  1. Thanks for sharing McQuinn. Besides slowly reducing your nic content, did you change anything else? Like get new flavors, or search out flavors with zero nic but still had a strong throat hit, etc? @FTJoe - Would still definitely like to hear anymore about your experience that you'd like to share as well.
  2. I love my magnum with a passion. It's fantastic! But I haven't been using it much since I got my VP PT. The reason is two-fold. 1) Even though I bought four of them, I'm very careful with it and I try not to use it much now in fear of popping it. 2) The flavor of juices really seemed to degrade quickly after the first day, even though I've since thoroughly washed it. So far, the KR808 cartomizers have the most fantastic flavor of any atty that I've used (and at 5volts it's almost stupid-strong). I did get some 510 cartos on thursday but I have yet to actually use them. I have one soaking right now, that I'll give a shot later tonight. But flavor aside, the 510 magnums have the most incredible vapor production and throat hit. Truly a gem that everybody should at least try once!
  3. I have no experience here b/c I don't fly. But, there's a member on the ECF by the name of RIAFlight25 who happens to be an international flight attendant and vapes. In fact, his avatar is a picture of him pointing to a no-smoking sign in the plane while vaping. I passed his name along to Scott from VaporCast as they mentioned in one episode that they'd like to talk to someone in the airline industry about vaping. If you're a member of the ECF, perhaps he could give you some more info.
  4. I was breaking my brain trying to figure out some way to do that before I even started making the mod. Honestly I never came up with anything definitive, though some of the PVC and vinyl tubing at Lowes caught my eye. I've seen folks make their own drip tips made from some of the rigid reinforced PVC tubing, and they've seemed happy with them. And I suppose you could use 2 of those, that are branched together in a "T" fitting. But I never really looked into it enough. Ever since I got the magnum atty and the VP passthrough, I haven't thought about it much more. If I get some time next week, I'll take a 510 down to Lowes and see what I can come up with. Will post any other ideas or successes here. Would love to hear yours too.
  5. @FTJoe - this is off topic I suppose, but I would love to hear more of your venture into zero nic vaping. The challenges, the change in shopping for parts and juice, and just overall how you went about it. Perhaps in a different thread, or however you feel more comfortable. Ultimately, that's my goal - to go zero nic. But I'm not rushing it. I'm trying to take my time so that I don't have any setbacks. So I'd love to hear your experiences and how you went about it (in as much detail as you can conveniently share).
  6. Yeah tektronic, covering the air hole tightened up the draw, but it's not changing the taste Everything is pretty much the same, and by now I've put in well over 20hrs of vape on it. Maybe McQuinn's right. Maybe at 5v everything just melds into one taste. I don't have any 510 to 901 adapters, so I can't try it at a lower voltage (yet).
  7. Thanks for the reply folks. Yes, I'm using it on my VP passthrough with the 801 to 901 adapter. It fits well, and seems to make very good contact. The hole on the side of the atty and also the one on the battery end are unrestricted and they look fine. However, the draw is the opposite of what you all have described. The draw is lighter and more airy. But then again that's in comparison to a broken-in 510, and all the 510s I've ever had get tighter the more you use them (which I actually like). Thanks ProfBeard for the link, that was a good read! I guess maybe it's just taking a long time to break in, but 4hrs+ is kind of a pain in the neck. I'll try it again today and see if I can make any progress. PiWright besides the VP PT I only own 2 other mods. The BB and a double barrel box mod that I made (both 510 of course). I'm totally happy with the BB, and know that many other folks are too. But I hate to offer recommendations when I don't own several mods.
