  1. Yeah or nay? All this talk about Japanese cotton. All the ones I see are just machined pads.

    http://www.thebodyshop.com/skincare/accessories/organic-cotton-pads-x-50.aspx

For the trouble of using cotton-balls, organic or otherwise (inconsistencies, flaws, lumps, etc.), I switched to Japanese Cotton pads, and couldn't be happier... 5cm by 6cm pads, 200ct bag, from Amazon for ~ $7. I pull one out, cut a strip, feed it through the wick, trim, assemble, vape... couldn't be simpler, and the flavor and wicking is fantastic.

  2. Tam brings up a good alternative with the BOGE atomizers... I have a few of those as well, which I use for sampling flavors, or when I want a quick-hit and don't want (or can't get to) a full tank/battery rig. I also use their caromizers (same thing, but with a Rayon material to hold juice) when I'm cutting grass or working on the vehicle... so I don't run the risk of damaging one of my more expensive rigs, and don't have to deal with the weight of a tank and bigger battery :)

  3. What you're referring to is an RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer)? If so, yes, that is good for changing flavors quickly... just re-wick, and change flavors.

However, if you are not mechanically inclined to build your own coils, do not have a firm grip on Ohm's law, and do not wish to expend at least $100 on necessary components/supplies... RDA's may not be the best option.

If all you're after is being able to change flavors at the drop of a hat... I would suggest multiple tanks (of the same type or style). Personally, I have RDA and RTA, Mechanical MODs, VV/VW batteries, and standard eGo's... but I also rotate through more than 16 tanks... some with the same flavor in them so I can keep vaping without refilling... some with different flavors so I can change when I feel the need for something different... some with different Nicotine strengths, for that morning "lift", and lower-levels so I can sleep more soundly.

Multiple tanks may seem extreme, but I doubt many on this forum have fewer than 6 of any given tank, just for the purpose of different flavors (or convenience). Plus, half-a-dozen tanks will cost you FAR less than getting into RDA's.

Don't think I'm trying to stop you from RDA's... no, the flavor and vapor production can be amazing from them... but safety is first, and I always want to point out the cost-factor too. You can get a decent RDA, Mech Mod, high-quality batteries, wire, Ohm-meter, cotton, etc. for all under $100 if you're careful. But if all you want is convenience to change flavors... additional tanks may be the better route?

  4. The only down-sides to cranking up the voltage is having to charge the battery more often, and possibly burning out the coil faster... but as long as your juice can handle the added power (without tasting burnt), enjoy!

  5. I've never seen anything but the plastic tanks (with plastic or SS bodies), so I was just basing my info on that... I wouldn't mind trying one of those all-Aluminum tanks :)

If you've bought coils that cheap, you got a deal! Nova coils I've seen run ~ $1 each, and my Kanger coils (by the case) put my single coils at $0.55 each and dual-coils at $0.75 each :) (which is WAY under Aspire coil prices)....

Good luck on your search... I hope someone else can chime in with what you're after.

  6. Welcome to VT...

And I'm glad you got the answer (and understood it). I know people with degrees in electronics that can't grasp the concept of EITHER / OR... you can't set BOTH Voltage AND Wattage... you only set one of them, and the circuitry adjusts the other parameter to provide the setting you selected, based on the resistance of the coil in your tank.

Using Wattage mode (P), is how most of us use the MVP... that way you can set 8.5W and get 8.5W, regardless of the tank's coil resistance.

  7. To my knowledge, the Vivi Nova is only available with plastic tanks... because of the way it is designed. Light-weight, plastic tanks like the Vivi Nova (IMO) are "disposable".... they are not designed to last forever, or even for years, although if you are very careful, you could have one last for a very long time.

If you want a good Pyrex tank, I would suggest the Aspire Nautilus or Nautilus-mini... Davide or Davide-mini... or any of the Kanger Pro-Tank or Aero-Tank designs. All of the tanks I mentioned are bottom-coil designs (either single or dual). Yes, they are heavier, yes, they are stainless-steel and Pyrex, but they are also very durable, don't care what juice you put in them (with exception of max-VG juices due to wicking issues with the coils), and can handle a few bumps and bangs. Replacement parts are also readily available for any of the ones I mentioned, online or at most any B&M.

For me... for the money you pay for a Vivi Nova and a 10-pack of coils... you could purchase a nice Kanger ProTank2 or AeroTank (or the mini versions of either), and the same 10-pack of coils, and spend the same money (or less, in most cases).

  8. Most of my Juices taste great @ 7.5-10W, depending on the tank/coil combo. Most of my tanks are using 1.5 Ohm coils (Kanger BCC or BDC), but I have a few 1.6 (Nautilus) or 1.8 (Kanger BCC). As Comp said, the juice will determine how high you can go... and most of Comp's juices do taste better at higher Wattages, but again, based on the tank/coil combo you're using.

