sure are, a good agilent adjustable power supply that can provide the current we need can be around $1000 new. Fortunately, as an electronics technician at a DoD contractor, I have access to all sorts of mod-friendly toys. if you do a search, you can turn an ATX power supply into a decent lab-style supply with a little work. TI makes a good regulator chip (http://focus.ti.com/...k/ptr08100w.pdf) that I used in my box mod, available for free if you request an engineering sample. I'd probably use this in my next passthrough as well, as it will handle Vin of up to 14 volts, making it a snap to power from a cigarette lighter.

if I were to actually do this right, i'd use a switching regulator with a supply of 7 volts or so. but the only thing I actually paid for was the 4xAA box, everything else, I was able to find at work.

i use 100% VG in Boge carto's, and have never had a problem. Cannot say the same about SLB carto's though, I've tried several variations of the SLB's and none of them wick properly.

Was bored at work the other day, and am getting tired of charging batteries (even though I only go through 1 set a day) so I decided to make a passthrough. Tech specs: LM317HVT regulator, Vout set at 5.5 volts Vin either 16v from a modified laptop power supply, OR 12 volts from a modified cell phone car charger TO-220 heat sink on regulator (reaches 60 celsius in a hurry without it) 40mm fan on side of box to further cool regulator BNC cable plug for easy connections The regulator is rated at 1.5 amps when Vin-Vout is greater than 15 volts, and 2 amps when less than 15 volts. Including the fan, the rig draws 1.9 amps. Still creates a fair amount of heat, but the regulator averages around 30 celsius. I could have made something more efficient, but I used parts that were available at work. AND because someone on another forum said that the regulator couldn't successfully be used, so I HAD to prove them wrong. This setup puts out TONS more vapor than my 5.5 volt box mod, most likely because the 14500 batteries in the mod cannot discharge at a high enough rate. The only thing I dislike about it is the noise of the fan, sounds similar to a muted hair dryer. Functionally though, it performs great!

I'm going to throw my vote to vaporbomb. Not only because their flavors are awesome, but they also produce massive clouds of vapor. In addition, you can pick your ratio of pg/vg, in 10% increments, from 100% PG to 100% VG, and everything in between. They've also been known to throw in free samples with orders, it's happened with both orders I have placed with them so far.

what's interesting is that a few weeks prior, 2 day shifters showed up with volcano's (rebadged blu's) and generated absolutely NO interest. Long live the 510!

*sigh*.......sounds like even MORE money that I'll be shelling out.....you know, part of the reason I started vaping was to save money.....I'm beginning to think that it's doing the opposite. First the 510 kit Then the extra battery then the PCC then the passthrough Then parts for my DIY 5v mod throw in 35-40 sample size bottles of juice and NOW DIY juice.... at least I'm not killing myself anymore, right?

would you need additional hardware? don't most motherboards monitor, or have the ability to monitor, current draw on a USB port? Some include overcurrent protection, so I would assume there has to be some kind of monitoring. the passthrough will draw minimal current when not in use, as soon as you depress the button, current will spike, and that spike could be used to trip the counter.

i give mine an isopropyl alcohol soak, followed by a soaking in water to remove the alcohol. Then, blow it out with pressurized air from the ionized air guns at work, followed by a bake out at 100C for 30 mins or so. alcohol/water is always brown when finished, so SOMETHING is happening during the soak. Might have to give the ultrasonic cleaner a try as well, bought one for my wife so we didn't have to go to the jewelers every month for a cleaning.

i also enjoy flavors that "explode" in your mouth. I'm sure DIY is the way to go to achieve it, correct?

good job! just completed one of these myself, although still waiting on batteries. FYI, 4 normal batteries will power it sufficiently, in a pinch. I bought a 4 AA box from radio shack and taped it to the bottom of the mod, and ran wires from the battery pack, where I soldered them (temporarily) to the battery terminals of the mod. Next step is to incorporate a mini-connector (female) of some type on the mod itself, so if the batteries ever die when I am out, I can run to a convenience store and pick up a pack of AA's to use. Redundancy is good.

i'm sure you could find some flexible hose that would fit over an atomizer, and a Y fitting to combine both attys into one mouthpiece. It would definitely be something worth checking out. might have to experiment with this idea myself on my next mod

as Christopher said, your USB port cannot handle the current draw of the atomizer. search the internet for a 5v, 2 amp USB wall adapter, and you will be good to go.

lol I really would like to know, as I thought 40 cartos at once was a little extreme.....guess it's pretty mild compared to others

I've been vaping for about 2 weeks now, but already have 35 different flavors of juice, mostly in sample sizes. I find myself mixing flavors a lot to try to create something unique. Tell me, do you find it worthwhile to DIY liquid?

damn, as an electrical engineering major, i feel inclined to purchase one of these. certain key words trigger parts of my brain that they probably shouldn't......pulse width modulation, GUI, and microprocessor are some of them..... time to start saving up

just wanted to share a bit of a success story. i started vaping and stopped smoking only 2 weeks ago. stopped smoking the day my 510 came in the mail. about a week ago, tried an analog and could not finish it, it tasted horrid. vaping is here to stay. anyway, within a day of bringing it to work, the place was abuzz over the ecig. i gave countless demonstrations, and could repeat the benefits in my sleep because of all the interest. within a week, 4 other employees have made the switch, and are all more than happy with it. currently, another 5 are getting ready to place an order for theirs, and yet another 7 to 10 are researching and are planning on switching in the near future. even nonsmokers and exsmokers are touting this as one of the greatest new(er) products out there. when i told them the FDA is against them, they were all horrified, and couldn't believe they could be against such an amazing, powerful product. ecigs are not very big around here at the moment, but popularity has spread around my workplace like wildfire, and i can only imagine that it is just a matter of time before it expands into the surrounding area as word gets out.
