  1. Exactly my situation. Though I don't have a desire to vape cinnamon. I do know that some flavors are just very strong, and you have to be careful when mixing your own, or even mixing premade juices, as they will overpower everything else in the mix. I think menthol and some mints are a good example.
  2. On reflection, "Horror" may not have been the best term to describe the look on her face. It was more like a combination of shock and disbelief. As when a child first learns the truth about Santa Claus. To be fair to this woman, I see her often when visiting the library with my little girl. She is a very kind, sweet, and gentle person. And although there may be some truth about older people having a harder time adapting to technology, I believe she probably knew what e-cigs were. She simply had never seen one, in actual use,up close and personal.
  3. Uh if your talking about the mechanical metal tube mod, I could have sworn I linked it already, but here tis again: http://www.mtnvapor.com/Mountain-Vaporizer-18650-Battery-Tube-MVBT.htm And thanks for taking the time to answer my noobish questions. I say if it makes ya feel safe and is not causing any harm, why not. While there is always the potential for disaster with these batteries (regardless of the chemistry), and long as you get educated about them and their proper usage and excerise due dilligence, the technology we have today is for the most part pretty safe. Thermal runaway (which is what I think they call it), is pretty much a rare event. Though it does happen. So be safe, but don't fret too much. The opinion of the vets over at ECF, where I posed the same question, was that my over-discharge of the battery likely did no real harm, and at most, may have shortened its useful life a bit.
  4. I think with the bigger mods, some people may mistake it for some type of medical device or specialized ashma inhaler. And as such many won't say anything out of respect. But, I am glad your getting out and are not shy about whipping it out.Kudos to you for taking the time to educate people and answer questions, this gives them a positive view of e-cig's and when they do vote on legislation which would curb our right to vape, they are more likely to oppose it. And people do ask questions regardless of the size of the device (for instance smokers ask me if It has helped me quit, and I am happy to tell them yes, absolutely). I can understand too, that there are times when you'd like to be discreet, when you really don't want a million people asking you questions or staring (and there are really still some who do not know that they are electronic and have to be told). Carrying around business cards for vaping/smoking cessation groups or vaping shops is a great idea on these occasions. I have only had person ever ask or tell me to stop vaping. And this was at the public library. It was an elderly librarian and I swear the look on her face was that of horror, for I truly do not think she knew what it was (and this was a 808d). As God is my witness, I tell you truly, she must have been thinking to herself "The gall of that man, to smoke inside a public facility! What Nerve! What arrogance!". So that's why I say we need to get out there and be seen and educate people. Thanks for all the replies, you guys are great!
  5. You must be in the minority, cuz everyone is constantly raving about Boba's bounty. As if twer the holy grail of e-liquids or somethin. Its always out of stock at AVE, and even the Boba's clones ya can't hardly get yer hands on. Do I want try Boba's? Absolutely. I am curious why people praise it so. But since I'll be mixing and making my own juice, unless someone gifts it to me, I have decided its not worth the hassle or the money. By DIY'ing I can make something I really enjoy. And that's what really counts, right?
  6. Thanks for your reply again Ulma. I spot on agree with you on many of the things regarding battery safety, most of the info I was already aware of, but it nice to meet someone with your expertise. Regarding the mod that I have, yeah it is quite roomy in there I guess. Although I must admit with the protected battery and the fuse, the bottom cap does not fully screw on. Not totally, but almost! Not really a concern. I'm using the battery type the vendor recommended, so what can I say? As far as I see it, the fuse being in there is not doing any harm and it is not affecting conductivity. Resettable fuses are great, mine is just a one time thing from what I understand. It's not that I don't trust the battery, it is just Ya Never know. Better to safe than to be sorry. And if the PCB circuit in the battery SHOULD fail, I have the fuse between my spring and battery so it may prevent damage to the mod., The battery did read 3.09v, but as I say, it charged back up fine and seems to be holding a charge. Am I gonna toss it, Nah! It was kinda expensive. Not yet anyway. But if I notice anything funny I will certainly do so. One thing I do want to know, is this: My protected battery also works in my Vamo which is from what I gather meant to use IMR high drain batteries. Now if I did use the protected battery with the Vamo, it would be probably best to keep the power on low. Do you know what would happen if I cranked the wattage or voltage up? Would it trip the PCB circuit in the batt? Would it render the battery useless? The Vamo has built in protection, so don't think anything catastrophic would happen,
  7. This is a great topic. I firmly beleive that adults of legal smoking age should have the right to vape anything they wish, particularly in the privacy of their homes. Especially things which are perfectly legal (like ascorbic acid). Has anyone experimented with herbal extracts, tinctures, or anything of the sort?