  8. Posting this in here in the newbie section b/c I'm a 510 guy, and this is my first experience with a 901. So, I've been vaping on this new 901 for the past 4hrs constantly. But I'm noticing some strange things here... I've switched around between MANY different flavored juices but they're all pretty much tasting the same. I mean, it's like the 901 inherently has it's own distinctive taste, and all I can do is barely augment that flavor by switching between juices. And really, I can't do much to change this taste. I've blown the atty out (from the battery end just to be OCD) 3 times already thinking there was juice stuck down in there that was making all the flavors meld together into one. But it's not helped. Also I've noticed that the only time I get a burnt flavor, like when you're running low on juice and getting dry, is directly after I blow it out right before I refill with a flavor. It's like there is a bottomless pit down in there that traps all juices and mixes them together in some type of weird metal cauldron. I just can't do anything to change the flavor! I just switched to a 510 to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and sure enough I'm crazy, but the 510 tasted like normal And the 901 still tastes like blah. So what's the deal? Is this normal or did I get a bad 901? This is my first, and only one. Bought from www.litecigusa.com if that makes any difference. And there's an almost microscopic printing on the battery thread end on the bottom. It says: 14747 JO 875. Not sure if that means anything but I thought it interesting that it was there to begin with. Oh, and this is apparently one of the newer ones that has the solid washer inside instead of the steel mesh around the atomizer's cup (again, not sure if that matters). Sidenote: the 801 I got from the same website will NOT fit down onto my VP PT, but I'll assume that's an unrelated subject. EDIT: I hate to sound all negative, so I will say that I like the cooler vapor on this 901 and LOVE LOVE LOVE the duck-bill whistle tip. Plus, the atomizer as a whole stays much cooler than a 510 on my VP PT, which is kind of an unseen positive trait because when I take it off the 801 to 901 adapter, there is *zero* juice that has found its way down into the adapter. Which is totally unlike a 510. The 510 gets very hot on the VP PT and leaks down into the adapter.
  9. Good info and good point McQuinn. Honestly considering the controversy right now, we really should be taking a 'devils advocate' approach to some things. I honestly have no idea how many mils of juice I'm vaping per day, b/c I really switch around soooooo dang much. But I'll gaurantee it's a heck of a lot more than what I smoked in my analog days. Granted, some of that is zero nic juice (I only have a few). But all of my main juice is 11mg. So am I getting more nicotine than when I was smoking? I'd be stupid to say no. Do I think vaping is harmless? Heck no. Do I think it's healthier than smoking? Heck yes. Vaping is a vice, and there's no point in thinking otherwise or trying to market it as anything but a healthier alternative. That's what I tell my friends and family, and for the most part, they're happy I've made the switch. But you bring up a good point in that we should never think vaping is 100% harmless. I just can't believe that my health is the same as someone that doesn't vape. But for now I'm ok with that, and we'll see what the future brings. Vaping is a hobby, a lifestyle, and a chemical addiction all rolled into one package. That's a big statement, but it satisfies the three major necessities of my personality
  10. Now that's a dang success story if I've ever heard one. Fantastic SickDripzz! Sick the dogs on ya huh? LOL! Glad to know you've educated more folks, and even converted a few. I still have to wonder about the locals here though. Sometimes Oklahoma seems a LONG ways away from the rest of the world, and I've still yet to find another person around here that vapes. We'll see.
  11. Sweet! Still wanna see them. Yes, I totally love these magnums. I'm very very impressed. I bought 4, but have only used 1 in fear of popping one just like you did When I got my VP PT though, I've not touched it since. Not because I think the VP PT performs better, but b/c I've been liking the fact that I can use some regular ole 510s on the passthrough and get dang near the same experience. Plus, these KR808 cartos are really something special at 5v. Very impressive imo. "Kent's" juice from WordUpEcig in a Kr808 at 5v last night kicked my butt. Was the closest experience to the taste of a burning analog cigarette I've had since I started vaping. And as you would expect, it was repulsive (but on a normal 510 atty, I like it). My wife on the other hand liked it, but she's still smoking. Funky stuff eh? For now, the other 3 magnums will remain in their plastic, and the 4th one has already been soaked in vinegar for a few hours, washed, and dried to wait for a good long trip into town. Next up, I'll be playing with the 510 cartos I got today, and then maybe the 801 and 901 attys too. EDIT: hmmm.... the 801 atty I got won't fit on my VP PT.... But that's another thread I guess.