I don't know how much those IPOW2's are running... but the V|T Store has the ELeaf iStick (VV/VW box-style) for $32 right now, and everyone is raving about them... although I've yet to pick one up, so I can't give a personal opinion :) Also, since Wattage is a function of Voltage and Resistance, using a VV eGo-style (like the Vision Spinner) will give you the same "adjustment" you're looking for... for about $22?

  9. *waves hand*

    Chronic insomniac here. *sighs*

That said, when I do go to sleep I'm much like a light switch: either I'm awake or I'm asleep, there's no in between and it happens in an instant. I like sleep soooo much. :)

Me too... I rarely get more than 4-5 hours of sleep a night, and I'm capable of snagging a 20-min cat-nap during the day, which means I WON'T get an hour or two of my usual sleep at night, because of it. I have to be the last one to bed every night... and I'm usually the first up in the mornings. Although, I do love my Sunday mornings... everyone knows to let me sleep if I'm still in bed... that's usually when I "catch-up" and get about 7-hours :)

I have noticed, though... switching to 6mg juices about an hour or so before I "try" to go to bed HAS helped me get to sleep easier and faster, so I'm probably getting an hour more sleep than usual now...

  10. I looked for the specs on your battery too (based on the picture), and it is either a "house-brand" or a new-to-the-street knock-off / clone battery. There is no telling if it is a respectable battery or junk, which has been passed off as top-of-the-line by the retailer.

Take Comp's advice... buy a couple of Vision Spinner's or Spinner-2's, or any of the batteries you'll find on the V|T store... they are guaranteed authentic, and probably the best prices you'll find anywhere on the web.

As for tanks, the KPT3-minis are excellent (I have 6 of them in regular use), but I would suggest using 1.5 or 1.8 Ohm coils in them, and (if you're using a Spinner or Twist battery) set the Voltage between 3.3 and 3.8V for starters. Rarely do I find a juice that requires me to go higher than 3.8V to get a good, flavorful vape, if I'm using one of those resistance coils.

Oh, and don't feel bad about your first purchase... my first "kit" ran me $75 from the local B&M, two medium-size batteries, two tanks, charger, and a case... but nearly 9-months later and those batteries are still going strong! Hopefully they'll refund your money (or at least part of it), rather than store credit, but if they give you store credit, at least you can use that towards juice or something "name-brand"?

  11. my SO asked (very enthusiastically) if he could go to the store and get me a pack. Boy, talk about a foul mood... LOL.

When I quit cold-turkey all those years ago, my wife told me "I hate your nasty habit, but if you don't start smoking again, one of us is moving out!" The next day she came home with a carton of my favorites :( Apparently I was a grizzly-bear to EVERYONE during that time...

  12. I was the same getting them for my Dad. I would change the number on the note and get one for myself too. I was a bad boy.

Oh, I do remember those days... dad would give me $1, and I'd ride my bike to the little corner store with one gas-pump and buy him two packs of Viceroy, and there was always just enough left over for a candy-bar or RC-cola. I guess he knew the bribery of a candy-bar or cola was enough to get me to go to the store for him (because mom never let us have candy/cola except on rare or special occasions).

I never started smoking that early (was actually 17 when I started buying them for me), but back then, there was nothing to stop a 7-yr old from buying a pack and lighting-up... Let's face it, up until the late 70's, practically 2/3 or more of the population smoked! And, it wasn't uncommon when I was in HS for a teacher to bum a smoke off students between classes or before/after school....

  13. These have been around a while, as an upgraded version of the original iClear30 design. I've tried the original iClear30 and iClear16 (with the hanging wicks), and was not impressed with them, so I didn't bother trying the upgraded version. Glad to hear you approve of them, and I'm glad Innokin has a better tank available... I too wish they were Pyrex... I think that is my #1 reason for not giving them another try?

  14. "Plumes of smoke" are actually vapor, and they're produced by the VG content of e-liquids. Flavor is carried by the PG. A good mix of flavor/vapor is found in 60/40, 50/50, or 40/60 juices. 30/70 juices are about as far as I'll go and still maintain a decent flavor (30% PG), but prefer 60/40 and 50/50, as I'm not a cloud-chaser.

If you want huge vapor clouds, you sacrifice flavor... and most factory coils (plug-and-play) do not handle the thickness of high VG content juices because they clog the wicks and gunk-up a coil. Not that you can't get good function from a tank like the Nautilus or Atlantis, but be prepared to drop in a fresh coil every couple of tanks.

You initially said you were after better flavor... so I'll chime in with Aspire Nautilus, Kanger AeroTank, or Joyetech Delta tanks for good flavor producers. If you go the rebuildable route, you'll get excellent flavor from an RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) such as a Kayfun, Russian 91%, Orchid, etc. For true cloud-chasing (using 100% VG, producing far less flavor), you'd need to bump up to RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer), which will involve high-Amp, high-drain batteries, mechanical mods (or very pricey regulated mods), and the choice of atomizers are endless... But, the RDA or RTA solution means building your own coils, and as Joe said, does require a learning curve.
