but I don't hear a lot good about the tank. I have never used either one. It is true, and you have seen, that bigger is not always better. If the SubVod is working good for you, I would suggest picking up a SubTank Mini or a SubTank Plus to sit on top of the Fuchai. They use the same coils as the tank on the SubVod, and will give you a bit more tank capacity. As for the settings, you just have to kind of set it a bit low and work your way up. It takes some fiddling you will find a sweet spot. The juice suggestion is correct. If you were using a Kanger Protank or somthing with lower power and airflow I would suggest 18mg nicotine, for the SubTank Nano, you are right on the mark at 9mg. The other tank 9 may be too much. As you increase the wattage, and airflow you need to decrease your nicotine level. As you are fining out, there is an overall sweet spot where you are getting good airflow, satisfying vapor, and good flavor. Normally with factory coils you as you step out of your sweet spot you start loosing things, usually flavor as you go up in power. Since you are new around here I will give you the mandatory suggestion to buy backups, and backups for backups. It will save you! Welcome to Vapor Talk and feel free to ask questions, it is the best, safest, and cheapest way to get this stuff figured out.

  21. I am with you on this! I do like mine, and will get another. The form factor is just too nice and works super for me. The bad thing is Kangar has not perfected the TC on this chip. It also has pretty muted flavor with the old style coils. I have only used one of the new style coils for a few days when it cooked itself. (Like I said the TC sucks on this mod) It is also prone to leak if you don't wick the RBA just right, and 10ml of juice is a lot to leak, or ruin if something goes wrong. I guess if you rebuild, and don't mind spending hours tweaking it to fit your build and juice, it is a good mod. If you want a grab and go, set and forget, skip this one. Hopefully if they come up with a V2 it will be better.
    1 point
  22. I totally agree with you. I have ordered another RBA, it just has not arrived. I rebuilt mine last night with Ti and it amazes me I waited this long. I normally go a week, and I have gone 2. I think I should be rebuilding a bit more frequently, the difference in flavor is amazing. I guess it decreases slowly so you don't notice how much it has gone down, until you change it.

    Who's telling the truth??

Another option would be to put cotton in the RBA that came with the kit, there are numerous videos on the net explaining how to do it. The RBA comes with a .5 coil installed, but no cotton. Of course you will have to use wattage mode. What I like about using the RBA is you never have to buy another coil. But you may buy a extra RBA.

  24. If the flavor of the 18 mg is the same as the lower mg juice, why not mix to two together to get something in between? Mix the 18 and 12 and get somewhere near 14 mg or so.

  25. Yeah I vape at 18 to 25 depending on the juice.

  26. You set it that high to start??? I've got one that I have set at 7.7W with a 1.8 ohm coil and am thinking about turning it down some more. :D
    1 point
  27. Try setting your Mod for Watts instead of Volts. I would set it for 12-13 watts to start and see how that goes. You can bump it up or down from there till you find your sweet spot.

  28. BB vs HTML......can't help ya there. As to dropping smokes, all I can tell ya is what worked for me. After finally convincing myself I needed to stop smelling up the place and annoying everyone around me I went to a vape shop, bought a double entry-level starter kit and put the last 1/2 pack of smokes in my glove box, told myself this WILL work and on 19 Apr, 13 after 50 yrs of seeing my money go up in smoke I had my last cigarette. Actually a tiny bit more involved than that, but the results are the same. So, my "tip" to anyone wanting to quit smoking would be to first convince yourself you really want to quit, find a vape shop with topshelf customer service, try every setup they will let you try, decide on a couple flavors you want to start with, buy the setup you can afford knowing that in the future you'll probably want to upgrade, so don't go overboard at the beginning till you know for sure what you're doing. There will be a small period of familiarization for the particular setup you pick. It's not rocket surgery, but it's not totally automatic for everyone, either. Bottom line.... be committed, depend on your equipment to get you thru the rough spots, and BACKUPS. Have at least two batteries and a couple tanks filled and ready to go. Don't let some vape shop sell you stuff you don't know anything about. Buy what you're comfortable with and don't walk out till you're pretty sure you know everything there is to know about what you're spending your money on. So much for a simple tip. I'm sure there'll be more from others. This is a fine bunch here willing to help. Many here know much more than i, so, any more questions, just ask.

