  1. I don't have an eGo, but I'm reading through this topic and thinking that as simple as the idea is, the result could be truely epic and marketable. Kudos for inovative thinking.
  2. How are you testing the loaded voltages? The Joker-AV is a regulaed voltage that should only drop 0.1v from where it is set. Another thing that has me wondering is that ever 302 I have has measured around 3.2ohms.
  3. The 801/302 is an atomizer. I direct drip and rarely use a cartomizer. I find that 3 or 4 drops in a 302 gives about as many hits as an analog, and it doesn't leak.
  4. OK, you guys are really going to hate me for saying it over and over again, but topic after topic comes up where it needs saying. We all start off at 3.7v and fall in love with the 510 atty, because at 3.7v the 510 is hands down the best atty out there. Since the 510 performs so well at 3.7v, eveyone simply refuses to think that their beloved 510 could be part of the problem at higher votlages. But when you move to high volts the 510 just burns the crap out of your juice and leaks like a pig. Other attys like the 801/302 really don't perform at 3.7v, which further gets people stuck on the 501, but higher voltages is where the 801/302 shine (I prefer and recommend the 302 over the 801). I realize that what I say is my opinion, and opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one and they all smell. The fact that so many people are moving to higher voltages and making the same complaints of burnt taste and excess leaking would tend to prove my point. Raising the voltage is a brave new world. branch out and try a different atty.
  5. The Joye 302 is unique in the way that the airflow holes are larger and cut into the threads going up the sides of the fitting. I use exclusively Joye 302, because this makes them out perform any of the 801s or their knock-offs.
  6. Until you put the atty on the VP/PT, and then the voltage drops down to about 4.8v. I am no guessing or reading it anywhere, I measured in on the bench using a 3.3ohm power resistor to simulate the load of the atty. That's what I'm talking about, I use the 302 more than 90% of the time. For the few times I want to use a 510 carto, using an adapter to go in that direction makes more sense.
  7. I think Joe covered it here, but if you really want to use a cart I wouldn't wash the filler, I'd replace it with the pyramid tea bag mod.
  8. Some of the recent comments that I have made may lead people to believe that I am very anti-510, and although I will never buy another 510 atty, I still think that the 510 is an excellent starting point. My very first PV was a standard 501, and I thought it was great at the time. My second PV purchase was a VP-1 and a VP/PT, which both only came with an 801 fitting. As I read through many posts here at Vapor Talk, there was a common thing said by many people that made a lot of sense. Try many different things to see what works the best. I not only tried different flavors and nic levels, but different atomizers as well. I think that the 801 fitting makes a PV much more versatile, because it is easier to adapt from a larger fitting to smaller atty than it is to go the other way around. I also read somewhere that you can adapt from 510 to 801, but for some reason an adapter causes a 302 to short out (not direct knowledge, just something I read). With the switch from using cartridges to direct dripping, it became apparent that the 510s small physical size made it less than ideal for direct dripping. It holds less fluid and therefore floods easier, and leaks more frequently. Don't get me wrong, I think that the 510 is a solid performer and probably the single best choice for 3.7 volts because it runs hotter. In my honest opinion, it's that higher heat level that makes it leak so much more at higher voltages. That's what is so great about adjustable voltage, an 801 fitting, and a few adapters (experiment, experiment, experiment). I run my 302 atty at 5.3v which is hot enough to give me huge amounts of vapor, and still cool enough to keep my juices tasting great. I can also drip 3 or 4 drops into it without it leaking down the side of the unit. If I'm taking a long drive, I use an adapter with a cartomizer. As for being anti-510, simply not true. I know that I stated that I thought that it was wrong for a joker to have a 510 fitting, but if I had stuck to 3.7v, I’d still be using a 510 atty. It’s the switch to higher voltages, and advice from many of you to experiment with different things that ultimately led to me dropping the 510. What I have found about the 801/302 is that they don’t function as well at 3.7v, but at 5v and higher they shine. I have also made some observations about differences between 801 (both 2-hole and 4-hole) and the Joye 302. The 302 has better airflow than either the 2-hole or 4-hole 801, and either style of 801 tends to leak more than the 302. For anyone who has not tried one, the Joye 302 is truly a champion among atomizers at higher voltages.
  9. You absolutely made the right choice. I have both the Joker-AV and the Buzz, and the Buzz is my #2 unit, but don't ever ask me to part with it either. The Buzz is a fine piece of equipment, it's just not my favorite. The reason I would never part with it is that AV is the only way to go, and if anything ever happened to my Joker-AV the Buzz is the only other unit I have that would get me through that crisis. These are the reasons that make my Joker-AV #1 and the Buzz #2 (not necessarily in order): 1. The Joker-AV is a better looking device. 2. The Joker-AV has a lighter weight and thinner body, which makes it much more comfortable in my hand. 3. I like the switch on the Joker-AV better than the one on the Buzz. 4. The Joker-AV has a larger and more visible LED. I bought both units with an 801 fitting, because the 801 fitting makes it much more versatile.
