  1. I almost dropped a load when I saw your post here Snubber. I got my VP PT in the mail today, and the first thing out of my mouth was "Crap! The LEDs look like they're waaaaay undervolted". Mine are incredibly dim. So much so that it's very annoying to me. I got the purple one; not sure what color you got? So I emailed VaprLife and got the following email in response: I haven't emailed them back b/c I just now got home (decided to check VaporTalk before checking email; yeah I'm obsessed). What color did you get? If this is the new standard purple, then I'm just not happy with it. Well, I'm not happy with it either way. I suppose it's a minor complaint for a very good device, because honestly it toots very very well. I'll have to think about this for a bit. EDIT: I just remembered I've actually got some ultraviolet LEDs in my LED shelf that I haven't even tested yet. I'll give them a shot and see how they look compared to those in the passthrough.
  2. Right on with everything Mark said. The tea bag mod used instead of that polyfill, the fluval foam mod, and all the other little tricks people use are just to help solve some of the minor issues with the basic polyfill that comes in those carts. They all work along the same themes: increasing the usage life of your cart, increasing capacity that can be stored in the cart, and increasing how well the liquid transfers from that filler down onto the bridge of the atomizer, and ultimately down onto the heating element. If you're new to vaping, stick with that polyfill for a bit before trying one of these mods. Just get used to how your atomizer performs, and take note of how often you feel like you need to refill it. If you feel like you're refilling too often, then try one. If you're ok with how often you need to refill, then there's no rush on jumping into a new technique.
  3. Ha! Thanks Dave. But really Brian's got the upper hand in that department. I'm pretty dang excited about these 510 cartos. Even if they don't turn out to be the bees knees, I've got those other attys on the way to try out. I think I'm ready to try a new type of atomizer. These dang 510s in the multi-pack from wicked eliquid are actually ticking me off. They really do seem inferior to the genuine Joye510s I got in my starter kit. On a sidenote, my purple LED VP PT came in today. Performance is good, but I made the mistake of using one of those wicked 510s on it (so far) and I'm trying to break the darn thing in as quickly as possible. Plus, the LEDs are like ultra dim; no where near the brightness of pics and videos I've seen, so I think they're faulty or maybe the resistors used to bring 5v down to the 2-3v range required for LEDs. I've emailed VaprLife, so we'll see what happens.
  4. Back in stock! Order placed. Also got an 801 and 901 atty because I've never actually used one before. My VP PT should arrive in a few hours, so I'll use the adapters I bought to try them out on it. Also got a regular 510 atty as a test to see if they're any good, b/c $7.95 is a heck of I deal I think.
  5. Thanks for the review SickDripzz. I keep hearing awesome things about RY4 but have yet to actually give it a shot. Sounds like I need to!
  6. Gotta love a new episode on a weekend day. Downloading now. EDIT: It's "Life"??? Dang, I should have proofed that subject line first. Supposed to say "Live" ! 2nd EDIT: Dave! Scott mentioned you at 30:08!
  7. Ohhhhhh sweet. Yup they're out of stock, but I'm going to leave that tab open and refresh it a couple hundred times a day. I really want to get my hands on some and also try out a 901 atty. If the flavor of the 510 cartos are anything like the KR808s *and* the VP and TH are like a regular 510, then this will be the ultimate atty imo.
  8. Yeah I'm pretty lucky in that Oklahoma doesn't require the monthly inspections anymore cuz I'd totally fail. Oh and Brian you beat me with that 11 months. Longest I've made it was 9 I think. So I'll get the darn tag renewed, but I'm not about to go shopping for side mirrors. Been driving without them so long that I don't even use them when driving my wife's car.
