    I am vastly unprepared!

No time like the present to start stockpiling... a little at a time... new tank here, mod there, battery or two, liter of liquid supplies... and in no time you'll have a nice shelf-full of goodies (and a freezer full too)!

@Adversarious1 I've lost count on my mods and tanks, but I can tell you there are 5 regulated mods (3 TC and 2 VW), a dozen 18650's,  and 15 tanks on my desk at the moment... plus two mechs and a dripper within an arm's reach :)  I do know there are 2 each unopened TopTank Mini kits and Subank mini kits on the shelf too... not to mention all the things I don't use anymore (or very often), lol.  I make my own juices and have enough PG/VG/flavor supplies to make about 2.5 gal of liquids (and enough Nicotine to make 20 gal of 6mg or less).  Last count of coils exceeded 200 sealed (horizontal 1.2 and 0.5 Ohm ST-mini coils) and plenty of wire to re-build my empty heads or go back to building RBA or RDA coils.

I could use a few more gallons of PG/VG and a few liters of flavorings... and another 1000' of wire, but I think I'm good to go for a few years! :D

  2. The mods are basically the same, with the 80W being capable of Temp Control in TCR mode (SS, Nichrome, etc.), where-as the 40W will only do Ni/Ti coils, if memory serves...  It is possible that you switched your mod from TCR to Ni mode or Ti mode (or some mode-change) which would change the way the mod handles power to the coil?

If you are using it in Wattage-mode, then there is no difference between function of the two, other than the 80W being capable of providing more Wattage :)

  3. If you go with 20% flavor, the best ratio you'll get is 20/80 PG/VG in your mix, and that is assuming you'll be using any Nicotine (in VG base).  For your mix, I would start with a small batch (10ml) at 10% (1ml) flavor and 90% (9ml) VG (and whatever Nicotine if you are using it).  If the flavor isn't there for you, you can bump it up to 15% or 20%, but be aware  as you increase PG (flavor) you'll decrease your VG in the ratio.  Another solution to weak flavor would be to try a different brand of flavoring.  Some brands are more concentrated, some are sweeter, etc.... so you have to use a bit of trial and error to find what suits you best.

One thing I've also learned is what tastes great in one tank won't taste the same in others... so I do mix some flavors specifically for use in a certain tank, because I know the flavor will be optimized for the tank/coil combo I'm using.  So, what I'm saying is if it doesn't taste like you expect in your Arctic V12, you may try a different tank/coil combo and just "see" how you like or dislike it there?

  4. When I first started vaping, I would burn through a meager 2-3ml per day using a basic Kanger tank (KPT2 or KPT3-mini).  The dual coil burned a tiny bit more juice, but I quickly grew to love the flavor of the dual-coil.  As I have progressed, I've gone from 1.8-2.2 Ohm coils... down to 0.1 Ohm quad-builds... and today I'm perfectly happy with my Subtank Mini using a 1.2 Ohm coil at 15-18W.  I still burn through about 30ml per week which is not much more than I did when I first started vaping, but when I was sub-ohming, dripping, and experimenting with coils... that is when I started making my own juices... because I was ripping through 90-120ml per week, and at $15-18 per 30ml bottle... that was getting too expensive... cigarette expensive :)

  5. One little trick to keep the black markings on the sides of the syringe is to cover them with Scotch Tape.  The tape will prevent the markings from rubbing off and is washable (for a couple times anyway), and then you replace it.  It will make the markings last 10-20 times longer, so you get a lot more life out of your syringes ;)   I've heard of some people covering the markings with clear nail-polish, but I've not tried that method yet, so I've no idea how well it works/lasts.

You can also pick up syringes at your local surgical supply store

Good point... and you can also score some freebies from your local Health Dept.  Thanks to the don't-ask-don't-tell drug-guidelines, if you ask for some, they have to give them to you.  Yes, they are usually just a bag full of 1ml syringes (and paperwork for rehab locations, etc.).  You can keep the standard needles and grind them down, or do what I do and leave them with the receptionist :)  And, if you know someone who works there, you can get them to toss in some additional sizes too, especially if you let them know you are using them to measure liquids accurately (and not get high) :D

  7. 14ga is fine for most things, but you will find pure VG will be a little rough through them.  For pure VG, I prefer NOT using a needle, but if I have to, I try to stick to 10ga or even larger.

