Don't kick yourself for smoking Michelle, and for sure no need to ditch your best support group for feeling guilty! Almost everyone here knows exactly what you're talking about. It's all good.

I too miss a lot of our former regulars. TSM, keenan, the list could go on. But like Chris said, that's the nature of forums. Someday I'll probably be gone too -- whenever I learn everything. One of the coolest things about VT is that our missing members are missed.

I'm going to make a half-step off topic here to say simply that this thread is a reward in itself. Just reading what you folks have to say about each other is a wonderful thing. Very cool Mark, and everyone else. VT is a great place; more than community, it's family in some way for me.

Way cool Schizo, I never thought anyone would say anything nice about me. Favor is returned brother, I'm seriously proud and happy that you got off the analogs. Check out the sales info I sent this morning, and go spend some money!

I want to mention kitsune here. She sent a bunch of tobacco flavors to me gratis, just asking that I, get this, "pay it forward" to someone else some day. How could I not shout out her generosity and community spirit in this thread? Way to go kitsune, and thanks for all you do for everyone.

Not to get all overboard and stuff, but nana and Brian have been a great support group for me, and willing guinea pigs too. My days would be pretty boring without them stepping it up for me.

But without VT, none of that would ever have happened in the first place. Vapor Talk is a very special place, and a life saver for me. Thanks Chris. And what I really want to know is, how in the world will Mark ever get all the good he's done for us, to come back to him? Has anyone ever given so much? I don't think so. Thanks Mark, you truly are a giant among men.

Edit; I realized it might not be clear who in fact I'm nominating here. My pay it forward member is kitsune; nana and Brian already know what they are to me, and Schizo; well Schizo nominated me and I wouldn't feel right hedging the odds in our favor by doubling our names in the contest. I'm sure if we were neighbors he'd keep me up all night arguing and I'd never get any sleep. But I'd learn a lot. Thanks man.

Well..let me start out by saying that I don't think I would have ever made it this far without the help and encouragement of all my friends on the "short bus". Jeffb, Ofortuna, nana, Sinikal, and a lot more who were there for me in the first weeks of my turnaround from analogs. That bus really was what I needed.
And it goes without saying that if it wasn't for Chris and all his hard and endless work on this forum that a lot of us wouldn't be where we are on this journey. Thanks so much Chris for your tireless efforts.
But I must say that my most treasured thoughts and wishes still have to go to (and it really kinda hurts to say this...lol) Mark. He's been a real help and a great friend to me. I know he doesn't ask for anything in return, but his generosity is without reproach. He has help me on my trips to the Carolina's with parts and juice, and has never once asked for anything except to "pay it forward". So although he doesn't need the mod I still cast my vote for him with my greatest appreciation.

    Thanks Mark!!!

I may make an assumption here so I will apologize ahead of time. If you are 18 or older and your parents ground you or wont allow you to make a small credit card purchase. I do apologize for making a statement that does not apply to you. If you are indeed 18 or older and getting grounded by your parents, as a token of my sincere regret, I can refer you to some terrific therapists that you may seek out in the future.

If you are under 18, it is illegal for you to purchase electronic cigarettes as it is with tobacco based cigarettes. Not only will you cause risk to yourself with the law but you will also cause risk to the vendor that irresponsibly or unknowingly sold these to you. The electronic cigarette industry has been under fire for underage users of this product and these sales to minors are being leveraged to ban electronic cigarettes altogether. For the sake of the people that enjoy or depend on these devices to rid themselves of tobacco, I kindly urge you not to purchase these devices.

On a personal and humanitarian note, Picking up nicotine in the form of tobacco is one of the stupidest decisions i have ever made and I have made some doozies. I suspect there are others on this forum that feel the same way about the horrible day when they smoked for the first time. If you can stop now, please do, I assure you, avoiding very addictive nicotine now will all you to avoid writing a forum post like I am in the future when you reach your 30's

    good luck!

Great post Burn, +1. (You too kitsune, for your wonderful community spirit! )

One thing I will add though is that I've found it much better to mix proportions by volume rather than by drops. That's because I use a lot of VG, which is much thicker than other components, hense larger drops by a significant margin. To measure by volume I use a baby medicine syringe, available at virtually any pharmacy or pharm section in the grocery store. They're usually about 5 ml. This really makes a huge difference in being able to accurately replicate other recipies. Just my .02. Mixing Madness!

