  1. Why so long on the butts?  I was told 6-8 hrs to do the one I have

If you are cooking at the proper temp (230-250) it will still be raw at 6 hours in the middle and about as tender as strap leather. This is my test. I stick a fork in one side then the other side. If the forks pick up the meat instead of tearing through its not done imo. If my temp gets above 240 then I spray my firebox to cool it back down, cooking at too high of a temp is about the worst thing you can do for a butt in my experience. In a  perfect world my temp will fluctuate between 225 and 230 for 20-22 hours. Its a pain to get up every two hours throughout the night to check the temp but necessary if you are as OCD as me about stuff being perfect lol.

Another thing I like to smoke is King Mackerel when I can get it fresh. Smoked fish dip on a cracker with a dab of Crystal Hot Sauce is hard to beat for an app!

  2. Have Hickory and some Mesquite Waiting for Wife to get back so I can start lol

Nice   so ya got any secret recipes you wanna share :):)

I use "Stubbs" rib rub on my butts I spice up with more garlic, cayenne and salt and pepper. See the above post about my drip pan method I use it has won my old team several trophies lol. The main thing is constant temperature and giving it time to get the nice rings and bark on the outside. I do not injection baste at all and use only the rub and apple slices on the butt for additional flavor. I like to use Shiner Bock, apples, oranges and just about any fruit juice you like in my infusion drip pan.

In reality its all about the time and temperature. Even a completely unrubbed unseasoned butt will be awesome with the proper amount of smoke. Some people like to wrap theirs about 8 hours into cooking to not get it too smoky. I think that takes away from the bark (crust) that develops on the outside of the butt. I only use hickory or apple wood for smoke the first 7-8 hours of cooking then straight charcoal. Dont let the temp get above 250 or it will get tough and the bark will be too hard. I also cook the first 7-8 hours "skin side up" to allow the infusion from the drip pan to get into the meat I plan to eat PLUS it lets the rendered fat to drip down the meat sealing in your rub so when you flip it over to skin side down all you have to worry about is temp.

  3. When I am "really" cooking butts I usually put them on about 3pm the day before and keep my indirect heat as close to 230 as I can and let them go 20-22 hours. Usually that is around 70-80lbs of charcoal and quite a bit of hickory cut from my yard and I cure it myself. I prefer logs and sticks to chips. Usually I do 5 or 6 at a time because I only do it for "events" anymore.

When I want to smoke a butt for a small gathering or to take somewhere and do not want to take the time I will cook it in the oven on 250 with a drip pan overnight then carefully put it on the smoker with heavy smoke for 4-5 hours. It doesnt get the beautiful rings and bark I like but works well and everyone seems to like it.

Another trick is I keep a huge aluminum drip pan under the meat with apple juice, beer, apple slices, orange slices and other fruit based on how I feel and what I have on hand. Over the 20-22 hour cook time all the liquid evaporates and infuses the meat with the subtle flavor of the drip pans ingredients PLUS all the drippings are contained and easy to discard.

  4. I only use charcoal and hickory and apple wood to smoke meat and used to do it quite regularly before we got so into boating. Now I only do it a few times a year but used to do competitions. I am originally from Memphis area so smoking meat is something we grew up doing.

I have never used an electric or gas smoker or grill, have always said I could do the same thing in the oven and have proven it several times lol. Two butts, side by side, mine in oven and others on electric smoker and those tasting could not tell us which was which lol.

  5. I am on a plan to becoming debt free in a lot of areas the next 7 years but just cannot bring myself to drive an older car. We bought an 09 with 75000 miles waiting on the new body style Yukon to come out when our last lease was up and it about killed us. It's the technology and comfort that I am a fan of plus I'm no mechanic and back in the day I got stranded too many times lol. When this lease is up we plan to take the plunge and buy our 15 Yukon and drive it till the wheels fall off it, by far the favorite of all we have driven. Just gonna have to force ourself to do it and I can cover it with warranty another 7 years at that point. I will continue to lease my daily driver as long as I can drive a $36k MSRP Terrain for $244 a month like now with all maintenance and full warranty for the entire term. To me that's a no brainier the way I think about things lol.

