i wouldn't use that vg, just to prevent any taste issues.

you can get a diy kit over at this link http://www.diyflavorshack.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=3
flavors you can throw into the diy kit http://ecigsmokestore.com/flavors.html
i know the prem kit comes with a bag of menthol crystals. a little goes a LONG way.

the kits may/will come with a 18 gauge syringe, i would add on the 16 gauge into your order because straight VG is a B** to suck up into an 18g
though i don't see the 16 on her site. the pipettes that come with it should work fine though

on page 4 of the diy accessories she has 3 packs of 10, 6, and 3ml bottles. grab 2 orders of each.
if you rather have child safety ones they are on page 5 but only come in 10ml, i think.
also if you rather have menthol drops they are on page 6.
i like the crystals better myself.

New Customer use the code "newtoyou" 10% Off
Free Shipping on $100.00 orders or more "freeshipping"

look around on the site and pick out anything you think you may want.. don't have to get what i advised but if i were to buy that's some of the things i would snag.

for mixing, more throat hit you want pg, more vapor vg.
    personally i like 20% vg, 80% pg.

if you cant taste the stuff at vt i would have to say that maybe the flavors vaped might not have that strong of a taste. the coffee kind should but vanilla is a hit or miss kind of thing.
as far as vanilla goes, vanilla bean is by far the best. but i couldn't taste it much. that however was when i first started and was using carts that came with my kit from volcanoecigs. kit carts are crap anyways though.
it very well could be that your taste buds are shot right now.

try caramel candy from vaporbomb. that stuff is good! also you can leave them a note when ordering to amp up the flavor a bit.

if nothing else, drop your nic amount and try out 5 volt mods. that's almost all i use/sale.
you can try a LR atty but they don't really taste or feel the same as 5 volts.

i have straight menthol. i don't care for the taste so what should i add? all flavor is from loranns.

    strawberry-kiwi
    cherry
    coffee
raspberry (haven't tried at all, thinking i am not going to like the flavor)
    english toffee
    caramel
    root beer

also have grape and watermellon but i am pretty sick of the watermelon and grape didn't really taste good with menthol.

How long does a standard non mod, 510 battery last? What is a good price for replacements?

there are different kinds of "standard" you have the stick kind of batteries that are made to look like a cig. those last about 30-60mins per charge and then take about 2hrs to charge. you have the ego standard battery, might get about 2-4hrs per charge.

How long does an atomizer last 510 basic? What is a good price for them?

mine that i bought threw valcanoecigs.com lasted me 90+ days before i boiled them in vinegar till the vinegar bunt down to nothing but sticky ash.. yeah, that stucked. anyways i'm sure they would have lasted a lot longer, had i not killed them.

Are you better off buying starter sets once in awhile or do you just buy replacement parts?

that all depends on your current needs.
if you just need a battery and some attys just get them. if your charger, battery(s), and w/e else are on the fritz i might consider a kit.

How do you store liquid?? How do you store FILLED cartridges? How do you know what liquid is in each cartridge, everyone says smell it, but honestly my smeller does not work that well, any other ideas?

i just leave mine out. if you buy a huge stock pile, toss them into the fridge.
keep them in the package that says what they are. it will be a box and inside the box will be the carts.
most people don't use carts and stick with dripping into attys or buying juice and filling empty cartomizers.

What do you always have as a back up? Like how many and what?

batteries, batteries, batteries! attys, attys, attys! cartos, cartos, cartos! juice, juice, juice!
now i use mods, so i dont really need to go snagging a ton of batteries. but i have 5 at all times (used to be six but a friend needed one). last thing you want is not to be able to get a drag.

How long will you be able to stand my questions.................hahahah

    1) Do I smoke this thing like a regular cigarette? (By that I mean sitting outside with a book in my lap for a 7 minute stretch?)

you "vape" it as much as you want. most of us when just hanging will vape a few times and put it down. i call it Nic On Demand.
not to say you couldn't just vape it for 7mins but that doesn't always tend to happen.

    2) How should I store it between sessions? Should I leave the cartridge on? Do I pull the cartridge/atomizer combo and slide the battery back into the cigarette case? , etc.

take the battery and atty apart. you don't want to burn out an atty or catromizer by accident.