I beleive it is far cheaper to DIY. My recent calculations has me at $.13 per ML, please bear in mind, I am at 8MG strenght, even 24MG would be under $.50/ml

Startup cost really isnt that bad. All you really need is dropper bottles ($.79/ea for 2dram size), rubber gloves and pipettes for transferring liquid. My Original start up costs (equipment) was under $20

For materials, I use 100MG base liquid that I get for $99 for 250ML, at 8MG strength and consuming 5ML per day, that is almost a 2 year supply. PG or VG is fairly inexpensive (make sure it is USP)as well. Many can find it locally, I just get it from online vendors. Flavoring was the key, I did not like Loranns oils very much or capellas flavorings. What I did find is that I LOVE Decadent Vapours, which is sold over at TW (Totally Wicked).

Putting the mixes together is not any more complicated that being able to count drops. You have 3 basic ingredients, liquid nic, flavoring and a dilutent. You count the drops of the 3 to make the mix. You DO want to be careful and respectful of the liquid nic power. As long as you are not reckless or sloppy about it (I make my mixes in my kitchen sink) you can be very safe.

    O.k. now for some linkage:

Here is where I got all of my supplies:

2dram plastic bottles, latex gloves, syringes, pipettes and PG/VG are all priced nicely at:

    http://www.ecigexpress.com/diy-supplies-c-3

Liquid Nicotine is purchased here, I can state from experience that the quality of the liquid is very good:

    http://myfreedomsmokes.com/diy.html

    Finally, the flavorings:

The native site of the supplier (not a store) is:

    http://www.be9.net/decadentvapours/flavours.htm
(favorite flavors include; apple pie, cafe brasiliano, french apple tart, Strawberry tart, Tiramisu, Choc o Mint, Mentholyptus and Sour Cherry)

These can be purchased at Totally Wicked
    http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/products/e-liquid-flavourings/decadent-vapours-10ml-flavour-2-product.html
(this British company ships out of the US so dont let the funny accents and bad teeth fool you)

And finally, you need to create the recipes to make your mixes. There are many but I use this one:

    http://www.tji-java-ide.com/e-cigarette/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=88

You can save your recipes, which is handy. You will see one towards the bottom called: "Decadent Vapors (Any Flavor) by Burn". That is my base recipe that I use, I created it when I was at 12 MG strength.

Whomever starts mixing their own, enjoy. Fresh juice, ability to customize and cost will all be benefits you will enjoy when creating your own.

Hi, I haven't posted here since my initial questions last Dec. '09 upon purchasing my first "kit" of the ecig.
I'm a 35 year smoker, and honestly during most of that time, I was struggling to quit. Have tried everything, from over the counter to prescription. Must add here that the prescription med (can't think of the name of it...sorry)...made me insane with anxiety!
Anyway...I purchased the ecig kit and, from the first puff, I did not want to inhale tobacco. I've been enjoying the ecig now since Dec. 09, but I am able to ignore it for long periods...like weeks!...if I choose to do so. This is something I could never have done while smoking tobacco. While addicted to tobacco (Marlboro Lights), I would wake up anticipating that first cigarette. I do no such thing with the ecig, and really forget it on all mornings. I only take a puff on the ecig for enjoyment, but it is not an addiction as was tobacco! This leads me to conclude that the tobacco companies enhance the cigarette with an extra something that is addictive! I say this only as an addict myself and my 35 year struggle.
I wish that those trying to ban the ecig only knew this truth!

As storm season hits me here in tornado alley I've started wondering about a 72 hour emergency kit (aka Bug-Out-Bag). I'm long overdue for making one, and last year was a stark reminder of that fact: 8 deaths here in my home town February 2009, only 1/2 mile away from me. I've been lucky in the fact that I've personally seen 9 tornadoes during my lifetime. Last year's 2009 disaster would have been number 10 except that it was night, so visibility would have been impossible except during the brief instances during lightening flashes, but I was huddled inside when the golf-all-sized hail started to hit.

Despite seeing 9 other tornadoes during my life, last year's incident really shook me up. Something I didn't realize until my wife pointed out the fact that I've bought about 20 flashlights since then. Now I'm starting to realize it scared the **** out of me on an unconscious level. I guess spending the night alone in the bathtub in the dark with only a piddly little AA flashlight made me realize how unprepared I am. Yeah that's right, I was born and raised in tornado alley but I don't have a storm shelter. Shame on me (but that's a totally different topic).

