  1. Hi Killslick, first off, welcome to Vaportalk. I also am from Las Vegas and although there are several brick and mortar smoke shops that carry a variety of e-cigs here in town, I would recommend that you investigate some of the more popular PVs that people seem to use most and have the best luck with. For example, the Joye 510, I've not seen that one in a store here in town anyplace, just the cheap-o ones. Lots of people use the Joye 510 as their first starter kit. It's reliable and affordable and there is no shortage of parts for it in the event some part of your e-cig breaks. You could go get a cheapo one, but you may not have great luck with it, or getting parts to fix it in case of an outage. (atomizers, batteries, etc.) The Joye 510 is sold here at the Vaportalk store: http://www.vaportalkstore.com/products/Joye-510-Black.html and also available through LOTS of other online suppliers, Check out the supporting suppliers here on the forum, and check out the certified vendor list also. Lastly, sit back for a while and read what people have to say here on the forums about picking their starter kit, we've all been exactly where you are and picking the right first e-cig can make a big difference in keeping off the analogs in the long run. There are lots of knowledgeable people here on the forums or in the chat that can help you and answer any questions you might have before choosing the one you like/need most. Great to have you with us and best of luck to you in your quest for the vapor!
  2. Ran across this news item, it does NOT say what the purpose of these particular batteries were, but a lesson nonetheless. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_FEDEX_PACKAGE_EXPLOSION?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
  3. My wife used to call me 'Smokey Smokerton' due to the fact that I ALWAYS had a cig in my mouth, my hand, or burning away in an ashtray like 'tobacco incense' as she used to call it. So when I decided to at least TRY to switch from analog to e-cigs, she was all for it. We have a 12 year difference in age between us, and I really think that e-cigs are helping me narrow that gap and live longer as a result. She and I both have smoked for years, and she's seen the benefits that e-cigs have had on our life and household. She isn't smoking now, as we have a baby due in June, but when she is able to go back. she's going e-cig all the way. Not to mention the fact that there are no more burn holes in her couch. oops. sorry hun.
  4. Good news indeed lordmage, thanks for that. I REALLY hate missing bandwagons
  5. Maybe it's just me, but I saved a link to Carlos' juicebox mod about a month ago, but all that's there now is just a blank page. Does anyone know if Juiceboxes are still being made, or has Carlos decided that enough is enough?
  6. Like others have said, I'd go underground if need be, but I'm so close to being totally nic free, I think I could actually stop altogether. My problem with just stopping is that I LOVE vaping, just like I used to love smoking, it's an enjoyable and relaxing recreation to me and adds a nice finish to a meal or in the morning with a nice cup of hot coffee. Bottom line for me, Black market for as long as I still enjoy vaping but NO return to analogs. (this reminds me, I need to stock WAY up on attys...)
  7. Hi Pam, Since you haven't bought your passthrough yet, might I suggest the VP/PT sold here at the VaporTalk Store? It not only can be used through your usb port on your pc, but also comes with an AC adapter as well. I use my wall plug exclusively, as it gives the full 5v that makes for great throat hits and tons of vapor. You can find it here: http://www.vaportalkstore.com/products/VP-Ecig-USB-Passthrough.html To quote the text in the store, "Tired of your PT not working on your computer? Don't worry we've got you covered! Our passthrough comes with a special wall adapter which will allow you to use external power. No need to worry about using your batteries, save those for on the go." Sounds like exactly what you're looking for. You're also going to get great customer service from Chris and the VaporTalk store. The VP/PT is a bit higher in price than the imports, but it's an EXTREMELY well built product and will give you LOTS of vaping pleasure. Hope this helps, keep on vaping!
  8. Good Question! ...and if a tin whistle is made of tin, what do they make foghorns out of?
  9. I couldn't agree with you more Mark, just because it's "child-proof" doesn't mean let them play with it. I keep mine out of reach at all times, either way up high, or on my person. Better safe than sorry.