For flavors or pure PG, you may even find 16ga or 18ga to be sufficient (for less dripping or drops slipping through).

You got that right!  It got up to a whopping 13 degrees yesterday.  Just the thought of going out for a "smoke" made me shiver.1f632.png

There's an old joke that "Wind-chill" was invented by a meteorologist that also smoked...  The dialogue went something like this:

Meteorologist:  "I'm going out for a smoke"

Producer:  "It's cold out, better bundle up... the thermometer says 10-F"

Meteorologist:  [Jokingly]  "I think I'll strip down to my underwear and see how cold it 'feels"... that will give people a better idea on the effect of wind on your skin" [strips and goes outside to smoke]

Producer:  [after a couple minutes - pokes head out  the door]  "So, what's it feel like?"

    Meteorologist:  "F-F-F-F-Feels more like t-t-t-t-two"

Producer:  "You better come in before you catch pneumonia"

    Meteorologist:  "I w-w-w-w-ill ... in a m-m-m-m-moment... gotta f-f-f-f-finish t-t-t-this cigarette...."

    :D:D

  9. I recently made a 600ml batch of 30/70 PG/VG mix, with 25% flavoring... and yeah, it seemed to be a ton of flavor (150ml total) and only 30ml of additional PG.

When you mix a 30ml bottle with 20% flavor, you don't think much about the volume of flavor because 6ml is so low, but when you multiply that by 10 or 20 for larger batches, it does seem like a lot, lol.

I've had to double-check my math before too... especially after mixing one of your juices that is only 15% flavoring, and then mixing an even larger batch of one that is 25-30% flavor... it does seem like a ton of flavoring when you're mixing really large batches :)

  10. The short answer is the control circuitry steps the voltage up by drawing higher Amps... this is why you need to make sure you are using high quality, high Amp batteries in your mods.  In order for your mod to step up to 75W with a single 18650, it can draw upwards of 20A+ (depending on the mod's chip-set and the charge-level of the battery).  Most mods have safety built-in to prevent them from exceeding a specific Amp range, just like they won't fire coils below a specific Ohm rating.

@jasonculp did a really good write-up on how the chip-sets bump up Wattage, Amp load on batteries, etc. and can give you a much more detailed answer... but suffice it to say, the mod's chip-set does a lot more than just display the Ohms, Voltage/Wattage, and battery-level :)

my mod is 40w, so the only one i can go with is the M2 right?

Your mod can only fire coils down to 0.3 Ohm, so yes, the M2 is the only one that will fire on your device... but even then... that is the absolute lowest, so if the coil dips to 0.29 Ohms or lower, you'll get an error and it won't fire.

For your mod, I'd recommend something with coils available in the 0.5 ohm range or higher... like the Subtank Mini :)  Your current CoolFire IV will work with a Subtank Mini or Nano as-is, and will be an inexpensive upgrade tank.

If you want to use the TFV8 to it's fullest potential, you'll need to invest in a mod that will fire coils down to 0.1 Ohm, and capable of 75W minimum?  There are plenty of them out there for under $30, and even more options for under $50....

  12. I was just about to suggest the TFV8, as well as the Kanger Subtank Mini...both are good, but the TFV8 is a bit more suited to bigger clouds, higher VG, and more power.  The subtank mini is just a great all-around tank, with lots of coil options to suit your needs.

I personally like 120ml bottles, except for the lack of ability to fill tanks directly from them. I order juice in 120ml bottle when ever I can. I have a couple dozen 10ml and 30 ml bottles I fill from the 120ml bottles for when I need portability. I would probably order larger bottles if available for my favorite flavors. Black Night, King of Churn and Crown Jewels have slowly begun to be my go to flavors over the local B&M juices, but VT juices are $3.00 more per 30ml, so if the price was closer due to  bigger bottles, I would most likely be buying more VT juice. I generally "treat myself" on weekends with the VT juices.