So besides other things, my question is this: Does a personal vaporizer really have a place in a 72 hour emergency kit? I've started to get a few items together (I'm a big fan of MREs since my brother-in-law went down to New Orleans to assist in the Katrina relief efforts, and survived off them for a couple weeks and brought some back to play with).

But do they really belong in a 72 hour kit? The only device I can fathom to include would be a home-made 3AA alkaline battery box mod (in a disaster, who's going to think to grab some 14500 lithiums?). That's no problem to make, but should I really be thinking about nicotine when that weight and space could be better suited to more food, water, tools, radios, etc?

Hey Bigjim. Yes this stuff can get kinda confusing. Let me try to clear things up a bit.

Originally, ecigs were designed to have a cartridge that holds liquid, which you are referring to as a mouth piece. It would hold a lot more than 2-3 drops. I'm not exactly sure how much liquid it holds as I have not used a cartridge in a long time. It's supposed to last you about a packs worth of analogs I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Like I said I haven't used cartridges in awhile lol.

Most people find that cartridges just don't work all that great, so we've come up with direct dripping. This is a technique where you drip 2-3 drops directly onto the atomizer. Not the mouth piece. You get about 5 good puffs then you repeat. Hence our slogan...drip, vape, repeat.

Now there's these new things called cartomizers, which I have yet to try myself. It's a 1 piece atomizer/cartridge combo that's aimed at keeping things low maintenance. They are meant to be disposable, so once it's finished you just throw it out. I've heard you can refill it though, about 3 times before it completely goes bad. And yes, this just screws right onto the battery.

Hope this helped a little and not confused you even more.

Hope I can help. Some Lorann's are oil based, but most are not. Somewhere out there is a list of all the Lorann's flavors showing which are appropriate for DIY liquid. I use Lorann's quite a bit, because they're among the most concentrated flavors there are. (This is not the list I was thinking of, but gives much the same Lorran's information.)

Another good, concentrated flavor is Flavour Art. This is sold in the US by Liberty Flights. See JeffB's thread below for info on current availability. I like their tobacco flavors quite a lot.

One of my favorite suppliers is Perfumer's Apprentice. They have introduced a nice line of flavors for vapers. I'm about to make another order from PA because some of their stuff is simply out of this world. Note that they're not as concentrated as Lorran's; they make up for this by being (my opinion) very clear and well made. I can't recommend them enough.

I've also used Fairie's Finest, which are nice but not very strong (to my taste) so I haven't used any of them more than once. Other successful DIYers swear by them though. Perhaps my taste buds aren't very well developed.

What's true for all brands of flavoring is that some by the same manufacturer are stronger than others. This is a kind of trial and error process, but it's fun.

My most important recommendation is that when you're experimenting mixing flavors, do your taste testing with 0 nic base. That way when you go "Oh Awful!" you won't be throwing away valuable nicotine. Good luck and have fun! Once you get a few successes under your belt you probably won't buy commercial liquid very often again.

Hi sensay, welcome to the light side! To get set up for mixing you'll want a few basic things. Unfortunately you can't get them all in one place. What a raw deal but that's just the deal. Actually, you probably can get most everything you need from one or two places, but there's going to be specific flavors you want that you'll have to go looking for. Here's a list of what I consider the basics:

PG and/or VG nic base, with a high enough nic level that you can cut it at least by half and still get your desired end nic strength. For example if you vape 24mg you could probably get away with 48mg base. 0 nic PG and VG. These are cheap, though PG is a bear to find except by mailorder. Flavorings. Common brands are Lorann's, Fairy's Finest, Capella, Perfumer's Apprentice, Flavour Art. I'm beginning to lean back toward Lorran's because they seem to be the most concentrated to me, which can be important if you like a Lot of flavor. Storage and carry bottles. I like to store larger quantities of everything in glass dropper bottles easy to find on eBay. 30 ml bottles would be a decent size to be handy to use but I have some 60 ml bottles for storing mixed liquid. Also 3 ml and 6 ml plastic drip bottles. Pipettes for dripping. One thing that can throw you is that different drippers have different drop sizes. You'll have to adjust your calculator for the number of drops you get per milliliter; that really varies! So using the same kind of disposable pipette can help to standardize mixing. (Disposable pipettes can be rinsed out and used many times.) Latex gloves. Mixing is messy and you don't want to get high-nic base on your skin; it can make you quite sick. A calculator for determining the volume of each component for your mix. Don't use mine, I found a math error that I haven't fixed yet. There's a thread here with a great calculator that also includes a ton of nice recipes and some 'how to' type information.
I think that covers the basics at a high level. Look through other threads here to find suppliers and many good ideas. You may hear some conflicting advice but you'll soon determine what you'll want to try first.

