So I just updated my review of the Magnum 510 atty and thought I'd start another thread about the burning taste with HV vaping. If you haven't heard of this atty yet, it's a 510 with a lower resistance (1.5 ohm) that simulates 5 volt vaping. At 1.5 ohms it generates about 9 watts. I use my regular 510 at 3.7v and use the 302 on my VP/PT at 5v. With the 302 at 5V I do occasionally get some burnt taste, but never real bad. However, with the magnum attty at 3.7 I get 3-4 good hits and then total crap burn taste. At first I assumed it was just using up all the juice in 3-4 hits, but after several repeats of of this I got a massive leak and when I blew out the atty I was shocked at how much juice came out. Now, I've heard this is normal for HV vaping, but wanted to get some other opinions. I know many of you use the 510 on the VP/PT, do you have this problems? Also know some of you are using the regular 510 at 6v - same question??? If this is normal, how do you get past the burn taste?

If this is normal, then it sounds to me like you need to stay below the 8-9 watt range to avoid it.

    My first impression - WOW.

I ordered some Magnum 510 atty's and drip tips on Wednesday evening and received them this morning.

    Magnum 510 Atty:

If you read ddave's review, I agree with most everything he said. I checked the ohms on this and it measured exactly at 1.5 ohms so it should generate about 9 watts at 3.7v. For comparison, the regular 510 atty (2.2 ohms) generates about 6 watts at 3.7v and about 11 watts at 5v. The 801/302 generates about 4 watts at 3.7v and 8 watts at 5v.

The vapor production and throat hit are awesome! I started off with some 24mg VT TT and got a killer throat hit. Then I switched to some 18mg Mr. Bean from liquidxpress and still got a great throat hit. This atty is truly amazing. The one thing I see different from ddave is on the flavor. On both of the juices I've tried I find that the flavor is incredible - better than my regular atty at 3.7v or my 302 at 5v. Seriously. The only downside I see right now is that it does burn through the juice! I'm getting 3-4 hits from 3 drops. However, that's pretty normal for what I get at 5V.

Final thoughts - as Dave said - I'll reserve final judgment until I see how long one lasts. For now, I'm just going to enjoy it!!! This may have been exactly what I've been looking for in considering all the voltage and HV atty options.

    Drip-Tips:

I love the drip tips! My first thought was that the hole was to narrow and the juice would build up inside and I'd eventually get juiced. However, when putting in the first drops it actually looks like the tip "sucks" the juice down. The material must be so smooth and slick that the juice just runs right through. I can finally get rid of all the carts I took apart and knocked holes in... I've found an excellent replacement!

Also - thumbs-up to Nhaler. Ordered on Wednesday night and received my package Saturday morning.

I have to give you props for looking at alternatives, and I am not dis-respecting your level of addiction. But I think you are in a position to be able to get a decent substitute like a 510 kit, pick it up to replace the ugly cigs and then work your way down to 0 mg and be done with this barely before you started. Respectfully, Joe. If not, we are here to help in any way we can.

It's a crying shame that these are not yet available at NHaler's site. The one I'm testing came with my Phidius Woodimus device, though I'm using it on my VP2 presently.

This is billed as a "5V simulated" experience at 3.7V. I concur. Admittedly I had my doubts going in, and I really hate breaking in new attys, so I put it off initially. Wish I hadn't! Besides looking really cool in stainless steel on the VP2, the thing really puts out. First impressions:

    Vapor Production
When broken in, kicks heinie. If you've vaped a 510 at 5V, for example on your VP PT, you already know what the Magnum atty is like at 3.7V. It creates a great deal of warm vapor right out of the chute but after vaping 20 or 30 hits off it I got a fully broken-in unit that has never failed to deliver huge plumes. Some people don't appreciate warm vapor; I should say this doesn't seem any different from a standard 510 at 5V in that regard.

    Flavor
Hm. Still tends to overpower flavor a bit like your standard 510 does at 5V. I was honestly hoping that wouldn't be the case, but there you have it. It pays to keep it fairly wet, which lessens its harshness. Boosting the proportion of flavor in your e liquid will help to restore some flavor to the 5V experience (and the Magnum experience).