I agree larger bottles usually cost less per ML, usually because you're only getting one bottle (less packaging expense), lol, but also because they discount "bulk" size to entice you to buy more for a few pennies extra.  I would have bought my juices in 1-L size if they were offered like that ;)  Today, the industry standards (based on consumer demand) have pretty much become four main size bottles... 10, 30, 60, and 120ml.

I think what @Christopher was getting at was still offering discounted pricing for volume purchases, but providing the actual product in several smaller bottles, rather than one or two large bottles?  For example, if you order 240ml, you'd get eight 30ml, four 60ml bottles, or two 120ml bottles, rather than one 240ml...  From a stocking standpoint, of an item with a shelf-life, having to carry multiple sizes is a nightmare in the stockroom, so I see the beauty of only stocking one or two sizes of bottles... only 30ml, 30 and 60ml, or 30 and 120ml sizes... and configuring orders to accommodate those size combos.   It will keep the stockroom easier to manage and will ensure all products shipped have a longer shelf-life for the consumer.

Years ago when I managed a grocery store, people would often ask "why don't you stock 2oz jars of X or 2-gal jugs of Y?".  The short answer is that they go bad sitting on the shelf because they are not a high-demand item, and in the long-run, stocking six different size jars of Mayo (and a dozen different brands) just doesn't make good logistical or economical sense, when 99% of the shoppers generally pick up the standard or economy-size (double-size) jar, despite having other size options :D

So, What I'm trying to figure out here is, if we starting offering say 90/120/240ml options etc but you are receiving say 3,4 or 8 30ml bottles, would that be an issue?

When I use to buy my juices locally or online... I would frequently buy 240, 300, or 600ml at a time, and they nearly always came in 30ml bottles... with rare exceptions of getting 60, 100, or 120ml bottles if they had them in stock.  More often than not, though, 30ml was the standard in-stock sizes, and I actually appreciated having many, smaller, more manageable bottles around... so I could leave one at work, one at the cabin, one in my backpack, and store the rest in the fridge.  If I ordered 600ml and it came in a 500ml and 100ml (or five 120ml) bottles, I'd have to divvy it out into smaller bottles on my own?

Even today, mixing my own juices in 300-1000ml batches... I still pour the batches into 30ml and 60ml bottles for convenience and portability.   The largest bottles I use for storage are 120ml bottles.  Even when I break down a liter of Nicotine base for freezing, 120ml (or smaller) bottles are used for freezer storage so when I pull one out for mixing a batch, I'm not exposing large volumes to the atmosphere, causing Oxygenation degradation of the whole batch.

  15. Sounds like the cotton is over-wicking and flooding the coil?  You might try re-wicking with a thicker piece... one that fits more snug in the coil and that might slow the wicking process (and the popping) because it is tighter in the coil?  Also, if the "wings" of the wick are causing the issue, using a thinner piece of cotton may do the trick as well... so there is less surface area of cotton and therefore less wicking on the sides.  Different brands of cotton wick differently... faster, slower, hold more per cubic-centimeter, etc.... so when you use a different brand, you have to play with the amount you use and the way you wick your coils.

Out of curiosity, what brand of cotton is giving you the issue?

  16. @FXRich is correct... the BDC will work with the subtank mini, but not the Nano :(  As for your question on square OCC vs round SOCC, they both will work in the subtank nano or mini.  I've heard the toptank nano prefers the round SOCC, but I've not tried a square OCC in mine, so I can't say if they work or not.  I can say that both coils work perfectly well in the original subtank mini or nano.

  17. @Foofightervapegirl  If memory serves, the Genitanks had issues, and were made of chrome plated brass which caused flavor issues over time.  And, $45 for a Genitank is highway robbery... I've seen them as low as $12 before, and a quick search from a few sites online show them hovering around $15 (which is still high, IMO)...

The AeroTank V2 is the same design (same size, design, and same airflow controller base), and is made from solid stainless steel... less problems and a reliable/proven device.  The BDC (dual coils) she has now will work in the Aerotank.

