Depending on how much power you're applying to the atomizer's coil, you can figure roughly 2-3 pulls per drop. With most drip atties, you can drip 3-4 drops in without flooding or leaking.

It's usually kind of hard to flood a drip atomizer because before it gets to the point of submerging the coil, the juice will just leak out the bottom of the atty and all over you.

With a drip shield installed, you can (conveniently) put much more e liquid (say, 8-10 drops) in your atomizer at a time, and any leaking e juice is trapped inside the drip shield between two o-rings. If your flavor/vapor drops off, you can just take a quick, unpowered pull on the atty and that will cause the extra liquid inside the shield to be drawn back up into the atty for you to vape.

The gurgling you might hear when using a drip shield is just the extra juice being sucked back into the atomizer's housing...it's completely normal. Some atties I've used gurgle a little without a drip shield, but it's basically the same deal...juice being pulled up from the depths of the atty and closer to the coil and wick.

I agree with CaseAce. You'll never know how many times I've written the same message out, and then deleted before sending.
Some genesis attys leak like a faucet when laid down, while others do the drip, pause, pause, drip... it depends on the genny and on how it's prepped. Making sure the airhole is sky-up helps, if you must lay it down, helps prevent a lot of leaks.
But they are for the advanced users. (I have a Zenesis which has in fact emptied itself in th 5 minutes it fell on it's side before I noticed, and I have 2 out of 3 MMVapors genesis attys that haven't leaked at all. I'm not saying one is better, than the other, but the way they are built and the way we build the wick and coils does make a difference!).

Once you know your OHMs, Resistances, Volts, Watts, and have a stockpile of good ol' cartos and whatnots, then you're good to go ahead and begin the wonderful world of new learning curves.

But, to answer the OP's post question... "Is there any system that works consistently?" I have to say, yes!!!, the genesis, once you're past the learning curves. Getting past those curves can be ... fun, or it can be extremely frustrating, or most often, both.
Like we said though, they are NOT FOR The beginner!!

Want the truth? Well here it is, EVERY system out there has a flaw. It depends on what you're willing to compromise on. The Vivi Novas don't leak but, provide a dry/burnt hit depending on the juice viscosity. Bobas being the thickest just won't work. I place all top fed clearos in the same category. They are also very hit and miss with the heads. One could be great and the next garbage. To me this system will never work consistently enough to use. The whole design fights itself. The coil is at the top and the wicks hang down to wick the juice up to the coil, all the time fighting gravity. This style people have been trying to get right for 2 years now and while the Vivi nova works the best it still has the issues former models had. Just not as often. Bottom coil clearos work better but still have leaking issues and still have consistency issues. Cartomizers have had consistency issues as well (bogegate) but for the most part that has behind us now. The good thing is that if one or 2 in a box don't work well you're not out very much money. Bad thing with thick juices is that the kill cartos very quick (2-3 days) They also mute flavor. Great thing about them is no leaking and very pocketable even a tank. All in all I believe they are the most consistent. I use Bobas in a carto tank at work most days. Atomizers have better flavor than cartomizers but tend to leak and splatter back in your mouth at times. Even with a drip shield they tend to leak and also make the draw much tighter than I like. You also need to keep a bottle with you to drip. Also remember "Friends don't let friends drip and drive."Lol Genesis atomizers have the best flavor but have a bit of a learning curve. They also aren't very pocketable as they leak when laid down. I prefer these to carto tanks when not at work. The flavor is that much better. There are also a couple enigmas that don't really fit into just one category. The Penelope is a rebuildable atomizer but it's surrounded by a tank that doesn't leak and has an adjustable juice control. The GP Spheroid is kind of a rebuildable cartomizer but also uses a wick to pull the juice from the batting. It also doesn't leak and has better flavor than a traditional cartomizer and since it's much bigger than a standard carto holds much more juice. I haven't tried either but both look promising. So there ya go. While none of the systems are perfect some are more consistent and solve more problems than others. Figure out what is really important and what you're willing to sacrifice and figure out what works for you. For me it was 2 systems. A carto tank for work and while I'm out and about because leaking is my primary concern. While at home I don't have to sacrifice flavor for portability so I use my genesis attys.

No no no, I meant, in a few weeks, hopefully I can send you a nicer/safer clone, like an AGA-T+ ... so you can toss out your chid. They're only 20+ bucks (avg 25). The chid is NOT citrus friendly. But, yes, it's an okay one for learning how to wrap those coils... but you will get the top coil hot spot. Don't let it get you down if you can't work out the hot spots on that chid. The insulators are rubbish, the center post hole is too large for the post, the wick hole is too far from the center post, ... it has too many "wrongs" and not enough rights. It was the Chinese's FIRST try at the Rebuildables. (might be a collector's item someday though LOL)

I have heard that the lemon flavored liquids will do crazy things to tanks. Maybe it's eating the paint off your end caps?? And, yes... cartos are disposable for a reason.