  9. Ok, so I'll never claim to be the most upstanding and model citizen in this great nation of ours. Case in point - I got pulled over today because of an expired tag (5 months to be exact; because I'm lazy and not a huge fan of the tag office). Officer Berm Taliaferro (yeah that's right, I always ask for a name, and you should too because they sure as heck know who YOU are) did the normal drill asking for ID and insurance verification. And I intentionally, yes INTENTIONALLY, left my BB laying across my lap while he gave me the normal speech and wrote me a warning on that special white and yellow carbon copy paper. I thoroughly considered it as I was sitting in my truck when he was running my license plate. I'm a very non-confrontational guy, and hate drawing extra attention, but I couldn't resist it in this case; I wanted him to see my PV and ask about it. I really felt the need to educate my local law enforcement about PVs because I know for a fact that they are just as red-neck as i am LOL! Or maybe I needed some stupid ego boost telling him something that he didn't know. Or heck, maybe because I don't know a single vapor within my county and I wanted to find a kindred spirit. I keep a rag in my truck in the console for the times that I over-drip and need to wipe it down before grabbing the stick shift again. But I didn't feel it necessary to stash my BB underneath it because I really have nothing to hide. But he was either totally obvlivious or just didn't care. Not a single word or question about it; heck, maybe he knew about PVs before I did!. I thought I noticed him glancing at it in the corner of my eye, but they always take a good look into your vehicle anyways. He just spouted the normal rhetoric about getting to the tag office today, or the next time he sees me I'll get a real ticket and have to pay for a tow when he takes me down to the station and leaves my truck on the side of the highway. Oh, and I have to get my side mirrors fixed too because it's state law that you have your driver's side mirror operational (yeah that's right; I've been driving for the past 4 years with only a rear-view mirror and no side mirrors!) I'm so ghetto. Ug... You'd think the fact that my wife is the Bailiff for our district court would make me a law-abiding citizen, but it's just not the case And my father-in-law is the County Judge 30 miles south of where we live (I love the man; couldn't ask for anyone better) had only heard of vaping once or twice before I told him I'd made the switch. Anyway - I'm curious to hear some experiences from anyone else in regards to their local law encforcement. Have you ever been questioned about your PVs? Had to demonstrate them, etc etc? Do your local police seem educated on PVs, or even care?
  10. Dang if I only had a lathe..... I've had my eye on a few cheapos from Harbor Freight the past couple months for some other hobbies, plus a couple drill presses. Dave if you and your bro have any success with this please let us know.
  11. Excellent specs there McQuinn, thanks for finding that! The "C" rating is actually an expression of the cell's (battery's) rating of capcity. 1C = 1 times the rated capcity of the cell. So 5C equals 5 times the cell's rated capacity; 2C equals 2 times the cell's rated capacity, etc etc. So if a cell's maximum charging current is listed as 1C as in the case of the trustfire 14500, and the rated capacity of this cell is 900mah (which is actually very optimistic and more along the lines of 700mah; but that's a moot point) then that means the max charging current is 1 times the rated capacity which is 900mah. As in the case of the specs you found and listed, the max continuous discharge rating is 2.5C, which would equal 2.5 times the cell's rated capacity. So that's 2.5 times 900mah = 2250mah or 2.25amp hours. That's more than what we need for vaping since a normal 510 atty at 4.2volts (the maximum non-load voltage of our lithium ion batteries on a normal charger) will draw between 1.68amps to 1.9amps a maximum power and under ideal conditions. Thanks for finding these specs, it's appreciated! And is another confirmation that we're running our 14500 batteries within specification for normal and safe operating conditions. In the rechargeable battery world, a discharge rating of 2.5C is actually very low. Look at some of the LiPo (lithium polymer) batteries used in RC hobby planes and land vehicles (different chemistry yes; but also a good side comparison). The normal discharge rating for LiPos for these applications are anywhere from 20C to 50C. And when you venture into the world of LiFePo4 nano-phosphate batteries, the max discharge rate can exceed 50C. This is hard to imagine just looking at numbers, so here's a real-world example of how powerful the newest (and most expensive) battery chemistries can get. Start your car on a 4 cell pack of small little batteries?! Yup, and here it is in canada at -21celcius (or 5.8 below zero fahrenheit): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcvmvrmTMMk Keep in mind that your car's lead-acid battery is actually 6 cells in series in one big housing as opposed to only 4 cells in the above example. Much smaller and soooooo much lighter. I saw another video of a 4 cell pack of the same batteries jumpstarting an old V8 chevy around 8 to 10 times in a row in rapid succession, but I can't find it now. Any way, even though Lithium Ion batteries are good and more than serve our needs in the vaping world, they're really just a drop in the bucket compared to what battery chemistries are capable of. Dang I love batteries.....
  12. Thanks for the info folks, this helps alleviate my fears. I'm definitely a 'tracking number watcher' and am very lucky in the sense that I work from home so I can check the mailbox quite frequently throughout the day. I'm still going to keep the idea of cold packs on the backburner. If I start getting nasty tasting juices, I'll ask some vendors if they can throw in those cold packs to try and help. I'm serious when I say I'd pay more for shipping than usual
  13. Ohhhhh crap.... A thought occured to me today when I was at the post office mailing out some juice samples. Summer time heat and the US mail system. Remember that thread Jeff started awhile back talking about how quickly heat can destroy the flavor of ELiquid? What the heck are we supposed to do this summer?! Hey if it comes down to it, I'll pay double or more the normal shipping cost to have some cold packs thrown in there. To me it would be totally worth it. That would keep me from placing so many small orders, rather I'd be placing large ones infrequently, but I don't care; gotta have that flavor! I haven't been vaping very long, so maybe you veterans that started last year can chime in with your experiences about summer time heat.