    Throat Hit
Truly works as advertised. I've been vaping standard PG liquids in this atty and getting truly raucous TH. No complaints or surprises.

In my opinion so far I'd say this is about as close as I've come to getting the sensation of smoking from an e cig (other than Woodimus at 6V, but that's another story). Of course I don't yet know how long it will last, whether it will have the same longevity of other 510s or tend to die more quickly. That remains to be learned. I have high hopes for it though; it really feels like a quality atomizer and it truly performs as advertised. This is a worthwhile and recommended innovation in my book.

Hopefully these will become generally available soon (and I hope I notice that before everyone else does so I can get in line quickly enough ) at a reasonable price.

The lungs are very good at absorbing fluids.DRs and Paramedics will give a person medicine into the lungs through a breating tube with 10 ml of water and the medicine and the fluid is absorbed very quickly. You probaly inhale more water taking a hot steamy shower the you do vaping, and no one drowns in the shower.
Water is also given off as a byproduct of resperation so some of thet water you see in the glass would be there if you were not vaping.Just breath into the glass with out vaping,it will mist up at first and eventualy some droplets would form.

There's been a lot of talk about different volts and HV atty's etc. I could be way off base here, but from my reading it sounds like the watts generated is what drives the vapor production. I've put together a spreadsheet showing the watts generated for regular 510 and 302 atty's vs. the HV atty's. The Joye 510 is 2.2 ohm and the 302 is 3.2 ohms (even verified this myself). The HV atty's for both 510 and 801's come in 4.5ohm and 5.2ohm (although I've only been able to find 4.5ohm atty's... I've only heard about the 5.2 ohm). Anyhow, thought this may help everyone see where you are and give you some ideas about about things and what the different combinations will give you before you try anything. You've all heard about people toasting atty's at high volts - it looks to me like you really start putting the atty at risk when you're over 15+ Watts.

Anyhow, if anyone finds any errors, shout it out. If there's some factor I missed, don't be shy.

Welcome to Vapor Talk, Summ27. I have the eGo, which is the exact same thing as the tornado, but with a different name. I can highly recommend it as a wonderful unit.

Normally when someone new comes here asking for recommendations, I always say the 510. It's a simple unit, more the size and shape of a regular cigarette, and puts out vapor similar to regular cigarettes, so I think it's the perfect first ecig. But since someone you know has recommend the tornado, I'd say that's okay, too.

The eGo or tornado are basically 510 units with batteries that are just a little bit bigger and last quite a bit longer. The batteries do cost about twice what the regular batteries cost, but they last so much longer that I feel it's well worth the price.

There is no charging case for the tornado, but the batteries last so long, you really wouldn't need one.

There is a size difference between the 510 atty and the 901 atty. There is also a difference in the amount of vapor. I was never happy with the 901, so I just don't recommend it, but lots of people are very happy with the 901. It always come down to personal preference.

I really feel that you can't go wrong with tornado. It's a bit more pricey than the regular 510 kit would be, but I think you'd want to move up to something like the tornado someday soon anyway, so you could save yourself a little bit of extra money by going this way to begin with. I do have 4 of the regular 510 batteries, but I don't use them. I keep them as a backup, but I use my eGo/tornado all the time.

Good luck with whatever you choose and be sure to ask any questions you have. You'll get plenty of answers.

I watch/read a lot of reviews (for everything, not just e-cigs) and I always try to keep in mind the fact that everyone has a different experience with a product.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that if you're watching/reading reviews from people who have a lot of experience always remember that they have a lot of experience! What I mean is that these people have used many devices, types of juice, etc. so they will make comparisons and talk about a lot of details, and that's a good thing, however these comparisons and details may not really be all that important to you, you may not even notice them! These people are trying to tell you as much as possible about a product, but don't let them be the only factor in your decision making process. Also consider the fact that everyone has preferences and opinions, you may not share the same opinion, so do some research/investigation to help you figure out what fits your needs.