  8. I must give it up to ECBlend. Not only are the prices great (one of the cheapest juice vendors out there), but they let you customize your juice more than any other vendor I have seen. If you don't want to DIY, they are a good choice. I am currently vaping a recipe I made with their wizard: Quad Chocolate 1: 25% Bittersweet Chocolate 25% Chocolate 25% Chocolate Hazelnut 25% White Chocolate Xtra flavor Quad Chocolate 2: (currently vaping) 25% Bittersweet Chocolate 25% Chocolate (or milk chocolate, forgot what they call it) 25% Chocolate Hazelnut 25% Caramel Double extra flavor and 1x sweetener Its good, but not fully flavorful enough for me (I am a chocolate hound!).
  9. Join CASAA and fight the good fight! Respond to their calls for action and do everything you can.
  10. The worst two juices I have ever tasted came in cartos. One was from a vendor that I cannot remember. It was supposed to be orange but tasted llike burning tires. The other one was one of the cartomizers that came when my fiancee ordered one of those "free trial e-cig kits". It was supposed to be a regular tobacco flavor but was absolutely horrid! I cannot describe the taste. It is a shame, since some people actually do fall for those "free trial" scams (at least my fiancee used a prepaid card which was smart), in a good faith attempt to try to stop smoking and switch to e-cigs. Note: To try to be fair to the company or companies that do this, they are not really scams per se as far as legality goes, and if your fine with them charging your credit card every month, alot of money, for those "delicious" cartos that they will ship to you automatically then it might be right for some. Whatever works for ya I guess!
  11. Yes, it is funny and hypocritical. The same type of batteries as those used in e-cigs, can also be found in cell phones (which people routinely place against their skulls), laptops, tablets, etc. Moreover, cell Phone batteries have in fact exploded, but no one talks of banning cell phones!
  12. No worries. Didn't think you were attacking me or anything. I value all input.
  13. As an ex-menthol smoker (both Camel and Newport) I found the Dekang Portal Blend (Nport) Menthol to be fairly good, not too minty, just right. You might also try the Dekang Kool Menthol. Both are bestsellers over at EVC: http://www.evcigarettes.com/dekang-portal-blend-nport-menthol-e-liquid-e-juice/ http://www.evcigarettes.com/dekang-kool-menthol-e-liquid-e-juice/ Read the reviews for each, may give you some insight,
  14. Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid it's not quite sinking in for me either. But your right, I don't really need to use the safety fuse with a "good quality" protected battery. However I don't think anything is canceling anything else out, The battery, mod, and fuse are working fine together. The fuse just gives you an extra layer of security. Note: the protection circuits on these batteries have been known to fail and this is particularly true of the cheaper, lower quality cells ((this is confirmed and noted in the link I shared previously), So I feel better with the fuse in there. That being said, I'm no expert on batteries or circuits. So if I am misunderstanding you, just let me know. Thanks again for your help.
  15. Check out this post, which explains what's in the pic: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/225727-pictures-your-setup-1731.html#post10133626 No surge protectors were used. It's just a Kanger XL PCC (faux leather case, not visible in the pic) for use with 808d batteries.
