So I am vaping for about a month and have had my eGo for just over two weeks and my T-Atty for a week! It seems like such a short time in the grand scheme of things and it struck m this evening just how quickly you beqin feeling like you get this and begin to stretch your own thinking and boundaries in figuing out what works best for you as your own vaper!

Tonight as I refilled my tank with some very yummy, but somewhat subtle French vanilla I got from vaperite that I would like this with just a bit more punch. Then it dawned on me that that bottle of VT mentha I got, that I found to be a bit much might make an interesting little addition. So I fill the tank and add in a few drops of the mentha and wow what a nice little extra kick that added.

Just a few weeks ago I tripped my way into this forum feeling so confused and just a few weeks later I am mixing flavors that do not sound like they make sense together and finding myself coming every closer to that sweet spot!

It's an amazing journey that I know still has an very long road ahead, but yet tonight, at least for a few minutes I do not feel like a noob, and and having a tasty vape typing on my iPad and thinking - life is pretty good right now!

Thanks to this forum for helping make this moment !

Mike Siegel's new study on e-cigarettes
    EMBARGOED UNTIL 2:30 p.m. ET (February 8, 2011)

Contact: Dr. Michael Siegel (617-638-5167; mbsiegel@bu.edu)

Electronic Cigarettes Show Promise as a Smoking Cessation Tool:
New Study Finds Electronic Cigarettes More Effective Than NRT for Quitting Smoking

A new study being published online ahead of print today in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine reports that electronic cigarettes are a promising tool to help smokers quit, producing six-month abstinence rates that are better than those for traditional nicotine replacement products (NRT). In a six-month follow-up survey of 222 first-time purchasers of Blu electronic cigarettes, researchers from the Boston University School of Public Health found that 31.0% of respondents reported having quit smoking. This compares favorably to an average six-month abstinence rate of between 12% and 18% for NRT products. The authors conclude that electronic cigarettes are a promising method for smoking cessation. The study was led by Dr. Michael Siegel, Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health.

The authors conducted an internet-based survey of a sample of first-time purchasers of Blu electronic cigarettes six months after the initial purchase. The primary findings were the following:

    · 31.0% of the respondents reported having quit smoking at six-month follow-up.
    · Of those who had quit smoking, 34.3% had discontinued the use of electronic cigarettes as well.
    · 66.8% of respondents reported having reduced the number of cigarettes they smoked after using electronic cigarettes.
    · 66.8% of respondents reported having quit smoking for a period of time after using electronic cigarettes.
    · Among respondents using electronic cigarettes frequently (more than 20 times per day), the six-month smoking abstinence rate was 70.0%.

The study’s main limitation is the low response rate of 4.5%. It is possible that those who responded to the survey were more likely to have quit smoking than those who did not respond. Nevertheless, despite this limitation, the study authors believe that this is the best evidence to date on the effectiveness of electronic cigarettes for smoking cessation. They point out that this is the first survey which relied upon an unbiased sampling frame. Despite the limitation, the authors conclude that electronic cigarettes “hold promise as a smoking-cessation method and that they are worthy of further study using more rigorous research designs.”

Dr. Siegel suggested that a major reason for electronic cigarettes’ apparent effectiveness as smoking cessation method is the fact that these devices address both the pharmacologic and behavioral aspects of addiction to smoking: “While it is well-recognized that nicotine plays a role in smoking addiction, little attention has been given to the behavioral aspects of the addiction. It is the fact that these devices simulate the smoking experience which appears to make them effective as a smoking cessation tool.”

A number of anti-smoking groups have argued that electronic cigarettes should be removed from the market because they have not been shown to be effective for smoking cessation, and several states – including New York – are considering bans on electronic cigarettes. “This study suggests that electronic cigarettes are helping literally thousands of ex-smokers to remain off cigarettes,” Dr. Siegel stated.
“Banning this product would invariably result in thousands of ex-smokers returning to cigarette smoking. Removing electronic cigarettes from the market would substantially harm the public’s health.”

Co-authors of the study were Kerry L. Tanwar and Kathleen S. Wood, also of the Boston University School of Public Health.

I think MsTsBakery also still sells sample packs/sizes. Plus she has the little buddy to carry them in if you want to buy something cool to beat the shipping costs.

A lot of the vendors do have Free Shipping over certain dollars spent. I wish they all did. There is also a Master Coupon List somewhere that will help to offset the costs of shipping. Also, many times, if you mention you are a new to them buyer, you'll recieve a discount or a freebie. It's usually listed on their home page somewhere.

