  1. For my money, Decadent Vapours are the best and easiest flavourings to use. TW is running a promo now for a DIY kit that contains premium liquid nic, bottles, VG or PG and 3 Decadent Vapour flavorings for $55. The liquid nic is 54MG and at 30ML, you will get far more than $55 worth of ready to vape e-juice out of it. It really depends on the strenght you mix. Every bottle of platinum ice (liquid nic) comes with a mixing/recipe guide. There is also a helpful video on the site when you open up the page for the DIY kit. It really shows how easy it is.

I checked that kit out, mostly because I've never tried the Decadent Vapours flavorings and wouldn't mind giving them a spin, my only issue is the price isn't much of a discount over purchasing pre-made juice. As you said depending on the nic strength you mix to it will vary, but mixing to 24mg/ml you get about 80ml of juice for close to $60. So pretty close to retail prices.

  2. I was kind of in the same boat, placed my order right before that notice went up, personally I opted to wait for the next batch. I'm all out of flavorless base at the moment, but still have some old juices I bought awhile back to get through. It just sucks because I ordered a bunch of new flavorings and haven't really been able to try any of them out yet. I'm actually thinking about picking up a little bit of the pink tinted juice to tide me over until my 500ml of the new batch comes in. Definitely good customer service @ XtremeVaping.com, when I get my juice in I'll be able to speak to that as well.

  3. First shipment of High Nic base arrived today. Hopefully the rest of my stuff gets here tomorrow. Igor! start the mixing machine!

Grats, post any great recipes you come up with for sure, in the past I have not been good about really documenting my recipes but when my next batch of base arrives I'll start keeping notes and sharing in the DIY Juice sub-forum. Right now my first goal is to make a really good cinnamon juice for the wife, but I'm hesitant because I have had problems with the cinnamon flavorings I have used previously. After that I'm thinking some kind of wintergreen + menthol combination. Also I will say that I was disappointed with LorAnn's Grape flavoring, I actually get a better Grape flavor by using a combination of Apple and Blueberry with just a drop or two of Grape. Now I'm rambling...

  4. I think the handling of high strength nicotine base can be dangerous when attempted by anyone without the proper equipment and knowledge. That being said I personally don't mind dealing with it because I have the proper equipment along with a good knowledge of how to handle it safely, not to mention I don't have kids and my cats can't open my pantry where I keep my DIY e-juice supplies. The amount of money you can save by mixing your own juice is pretty astounding.

  5. So I just heard there's no more smoking as of the end of the year on submarines. Yes, believe it or not, they still allow it, I think their air exchangers are really good. So anyone know how to blog/twitter/inform the USN smokers and let them know of an alternative? First battle is to get them on board (ha ha, get it?). Then get the USN proper to allow it on board as an alternative. After they do a study maybe? Many things have come from government studies. I'll try and find the blurb when I can.

You might get a few converts but I see more of those guys turning to the dip.

  6. My best advice is buy some high strength nicotine base you can put up in a cupboard and save it for a rainy day, and some extra atomizers.

EDIT: that is assuming you feel comfortable with handling high strength base and diluting it down to a usable level.

  7. Champagne is a good one. I also use the pina colada, butter rum, english toffee and peach.

    Saltwater taffy sounds good.

I love mad scientist mode. I find creating new flavors very satisfying.

I can't seem to get my English Toffee to taste right, going to try it again with some sweetener I think, it just tasted dry to me before.

  8. Glad you found what you were looking for! Had I been paying attention I'd have mentioned that eBay is a great place for that kind of stuff, if you're patient. Graduated cylinders were the first thing I bought when I determined I was going to start mixing, but in fact I haven't yet used them. Still mixing in too-small batches I guess. Perhaps I will some day.

I got a few different sizes when I ordered, one 250ml, one 50ml and one 10ml, perfect for mixing large and small batches. Also picked up 5 Erlenmeyer Flasks with rubber stoppers to store my nicotine base once I cut it down to an appropriate strength.

  9. I'm a fan of the Silver Bullet. 6V with a 3.5ohm atty is great for me, but we're all different. I have a feeling you'll be happy with whatever you buy provided it works as advertised. I'm becoming more of a "keep it simple" PV person, just a switch with a well vented battery housing and as few solder points as possible. I buy protected LifePO4 batteries for my HV mods so I'm confident that it's relatively safe all on it's own.

  10. Thanks for the info. I checked to see about water soulability with the Lorann's and ordered a couple that I want to experiment with. Slipping into Mad Scientist mode.

Which flavors did you get? One of my favorites is Black Licorice, that mixed with a little Salt Water Taffy and a dash of Marshmallow is pretty tasty in my opinion, but I know that is not a flavor everyone enjoys. Also the Champagne mixes well with lot's of other flavors.