    3) The nicotine amount seems about right... 18 mg per cartridge. I smoke about a pack a day so... 20ish mg? 1 maybe 1 1/2 cartridges a day?

the nic content is different for everyone. some that smoke a crazy amount will opt for low nic or you may have people that smoke lights that want high. i smoked marb light menthols and started at 12mg then 18mg and i hit the sweet spot for me at 24mg.

    4) Any GENERAL tips tricks and hints would be good. I know buy a new couple of atomizers and batteries because these will eventually clog/die...

if your fine with your setup, you already have the idea with attys or cartomizers, and batteries. if you feel you would like to last longer between charges, look into something with a higher mAh rating. ego/tornado or a mod. if you are lacking that "monster hit" feeling check into a 5v mod.

    5) Thank you for any and all responses! This will really help!

thanks for keeping yourself informed. the more you know the more you can educate people about them to help others.
if you have time check out some of the other noob posts. myself, and many others are usually in there replying to the main things people need to know, along with things they may want to look into.

#1 Do I need to go ahead and order a stock of empty cartridges?

i would buy double of what you think you need, much like when you're out camping and collecting firewood.
cartridges are a pain, they can flood your atty, leave juice inside that cant get to the atty.. etc
look into cartos, much better design, can be refilled, and are much cheaper to buy.
you can buy cartomizers for about $1 for blanks (not filled with juice) they can be purchased off the vapor talk store and work with your ego.

#2 How long can I refill the preloaded ones for?(All I will have are the preloaded ones)

the carts, as long as you want. the basic setup uses an attomizer and cartridge. the cart is just a plastic mouth piece with a place that the juice sits. the juice is held in with a filler that will remind you of cotton or fiberglass.

#3 Is it just the wick in the cartridge that goes bad?

the coil actually goes bad, and that is located in the atomizer or bottom of a cartomizer.

#4 has anyone tried to find a suitable wick substitute for repacking cartridges?

the wick is in the atty, under the bridge, wrapped in a coil, the coil is the heating element.
as for the cartridges, people use the blue foam used for fish tank filters. here is an image of this product

for me, it's a messy thing to deal with. if i want something that holds juice i'll just do a cartomizer.

#5 Is there any need to have the 2 eGo's or is it just a convenience thing?

you wouldn't need two egos. you want at least 2 batteries, and 5 atomizers or cartomizers around at all times.
if you have the ability to order more, do it.
it's a good idea to have a PT (passthrough) so that way you don't need to always have a battery charged and vaping on
PTs are powered by a usb connection.

#6 How many drops on average does it take to get the equivalent of an analog (avg. being 5 minutes)

when vaping you're not going to end up vaping for 5mins and then put it down. pretty much what happens is you pick it up, vape a few times and then put it down.
that's one of the things i love about vaping, i don't feel required to finish what would feel like an entire smoke.

#7 Is there any other "must have" equipment?

Q-tips, i'll end up being the only person ever to say that is a must have. people send me "dead" batteries for me to make mods with all the time. i haven't had but 2 dead ones in the 20 that i have received so far. most of these people never clean the battery threads and then it makes zero contact, or such a little bit that it cant power the device. after you are done using the ego clean the threads out, before charging clean the threads out. also clean your atty threads.
now if you are going to go diy with juice that's another story.

#8 Is there any thing you can think of that I need to know, remember, think about, plan for, or avoid?

this is a transition, not a sure fire stop as soon as you get the ego. if you're dieing for a cig, have one.. just don't keep smoking them like you normally would. the idea is to cut back, then stop the smoking. some just swap right away, but we aren't all idental when it comes to our needs.
planing, just keep extra stock of supplies around
avoid, don't go buying something before first asking if anyone has anything to say about it. that's how most people get burnt. though, they might hate something like a flavored juice, you might love it. so just take into consideration and then use a judgment call on it.

    1. Is it normal to vape almost constantly?

yep, when you first start you vape like nuts. you will cut back, but, by that time you may want to swap to something with a better mAh (the rating of battery life)

    2. I have read elsewhere that you need to keep hydrated well while vaping. But I have not really read why. So.... Why?

pg and vg pull moisture to the chemical. so when you vape you are removing water from your system. not a lot but if you vape a lot you will get cotton mouth.