I usually do what DJ suggested, and buy on different paydays so that it doesn't feel like a lot. Once or twice I've had to pay up a bunch of s&H totals and it sucked, but it was worth it when my orders arrived and I forgot all about the S&H pains.

Ok well I had a good reply for ya, repling on my phone, and a slip of the finger, and poof all gone, damn!
So I'm gonna try to keep this short this time, lol

Ok, so what I do is, if I have say 3 flavors from 3 different vendors I absolutly have to have. To get started, pick a vendor, order the 1 juice you want from them and have them include a sample of one of the other 2 flavors you would buy from a different vendor. Sometimes you'll like that same flavor from that vedor and you just wiped one vendor off the list.

Also you can add hardware to your order to make that order worth it. And too if you find a vendor you really like contact them and let them know you plan to order from them a lot or all the time, usually they will give ya a discount code to use and if ya cont. To order from them and its worth their while they may even give ya your own personal discount code, not all vendors will do this but if ya do order a lot from them say at least every few weeks they might conside it to kinda lock ya into buying from them, its smart biz on their end and you get a nice lil discount from um. Win win

Welcome drummingchef, glad you found VT this soon into your e cig experience. I too started with the cigarette looking ecigs and was getting frustrated and thought it wasn't going to work out well. But then, I found VT and everyone help direct me as to what to buy and where to find videos on direct dripping, refilling carts, and the wonderful world of cartos and tanks. When I got my ego from VT Store, I was in heaven. Within a matter of minutes I was filling and vaping with a cartomizer. Man what a difference! A week or so ago, I ordered the Tornado Tank atomizer and carts from Totally Wicked. Unfortunately the atomizer did not work (DOA), but TW quickly responded to my email and instructed me to send it back to them. This does happen occasionally. Like everything else, sometimes things just don't work. The great thing about VT Forum, the members, with their experience and feedback, helped me find good vendors to buy from so when something happens I don't have to worry about customer service. No matter where you get juice from, that is not returnable. So at first, order a small quantity to see if you like the taste and the nic strength. Make sure you check out the difference between PG and VG. I'm sorry but I am still quite new on VT forum and I haven't been able to figure out how to post links to videos or web pages. But, PG and/or VG is what is added to liquid nic (besides flavoing). PG is thinner then VG and if you are direct dripping VG is great because you get a lot of vapor. But when you are filling carts/cartos you would not want 100% or a high VG. Buying prefilled carts/carto is not the best idea. They are so easy to fill your self and its less expensive.

Check out the forum, do searches or just post any questions you might have. Experience vapers will be able to answer any of your questions. Also, VT Store has some really good eliquids and they sell empty cartos. I personally love their Dulcis and Midnight eliquids. Their prices are comparable to the other reputable vendors and they have super fast shipping. They stand behind their products and the customer service is the best.

    Good luck and welcome again.

I'd say (and many others will too, once they are awake!) to get an eGo or a knock-off of such a device (Riva, Tornado). It is about the thickness of some smaller cigars and depending on the mAh, either short or long.

The different ways to enjoy it are mounting up: atomizers with cartidges, cartomizers, tanks with their respective atomizers, and drip tips on atomizers. I've had my eGo since September and it's worked really great. I use an atomizer with a drip tip while at home and cartomizers when driving.

There are lots of places to purchase liquid to enjoy. You won't find one that tastes like your favorite brand of smokes because there is so much else in them that give them their "special" (ick!) taste. After a while you'll be ordering up many different flavors that sound good to you to see what you like the best. I like coffee types because, well, coffee tastes good to me. I also like more smooth flavors like caramel and toffee. I didn't end up caring for really sweet candy liquids or fruity flavors, though I thought I would. Lots of places sell sample size liquids and you can order a bunch to see what you'd order in a larger size later.

The Noobie Guide and the Jargon For Noobs posts here will help tons on the basics.

We're glad you're here and want to kick that pack a day habit with something better than the blu. Feel free to ask any other questions you have! We're happy to help.

Here's a tutorial from HighPing that might help: Be sure to read the entire instructions first before trying. Many tips were added after the initial listing.