  12. I got my 801, 901, and 510 cartomizers in the mail today to play with on my VP PT but I'm sorry I can't really help you with the issue except that I know not all adapters are made the same. We're talking about incredibly tight tolerances on these devices, like within 1/10 of a millimeter can cause an issue. From what I've read, it usually boils down to making good contact on the center (positive) pole. I have one 510 atty that gave me just a bit of an issue on my VP PT. It's one of my oldest ones that I've used the most. The center pole of the atty over time got pushed up slightly into the barrel. By like 1mm or less. But that was enough not to make good contact with the 510 adapter of my VP PT. A paperclip and a toothpick was all I needed to pull it back down a little, but I imagine it will only get worse over time as the separator used between the center and outer poles degrades.
  13. Maybe the "Omega?". Saw a thread on the ECF about the Omega unit. But I can't remember for sure if it was coming to AltSmoke or to PureSmoker.
  14. Gosh, these numbers are just all over the place! After an extensive search today I STILL couldn't find a manufacturer's datasheet on the Trustfires. What the heck is up with that?! From the very few sites I found that actually listed *some* tech specs, the consensus for the protected Trustfires max discharge rate is 1.5C. Which would be 1350mah (1.35amps). I've just got to wonder though... Is this an RMS value or a peak surge value? Because there's a big difference. If it's an RMS value, then that would mean 1.5C discharge rate could be sustained for a very long time without damage, excessive heat, or cause for concern. When manufacturers specify an RMS (continuous) value, they don't actually specify a time frame (like constant 1hr, 2hrs, 1 day etc etc) so you have to assume it's indefinite or just in other words a very long time. When manufacturers specify a peak surge value, they nearly always specify an exact time frame (1sec, 1min, 10mins etc etc). So I still feel as though we're left with a question here. And I'm not comfortable saying that it's rated at a 1.5C total maximum discharge value. Here's an example from Tenergy's website (different battery, since they don't have this specific of information on their 14500s) Max. Charge Current 2C Max. Continuous discharge 10C Max. pulse discharge (10s) 30C I really need to get another multimeter, because this issue is totally working on my nerves. I just have to test their discharge currents on some 510s!
  15. Sweet! What's that saying about great minds? Really it was just way too easy. What took the most time were the LEDs, since I had to mod them before even adding them into the project. Plus, wiring them with the resistors was a tad bit of a problem partially b/c I don't have a desk on which to mount my "helping hands" to hold it very steady. But it's still working well. I used it earlier this morning in fact, but since I got some of those 'magnum atties' I've not used it very much.
  16. Here's another confirmation of Brian's measurements. Yesterday I complained of the Totally Wicked 510 attys I bought in a multi-pack. They've all tested way too high in resistance, the lowest of which was at 2.8ohms and has remained there after 2 days of vaping. The others were around 3.2ohms if i remember correctly. I went back and cleaned out my genuine Joye510s last night, and measured them today after they were completely dried out: 2.3, 2.5, and 2.3 Others have mentioned the totally wicked 510s worked fine for them, so it's possible I got a bad batch. But I know I'll be buying genuine labeled Joye510s from now on.
  17. Good info and links provided by everyone; which is fantastic. I don't own an Ego (or if you buy it from Totally Wicked, it's known as the "Tornado"), but if I had to do things over again it would be a 50/50 tossup between it and the BB. The ego looks so much sexier than the BB, and is really on the verge of "mainstream PV" and the "mods". I've seen plenty of good reviews here and at other places. It's a sexy and sleek device, yet has a big beefy battery. Sounds like win-win, but I just don't own one so I can't recommend it to you. Whatever you decide to do, take the time to read the reviews and watch the videos. There are plenty of both for everything, and they're SO much fun to check out! EDIT: After a quick minute to think about it, I realized that it really looks like I'm pushing you towards buying a mod. My bad. I don't want to do that. If you're happy with the standard 510 batteries, then that's what you should use. Just buy a couple extra and spring for the 5-battery charger that can charge 5 at once (which I own, and loved greatly until getting my BB). If you feel a little frisky, go for a mega battery. I actually love the mega batteries (not b/c of the better vape and longer lasting time between charges) but b/c it made the whole unit a bit longer and thus easier to hold, and also a bit more weighty so it didn't feel so light and whispy in my hand.