One thing that I'm figuring out that works well for me is to mix your flavoring together in a discrete bottle. Then you can experiment with PG/VG proportions, how much flavoring to add, etc without messing up a whole mix when you get it not-quite-perfect the first few tries. Also, you can mix with 0 nic base to test flavor and vapor properties before you commit your measure of nic base.

Good luck, have fun, ask all your questions and vape on! You found the right place.

The thing we have to do is remain united against a common foe. I for one live close to both the PA and Ohio borders this gives me a better chance than the guy stuck in the middle of the state. If need be I could set up a address point in either of those states and then send it out to any point from there. In the mean time others could try to master the art of nicotine extraction. It is a complicated process that requires sulfuric acid and a few other nasty chemicals that you need to understand how to use. Back in the day some members of my Mother's family were bootleggers, not too far south from here there are still, stills running. Not that I am telling anyone to break the law, but where there is a will, there is a way. If we share what information we glean in our endevors we may get around this at least until sanity can be restored.

I haven't killed one yet! I thought I burnt one but decided to try cleaning it before I tossed it. I soaked it for a couple hrs in some Absolute, blew it out & let it dry overnight, then filled it... it's vaping like brand new, no burnt taste at all. I cleaned my other one the same way cuz it was getting hard to draw on and got the same result, vapes like new.

Mine have the glued in caps but I used the boiling water method to pry them off so I can swipe them a couple times a day with mouthwash, I was worried about germs. I've been using the same 2 cartomizers since the 12th, so I'm on day 13 with them.

Keeping them filled seems to be the key to long life for these. I'm using tiny 3.75ml glass dropper bottles from eliquidplanet to carry my liquid in, and the dropper tip is small enough to fit in the hole & makes refilling really easy. I just use 1 to 1 & 1/2 droppers of liquid whenever the vapor production seems to die down. No mess!

    Rob,
I think you have found an excellent forum to ask questions and get info. About a week ago I found this forum and have had a wealth of infomation at my fingertips and the people here are very helpful and friendly.
I am two weeks into vaping. I started with a two part vaporizer ( SmokeTip brand) and was happy to lose the cigarettes but I was not happy with the peformance of the vaporizer. I found this forum and after asking questions here and reading product reviews I bought a 510 Tornado from Totally Wicked. It may not be the best of the best, although you would have to work long and hard to convince me that it not. The vapor production is very very good, the battery life is excellent. The Tornado is versitile ( you can use the cartridges or direct drip). So from one noob to another I recommend the 510 Tornado.
As for Liquids I have dealt with 99vapors,Totally Wicked, and Viking Vapors. All three have good Liquids and excellent customer service. As for which Liquid is better than the other. That is personal prefrence so if anyone tells you that Brand X Flavor Y is the ONE TRUE JUICE dont believe them, experiment and find what pleases you. I started off thinking that all I wanted was Tobacco Flavors becase I was replacing my nasty smoking habit but after a week or so I found that there was a slight sweet aftertaste that I liked. That was the beginning of my trying, and enjoying, other flavors other than Tobacco.
I hope this was helpful. I thought I would share my lessons learned. I am not saying that I am some sort of expert just another noob who is just a week or so ahead of you. Your mileage may vary.

This post is meant to let all of you in New York know that this is not even remotely close to being over. Even if it passes the Senate, it still is _not_ over.

Recently in Illinois we went through the same thing due to SB3174. However, the majority of the outcry against the bill didn't even take place until after it was passed by the Senate. Our bill had moved fairly fast, and this is the reason most people didn't even realize what had happened until it was already on it's way to the House. Yet in the end we were able to defeat the bill for the time being. S7234 is not as far along as ours was and therefore you have even more time to fight it than we had.