    1. Blow out any excess juice.
    2. Rinse with hot water and blow out thoroughly. (no need to dry over night, or anything. They have a built in dryer )
    3. Connect to battery...preferably something higher voltage than stock. I use my variable voltage power supply that's connected to a PS passthrough and set it to about 5.2V for a 510 (6.5ish for an 801), but if all you have is stock, then that will work too.
    4. Push button until you see orange hot...carefully...not super bright (white hot).
    5. Let off button and blow down the barrel (from a distance, not with your mouth actually on it), this kind of flash cools it and also gets some of the moist air out to speed the drying process.
    6. Repeat (steps 4 and 5) 5-10 times... you will see that gradually (once you've got it dry) the glow will occur much quicker.
    7. Once you have it to this point, press and release the button at a rate that just holds the orange glow (kind of a manual 'pulse width modulate'). Keep this glow going for 20-30 seconds, being very careful to maintain the glow at low orange (not bright red/white) or you'll pop it.
    8. Once you have done that, repeat steps 2-7 one more time.

At this point you will have an atty that performs like (or better than) brand new. I have used this technique with 510, 801, 901, 401, and 4081 attys and it always works for me. I like this method because it is quick and simple. No need for any cleaners or overnight soaking. Takes 2-3 minutes and you're back in business.

** You do have to use some caution, as you can pop an atty pretty easily until you have the method down. I haven't popped one in quite some time though.

**Also, no need to remove the wick (that's in there for a reason), as you are baking all the gunk out when you do this. This is the reason for the second rinse in the middle of the process. You basically turn the gunk to ash with the sustained orange glow, then rinse the ash out.

If anyone tries this, give some feedback and let me know if you find any ways to perfect this method. Seems to work great, but there are always ways to improve

Edit: (some tips on the "rinse, dry and burn" stages of the process)

**Tips on the 'rinse' stage (step 2)
Step 2 is meant to get as much juice out of the atty as possible. The more juice you can get out with the water rinse, the faster you will get the atty dry in steps 4&5. (The water will evaporate off much quicker than juice.)
    - Rinse by just running hot water from the tap first. Then once you have it somewhat clean, fill the atty barrel with water then (before all the water runs out), put it in your lips and blow the water through really hard. This will give all the nickel foam that's in the atty a kind of "power wash" and get most of any remaining juice out.

**Tips on the 'dry' stage (steps 4 & 5):
Steps 4 and 5 are meant to get the atty 'bone dry', before you move on to step 6 and the button pulsing.
-The more water you can blow out before connecting to the batt, the better. Blow through the atty really hard from both ends (not at the same time)
    - You can also blow gently down the barrel (from a distance), while holding the button in step 4 to speed the drying process. This will clear the hot moist air out of the atty and allow for a quicker drying time. The key in these steps is to get the atty dried out.

Tips on the 'Burn' stage (step 7)
The whole key to not popping the atty is keeping a good visual on the coil, and watching the hottest part while pulsing the button. I have had a few attys that will get bright hot on one end of the coil and nothing on the other end of the coil. The way to make this method the most effective is to maintain that orange glow at the hottest end while pulsing the button. If you keep it up long enough you will see the glow slowly migrate across the coil. When you are all done the entire coil should glow when the button is pressed.
Once you are past the drying step, you should not hold the button for more than one second. It should really be much shorter than that. More like a button pulse of 2-3 times a second.

    Here goes:
Why? Backups, that's why? LOL And battery life. I went from the 510 to the eGo for battery life. One hour on the 510 battery to 4 to 6 hours on the eGo battery was a big deal for me. I love my Silver Bullet (it takes the 18650 battery) because I can go a day and a half with a battery in it. I can also use different batteries and vape at 6v if I want. Or use my PT and vape at 5v. Altsmoke is no longer selling the PT through for the SB though. The SB is a powerhouse/workhorse. It's heavy and very durable. Very high quality. I like that about it. And the batteries will always be available - even if batteries like the eGo are no longer available (as in the event of a ban). I know of people who have had a SB for about two years now, so yes, they do last. I've had mine for about 10 months and it's just as good today as the day I got it.

I bought the Provape 1 as a backup and because the batteries will always be available. It takes the 14500 - the same as the Mark Mod. The battery life and the availability of them is a big benefit, too. I've only had mine for about a month, so can say exactly how long it will last. But, since it has a lifetime warranty on it, I'd say it will probably last a good long time. You can see the Provape 1 here: http://www.provape.com/category-s/3.htm They also make the Provari and everyone who has one is raving about them. That's an adjustable voltage PV. With the turn of a dial you can go from 3.7v to 6v and everything in between. It's a bit more pricey, but I think it's worth the money.

Drawbacks? None that I know of - on either the SB or the Provape 1.

More cost effective? Yes, in my opinion, they are. Much more.

The only parts you would need with either the SB or the Provape 1 are batteries. And they both take the 510 attys. Or, if you prefer, you can buy an adapter and use the 901 attys on them. Oh! And you can use the 306 attys on them. Lots of options.

