ddavelarsen Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Well, get ready folks, the clock is ticking and this contest is nearing its end. I wish you all luck, but only one of you is gonna win. And guess what? I know who's closest right now... BWAAAAHAAAAHaaaahaaaaaaaaa.....!!!
FTJoe Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 And guess what? I know who's closest right now... I'd like to thank the academy, my family without who's support...oh, not over yet?
cpfeil Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 This jar contains all my end-of-the-day pocket change for about the last five and a half years. You wouldn't believe how tempting it's been to get into it at times but I'm tough! and have managed to keep it intact until it filled up to the top. Aside from the bills and a few pennies I found, it's all silver coins. When I cash it in, we're planning to build in some bookcases with it, something we've been talking about for years. So I thought I'd see how good we are at guessing how much is in there. Here's the contest. Closest guess to the total amount of money in the jar wins the bit of liquid shown below. In the event you think you might make multiple guesses, your first guess is the one that counts, so make it a good one. I'll get a receipt from the bank and post it below at the end of the contest. Note that there were 10 $1 bills and 15 pennies in the jar that I've taken out, so the final amount will be the bank's receipt plus $10.15. Here's a list of the juice: V4L Menthol Nobacco -- 5 ml, 24mg Puresmoker Marlboro -- 30 ml, 36mg My Freedom Smokes RY4 -- 6 ml, 48mg My Freedom Smokes Orange Cream -- 10 ml, 48mg Vapor Talk Midnight -- 10 ml, 24mg The contest ends at 7:00 am next Sunday, May 16th. Jeff will vet my decision on who won. Thanks for looking, good luck and have fun! Here's the jar o' change. 4 liters is just over a gallon; this bad boy weighs something like 60 lbs! And here's the juice looking for a new home. They're either unopened or just a few drops out of each one. I am guessing $537.44 :crossing fingers:
ddavelarsen Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 Well, this contest is closed. Sorry I'm a bit late getting to it but we worked our keesters off in the yard yesterday, then partied off the pain until quite early in the morning. I just woke up. Whew. This has been fun. We've already spent the money, getting ready to build some bookcases. Well, really, to sand and prime and paint a bunch of lumber; then maybe some day I'll get round to building. But I will. Then I'll get to unpack a bunch of books that have been in boxes for almost 20 years! Maybe longer for some of them. And no, I still remember pretty much every book that's in there. Just never been able to get them up. I'm pretty psyched. Oh - you're wondering who won? Well FTJoe - it wasn't you. You missed it a mile brother. starrmtn001 and hawk - you came pretty close - but no cigar. I guess someone had to come 'close.' The rest of you - you gave it the fine old college try, and I thank you all for jumping in with your guesses. For what it's worth, I was farther off than many of you and I thought I had enough experience with masses of change to nail it. But - nope. Most of you guys did far better than I did. Figures, doesn't it? Okay, Okay! The winner is ... Beckster, post number 33, with $724.75. That's one fine guess! The full amount of the jar's contents was $717.92, so Beckster only missed it by $6.83. The jar's contents were $10.15 in money I took out before my trip to the bank, and $707.77 in silver-colored coins. Check my math, but that's $717.92. I'll attach an image of the receipt below. Jeff will take a look at my decision to make sure I'm not confused or illiterate or really cannot add like they always say, and to make sure Brian or nana don't try to jump me for rigging the contest. Congratulations Beckster! PM me with your preferred mailing address and I'll get your new little juice collection in the mail tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for adding a little spice to the week.
ddavelarsen Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 Wow, I should've resized that image - y'all are gonna go nuts trying to get it on your monitor!
FTJoe Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 (edited) Well FTJoe - it wasn't you. You missed it a mile brother. whaaaaaat!!!! Can you count it again please, we'll wait...