    Here are some personal examples:

TGWTF did a review on Mr Bean from Liquidxpress, he said it smelled awful and had a powdery taste, I don't think it smells awful and I don't get a powdery taste at all. We have different senses of taste and smell, different opinions on what smells good or bad and he's tried way more juices than I have. Neither of our opinions is wrong and in the end we both agree it's a good juice.

Grimm Green did a review of the Spade and in it he spoke about a noticeable drop in voltage after 45 minutes to an hour. This kind of bothered me a little bit but I knew it was a solid device so I ordered it. I only just received it so I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I've been vaping it for half a day now and in my opinion after an hour the voltage seemed to drop to a level that seemed normal, it vapes like I would expect it to. For Grimm this wasn't a deal breaker, he still recommended the device. I'd consider him an advanced user and as such he has different expectations, I have three devices now so I still consider myself a beginner, I don't have the same expectations.

So remember, reviews are to help you make a decision, not to make it for you, and if you want multiple points of view you can always ask for them, most people are willing (in fact many are eager) to tell you exactly what they think about a product.

Is anyone using the Stick V3 with a cart? I'm thinking of getting one for my wife, but she will most likely always be using a cart. Since the bottom of the unit is rounded, it would have to be liad on it side when not in use. Just wondering if that causes any problems with wicking, flooding, or getting juiced??? Thanks All!

Brian reacted to nana in Dse 905 & Screwdriver Questions
Why would you need two bodies? Teri, pay attention here, backups, backups, backups. You can never have enough backups.

As far as the battery life for the DSE905 goes, I don't think I'd believe the up to 2 days thing. Now I could be completely wrong, but I've been using those batteries in my VP2 since last November and I get an easy 12 to 16 hours of vaping time with them. That's not counting overnight hours when I'm not using them. From others have said 8 hours per battery is about average. I've had them last only about 10 hours for me, but that was with some pretty heavy or even chain vaping. Unless you are a very light vaper, I can't see the batteries lasting that long.

As far as the eGo batteries go, yes they are more expensive than regular 510 batteries are. They cost twice as much. But you get more than twice the time using them between charges, too. Regular 510 batteries last me about an hour to an hour and a half. My eGo batteries last me 5 to 6 hours of heavy vaping. I'm going to get a couple more batteries to be sure and have plenty of backups. If you were paying attention before, you know how I feel about backups. LOL If money is tight, you could buy an extra battery once a month until you had the backups you want. Or buy one when you have the money and then another in another month when you have money again. There are ways to get the backups without going broke all at once.

I absolutely love the look of the janty stick and was really right on the verge of buying one. But then I saw it used the 10440 batteries and those batteries did not work out for me. If it used the 14500 batteries, I would have one right now. And would probably like it even more than my eGo, but alas, I knew those batteries wouldn't work for me so I just have to enjoy looking at pictures of the janty stick. <sigh>

Like I said before, I've never owned the Screwdriver, so you'll have to listen to profbeard on that one. I am impressed that he's had his for a year now and had no problems. I've only been vaping for 5 months and haven't had anything last even that long yet.

Since you already have 901 attys, it probably makes more sense to get something you can use those with instead of switching to something like the eGo. I'm just a big 510 atty fan, so everything I consider has to at least be able to use the 510 atty. If you go with the DSE905 or Screwdriver, you can someday get an adapter and try the 510 atty with it, too, so that gives you another option.

Good luck on your decision Teri.