For something a bit different, you might want to look at something like the Ali'i. It's a handmade, wooden PV that is a juice box. That means it has a bottle of juice inside the box, which you squeeze to get the juice into the atty instead of dripping all the time. It's a beautiful mod and something I think would be very, very convenient. It's pretty pricey though. It also takes the 18650 battery and uses a 510 (or the others I mentioned above) atty. You can look at them here: http://www.rnrmanufacturing.com/Alii-Custom-Order_p_30.html I think I probably broke down and ordered one a couple of weeks ago. (if only Mark made something like this <big sigh>)

There is also the "Stu's Illuminated Juice Box". It's made of plastic, but is basically the same as the Ali'i - a juice box mod. Not nearly as pricey either. Ron does a wonderful paint job on them, too. You can get a hook added to the top of these and then get a lanyard for it so you can wear it around your neck. Nice. You'd never drop it that way and would always know right where it is. It takes the 14500 battery. Well, you can get other versions that take different sized batteries, too. See Uma's picture in the gallery to see the ones she has. Beautiful!!! I liked them so much, I ordered two.

How do you choose a mod? Hmmm. You ask other people what they have and what they like and what is good and what is not good. Oh wait!! You did that. LOL So now you go look at what they are talking about to see if you like them or not. Some things you will like, some you won't. Don't get anything you don't like the looks of. The SB is great, but it is really BIG. You might not want something that big and could rule that out. Otherwise, pay attention to all the features and decide what you need and what you don't. After much thought, you'll figure out what it is you want and need. I've gone through a lot of different PVs since I started vaping. I pretty much liked everything (except the DSE905 - yuck!). I just moved on to bigger and better things. After I got the eGo last February and the SB last May, I didn't feel the need for anything different at all. And until last month when I got the Provape 1 as a backup, I was still good. And then people started talking about the Ali'i and the Stu's Illuminated Juice Box. And they put up links to go look at them. And I fell in love! I couldn't help myself. Honestly, I've been waiting for a really good juice box mod to come out. It's what I've wanted all along. I just hope they live up to my expectations. If they don't? Well, I'm still happy with the others I have. But I think I'm going to be really and truly happy with the juice boxes. It's all about what you want and what works best for you.

    Good luck!!

    Welcome to Vapor Talk, Erika!

The cartridges are not usually interchangeable - depending on what you get. All 510s are the same no matter what the "brand name" is. But a 510 is not interchangeable with say a 801.

Refilling is easy. Direct dripping is easier and better all around.

You can buy the cheap one locally, but I wouldn't advise it. You probably wouldn't be happy with it at all. In my opinion, you'd be much better off starting with the eGo. It's the perfect starting device (and remains a favorite no matter what else you get later on), is easy to use, is small enough it's not "scary" for first time user, is a great fit in the hand, and lots of dealers carry it.

Keep asking questions and you'll know what you want to get soon enough. Everyone will do their best to answer your questions and help you out.

    Good luck!!

Hey Basil, thanks for the notes, always appreciate feedback! I wasn't aware that not having the wiring and resistor enclosed on a stacked battery setup could potentially be more hazardous than any other exposed wire job on other mods. I haven't messed around on that top cap at all, but from what I can see, the wiring seems to be really well shielded and tucked away. Then again, he has a lot of crap stuffed up there. In my research I've always found AW batteries to be a fairly safe battery. Maybe I'm putting too much faith in my power choice?

I really hope that you can get your issues squared away with Jay on that unit, I know what you mean by wanting to love a device. I've been really lucky with the performance on mine, and I hope you can experience the same quality product. That being said, I'd also be interested in seeing your re-review of the GLV-2 and hearing what your experience has been, your reviews have always been really informative for me.

    Have an awesome weekend!

I'm getting ready to re-review the GLV2 for YouTube. I want to like it...but I've had such piss-poor luck with the GLV2 quality control. Jay rushes stuff out the door far to quickly, and overlooks little things.

Schlitz, this a nice review, but I was hoping you wouldn't give him credit for not finishing the top-cap of the PV. Those wires are exposed and should not be fore safety purposes. It's a stacked battery unit...the design should have called for closing off of the wiring for added protection.

ok so i got the map tank, this thing is somewhat big but with how it looks you must buy one
with a drip tip on it, its about 65mm long (length of 18650 battery) and about as round as a cr123a
looks like this was a factory design unlike the other tank i got.
pretty happy so far with it.
if i leave my tekk laying down with the tank on it i do get some flooding. so if you can stand your mod/ecig upright if you have or plan to get one.
the vape on mine is much cooler than that of a carto. that took some getting used to but after a half day of vaping im pretty used to it.
now also with either device you can remove the e2 in it, provided they were to die.
i tried this with my stormy and totally broke the e2 in there.. not that i was going to use it anyways but if i wanted to i could buy a pack of e2 for either and replace them.
so if you look at it that way, that your paying for a reusable tank its not a bad investment.