BTW, the Subtank mini and Toptank mini are a very good choice for an upgrade over the Genitank/Aerotank, with much more room for growth (larger capacity, more coil selection, more airflow choice, etc)... if you were considering suggesting a different tank?  Also, I've used the BDC coils in my subtank mini without issue... they're a tight draw, but they do work, so she'd still have a good use for her remaining coils.

  18. Walt, you're experiencing the same thing all of us have gone through at one time or another...   Years of smoking not only cause a memory effect from repetition, but they also create a chemical dependence in your brain, and it takes time to rid yourself of those chemicals.  Think of it like Stockholm Syndrome, where you begin to have affection towards your captors/torturers... the analogs have become your friend for many years, and it's hard to say goodbye overnight without reminiscing and remembering those fond moments ;)

The way to power though is to vape your higher Nicotine juices to quell those cravings... and YES... talk about it.  We are your "Group Therapy" session here, so feel free to vent or just talk about your success/failures of the day.  We're here to listen and encourage, not judge... we've been there, and can tell you it will get better and easier in time.  Some of us passed that first major hump in a few days... some took months... but never get discouraged!  We're here for you :D

  19. I've seen the Tesla Three, but never tried one... mostly because I prefer replaceable batteries and "adjustment" on my mods.  I like the fact it has a big capacity (5000mAh), and the circuitry has a 40A cut-off, but the fact it throws a constant Voltage (much like a mech-mod, but doesn't drop off after every hit) does keep me from owning one... Many of my juices like a Wattage that puts my Voltage requirements in the 4.2-5V range, which I believe is lower than the output of the Tesla Three, which would mean my juice wouldn't get enough "juice" to produce the vaping experience I prefer.

I'm glad you're liking it... They're well made and from a reputable company, so don't take my desire to not own one as a negative... vaping is personal, and that mod just isn't for me ;)

  20. @Edna You said the batteries seem "fatter"...  Are you 100% certain your Sony batteries are "authentic"?  I only say that because the Sony VTC5 were probably the most counterfeited battery in the past couple of years :(   Fatter batteries may or may not indicate a counterfeit, but to me it would be a reason to have doubt....

I have four (authentic) VTC4 left, and they are all still functioning near-new after 2.5 years (and over 300 charge cycles), which is actually better than a couple of my LG HE2's (which seem to lose charge pretty fast these days), despite them being only a year old and have gone through only 100-120 charge cycles.  Even a couple of my Samsung 25R (blue) are starting to wear down in capacity, but they still hold out 3/4 to all day, and they're all 1.5-2 years old with well over 200 charge cycles each.

I've heard others say their RX 200, 200s, or 2/3 behave the same way (lasting only a day or less, even with 3 batteries), and others may get a couple days, but I suspect they are using a much higher resistance coil, or aren't chain-vaping it?  High battery drain and the size/weight of it... along with always having to carry 3-6 extra batteries instead of 1-2... have been the reasons I've not bought one, lol.   Then again, I'm perfectly happy vaping my 1.2 Ohm coils in a 50-75W single-battery mod... TC or Wattage-mode... I'm good either way :)

  21. I'm glad you're finding enjoyment in your new-found vaping experience!  It will quickly turn into a full replacement for analogs, and then into a "hobby", lol...  You'll find yourself looking at all the new shiny stuff and wanting more and more... we call it "a bad case of shinyitus" :D   But, in the long run, you'll spend less and less on vaping, and begin to reap the monetary rewards of vaping, too, which is keeping up with your (diminishing) Nicotine demands for FAR LESS MONEY than you EVER spent on analogs!

I have been analog-free for nearly 3 years, and my annual vaping expenditure (I don't call it a budget any more) is just a couple hundred dollars now... mostly for supplies such as coils, wire, and DIY juice materials (Nicotine, VG, PG, and flavorings).  Yeah, I still splurge on a new tank or MOD from time to time, but those are just rewards for being a non-smoker, and to replace aging or dead/dying/broken equipment.  Hard to believe I use to spend my annual vaping "budget" in just 5-6 week's worth of analogs!