To give you an idea of what happened in Illinois I'll list the time line below. I am including the steps taken by the citizens of Illinois in protest of the bill as they happened.

    3/10/2010 Senate Third Reading - Passed; 049-004-000
    3/11/2010 House Arrived in House
    ------

It was at this point that most of the E-Cigarette users in Illinois had first heard of the bill. There were many here that may have thought it was too late at that point to even fight it. Letter's went out to representatives and authors of the bill from concerned Illinois citizens. And as was found later, letters of protest came in from people living in other states as well.

Further people were alerted after an article was run by the Chicago Tribune.

3/11/2010 House Chief House Sponsor Rep. Marlow H. Colvin
3/11/2010 House Placed on Calendar Order of First Reading
    3/11/2010 House First Reading
3/11/2010 House Referred to Rules Committee
3/17/2010 House Added Alternate Chief Co-Sponsor Rep. Eddie Washington
3/17/2010 House Added Alternate Co-Sponsor Rep. Joseph M. Lyons
3/17/2010 House Added Alternate Co-Sponsor Rep. Karen A. Yarbrough
3/22/2010 House Assigned to Human Services Committee
3/23/2010 House Added Alternate Co-Sponsor Rep. Naomi D. Jakobsson

On 4/14 a hearing was scheduled in Springfield. In a fairly impressive show of protest, Illinois E-Cigarette users attended the hearing and were given a chance to speak against the bills passage. It was noted that the officials at the hearing seemed to take what was being said to heart and perhaps even begin to question their own reasons for signing the bill in the first place.

The hearing ended with no final decision and a preliminary date for a follow up hearing was listed to take place on 4/21.

On 4/15 there was yet another update to the status of the bill as the chair of the Human Services Committee removed her name as a Co-Sponsor of SB3174.

4/15/2010 House Alternate Co-Sponsor Removed Rep. Naomi D. Jakobsson

The plan after this was to show for the following week's hearing in even greater number than the first. Surprisingly enough, it didn't even get that far as no notification was given that SB3174 would even be called on 4/21.

    4/23/2010 House Rule 19(a) / Re-referred to Rules Committee

On the 23rd it was essentially dismissed from the current senate session as explained by Rule 19(a). And in the end a follow-up hearing wasn't even needed. It can pop up again if it is re-introduced in a future session but as of now we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Anyhow, I just thought those of you in New York would like to see how the same situation panned out here in Illinois. Even if just to give you a little more hope when it comes to your chances of defeating the bill.

On my end, I will be writing a letter or three as a concerned Illinois citizens in support of E-Cigarette users in New York.

    Greetings All!

(sorry, that was to be "Who knew there WAS fda drama..."

I am brand new to the forum, and brand new to ecigs (and in love btw).
I wanted to share my thoughts, my 2 cents... well maybe 5 cents.

I come to you from the land of autism and vaccine controversy
--let me say up front I refuse to discuss that here, here is not the place to tell me my opinions are wrong, this is not the place to debate it.
I just want to give you some background on my beef with the FDA and other gov't "regulatory" bodies.
There are lots of parents just like me who saw vaccine damage in our kids. We aren't dumb, we aren't crazy fringe people.
Most of us have clinical and lab evidence on our sides along with biological plausibility.
Vaccines carry risk, in our country we choose the "herd immunity" method, and even vaccine manufactures will acknowledge that sometimes people take one for the herd.

B/c of this we fight... the CDC, the FDA, big Pharma, etc. We want safer products, true informed consent, and a safer vaccine schedule/program.
Are we asking for too much. Apparently so.

I was surprised to learn that the FDA was trying to ban ecigs, but only for about 1 nanosecond.
Most of you are hitting the nail on the head. Money rules.

Who stands to lose? Tobacco Companies for one. THAT is a HUGE lobby in Washington... Big Pharma... probably the biggest lobby!
--As a smoker I don't want a patch or gum, I want something to put in my mouth and drag on. I am not even a big nicotine addict, heck, for my refills I ordered zero nicotine liquids. For me it was the hand to mouth habit. So, bye bye gum and patches and Chantix and Zyban.
Let's not forget the taxes on cigarettes that are paying for children health care in every single state. (more on that in a minute)

And of course, all the politicians take contributions from Tobacco and Pharma, and those directly in their pockets.
This is a tough group to go against. And right now, the ecig community is SMALL. --comparatively small. So the FDA is trying to strike RIGHT NOW while, essentially, no one is looking. But in the end, ecigs WILL WIN.