  11. Thank you all for the advice! So, I got a few things at the store. I found pure glycerine at cvs, but am not sure as it "says" it's for skin and for external use only??? Have not decided on that yet though I know some people use it. I then went to a craft store and got Wilton Glycerine and Wilton Butter Flavor and Almond Extract. Thy did not have much in the way of flavors. The almond extract is water, alcohol and artificial flavors so I mixed it with the glycerine. 20% extract to 80% glycerine. Thus creating........ You guessed it Amaretto! For my first go I am very pleased! That said I see what people are saying about throat hit a VG. I can't really tell it's working untill I exhale that big plume of vapor! A was thinking the alcohol in the extract may help a little, but no matter how long or hard I pull I can not tell I am pulling anything. I thought I would like that because my throat was a little raw from all the vaping but I find I do miss a little something. Anyway, I wanted to share with you my first try, thanks again for the help! Sorry for any typos, posted this from my phone :)

You can try adding some alcohol, Everclear is what most people use. I also know some juice manufacturers add lemon juice (citric acid) to their e-juice, I would think that would add to throat hit. You can buy citric acid at some grocery stores, I picked mine up at a place called Fiesta here in Houston. You'd have to dissolve it in some distilled water or something, but I think that would be better than adding lemon juice which has natural sugars in it. I'll actually whip up a batch and get back to you since I have everything I need in the kitchen to test this out.

  12. Ok, I have asked a few people this but an still waiting on an answer, so sorry for doubling up efforts :innocent: Anyway, I am wondering, If I don't care about the nicotine can I go wrong with a simple mix of VG and food flavorings? I understand I will get more vapor and possibly less throat hit, is this right? Am I missing something here?

Hey I'm having issues with the messenger system for some reason and was not able to reply to you earlier. But what I was going to say is you can find VG locally, just look in your local health food store, you know, the one that smells overwhelmingly like vitamins and incense. Also I believe Hobby Lobby sells some of the LorAnns flavors, but generally not a large selection. There are a number of flavor suppliers people like for e-juice including- LorAnn's, Capella, Flavour Art, Perfumer's Apprentice. As McQuinn said you can also go to a site like DIYflavorshack.com and purchase many of these items along with things like VG and PG, bottles, funnels, etc.

Also as McQuinn said VG + Flavoring works just fine. You may find the VG to be a little thick, in which case I recommend diluting it with a little distilled water. Some people have said they add alcohol for extra throat hit, but in my experience it doesn't do much besides ruin the flavor for me. Seriously though, straight VG has very little throat hit in my opinion, so you may have to experiment if that is a big deal for you.

  13. One of my favorite suppliers is Perfumer's Apprentice. They have introduced a nice line of flavors for vapers. I'm about to make another order from PA because some of their stuff is simply out of this world. Note that they're not as concentrated as Lorran's; they make up for this by being (my opinion) very clear and well made. I can't recommend them enough.

I just received my first order from Perfumer's Apprentice last night. I'm still waiting for my nicotine base, but I may have to make some small batches of 0nic juice to try them out, they definitely smell promising. Have you tried the Sweetener or Ethyl Maltol they sell? I picked up some of each along with some Menthol crystals too.

  14. I know they sell some graduated beakers and flasks at Fry's Electronics (over by the kids chemistry sets) but I'm almost positive Fry's is a West Coast - Mid West thing, so I don't think that will help you much. Also based on prices I have seen at local stores you still get off cheaper buying online (assuming you're not just buying one graduated cylinder).

  15. I don't know of many Vapers here but I bet it would be wierd to have a room clouded up from ceiling to floor and still be able to breathe. One of my favorite things to do on a sunny afternoon is vape 100%VG and watch the sun beams dancing in the clouds of vapor .I can fill aroom by myself pretty easy.

I'll second that, I can cloud up my living room when getting work done on the laptop during the day. Throw a couple more people into that mix and I'm sure I could fog out the room pretty heavily.

  16. Good point about the gum. I may try that if vaping tobacco is a failure. If I remember right it is kind of expensive though.

Yeah, just as expensive as smoking cigarettes in my experience (maybe even a little more). Not to mention the skin irritation and crazy, vivid, weird *** dreams. Oh how I hate the patch.

  17. I have just got into vaping yesterday, and want to get off the analogs. So I purchased a puresmoke kit from a local cigar store. After I purchased it, I found this site, and realized there are so much more better products. I am a person that usually wants the best of the best. What do you think is better, the Janty eGo, or the Vypr? Do both of them have dripping capabilities instead of using a cart? When you buy a kit of one of them, do they come with liquid?

Any insight would be great for this noob to vaping.

    Rob

I haven't used either unit, but I have used the VP1 as well as the Spade from Vaprlife and both are solid mods. I imagine the Vypr is pretty similar. Lot's of people love their Janty eGos too. I think you'd be happy with either one. Vypr at least uses standard 14500 batts that are cheap to replace when needed, the eGo battery is built into the switch and atomizer connection, so when it goes you have to replace it all.