Since you already have an eGo, you may want to try the new Tank attomizer for the eGo.

I totally agree with you on this statement! For some strange reason... I don't see this ever being a reality for Mark! I mean, what better place is there other than his garage making "Marks Mods", to pound down those ice cold Miller Lights?

Uma got a reaction from Glen in List Of Ingredients In Regular Cigarettes
This list is 3 pages long. The FDA and is trying to ban our eCigs and make us go back to regular tobacco which contains ingredients approved by them. It's quit cold turkey, or go back to cigs and die. Quit or die. I don't believe in banning cigs, ecigs, or lightbulbs. I believe in freedom of choice. Which would you rather choose? Not yet approved eCigs with 4-6 ingredients (PG or VG or both, flavoring, sweetener). or approved cigareetes with something like 4000 ingredients approved by the FDA....

Can't quite yet drop that lingering pack a week? Read this!

This has happen to me too. I found that if I take a pack of book matches, (you know, the old time, pull off a match and strike it on the rough strip)pull off a match, take the end that was pulled off (NOT the match end)and gently put it in your atty. The paper will absorb the excess juice. I got tired of rolling paper towels up and my over active mind came up with this idea.

    Hope its useful

You've some nice toys to play with!
What works best for me is to take slow and easy drags. Not much more powerful than inhaling air through your nose/mouth with your mouth closed. hmmm, hard to explain.

To get extra vapor and TH, try this:
slow & easy 2 or 3 second drag, release button inhale, take another slow & easy 3 or 4 second drag while exhaling a little bit of the previous draw through your nose. Release button, inhale and then exhale for a good 10 minutes lol. Okay, not that much, but *almost!*.

Slow and easy wins the race.

Welcome to VT Gone Wild and welcome to the world of vaping. The whole concept is relatively new here too, but the word is getting out thanks to celeb's and movies. The e-cig industry is growing quickly, but the US government has decided to get involved. Their not getting their cut of taxes like they get with analogs. New Yorkers have been hit hard by the governments paddle. I'm sure there will be a ripple effect and other states will jump on the band wagon. Vapers must unite and stop the government.

It sounds like you got a lot of new toys to play with. You know what they say "The only difference between men and boys are the cost of their toys" LOL. Well, in the case of e-cigs, that saying goes for women too. Just speaking for myself.

There are a lot of really great video's here on VT that explains how to use your e-cigs to the fullest of their abilities. Also, how to clean atty's, refill and clean carts and cartos, and reviews on different ecigs and e liquid. Depending on what the vendor uses in their liquid, will effect the TH and the amount of vapor you get.

After buying a couple of duds, I found this forum. I am not a proud owner of the eGo and I am loving every puff. I ordered the Tornado Tank system to add to my eGo battery. It came in this past Saturday, but it was DOA. That happens sometimes. I ordered it from Totally Wicked and they quickly responded to my email. I sent it back to them yesterday. Everything I have read on VT about their customer service, I'm not expecting any problems and I'm looking forward to either and new one or my being repaired. I can wait!

You have to check out www.vaporrenu.com . They have some great juice and you can customize your juice. There is also a coupon code you can use that will save you 15% "nujuice". Return customers can save 10% by using coupon code "renu".

The people here on VT are really friendly and will answer any questions you have. They have loads of experience. Also, check out VT Store. They ship out at lighting speed and they too will answer and questions you might have about the products.

    Happy vaping in Africa

Welcome openminde you are into a mind blowing way of life. You have done well with your purchases because your Tornado Tank battery and your eGo battery are one in the same just different names, made by the same company. You will have to use the tank atomizers with the tank system and from what I have read you will have to use the atomizer that will come with the Leo with only the Leo. Are you somewhere you will be able to order and get your supplies?

I have not smoked in over three months and I was a pack a day smoker for 48 years and quit the first week I started vaping. It is the greatest thing I know to substitute for smoking.

    Good luck with your adventure.

In the vaping world there is no such thing as having too many supplies !!!
You will love vaping. The Ego will be a great place to begin learning the tricks of vaping, but I am sure you will be playing with all your new toys

I love being to vape anytime and anywhere I want. No more waiting for that next cigarette, no stink either.

You are in for an amazing adventure.