  10. Just a quick thanks out to Chris at The VaporTalk store. I've bought juice from several other suppliers, but I'd like to take a moment to say thanks to Chris for being a responsible supplier who sells the e-juices in CHILDPROOF bottles! With a curious 10 year old boy at home, and a new baby due in June '10, I feel much safer knowing my juices come in bottles that the little ones can't get into. Wow, becoming a parent makes a guy do strange stuff...like being RESPONSIBLE! Thanks Chris for making that a bit easier to pull off!
  11. My 2 cents: The VT Tobacco tastes like when you sniff an unlit fresh cigarette out of the pack. Same smell, same taste. I haven't tried Johnson Creek juices yet, but from a former heavy smoker, you can't beat VT Tobacco for a good tobacco-y flavor.
  12. What a difference a day makes! Looks like they are back in stock and ready for sale, just ordered mine! http://stealthvapor.webs.com/
  13. I've run into the same problem, and gave changing out the filter in my AC/Furnace unit a try. It's seemed to really cut down on the stale smoke odor right away. Other than that, just washing all the clothes hanging in closets that you may have not worn in a while, jackets etc also seemed to cut down some. It's awesome when your sense of smell starts to come back, just one of many signs you'll get to let you know you're on the right track with vaping.
  14. I completely agree after this morning's scare, I've only been vaping 12 days or so and hadn't gotten around to ordering a backup yet. Won't happen again I guarantee it. Analogs are a thing of my past.
  15. Funny you mention that, I just now got an 801 from Arno over at Awesome Vapor and tried it. No problems at all. I'll know which one I like better I suppose once the 801 gets broken in fully.
  16. Went to both the CNN link, and the original article ddave, looks like they have turned the comments off.
  17. Thanks Christopher, It has happened again, but I find when I back the adpater off a bit it comes back to life, I just ordered a Joye 510 stunt double for the meantime until the Joker comes out. I really appreciate the help everyone, That was the biggest scare I've had in a long time, felt kinda like coming out of the bowling alley and seeing your bike lock cut and no bike
  18. Luckily, I managed to get it working again Michelle, Just gave me the scare of my life. I think I better get a Joye 510 from somewhere as a lower cost stunt double for my PT until the Joker comes out.
  19. I really hope someone can help. I was vaping away with my morning coffee and suddenly, no lights, no vapor, nothing. I tried switching from wall power (which I have been using exclusively) to usb to see if maybe the power pack had gone south on me. When the button was pressed, the powered usb I use dimmed to complete darkness and also didn't work. The light on the power pack also goes to near dark when button is pressed on the VP/PT. I've been holding out on getting another PV until the Joker's release and now I'm really wishing I hadn't. 12 days without an analog, I really don't want to go back to them. This is NOT good. EDIT: as of this writing, I managed to get it to work again, I unscrewed the 510 adapter completely and then pressed the button, lights came back on. re-installed adapter and atomizer and voila, back in business. THANK GOODNESS! Anyone else ever have this issue? I'm ordering a backup RIGHT now. I'm not sure what happened, but I'm not taking ANY chances on being without.
  20. That was hugely funny Uma, thanks for sharing!
  21. Ran across this and thought it might be of interest: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704022804575041131258830988.html?mod=WSJ_latestheadlines
  22. You were SO right nana, I ended up seeing tiny little melt marks on mine (the black part) and ended up trimming them down just a bit. Thanks for the tip (no pun intended), I was watching for it as a result. Melted plastic wouldn't taste too good. Not to mention probably ruining my atty.
  23. That is really great! Same happened to me, I had gone to my son's program at school and put on a jacket that I had worn before I gave up analogs, I could not believe the cigarette smell on that jacket would still be so strong. Looks like, as Christopher said I need to go on a 'cleaning spree' to get rid of the remaining cigarette stench. Thank goodness for Vaping.
  24. So I'm getting on in years and my eyes aren't what they used to be. I am in love with my VP/PT but it's dark, really dark. When the lights are low I have a really hard time dripping right on the atomizer, is there any e-cig that you know of that has a light near the coils or on the coils that makes nighttime dripping easier for us old guys? I have a great big light on the outside, but if someone could make even just a bit of that light enter where the coil is, maybe with a fiber optic strand, it would help me immensely. Anyone seen one like that? or maybe a mod?
  25. And then there's 'Vapor on the Water' The old Deep Purple tune