    3. Sometimes when I am heavily puffing away I get a taste that reminds me of the times I would break a cigarette and use scotch tape to put it back together. I.E. melted tape taste. Is that the fill melting or just something unique to PG liquids when they get too hot?

i would think that your melting the plastic cart. open it up and look at the cart to see if it is warped.

    4. I came to VT because one of the other major PV forums out there were so full of Blu bashing that I didn't feel comfortable posting there for fear of replies along the lines of "Send it back before it's too late" and "Get a 510 , nothing is better". It seems that VT is more tolerant of those of us who chose the Minicig l88b format to vape with. Is this true here at VT?

at VT we believe in saying; "if you like it and it works for you, have at it".
though, there's more of us that would like to bash on that then i'll let you know about, lol.

    5. I am currently waiting on an order from ModernVapor.com of blank carts, 3 bottles of E Liquid (mmm peach!) and some Fluval foam to load up my own carts. Any tips for other accessories to purchase to make my refilling woes less?

skip carts and attys, use cartomizers. all that goodness but less of the mess. i use cartomizers for on the go and attys for at home and just drip with them.

Jolly got a reaction from Schizophretard in What Should I Know As A Noob?
    1) What are the e-cig facts as related to use, acceptance, health, odor?
it's nicotine on demand, you don't have to "inhale" as much to get the same effect.
usually with a cig you feel the need to smoke the entire thing. putting one out and then finishing it taste nasty
with an ecig you vape what you want and stop.
most places i go they don't care that i vape. they tend to think "oh he is smoking" because of the clouds i produce, but if you talk to the people and explain what it is, they don't care if you do it there.
health risks, as far as we know there aren't any health risks other than being addicted to nicotine. yet nicotine in and of it's self doesn't really have health risks. it's like caffeine. when you drink a lot of caffeine you can go threw withdraw, being that it also is a drug.
oder, isn't really noticeable. you have to blow it into someones face for them to smell it. i tested this and a friend said it smelled like a watered down jolly rancher.

    2) Who do you think is the most reliable manufacture for e-cigs?
joye/janty, is the peoples choice. on the other side of things you also have people that make them out of different things for those that want larger power or battery life. tend to be called modders.

    3) Are e-cigs a cessation, alternative nicotine delivery or traditional cigarette replacement?
that is more defined per user. some people don't even use nicotine in their devices.

    4) If they are, why are e-cigs safer than traditional cigarettes?
many of the testomionals of e-cig users will state how they can taste foods, smell, breath, and over all just feel better.
here is the break down of what i put into my juice.
    LorAnn Oils Glycerine
    LorAnn Oils Flavoring
PG nicotine @ either 18 or 24mg depending on what i feel like using that day.
take also into account that there is no burning.
ramp up the amount of what you have to a closed off room with a barrel of anything burning vs a room with a fog machine using just glycerine (pg). the fact is your not making it out of the smoke room.

    5) What made you try and continue use of e-cigarettes?
i don't want the lug and cancer issues that go with smoking

    6) What should I get to start my e-cig experience?
the normal reply would be the ego. it is a 510 kit and people love it.
the smaller kits with the almost identical shape of an analog cigarette. just don't pack enough battery life.

    7) Who has the most reliable and best value in e-cig distribution?
i sway more to the modders, you use batteries with a higher mAh (life) in mods. and the batteries tend to be $20+ less than a brand name with high mAh.

Thanks all! The feedback is much appreciated and I will update the post with the answers in the event that that mods do grant a pinned topic!

    the steps

1.) clean the atty under hot water then blow it out and try it with a towel. let it sit to dry out. (i put mine behind my xbox when it's on for a rapid drying).
2.) prime the atty with 3 drops of liquid. (sort of need a drip bottle for this part).
3.) view the cart and make sure it has liquid at the top. not to the point where it looks like it will get on you but that it isn't dry. place it back into the atty.
4.) let it sit for 3-5 mins and then vape it.

if it taste burnt, that might just be a dry atty.
i for one hate the taste of tobacco flavor juice and even cigs.
if it does still taste like crap, snag some other 3ml juice and see how they taste to you. i tend to vape my caramel-apple, kiwi-strawberry with hint of blueberry, watermelon, grape, and menthol. other than those i haven't really tried or liked anything else.

