    ^^ this ^^

Of course, wackos on the left-coast are the origin of "This product contains ingredients known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, etc." warnings on bubble-gum and tampons!

To them breathing air is the cause of birth-defects... I think they all should remember that water is the leading cause of drowning, too... and I suggest a warning label be placed on all bottled water... you know... for the children...:

"Warning, this product contains Dihydrogen-Monoxide, a chemical known by everyone BUT the state of CA to be the leading cause of drowning, and when combined with Sodium-Chloride and Selachii-Carcharodon-carcharias can be an extreme hazard, resulting in severed limbs, extreme loss of blood, and/or death."

EhPro Kayfun V4 with a chimney coil. Idea stolen from Rip Trippers. Basically turned my Kayfun into a Nautilus. 28g/9 wrap/1.4 ohm. Handles 15w without a dry hit using 50/50 Poet Dolce Miele Creama. Not huge clouds, but talk about flavor.

I have heard this and many other misconceptions about vaping. The niece that got me started...quit vaping and went back to smoking because vaping causes cancer.... (she is not too smart and neither are her friends)

I am pretty sure that vaping will cause your babies to be born naked though, sorry.

Welcome, so the basics go something like this....

With an RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer) you will need to wrap your own coils and install and wick (place cotton typicaly) through and around them in some way to allow the liquid to absorb. You will need something to check the resistance (Ohms) of the coils you build are, as well as an understanding of the limits of the device/batteries you use to run it. Simple Ohms calculators are free and easy on android phones.

Without knowing what device you plan on useing in the future, or your liquid spec (nic, pg/vg etc..) I can only say that while useing RDA's it's common to reduce the nic level to 3 or 6mg even if you use 12+ in tanks.

Others will likely chime in with more info, but please be sure all your questions are answered in some way before you start on that path. It's more about education than it is difficult. Good luck to you!

    Hello all!

I've been vaping for around a year now, and I've gone through several different phases. I started with a simple eGo-T battery and refillable clearomizers. After a while, and through some more research, I switched to something a bit better. I got a Vamo V5 (mod?) with an Aerotank V2. Loved it. Unfortunately though, after a few months of use, the Vamo has broken. That's fine, as I've been doing more research and getting ready to upgrade. The thing is, I found this whole new area of vaping that I wasn't familiar with...dripping. I suppose rebuildable units might be the appropriate term? Either way, I'm very interested in dripping. I don't understand much about it, but I think I've gotten the basics from a few videos. I get that with dripping, there is no tank or refillable cartridge to use, but rather, you directly apply juices to the atomizer, usually dripping more every few drags or as needed.

    Sooo here are my questions.

What more do I need to know about dripping to get started?

What are some good units to use for dripping?

I've never actually made my own atomizer or coils, but in a video I saw a guy threading some wire through some positive/negative poles, and then lining the area with cotton to absorb the juices and drip and what not. So, what's up with that? Do all dripping units require you to make your own coils?

Finally, what's the maintenance like on these beasts?

If I get any replies, I'll probably have more questions XD.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer my newb questions!
If I misunderstood some things above, feel free to correct me or add to it as needed. Thanks again!

Not necessarily. The T2s, when they came out, all had short stubby coils. Then, after a few weeks they released the medium length coil, then finally the long coils came out. I loved the T2 and still have quite a few of them (although they don't see use anymore), as well as quite a few boxes of the short wick replacement coils.

I bought the Amod clone from Code Vape and as usual for my luck, they've gone down in price to $24.95

The RTA is about as 1:1 as it can get, especially with the SS and glass sections. I've not tried the M-tank yet, so no clue on how it fits/performs. The spare-parts kit included at least one of every o-ring for rebuild, and the silver-plated contact spring, but oddly enough, no spare post screws... could have sworn those were included, but I just looked, and nope, not there...

Okay, I received my Kayfun V4 (AMOD Clone) today, and here's my initial impressions, and review after the first 6-hours with it....

    Unboxing -

The box, paperwork, even the "100% Genuine Svoemesto" seal make the clone look authentic. The only thing missing was the authentication scratch-off... that is, if the original even has one?

The Kayfun looks beautiful! It is well machined, smooth lines and looks sexy. It is also HEAVY!

The kit includes spare o-rings, screws, silver-plated spring, polycarbonate M-tank, REAL glass insert, and a couple of pre-wrapped 32ga coils over silica wick. They even included a key-chain screwdriver (instead of the crappy blue ones)

    Inspection -

Machining of all parts is superb! All threads are clean and smooth. No sharp edges or rough-spots like typically found on clones. All o-rings are snug-fit, no burs, or irregularities.

    Initial Build -

Even though this deck has 4 posts/screws, it is DESIGNED for SINGLE-COILS. The additional screws are to aid in mounting, using diagonal posts, to accommodate both clockwise and counter-clockwise wound coils. Yes, you can build dual-coils on it, but the deck is still small, so keep that in mind.

I built a 28ga, 1.4 Ohm coil for my first build. There are warnings in the manual to not go below 1.0 Ohm, I assume because you could damage/melt the insulators? So, if you plan to try dual-coil, keep that in mind.

I found my first issue with the deck screws... the heads are TINY, so I had some difficulty working the 28ga wire under the heads and getting them tight. Smaller wire may work better, but if you're planning to use 26 or larger gauge wire, you may want to invest in tiny washers?

There is no top-chimney to attach, so you can wick the coil with the lower chimney/shield in place (kinda nice). Stuffing the cotton down onto the deck to cover the juice ports is much easier on the V4, because the entire deck is a tiny bit wider, and the ports are taller, so there is less depth to cover.