  14. Cool, thanks for the extra info!
  15. For some reason, datasheets on batteries are getting harder and harder to come by. And it really shouldn't be this way. But after some digging I found a post on DX in which someone had tested the famous TrustFire 14500 protected batteries at a 700mah (0.7amp) discharge rate, and not only did they perform at that discharge rate but they also had a relatively stable voltage depression throughout the test. I say relatively stable b/c looking at the graph you can tell it's not fantastic, but considering how cheap they are I find it very good. Here's the post: http://www.dealextreme.com/forums/Forums.dx/Forum.19626~threadid.523314 Mcquinn can you get more specific about the batteries in question that you mentioned? Because with the 14500s, they really can discharge higher than half an amp. From personal experience the 14500s perform great under a good load. The double derringer mod I made still works great. Vapor production off just one atty (while the other one is firing at the same time) seems about the same as if I were powering only one atty off a 14500 instead of 2 simultaneously. If I hadn't blown my multimeter's amp reading path a few months ago (everything else still works) I could test it for a concrete number. I definitely need to borrow someone's. In the mean time I'll look around some more for a datasheet, but I'll be darned if they're burried somewhere in the depths of the internet.
  16. Excellent review Brian, and fantastic news all around! Thanks for all of the detail. I'm pretty excited about this. As soon as someone offers a blank version (or just otherwise a VG-filled version) then I'm all over it!
  17. Jeff to the rescue (as usual). Hey Jeff, we'll expect a full review sometime soon
  18. This is terrible. Just absolutely dreadful. As ex-smokers, I'm sure everyone here has heard horror stories about Chantix. They're all true. My wife tried it for 2 days, but couldn't continue. It really did send her over the edge. Chantix is dangerous. Upon reading the article it sounds like this has happened many times before to other unfortunate people.... It's just terrible.
  19. Hey thanks missxenobia! And gosh thanks for the tip about the turkish flavor! Camel Turkish Golds were my analogs when I was smoking. No other cig came close. So a dekang "Turkish Tobacco" juice was my first purchase. Of course, it's not really close to the analog version, but it really is my favorite flavor in the VP world too. But since it's PG, I can't handle it for very long. When I first saw WordUpEcig offers it in VG I about fell out of my chair, but it was out of stock! Good to hear it's back Thanks a lot! That's my next order right there.
  20. Good comparison Tektronik, thanks for the details. The issue of heat dissapation is not something one would normally expect or even think about when considering the purchase, so that's definitely an added bonus. I've been using the plastic D-tips and have been loving them. But those steel T-tips sure do look fantastic with a steel atomizer (dang that "Precise" unit is super sexy). Thanks for the good comparison. This is something I'll have to ponder about. EDIT: Do the steel T-tips have a wider hole than the plastic D-tips? Lots of the VG juice I use is so thick that the drops are much larger than PG, and it's rare I actually make it through the whole without getting it down the side (on the inside) and all the way on top of the bridge.
  21. I think you're in unchartered territory here Jnnfrlsw, as I haven't seen posts about anyone actually using them. I've had my eye on them ever since someone here tipped me off about them, hoping an empty blank version would come out. I hate to hijack your thread, but I've just gotta ask: how do you like them?
  22. Thanks again for the comments folks, I appreciate it! Yeah Nana I got real lucky to see Mark's new mod and even a demostration. Somehow I get the feeling that it was just a teaser and he has some big stuff planned.
  23. I took a few minutes to detach myself from the fact that I'm an ex-smoker that struggled with an addiction for 10yrs and found myself thinking the following: I actually have no problem with the idea of a non-smoker wanting to try vaping. The reason for that is the fact that I know, just as you all do too, that vaping is so much healthier than smoking. I don't like the idea of a non-smoker using nicotine juice though; and I'm sure that prefilled cart was NOT a zero nic cart. So, in that sense I don't think it's a good idea. But I don't know the guy. Perhaps he used other nicotine items such as dip or snuff (you never know). Or perhaps he wanted to try vaping to ween himself off some other addiction and replace it with something more healthy, less expensive, etc. Or maybe he just wanted to try it for the simple act of trying something that's relatively unknown. No matter the reason, I don't have a problem with him trying vaping. But, the video itself may or may not be helpful to keeping VPs legal. On the one hand you have a non-smoker using this device and is not totally disgusted by it like someone would with an analog (yay for our side!). On the other hand you have a non-smoker attracted to using nicotine (that's yay for the FDA!). So it's a mixed bag. In either case, I do like his glasses. EDIT: I just looked up the book he wrote "Random Obsessions", and trying a VP actually seems right up his alley. Not a book about addictions as it sounds, but rather interesting facts, rare and uncommon knowledge. 2nd EDIT: He didn't inhale. Okay I'm stepping away from this now.
  24. Wow that's really something. I would never have thought of that before. Makes me (kind of) want to go sniffing around in the storage closet now.