    1. Vaccines are the sacred cow, I am not sure we will ever "win" --too many see them as essential and safe and necessary for survival. The vaccine battle that I fight will go on for decades.
    2. Everyone knows cigarettes are HORRIBLE for you. They are "death hasteners" ANY product seen as a "safer" (not SAFE, safER) alternative will win out in the court of public opinion. (Though, as far as I am concerned these are safe) Ecig users MUST start educating all their family and friends and people we come into contact with about ecigs --Hell, I suppose I should get with the rest of you and STOP calling them "e cigs" and call them vaping devices.
--like I said, the FDA is moving quickly now b/c they don't think that enough people CARE!! Make sure they do! b/c the first thing my mom said when I told her about this was, "Of course they want to ban them, it's all about the money." The public at large needs to be educated.

Start SHAMING them. Ask them, "Why do you want me to stop breathing in water vapor and go back to burning cigarettes?"
Frame the question to point out how ridiculous they are being!
educate, educate, educate. I think this issue will hit its tipping point pretty quickly the more that everyone, smokers and non smokers understand just HOW this product compares to regular cigs... CAN someone make a comparison chart? List the % of "toxins" found in ecigs versus regular cigs? b/c that would be a hilariously lop-sided chart.

I could go on and on, but perhaps more of my thoughts and opinions will come out in the replies, so I will stop, b/c I am the queen of rambling, BUT...
I wanted to point out something that made me laugh --the whole anti-freeze thing...
Did you know that Antifreeze is in vaccines? Diethylene Glycol is in some childhood vaccines. Along with many other toxic substances and heavy metals.
I will keep this little nugget close to my heart and be sure to bring it up the next time I am telling off someone all up in my face about vaccines

--oh and my thought on taxes. I do think these should be regulated, to an extent --but I wonder about the "sin" taxes. If the FDA regulates this as a nicotine/tobacco product are they going to TAX the hell out of it... Will they find a reason to tax water vapor?

From what I understand it's longer with longer carts. Which of course = longer cart life. Yes it should work with normal 510 batteries as I believe it's the same fitting.

I believe the same as above.

Yes they should work fine with any 510 battery although I would imagine because the resistance is lower it would suck up battery life a bit faster. The point of low res atties is to give a "5 volt feel" while using a 3.6 volt battery. (Get's hotter faster)

I'll forward this thread over to Word Up to make sure.

I'm a former Kool full flavor smoker (as well as Newports on occasion), and had difficulty finding a satisfying juice. Since you're a heavy smoker, you'll probably want a super-high nicotine fluid. The best I've found to satisfy my nicotine/menthol/throat hit need is Tasty Vapor's Tobacco Menthol in 48mg strength. It's absolutely superb. He only sells in 1 fluid ounce sizes, so if you don't like it you'll throw away a lot of juice, but it's cheap at $15 per oz. I really can't see any heavy menthol smoker not finding it satisfactory.

Welcome apathy. I too agree with the recommendation of the 510. It is a small unit. About the size of a 100 cigarette. But as others have already stated, the battery life is not great. Only one to one and a half hours at best. If you don't mind charging batteries all the time, that's no problem. You could always have several on hand. You can even buy a charger from Totally Wicked that charges five batteries at a time.

If you don't mind something slightly bigger, I would also say go with the eGo. I have one and I think it's the best. The batteries do cost twice as much as the regular 510 batteries, but they last six times longer - or more. Well worth it in my opinion. The battery itself is about twice as big around as the regular battery, but overall the unit is still small. Only slightly bigger than a regular cigarette. And it's a very classy looking unit. Not big and bulky at all, nor does it look like a detonator or flashlight. It is light weight, portable, and can be easily hidden in your hand.

As far as taste...that's a matter of preference. I wasn't a menthol smoker, so I can't help you with that one, but someone is surely going to pop up here to help you with that. You may be able to find something close.

And there you go...one popped up while I was writing this.

They're not health promoters, they're control freaks on an anti-addiction crusade. They don't want safe alternatives, they want people with the temerity to become substance addicted to suffer. It's a Puritan thing - "Poison not thy fleshly temple pilgrim, or suffer thy God's eternal wrath!" They've mistaken themselves for deities.