  18. Can't believe I didn't think of it before, but if you're willing to change your atomizer and drop just a little more cash, you may want to check out the 510 cartomizers. Supposedly they give you the capacity, longevity, and flavor of a cartomizer but with the vapor production and throat hit of a 510 atomizer (and they work with all 510 batteries and connectors). I've got some on order that will hopefully arrive in a couple days. I'll try to remember to add some comments here about them, but there are already some on this forum, specifically from Brian (and a few others I can't remember; sorry folks!). Beyond that, really I only used carts for about the first 2 days when I started vaping. Switched to direct dripping pretty quick, but at the same time I know it's not for everyone b/c it's not necessarily very convenient at times. Sorry I wish I could give more advice.
  19. Lots of excellent info in regards to your original question so I'll not touch that. But I'll just say that when I got one of those "Mega" batteries for my 510 kit, that's what sealed the deal for me and made up in my mind in regards to buying a mod. You know that 'fresh off the charger' vapor production that you get for about the first 15-30mins when you take a battery off the charger and vape with it? The Mega battery gave me about 30mins to an hour with that nice feeling (plus it just lasted a lot longer too). But that bigger vape production that lasted longer is really what did it for me (this is the time in which the battery's voltage is actually hovering just a bit over 4 volts, rather than the nominal 3.7volts). My BB (which uses the 14500 batteries), keeps that 'fresh off the charger feeling' for dang near 2 full hours, then slowly tapers off but still lasts me hours and hours between switching out a battery. I don't want to talk anyone into buying a mod that doesn't need one, but really it's a world of difference when you can get past the fact that it no longer looks like a cigarette. Once you make that transition to where you don't care that it doesn't look like a cigarette, a whole new world opens up
  20. I doubt you misunderstood McQuinn, it's just that there are so many different battery sizes, styles, brands, and chemistries. It's hard to keep them all straight, but I do enjoy learning about them.
  21. I've not tried that. But I do vaguely recall reading about it on the ECF awhile back. There is a guy on there that actually works for Janty doing R&D and he posted some videos of chainvaping using a filler similar to that. It required a slight re-design of the cart itself, but the results seemed pretty amazing. So I'll betchya something like this will be commercial within a few months. It sounds pretty interesting, but I've just not worked up the courage to try that yet.
  22. More good news on those 510 cartos Brian, thanks! I'm really looking forward to trying them! So maybe I'm just over reacting about the brightness of the LEDs..... I'll have to sit on it for awhile. Yup, you measured them correctly. 2.3ohms really is where the need to be, but dang if they're just too resistive. They are indeed gold bands, but don't say Joye510 on them, rather they have the Totally Wicked devil face logo on it, and the letters "MP" on the other side. I assume that MP means "multipack" in case someone tries to return them for a refund or exchange etc b/c as you remember, these multi-pack attys have *no* warranty on them. And they don't have the washer in them either. So, it's kind of strange. Maybe I got a bad batch? Oh well
  23. Ya know, you just made a huge point there. That helps put things into perspective. This is not a huge industry. Yes it's growing, but there are also growing pains to go along with that. Always something to keep in mind when an issue arises
  24. LOL! Rock on with that Hey DevilDucky, I'll assume that you're in law enforcement then. What are your experiences with VPs and also the experiences of your co-workers? There's also a big difference between a regular Joye510 kit (standard battery) and a mod such as the BB, Silverbullet, Chuck, etc etc, and I'm interested in how that may or may not draw more attention as well. Any insights there?
  25. I just ran through a couple TW 510 attys with my multimeter. Here are the results: #1 Brand new and fresh out of the package (unused) = 3.2ohms #2 Brand new and fresh out of the package (unused) = 3.3ohms #3 Been vaping on it since about 10am this morning = 2.8ohms No where near the 2.2 - 2.5 rating of normal 510s, so it's no wonder they're feeling very powerless. Yeah Dave, actually I first tested it without an Atty connected at all. The light was still dim. Even tested it on all 4 of my PCs (well technically 3 PCs and one notebook) and also on 2 different AC outlets using the AC adapter. All dim Snubber has a separate post that I've added my experiences to regarding the VP PT. Sorry to get off topic.