  6. Cesar I think you will be the first person I have ever hidden from my forum view in almost 3 years active here. You do not know at all how to interact with other people. Comp is a long time respected member, a great guy and you are a noob that refuses to take advice and gives horrible advice and this is the last straw for me. Has nothing to do with grammar more name calling and overall assholish tone to your posts.

See ya later, well I won't.

Hope I wasn't too road about it.

  7. Well.. they are well off, the difference is massive. As soon as you crank the power up is a totally different experience, I rather burn my coils faster and get that nice hits..coils are cheap anyway.

Exactly, especially when you use KPT single coils lol. The slightest drop in performance and I just toss it and pop a new one on. Last week my IStick somehow came unlocked and I took a big pull at 50w with my 1.8ohm coil and after I was done gagging, the coil had to be laid to rest. Fried that *****.

  8. Those are general guidelines for maximizing performance and life of your coil. I vape at 7.5-8w using 1.8ohm depending on the age of the coil (as the taste starts to degrade I have found cranking from 7.5 to 8w will keep it going for another day or two. Its still subjective and no chart can say what any one person will prefer.

  9. I said on a Saturday that on Monday I was done and made the swap and really never had a problem. I think anyone trying to quit should use 24mg period and get a decent battery and tank (you can get great equipment for the cost of a couple cartons of smokes). Within a couple days I knew I would never have another cigarette and that was 4-23-13 and I haven't since.

With that said my wife is a couple months behind me because she kept an "emergency pack" in her car. Until she did away with that she never fully committed. With a few exceptions I would hazard to guess the vast majority of people will continue to smoke if you have them on hand. After about a month she finally got tired of it (and as I regained my smell and tastebuds and she did we both realized how disgusting we had smelled for so long) and gave them up alltogether.

About 3 months in to her and 4 in for me we traded Yukons and found a pack under the seat and laughed as we tossed it in the garbage. Its all there for you to quit but it takes three things

    1. Equipment good enough to transport a sufficient amount of vapor and nicotine

    2. Willingness and truly being ready to do it

    3. Liquid that you like AND has an appropriate level of nicotine to curb your cravings

    Best of luck!

  10. Gummy Blood is nasty, I will give you that. I never got a chemical aftertaste but I only use one flavor from them "Endless Summer". It is the only flavor in any of my tanks for over 2 years I like it so much. After trying it everything else I have tried literally tastes bad now. Tastes vary in liquids. There are even people that like Dekang and there is NOTHING I have tried since starting vaping that tasted that bad to me lol.

  11. Luckily I never had any symptoms except a bit of heartburn. I rarely drink water and never had a hydration issue but I know many that have and Tam is spot on there. My IStick sleeps between my pillows and I puff till I fall asleep and then hit it a couple times if I wake up to go to the bathroom without ill effects. I did drop from 24mg down to 18mg because it was causing heartburn and I never realized how much better 18mg tasted lol. Its just that I go through about 75% more liquid in a day at 18mg than I did 24mg.

I said I had no issues with dehydration and that is not entirely true. Memorial Day before last (2013) we were on our boat all weekend at an on the water festival we go to every year and on Friday night and Saturday-Saturday night I drank like I was in Panama City on Spring Break lol. Late Saturday evening I started noticing my ankles swelling and had pins and needles in my extremities. We went home early Sunday and I propped my feet up but had not urinated in over 12 hours. I started drinking water and more water and still nothing coming out. I got up on Monday and went to work and by 3pm I did not know where I was. They took me to the hospital where I was given IV fluids and had a host of tests run and the official diagnosis was "Congestive Heart Failure brought on by severe dehydration". I am not sure how much to blame on the 24mg nic I was chain vaping as I finished a 1.75 of Makers Mark in a 24 hour period in 95 degree weather before we bought the new boat with AC lol.