  31. Tonight, I learned that carrying backups (spare 18650 battery) serves more than just for vaping. I was picking up my son at Boy Scout Camp tonight, and after the closing campfire we had to make our way to the "north-40" campsite to retrieve his gear. His flashlight battery was dead, and his spares were back at his campsite. I had my spare Samsung 25r battery in my backup/supply case, so we were able to illuminate the trails (with both of our flashlights) and make our way to the campsite and back to the parking lot without tripping over a tree root or bumping into a branch Just one more pragmatic reason to use CREE flashlights that operate on 18650 batteries!

    1 point
  39. This is true everywhere. If it was truly about saving lives they would ban smoking along with alcohol. The tax revenue is just too great. I am curious if they are just mounting a huge anti-vaping campaign as blackmail to enact a semi-voluntary tax. I really think they should just outlaw disease and death....problem solved. (it would be hard to enforce in the case of death)

  40. Here at Vapor Talk we get a lot of new members who have just started or wanting to start vaping. In a recent post I put all kinds of links to the most recommended hardware. The links all go to the Vapor Talk store because...it's the Vapor Talk forum and we like to support the store that allows the forum to exist. The Vapor Talk store also has some of the lowest prices around, only sell genuine brand names (no knock offs here!), and the customer service is most excellent. Here are recommendations for new vapers who need some help locating things you're not familiar with. We've all been there. It's good that you're asking questions and not running to eBay, which is not a good place to go, imo. It's all too easy to get knock offs there and you don't know it until it's too late. We see the aftermath of this all the time on the forum. Okay, here are some links: Batteries Vision Vapros 1300 mAh: https://www.vaportal...vapros-1300mah/ These are basically Spinners and new. They're just prettier than the regular Spinners is all but still great workhorses. I think they just prettied up the original Spinners and gave them a different name. Vision Spinner 2: https://www.vaportal...attery-1600mah/ You're in luck that they're even lower than before! Chargers Vision USB charger: https://www.vaportal...-rapid-charger/ These are out of stock right now but it usually doesn't take very long to restock. They should have them soon. You can also use the Joyetech charger, they work just as well: https://www.vaportal...0t-usb-charger/ AC wall adapter Joyetech wall adapter: https://www.vaportal...b-wall-adapter/ In my book, these are a must. I love to keep my computers in one piece, and there's a safety overcharge protection built into the adapters for extra protection. Tanks Pro Tank 3 mini: https://www.vaportal...ro-tank-3-mini/ These will be around the same diameter as the battery you have now as well as the Spinners. KPT2 or Kanger Pro Tank 2: https://www.vaportal...hop/pro-tank-2/ These are the full sized tanks and will make your battery and tank combo look a little top heavy (lollypop), but holds more juice. You can use the Aerotank airflow controller on the full sized tanks: https://www.vaportal...3-and-aerotank/ Replacement coils (heating element) for your tanks These are the long stemmed replacement coils for the KPT2 and KPT3 mini. Even though the KPT3 mini comes with a dual coil, you can use the single coils with no problems: https://www.vaportal...ill-dual-coils/ You can also use the short stemmed coils. These are what originally came out for the KPTs and then Kanger changed them to long stem. Some people report leaking on the short stem, I haven't had this problem except with a couple of them. Quality control isn't a priority with Chinese manufacturers so you will get a dud from time to time. https://www.vaportal...pro-tank-coils/ I would go with a 1.5 ohm or 1.8 ohm coil in either of the links above. My personal preference is the 1.8 ohm because I find that it works with the widest range of juices. The 1.5 ohm runs a little hotter than I like, but that's just me. If I forgot something, let me know. Right now, if you're on a budget, these are the things I'd recommend. Later on, you may want to look at an Aspire Nautilus or Nautilus mini with the vertical coil but those are around $24 - $26 and the coils cost more to replace. The KPT tanks are solid performers. They do have a Pyrex glass tank so you'll want to be a little careful not to break them. There is replacement glass available, though. With glass tanks you don't have to worry about what juice you're using. There are some that are known as tank crackers: heavy on citrus, mint, menthol, heavy on cinnamon... Plastic tanks are prone to crack with some of these. Glass tanks are not. If you have something you'd like to add for a noob's a la carte starter set up, please put that in the comments and I'll try to get them added here. We don't want to load up their shopping cart, that would increase their start up costs. Just the bare basics need to go here.

    Battery failure?

Have you tried any other batteries? Sometimes after a while I have heard of metal shavings getting into certain areas in the mod, causing it to conduct heat or short out, it usually happens within the button mechanism. Try taking it apart and cleaning the button assembly. I could be totally wrong, but it's worth a shot. A KTS I had for a bit had the same issue you are describing. I sold it to a guy who cleaned it really good and he said it works fine now, but who knows.