Assembly of the tank is a breeze since there is one nut at the top, and you can get a good grip on the entire tank body to tighten things together. Insert the deck on the bottom and screw it snug.

Here's the tricky part... closing the juice flow required the use of a tiny screwdriver inserted into one of the holes to use as a prybar to break it loose the first time... after that, it was much easier to work with. Now that it is closed, pop the screw portion which holds the drip-tip, and fill the tank. Re-attach the drip-tip section and open the juice flow... a few dry-drags on the tank, and the cotton is properly saturated (if you didn't pre-saturate).

Out of the box, the air-flow control was wide-open, and after a couple of good hits on the tank (at 12W) I ended up with a dry hit and fried my cotton... NO PROBLEM... Turn it upside down, remove the deck, re-wick, re-attach the deck and you're ready to go again in 90-seconds. Try that with a full tank on an older Kayfun/Russian

To adjust the air-flow, you have to remove the 510 connection pin... don't worry, it's not attached to the deck! Pop out the 510 pin (and insulator if your screwdriver is not small enough), and insert a tiny flat-head screwdriver... you'll find the air-flow control screw up there! Take a few drags on the tank while you adjust the screw... once you have it set where you want it, re-assemble the 510 connection pin (don't forget the insulator!!!).

    Conclusion -

Overall, I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.

I would like it if the juice-flow-control section had a better grip, but it is getting easier to work with, even after a few hours. I would also like the air-flow control screw to be more accessible, but once you set it where you want it, you'll likely not be needing to adjust very often.

Flavor is exactly what you'd expect from a Kayfun/Russian style tank. I find little difference between the V4 and my Russian 91% when using the same juice, same Ohm coil, and same Wattage settings. So, no, there is no "wow factor"...

I do like the adjustable 510 pin
I do like the fact I can fill the tank without needing a screwdriver or needle-tip bottle
I do like the fact I can turn off the juice-flow to eliminate leakage when not being used or being transported
I do like the fact this tank does NOT whistle
I do like the additional screws/posts on the build-deck to accommodate more than your standard coil builds
I do love the fact I can get to the build-deck without having to drain the tank and make a mess

Bottom line is that this RTA is a winner in my book, and if you are tired of dealing with tools to fill and adjust your older Kayfun/Russian RTA's, you may want to consider stepping up to this model. If you've been thinking about getting an RTA, but were on the fence because they are "hard to learn"... this RTA will change your mind quickly!

V4 looks to solve all problems the previous generations had. No more whistle, no more draining the tank to rebuild, dual coil ready, pyrex glass center section, juice flow control, adjustable airflow, adjustable 510 pin not holding the deck down anymore, changeable connection, and clones are available already for $30 from tobeco! Soooo getting one! Love my kfl+ but my biggest complaints about it are both fixed in v4...those being whistle, and need to drain to access build deck...

Oh another new feature: top filling! Shut off juice flow and open up the top to fill...threads are recessed on 2 sides to prevent pressure build until the last thread. Once top is back on, twist the bottom to open up juice flow again.

Pbusardo has already done an excellent review on this tank.

I won't get to unbox it until after 5pm, but as soon as I get it cleaned, dried, and coils mounted, I plan to give it a good workout. Look for a review later this weekend....

Ummmm You referring to me? A lot of people call me Comp here... BTW Yes I do CC from time to time so that makes me a Dumbass? I think it is lame to insult and Judge all for the stupidity of a few.

    ------------------------
"Though the explosion occurred during a cloud competition, the mod that blew up was not owned by any of the competitors in the contest."

"the rest of the evening was hushed and subdued as conversations focused on the importance of safety"

"(added 08/20/14) A NOTE FROM THE SHOW ORGANIZER: Please note that as a precaution; we, the event organizers decided to cancel the second cloud comp that was scheduled for Sunday. In light of what happened on Saturday, we used the time to have a battery safety class. It was very well received and I believe better attention was paid due to the events of Saturday evening. The entire rest of the day’s give aways focused on encouraging people to ditch bad/unsafe batteries. Many exhibitors stepped up with valuable prizes for surrendering bad batteries."
    --------------------------------

Those that do this and ignore the safety precautions are not too bright, that I agree on. The ones that think this is toy for amusement are the ones that should think twice about those around them. This is why when new people come on the forum we emphasize safety! Most friends I have that do these competitions are extremely safety conscious. It is the few that don't do the home work and follow ohms law that blow their face off and can harm others around them.

I'm glad no one got hurt and hope this person learned a valuable lesson. Seems the people running the event were also doing the wise thing and teaching safety. Maybe what these events should have is a class in safety at every event, spot lighting things like this to show how dangerous it can be. Also add the old standby warning "This can be dangerous and should not be attempted without proper training."

But my wife is a notorious mixer, lol. She vapes down the pumpkin then puts in a little banana bread and vapes that for a while then adds some vanilka caramel....then I get the question...

    "Hmmm....not sure, hon....*puff puff*...Im thinking...frankenstine???" lol.

Im the opposite. I keep one tank one flavor and color code my drip tips.

Good news is I finally got her off platic tanks for good. We use all protanks, davides and nautilus now. Life is good.... Until I get home..."honey, what flavor is this?" ....

Okay, I've been looking at the 50W model, and I don't think I like the placement of the up/down buttons...

If you fire with your finger, you'd have to hold it left-handed to avoid changing settings with your hand... and if you're predominantly right-handed, you'll be forced to fire it with your thumb

If I were designing it, I would have left the up/down buttons at the bottom, in-line with the firing button... or at the bottom in-general.

Some of those cloud chasers are actually kind of rude. Some think just because it isn't a cigarette that it's okay to fill an area of people with a Vaping cloud. To me that's the equivalent of blowing smoke in someone's face.
