Oh man, I tell you one of the, if not 'the', best books I ever read was Creighton's 'Timeline'. Wow, did that take me to another place.

I've learned quite a few things from well written fiction, for instance currently reading 'Avenger' by Frederick Forsyth. A fiction novel which taught me that the bravest, the toughest, and the most fearless in Viet Nam wasn't the Green Berets, the SEALS, the Rangers, etc., but a elite group I knew of, but knew little about, the Tunnel Rats. What they would do is beyond my comprehension. Thank you Mr. Forsyth.

This has nothing to do with 'ecigs', so i guess it goes here.

Anyway, I saw a post on another thread by 'Nana' about the old analog 'vending machines' way back when. I had forgotten all about those. Now I don't recall if I ever used them or not, but I sure do remember my dad using them when I was a kid, and I even remember when, depending on the price at the time, the analog companies would sometime include your 'change' inside the cellophane wrapper. Yup, I can still see those packs he would buy with two pennies inside the wrapper. Wow.

    Anyone else recall that?

A cheapo 'try it and see' can be a double edged sword. It lowers your risk, but....it may not tune, or hold tune well, or it may be difficult or harder to play, or it may just not sound good. Any or all of these can make one think it is not for them.

My first guitar was a 12 string acoustic 'Framus', made in Germany and bought at a PX in 1971. I still have it. It has been a six string most of it's life, as I found in 12 string mode, it was pretty much just for strumming. And that 'strumming' is only effective on the downstroke as the pick never touches the top four smaller strings on an upstroke.

I've used the Framus to perform, and have kept it all these years because it is as well built as many guitars that cost much more. I wouldn't mind having a 12 and a 6, but if any 'picking' is to be done much, I find the dual octave sound of 12 string notes to get irritating.

As for tuning and stringing.......it's basically like doing two 6 strings at the same time. As for tuning, All strings are the same notes, the top four pairs being an octave apart, and the bottom two pairs being the same.

BTW, my advice for a try out is ALWAYS buy a quality instrument USED. Chances are you can get exactly what you paid for it if you sell.

But my hunch is that if you get a good 12, and once the thrill is gone, 9 times out of ten you will reach for your 6 string.

'Lucky' that by lurking here, then getting a little advice on a starter kit, I bought some quality products and was amazed at how preferable it was to analogs.

The reason I mention this is that I had an experience today that would have, had it been my first 'ecig' probably have turned me off to vaping.

I was given a new 'V2' light, single use ecig by someone who had it, but wasn't going to use it. I haven't tried any small auto units, so I thought I'd try it. IMO, boy did it suk. No throat hit at all, and terrible taste. And I hit it a dozen times or so. Had that been my first experience with vaping, I may very well have said 'not for me'.

I guess the lesson is if you are looking to switch someone, advise them to give 'your' gear a try, and not just let them grab something off the rack.

On a state level you are correct, on a federal level it's illegal in all states. One day the government will tell us how many squares of toilet paper we can use per flush.

Excellent suggestions, Synth, I was hoping you'd chime in, as I believe your familiar with my spinner set up. None of my multitudes of plumbing gaskets were that small, but somehow I saw a tiny black rubber gasket on the counter in the bath, probably remnants from my pockets, as that is one of the places my wife dumps my pocket booty when she's gonna wash my work shorts.

Anyway, I have no idea where it came from, and it was actually a 'cup' style washer which actually better than a flat gasket. The hole was a bit small, but the OD was near perfect. So it's on my backup, and will see if it holds up until I get the real thing. I guess if it lasts as long as the coil, I'm fine. Lesson learned about paying attention to those o-rings.

I don't have a hypothesis, but I'll give you a bit more info on me - in case it helps.
I started out smoking full flavor cigarettes. Now this was waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy back when cigarettes were 45 cents a pack. When you could buy them in machines anywhere and everywhere - with just some spare change. When there weren't very many different brands and there certainly weren't any lights or ultra lights. I went down to lights a lot of years ago when I was going to quit smoking because of the price. By then they had jumped to $1.00 a pack. I figured if I cut down on the nic, I might be able to wean myself off of them. Nope. Didn't work. But I stayed with the lights for years and years. Then I did the same thing when I switched to ultra lights a few years ago when they jumped to $2.00 a pack. Still didn't help me quit. Nothing helped until I learned about and tried vaping. I did start with the 36mg, but quickly dropped to 24mg. I was probably at 18mg the longest, but I dropped very quickly down to 6mg and then 3mg. But that could be because I was smoking ultra lights at last. I don't know. I never thought about it. I just know the complete switch for me was the easiest thing ever and I had tried several different ways and devices to quit before and none of them worked.

kerk got a reaction from Uma in Auto or manual, which do you prefer?
Have had my pair of Vision Spinners now for about a week, and have had no desire to open that last pack of analogs in my truck. The Spinners I have are manual, and I like that, but they are my only point of reference. I do like the fact that with the manual I can start the juice cooking a second early, thus not having to take a long draw, which I suspect is necessary with an auto.

Anyway, I want to order another kit of the '510' type, just to have something a little smaller. Just curious as to what others prefer in that size batt., and this size ecig for that matter.

The low voltage should be no problem, as I've kept my spinners at 3.5v max.

Kit arrived yesterday, figured out today how to use it, and I'm tickled pink. Got the variable battery on the lowest setting, and still get a good throat hit with a short pull. I'm using full flav nic juice to start.

I have one full pack of analogs.........and they will be used, but I expect it will be the pack I enjoy most, as with the way my ecig works, I truly expect it will be the last.

Also, like to hear of any recommendations for a smaller unit for my next buy, as the one I have is sort of cigar size.