  16. Thanks for the reply (and to all). I agree with much of what you are saying. Please, understand I am not talking about "pushing" or promoting it on the general non-smoking public. I just think that the general public needs to be exposed to ecigs more. They need to see and believe as we do, that it is very likely a healthier alternative to smoking..They need to see that we are not a subculture or a ":bunch of nuts", or at best "pathetic nicotine addicts" (which we probably are. Ha). Now, if an adult of legal age wants to vape, that is there choice. And if they asked me, whether they should smoke or vape I feel confident in telling them and would encourage them to vape rather than smoke. And being a non-smoker I would also promote or encourage them to use a 100% nicotine free juice. For those underage (and many people start smoking as teens). I would generally not recommend vaping, as we are not certain of the long term health effects. There's just not enough data. HOWEVER, if I learned that my teenage daughter was smoking without my knowledge (not uncommon) or if thought she might want to start smoking, I'd rather her come to me and get educated about vaping and I would prefer her to vape a zero nic juice than to see her sneek and smoke regular cigs with her friends without my knowledge. Nicotine should certainly be kept from minors.
  17. Thanks for the reply Ulma. I had gathered from what I have read that you can use either IMR (so called safe chemistry batteries) or protected Cells in a 3.7v mechanical metal tube mod. I personally feel better using a high quality protected cell (and Orbtronic batteries seem to be rebranded panasonic cells of high quality). Check out this battery test link for more info: http://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Common18650Summary%20UK.html. Now I also have a Vamo v2, which is a regulated device that already includes safety features, so it seems IMR high drain batteries are the ones recommened by vapers for these types of devices (though my protected battery also works in it, but I don't know about cranking up the power with it). I have some 2200 mAh 18650 Panasonic Hybrid IMR batteries that I use with it and some effest when in shorty mode. Here's a link to the mod I purchased: http://www.mtnvapor.com/Mountain-Vaporizer-18650-Battery-Tube-MVBT.htm It is important to note that on the site, the vendor warns about the use of Unprotected batteries in this particular mod. Though they do not say anything about IMR batteries. Overall, the mod is very sturdy and very simple with three vent holes at the bottom (though slots or holes along the shaft might be a better safety feature). With the combination of a high quality protected battery and the added safety of a vapesafe fuse (which could be used in anything reall), I don't think I am in any trouble. I don't think there is anything wrong with the battery as voltage is stable and is holding a charge. Yes, I heard AW was a good brand, but also heard Panasonic was not too shabby either. I have stayed clear of the trustfire and ultrafire batteries.
  18. While, I beleive it is generally polite to ask permission before vaping in public or private establishments, and especially in confined spaces, I think the public needs to be exposed to e-cigs more. We need to get out there and use our devices where people can see it and we can explain and answer questions. So many people are simply not used to seeing anyone using an electronic cigarette. I am constantly getting stares and questions when I pull out my PV and start puffing some place. They look at me like I'm from another planet.. I can understand why some may think it can have negative effects on the impression the general public has of e-cigs (and lead to bans and such) when you just whip it out and vape, but I think it also has positive effects. The general public needs to see these devices in use on a regular basis so that they can become educated and accustomed to them, and understand that it is not smoking.
  19. So I have a metal tube mod which I like and it accepts an 18650 (or possibly two 18350's stacked, though I am not gonna try it!). Of course with a purely mechanical mod, the only way you can tell if your over discharging a batt is by vapor output I guess. I have good quality Orbtronic 2900 mAh protected batteries and also use a vapesafe fuse in the mod. 2900 mAh batts last nice and long. But I didn't notice a reduction in vapor when my battery got low, instead the vapor production just ceased. I don't think either the vapesafe fuse or the protection circuit in the battery were tripped. Taking it out and testing it with a multimeter gave a reading of 3.09 volts. I charged it back up again and all is well. My question is should I be concerned about possibly shortening the life of the batt? Should I throw out my tube mod?
  20. I wonder about those sorts of liquids myself. I hear both TFA's Ripe Banana and the popular Raditor Pluid are also capable of eating through or reacting to certain plastics. Small diluted amounts might be fine in plastic, but I tend to try to stay away from these types of juice. And I prefer glass to plastic. It may impart a cleaner taste but that is probably subjective.
  21. Thanks for all the welcomes. You sure are a welcoming bunch!
  22. Been vaping for a short time. I'm an ECF/Casaa member living in Greensboro, North Carolina. Wish to say hi to all here.
