The War In Iraq Is Done!

SO Obama has FINALLY come through.

I support our troops, I support removing Saddam from power in Iraq, I feel that this war was needed, **** genocide. What Saddam did while he was in power is un human and completely unforgivable. At the same time this war was started for ******** reasons. To believe the Bush administration actually gave 2 ***** about the people of Iraq is, well, moronic to put it lightly. But at the same time I am VERY glad this war was started(even if for the wrong reason)just to remove Saddam Hussein from power and atleast bring a start to some sort of freedom for the people of Iraq.

Anyone who says well **** those towel headed bastards(I.E. 50% of this country)is idiotic. Come on, that's like saying everyone who is black is a gangbanger, or saying every japanese person is going to suicide bomb us, or saying every mexican is lazy. It's racist and uncalled for and I believe the Bush administration kind of pushed this through to people.

YES Iraq needed to be liberated. There were acts of GENOCIDE being committed. I don't care about the literal definition of Genocide, that is what I consider it. Saddam had to be removed.

I actually hate everyone who says that our troops had to be pulled a year, 2 years, 3 years after this war started. While I hate to see anybody die over war, our troops went out and died not defending our country(there was NO THREAT to our country from Iraq), but went out and saved tens if not hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives. I have nothing but respect for these people, I just wish they could have died for that reason alone and not the ******** lies our president pushed onto us and so blindly started this war for.

I believe in equality for all people and I am SOOOOOOO happy that this war has finally come to an end and we are finally doing what this war SHOULD have been started for. To actually help a country get back on it's feet from years and years and years of oppression. I'm on the verge of tears from reading this.

While I do not agree with everything Obama has done during his presidency I feel that what he is doing with Iraq right now is what needs to be done.

In closing if anyone here has served or knows anyone who has served(I myself know quite a few, not myself though) then hats off to you. You truly did something worth fighting for, even though I believe it wasn't started for the right reasons and our entire country was lied to on the reasons, you still did a truly truly great thing.

:unworthy::thumbup:

btw I could not find a clapping emoticon so I just used those two. Any thoughts or opinions in this thread are MY opinions. If you disagree or agree with them I did not mean to offend anybody by posting this. As I said I support anyone who is willing to risk there lives or even die in this case to help another person in need. My politcal views are solely my own and I do not hate or judge anyone who disagrees with them.

Obama's job rating is going in the toilet. This is just another showboat act to try and say "hey look...I did something" No it's not over and letting our guard down now would be a big mistake.

Obama is the last person I would give credit for this to. Combat operations have ended because the surge, which Obama opposed, worked. Just my $0.02.

Agreed. Yea i am sorry, but please do not give credit to Obama. What has he done worth a damn since he has been in office. He was supposed to help small business(nope), supposed to help middle class(nope).

The pull out of the troops was set before Obama was in office. Jeff is right, it is only the combat troops and we will still have a presence in Iraq for years. My brother just got back in the spring and he basically said the same thing. I can not give credit to Obama and his administration about the troops leaving Iraq.

Afghanistan is far worse than Iraq ever was, it just isnt being reported mainstream. Independent (read: non commercial) new sources tell a far different story; NPR, PBS, BBC, HDNET news magazines, for examples.

I never supported going into Iraq in the first place and still consider it a very large mistake for the U.S., most countries view this as an illegal occupation and I agree with that perspective. We didnt have the proper support to invade a country, regardless of our justifications, we were not being attacked or really affected by IRAQ therefore we should have had greater world support, IMHO. It wasnt right for Russia to invade Georgia and it wasnt right for us to invade Iraq. Both for the same reasons, they were not sanctioned by the order of nations. What's the point in even having these organizations, like the U.N. when they only seem to be leveraged at convenience?

Besides the use of flammable labels, I don't see the correlation between "*** the towelheads*" and then listing other racial terms, what was the point of this sentence? You really lost me here:

"Anyone who says well **** those towel headed bastards(I.E. 50% of this country)is idiotic. Come on, that's like saying everyone who is black is a gangbanger, or saying every japanese person is going to suicide bomb us, or saying every mexican is lazy. Other than quoting the tools of the ignorant, I am not sure what you are trying to say here.

"I actually hate everyone who says that our troops had to be pulled a year, 2 years, 3 years after this war started" You HATE these people? HATE??? going out on a limb here but Do you listen to Toby Keith, per chance? Didn't you say in your last line that you don't hate or judge anyone who doesn't agree?

While I certainly agree that oppressed countries should be given relief, I do not believe that this war was started for the liberation of Iraq. The WMD did NOT exist, which was the official cause for war. The torture may have stopped (for now) but Iraq is in no way or shape better off as a country now, their infrastructure is still messed up. We trashed the party to remove the one goon and wound up trashing the entire house, I think this war hurt Iraq as much or more than it helped them.

From 2006:

Recent debate about whether Iraq is better off, it really shows both sides of the debate well. I think it is a must listen for those who are interested.

Sometimes an impartial 3rd party observer can provide the most balanced insight, this is from a Tanzanian columnist.

Do not confuse disenchantment with leadership for disenchantment with our troops. That is NOT what I am saying at all.

I believe this county deserves better leadership and has not had quality leadership for quite some time. (it's far deeper than just the head of the table)

I also know I am in the minority in disagreeing with the invasion of Iraq, at that particular time without world support.

My comments are meant to be respectful, I do love my country but today is a bittersweet day. I am happy for those who are no longer in danger but for me, it is another reminder or the "quick war" that lasted 7 years, cost 62,000 lives, injured even more. Was originally estimated to cost 10 Billion and is now closer to 1 TRILLION. At least the Iraqi soccer players testicles were safe from electrocution when they didn't qualify for the world cup.....

Most costly assassination of a world leader, ever.

Wow Burn - your post looks rough after seeing him say nevermind!! But I do agree.

As far as O goes, he is young and I think believed everything he promised (to a point) and people lied to him on the campaign trail that he would get to do those things (whether you agreed with it or not). But then low and behold, all the Goldman Sachs folks are in his camp, he's being handled by the best and I think is starting to realize he's a one term pres. On the other hand, I believe the same thing could be said of GW, but he was easily handled because he is dumb as a post.

Before my father died he used to apologize for letting the country get to the point it was. Failed lawyers in government, most of them sleazy at best, crooks as well. He used to say I don't know what you're going to do about it. Unfortunately I believe they are going to take one more run at the fleecing of America, and then all will go to hell. I hope not.

JMHO

I didnt see his nevermind post until I posted. Put alot of thought into it so I left it. Did feel kinda bad though.

I was careful not to single out presidents and I think your father was on to the same thought. The issue is far deeper than the top position. Lobbies rule the true lawmaking body and they are influenced more by campaign donations than the will of the people.

We knew all along that senators and reps were puppets but the puppet masters we supposed to be the will of the people, not the will of the business. You can see it in a small scale with the electronic cigarette posturing but it was really exposed on a large scale when Haliburton had their massive lobby dollars pay off with the largest and best defense contracts to support the war.

This can NOT be what the founding fathers had in mind. It just can't. We have perverted a logical system and we are now forcing this system on the countries we invade. We don't even make good products anymore. At least we are the world leaders in porn, drug consumption and obesity.