The thing to remember is everyone's physiological makeup is different and things ingested will always have different effects on different people. When I quit smoking my allergies instantly disappeared (mainly pollen) and I do not even have to medicate in the worst pollen. Where we live is ranked #1 of any city over 100k population with regards to outdoor allergies.

  12. Those that know me know that is all I vape. Just got an email where they are offering 25% off through Sunday at midnight by entering coupon code "SANTA25".

I went ahead and ordered another 500ml of my flavor, was like buy 3 get 1 free!

    Just sharing. www.fuzionvapor.com

  13. Ok my thoughts. Keep away from the garbage starter kits. For the cost of 2 cartons of cigarettes you could buy a Starter kit with:

    2 Vision Spinner 2 1600mah batteries

2 Tanks (I prefer Aspire Davides or Kanger Pro Tanks without the Aero base but only use the single coils I will not buy any tank that will not use single coils)

1 Charger and wall adapter (I would buy an extra for $10-$12)

    Case

Then as far as liquids go you will have to experiment. I actually agree with one thing Cesar said. I would probably not been successful had I not found a tobacco flavor that did a good enough job of mimicking an analog. For me that was Sweet-Vapes Traditional Tobacco. Most vapers I know started that way BUT at the 3-6 month time frame when their tastebuds started to heal the taste of tobacco starts to be a turn off and then they start exploring other flavors. I went from 80pg-20vg 24mg Tobacco to a Max VG Strawberry Lemonade blend in 18mg that I still use exclusively today. My wife from day 1 has used 24mg 80pg-20vg ECBlends Peppermint and only recently dropped to 18mg. I see us both being at 18mg the rest of the time we vape.

As far as suppliers go I use 3 only and have never gotten anything but great service!:

    Liquids: fuzionvapor.com and ecblendsflavors.com

  14. As a service member and gun enthusiast I'm glad i live in Kansas. Open carry has almost always been legal and as of july 1st concealed carry with no permit is legal.

I'll leave my opinions on muslims to myself. They're not the friendliest.

Living in Tennessee we do not have the strictest gun laws and I am a gun enthusiast as well. As far as the bolded I would caution anyone to not "throw the baby out with the bathwater" and generalize, just my 2 cents. I pretty much keep my mouth shut about all religions because I am not religious and see fallacies in about all sects of any religion.

EDIT to add I am not looking for a debate on the Muslim religion as a whole except will add they are entitled to the same Constitutional protection as Baptists or Catholics. I have several friends that are devout Muslims and even have one in my Scout Pack I am the leader of that are more normal than most people I know from other religions.

  15. Now that is a lot of backups! I need to follow this kind of example. I swear it's not so that I can buy more gear!

And on all my hardware in my 2.5 years of vaping I still have spent a sum total of less than 2 months of smoking between the wife and I. Then again I used Vision Spinners exclusively for a long time and could care less about the newest shiny stuff lol. It took me 3 months to decide to buy the wife and I an Istick 50w and it is just for the 3-4 day battery life. You do not have to break the bank to have a good supply of backups like some people do. I personally spent roughly $550 a month on analogs. I cannot fathom spending anywhere near that on Vape gear lol. My wife and I vape on a budget of about $100 a month give or take.

  16. I cannot even list all the backups I have at this point especially now that we switched to the IStick 50w. Probably 15 assorted Spinner and Spinner 2s with a half dozen chargers and all worts, I buy coils by the 50 pack (when I open the new 50 pack I order another) and when I get down to 125ml of my flavor I order another 250ml. I keep 2 backup batteries, a tank, a bottle of liquid and a charger on the boat, 2 backups, a tank, bottle of liquid and a charger at work and the rest are at home. I want to keep a backup kit in my car but it just gets too hot and that concerns me.