Well when you use them you don't need a cart. You use them in place of a cart. One model works with 901s and 510s. The other model works with pen styles(801s). They have an o-ring on them so they don't get loose like carts do and the o-ring keeps juice from leaking from where the T-tip connects to the atomizer. When you put them on they snap in place because of the o-ring. They don't have a juice chamber like carts do or filling for the juice. They are used just for direct dripping. The hole on the mouth piece goes straight to the atomizer bridge, so it is kind of like a metal straw. You drip in the mouth piece and since there is no cart you get a more direct hit. The width of the hole is the perfect size for the juice to drip directly onto the atomizer bridge, so there is no more looking into the atomizer and aiming for the bridge while direct dripping. The down side to the hole being the perfect size to hit the atomizer bridge is the juice can kinda settle in the hole. After you drip three drops if you look into the hole you can see the juice "floating" there. This is solved by doing a very little and short blow into the hole. If you blow too hard your atomizer will leak. If you forget to blow you will get juiced but you don't get juiced with these as much as you do with carts. It may sound like since it is just a metal straw to the atomizer that the juice would leak out the mouth piece when not in use. This is not so. I have never had juice leak out of the hole. The only way it could leak is if it is upside down for a while. It solves the problem of melting carts and since it is metal it absorbs some of the heat. It absorbing some of the heat it a good thing. It give this nice warm feeling to your lips. The part that you put against your lips is rounded, so you don't feel sharp edges like you do with round carts but instead it feels like you are kissing tiny lips. I only own the brass ones right now. They make every e-cig I own look better. They make my eGo look like a bottle of champagne. B.E.A.utiful! They don't keep that golden shine for long. They start getting that dirty dark look of pennies but still look nicer than carts. The stainless steel ones might not have that problem. I hope this helps.

Anyway, how they help with dripping and driving is there is no more removing and putting on your cart to drip. It makes the process faster and easier. I pull up to a light, put my e-cig between my legs, drip three drops, do a little short blow, and then vape. These things are so awesome that any direct dripper that doesn't have one must enjoy doing things the hard way and be a masochist. Here is the review that sold me: T-Tip brass mouthpieces

Ann, This is clearly personal choice, there is no right or wrong. Whatever works for you will be okay, heck some people still use polyester batting from the fabric store, some use tea bags, coffee filters, etc. Any Fluval (except charcoal) will work. As in my over 1 year of using various items I feel I have tried pretty much every suggestion and settled on any Fluval that my local store carries, just pack it the way you need to as you will know if it holds enough juice and draws the way you want it to. All the above fillers seem to work -- just each one performs differently, again whatever works for you is a personal preference.

Oh is that right Tinker? Silabo creates their version of the Joye 510 atomizers and they're total crap, (Although not all suppliers will admit to it publicly they will in the private forum) they contain a washer inside of the atomizer (The easy way to tell them apart). The Joye 510 atomizers do not contain a washer. Sure anything from China always has a failure rate but the performance from a Joye 510 far exceeds that of an SLB atomizer, the same goes for quality. Heck just look at all the problems the SLB batteries have, IE batteries staying on even when the button is depressed and this is a constant issue as of late, one that you won't find with Joye Tech. SLB products have a filaure rate upwards of 40% Joye tech is much much lower.

Calling it an "Urban Myth" is calling me a liar, not something I appreciate in my forum.

    Hi Tinker,
If this is an "urban myth" why would Janty say the contrary? They even post pics stating the ones with the coil ring are not a Janty (Joyetech) product. I do agree that the atomizer bridge is different on the Joye atty's compared to the knockoff.
I think the bigger issue is if a supplier is selling the SLB atty's and stating they are Joye. Joye has developed a good reputation and people have come to trust it. If people wanna buy SLB atty's thats fine. They just need to know that they are not buying a Joye product.

Welcome to Vapor Talk Ethan! You found a great place. We love answering questions around here.

I would definately disuade you from purchasing a blu. These units have a very hit-or-miss reputation - mostly miss. You will find that most experienced vapers will recommend a Joye 510 kit for your first experience. It's a quality device with a solid reputation. You'll get consistent results with plenty of battery life as you describe that. You can find these in the Suppliers section on Vapor Talk.

The cartomizers (the 'filter' unit that includes both atomizer and cartridge) like those used in the blu are okay, and for many they are desireable due to the reduced maintenance vs separate attys and carts. But with this convenience you sacrifice a Lot of affordability. You will find that refiling carts, or better, direct dripping onto the atty, is far more economical and provides a more consistent vaping experience.

Take a look at the video section in the forum. You'll find many product reviews and helpful instruction for newbies. Others will come along shortly to give you more and better advice than mine, so keep reading. The folks here all want to help you succeed in your new, healthy life. Good luck and have fun!