the only time i flood an atty is when i use carts. every filler is different than the other, even in the same 5 pack.
cartos look like they are about the same.
flooding an atty isn't a problem. you can chuck own of them into a cup of water for days, dry it, vape with it.

i only drip, when i let people try it i toss on a carto.
if they say "that doesn't hit like a cig i toss on the atty, drip my "kick you in the lungs" mix and say "oh yeah?".

i had three attys work for over 95 days. one of them i used 75 - 85% of the time.
quality is a factor of life span but also taking care of it is another factor.

Jolly got a reaction from Brian in Please Help Me Decide On Which One? Here Are My Stats
1.) I am afraid that I will buy an ecigarette that will be too strong for me.

some people that chain smoke like a lower nic and some that smoke a little want a lot. depends on the person, i say go for a high nic content and see how you like it.

2.) I would prefer an ecigarette that doesn't look like an actual cigarette if possible. THe pen looks great...but is it reliable?

the ones shaped like a cig aren't that reliable. the batteries are just to small and last thing you want to do is have 10 batteries all charging and swapping them out.

3.) I am not electronic savvy so if it breaks, I will have to buy a new one.

there are three parts to an e-cig. the mouth piece that holds a cart full of e-juice, atomizer that heats up the juice to become vapor, and the battery. if one of the items broke you can just replace that piece.

4.) Is there one out there that is reliable?

ego and the tornado are good for first timers, with the addition of a large battery. both of those are basically the same thing as they both run a 510 atomizer. thats what i use and love it. the main types of atomizers people use are 510, 801, 901, and 808.

5.) Maybe a two-pack so I won't go back to actual smoking while waiting on a replacement?

to avoid having to go back to smoking just make sure you have extra batteries and atomizers.

    6.) stealth smoking is ideal

i'm with you on this one, i actually modified a single AAA flashlight to an ecig using a 10440 protected li-ion battery.

7.) Do the kits have everything that I need?

kits tend to give you the starting point of what you need. if you get a kit order about 3 extra atomizers and batteries. say you go for the tornado kit, the kit doesn't come with their mega battery. what some people do with that is skip the kit and order just the parts. it cost more to do it that way but then you have just what you want.

8.) Can you tell me all of the supplies I need so I can buy them upfront?

the break down would be the kit or parts you will be using, and extra parts, juice. this list could be longer if you wanted to mix your own juice. if you want to do that OR want to have the best tasting e-juice i ever encountered hit up www.diyflavorshack.com

    9.) I don't know about the fruit flavors...I want something similar to wha t I smoke now...Marlboro light 100.

i used to smoke marb light menthol. i actually like the fruity flavors. my daily vape is Caramel-Apple i made. my nic level is around 18mg but i am thinking of going up to 23mg.

10 do need big battery life as I do smoke a lot.

watch the mAh of the battery, the higher the number the longer it lasts.

    11.) Is the tip hot?

no but the atomizer can get hot, not to the point you will get burnt but hot enough you don't want to touch it for that "just in case" factor, lol.

12.) oes a case come with it?

kits usually have a "case" but its not the type you would go walking around with, not sure why they call them a case it's actually a box. depending on what you get, an eye glass case will work.

13.) Do I need an ashtray still to hold it?

nope it is all vapor. like when you boil water, just this isn't water boiling.

    14.) Can it burn something/someone?

never heard of anyone being burnt.

15.) Do I pocket it when out and about? Or hold it until it cools off?

i can chain vape and then drop it into my pocket.

16.) Eventually does everyone quit smoking?

depends on the person. that's the idea though.

17.) Lowering the nicotine and just blowing the vapor?

yes, but you can keep vaping the nic.. i haven't read a study that has any info about nic being harmful. in most cases it actually has effects that i want to hang onto. weight loss, making you happy, etc...

18.) is there any type of smell to it? Or scent? If you are using pineapple scented flavor, does everyone around you smell it too?

i blew my watermelon into a friends face to see if he could smell it when i first got my kit. he said it smelled like a weak watered down watermelon.