I'm sure to be in the minority here... but I honestly don't like the Silver Bullet button. It's hard on my big ol fingers... both SB's I've had I've ended up having to push that button really hard to fire it. That's not too pleasant really. I just prefer 'clicky' buttons.

And have them explain to you how to use the Z-Max properly. It can either be used as a variable voltage device... or a variable power device. You need to understand the difference between the two... and how to use it in each setting. Many people like the variable power (variable wattage) setting because once you find your 'sweet spot'... you can simply set it to 8.5 watts (if that's what you like) and it will adjust the output for any atomizer or cartomizer that you screw on to the device. In other words, if you have some 2.0 ohm atomizers and some 3.0 ohm atomizers, it will read the resistance and adjust the power output of the device to the specified 8.5 watts from before. Good luck and enjoy.

Exactly, those other devices may 'do more things', or have a few more options... but they just simply are not built nearly as well as the Provari. Not a chance. Therefore, I must second the Provari, especially if you want something that is both durable and beautiful ! You really DO get what you pay for when you are talking about the Provari vs. mod-x.

My first introduction to EC Blend's site was from Rixter. He raved about the chocolate malt flavor from this vendor. Even though I have an allergy to chocolate (yes, I know. It's a terrible thing), I decided to give it a try to see if I could vape it. My first order was for a 15 ml bottle of chocolate malt and the same of vanilla malt (6 mg nic, 50 PG/50 VG, extra flavor).

They arrived very quickly and I tried the vanilla right away. It was very good, but after letting it steep for a week or so (as recommended on the flier sent with the liquids), it was even better! The chocolate malt was tried very carefully as I didn't know if it would produce a reaction. What a wonderful surprise to find I could vape this!!!

Since then I've been ordering all kinds of different flavors...in all nearly three dozen different flavors. Nearly all of them in the 5 ml bottles to see what I liked. There have been only two flavors that didn't taste good to me but all flavors, no matter who the vendor, is very subjective.

When I find a flavor I like I order bigger bottles. Pineapple and Dragon's Tear were ordered in 30 ml bottles.

Did I mention that EC Blends ships their e-liquids packed inside TWO sealed plastic bags? Good thing, too, because these two separate orders did indeed leak. Not much but just enough to smear the labels.

So I emailed them to ask for replacement labels. I keep empty glass bottles with drippers around so it was easy to transfer the liquid. I just wanted the original labels to put on them for reference.

They replied that they were aware of the problem with the bottles, changed the types of lids they were using and were sending replacements. Cool. Not only new labels but new bottles to boot! Imagine my surprise when the replacement bottles came filled with e-juice!

    Now that's great customer service.

Their website is full of really good, useful information. They believe in transparency in their business model so you know what they use. I really like that you can also request custom blends at no extra charge. There's a lot of different options you can choose in every flavor. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming, but on the whole, it's a very nice touch.

Their prices are comparable to other vendors, more often on the low side. The choices of flavors is amazing! They even have roast beef, pizza, butter, pepper, Worchestershire sauce and a variety of other...unusual...flavors. I haven't been brave enough to try those yet. Maybe someday.

All in all, I can't recommend their site enough. There's oodles of information about nearly everything e-liquid related on their site and their customer service is just amazing.

If you decide to try them out, I'd love to hear your experiences.

I second the rec for Empire Mods and the universal drip tip. Not only does this funny looking over-long drip tip keep you from getting juice in your mouth, it also helps to cool the vapor a bit. I don't care for warm vapor, especially when I'm chain vaping using the direct drip method.

I've had some seriously great luck with these:

    http://www.empiremods.com/product_p/brdg5105.htm

To finish off the package... grab yourself a 'drip shield'(and sealed 510 extension if needed... don't need with a eGo batt), a Cherry Vape 'Universal' (http://www.empiremods.com/product_p/chrryuni.htm), and a 'drip tip'... and you are good to go. The 'Universal' allows you to seriously drip 6 - 8 drops of ejuice and not have to worry at all about juice spitting back in your mouth when you vape. I use them all the time because of this one feature they provide so well.... I had finally quit using atties with just a drip tip because of getting 'juiced' all the time. This is now a thing of the past and I can load an atty with 8 drops every single time! Heavenly.