  10. If you get the Joker with an 801 fitting and use a 302 atty, it won't leak and you won't need a drip tray.
  11. Cartos also have the benifit of making it easier to vape and drive, but unless I'm driving I really want my 302 atty. I find the exact oposite. The 510 it so small that more than 2 drops and it's leaking all over the place. The 510 also gets so much hotter that at 5v you can be fooled by the burnt taste into thinking you need to drip again, and trigger more leaking. With my 302 attys I find that 3 or 4 drops give me about as many hits as an analog cigarette, and at that rate of dripping I rarely (if at all) experience any leaking. Also the heat level keeps my juice tasting yummy.
  12. As I understand this, if the FDA is allowed to classify it as a drug, anyone who manufactures a juice would have to have to make submissions to the FDA. They would have to have their so-called drug products tested, many forms would need to be filed to determine methods of distribution (prescription or self-administered), so on and so forth. this would cost those manufacturers so much money that the e-cig would die an agonizing death. As a tobacco product, the regulation would be much more manageable and tolerable by all, and the e-cig could survive. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!!!!!!!
  13. Alot of the juices out there have a bit of a chemical aftertaste to me, so I really like the organic flavors from vaperite.com. I tend to go more for the coffee flavors, so I would climb any mountain for Vaperite Organic Kona Cream. Remember when you smoked analogs, and you thought nothing went together better than a cigarette and a cup of coffee. Since I started vaping, I really don't want that smokey taste of an analog cigarette anywhere near me, but there's still something appealing about the concept of a cigarette and a cup of coffee. You can have thick plumes of vapor and the taste of the best cup of coffee you ever had, all rolled into one with Vaperite Organic Kona Cream.
  14. That's funny, my dentist is happy I quit smoking and started vaping, and tells me to keep doing good things for myself.
  15. Irresponsible journalism at best. Research one side of the story and post it as gospel truth.
  16. I'm going out to Walgreen's for a bulb right now, I've got to try that.
  17. There are some things that are a trade off, and that's just the way it is. A small size e-cig that looks like a cigarette is going to be 3.7volts, and you need to take a long slow even draw to produce a good amount of vapor. If you want to get a good amount of vapor from a shorter drag, then you need a higher voltage like 5volts, but then it no longer looks like a cigarette. There is an advantage to an e-cig that doesn't look like a cigarette. They are more widely accepted by not non-smokers in public places. I vape on a variable voltage device that surely does not look like a cigarette. It gives me exactly what I want when I want it, and rarely does anybody have a problem with it. Whenever somebody says "hey you can't smoke here", I explain what I am really doing and they are immediately OK with it. Everyone wants an e-cig that looks like a cigarette in the beginning, but what what you thought would be awkward suddenly becomes OK.
  18. Don't try to compare it to other devices that don't work properly either, you have to do the math. A 3.7v device (such as an eGo) divided by a 510 atty (2.2ohms) will draw 1.68amps, so if the device can't deliver that much current then the voltage will sag down. A 5v device (such as a passthrough) divided by a 510 atty (2.2ohms) will draw 2.27amps, so a 1amp adapter will sag way down and what you are vaping on is more like 4v.
  19. Go to the front page of the forum, and locate the quick menu at the right. Click on "VT Smoke Free Banner", and fill in the information. When your banner is created copy the URL and paste it to your forum signature.
  20. Just to make sure no one is confused, Brian is talking about the battery voltage not the output voltage of the unit. You can set the output voltage to far lower and that will not effect the LED color. As long as the Battery voltage stays above 5.2v the LED will be green, and will change to blue when the battery voltage drains to below 5.2v Now some info on the atomizer you are using. The standard 510 atomizer is only 2.2ohms, and will load the batteries down more than some other choices. I use a 302 atty, and that is typically between 3.0 and 3.3ohms, but if you have a 510 fitting on your unit that won't be an option. You might get away with using an adapter on an 801 atty, and that would have similar resistance to the 302. I'm not sure, but I think a carto might be slightly higer resistance than a 510 atty. Just understand that lower resistances will put more drain on the batteries, so the higher resistance attys will vape longer before the LED goes blue. As Brian said before, going to 3.7v cr123 batteries might also be an option. I've used them in my Joker, and they seemd to function just fine with no difference in what the LED tells you. That should give you longer vape time on your 510, but I would also keep an eye on how warm the 3.7v batteries get.
  21. You need to connect it to a volt meter, so if you don't have a voltmeter I would suggest the one that vaprlife sells. http://www.vaprlife.com/jokerdvm.html It's a gould choice for the non-technical novice.
  22. Why is that a good thing? I'd rather ecigs be classified as a NON-TOBACCO PRODUCT. At my workplace the sign does not read "smoke free workplace" it reads "tobacco free workplace". That means that if I can get them to classify them as a non-tobacco product, I would be able to vape at my desk. Sofar the only thing I have gotten from the facilities manager is that she likes the idea of ecigs, but that the company can not "ENDORSE" them because of the crap with the FDA. Large companies are not going to publicly step up against a government agency, and as far as the Air Force goes, it's just one government agency agreeing with another government agency. It's to be expected.
  23. Yea, what about the multitude of commercial ads on TV for drugs that have been approved by the FDA. Yes, they list all the possible side effects (which are often worse than the ailment they are supposed to treat), and that's supposed to make it ok to mass advertise. Then on the very next commercial break there is an ad for a law firm that is conducting a class action against those same drug companies, because of reported illness and deaths. WTF
