I've read that using phone adapters or whatnot can be dangerous for the battery. I'm no electrician and I'm definitely no whiz when it comes to voltage outputs etc...but I'm pretty sure this is safe to use, yes?

Output 5v on the adapter and the charger is 5v, so...should be OK....

Yes it's fine. That's a standard 5v wall adapter. And your charger hss the correct rating.

Figured as much...but those videos of things exploding had me a bit nervous.

So long as your wall wort is putting out 5v you are fine your battery charger will regulate that output down to the 4.2 v and 420mA. I have a wall wort that has a 15V output (ASUS Tablet) that would burn out the battery charger you show in your pic.
