Brian Posted January 17, 2010 Share Posted January 17, 2010 At the risk of making a complete idiot of myself, I ventured out today and ordered all the parts needed to make a 5v mod. I went for the easiest method I could find so hopefully I can learn the basics from doing this. I ordered everything I need from madvapes.com. I spent $40 and ordered enough supplies to make 4 units, plus another $20 on 4 14500 batteries (needed those for my VP2 anyhow). I traded several emails with Mark (from madvapes) and he was very helpful and got me on my way. I plan to at least document the process and take pics. I'll post the project when it's done. Thanks! Yea, from what I've seen it really not that difficult. I'm going to start with a box mod as it seemed to be the easiest and give you the most room to work. A unit that switches betweeen 3.7v and 5v (I've read a little on this - don't think it'll be that difficult). 3. Maybe 6v. Heck - once I saw how cheap it was I figured I could expirament a lot. It didn't look difficult to me - and I don't make things like that. I showed it to my husband and he really wanted to give it a try. And it was cheap enough that we figured we could make some mistakes and it wouldn't cost much to redo either. And, if I don't like it, we're not out much. Drew a wiring diagram, took a pic of it and sent it to Mark at Madvapes to make sure I understood correctly where everything went (he answered me within a few minutes - said it looked sweet). So, I'm all set to start soldering, but I have to wait until tonight when I can sit here and do it without much interruption. I was working on my order for parts, left for a second to answer the phone, came back and my computer had reset. Now I have to redo the whole thing. But I really want the parts and want to get one made. I need back ups....badly. I'm going back and forth on ordering a new 510 kit or just some mega batteries. I have to make up my mind quick and get it ordered, before I have nothing left to vape with. Then I think I'll have my husband make me about 10 of those mods. Maybe that will keep me for awhile. Other than re-attaching a wire on some of my kids toys, I've never soldered before. My soldering iron is several years old and I'm pretty sure I need to replace the tip. I goal for this project was to just get one built and working. It's not pretty. I didn't cover or seal any of my connection and didn't use any JB Weld or Gorilla snot. However, it's together and it works! I learned a lot doing this so hopefully next time I can put together some instructions. Pretty sure I'll get some 4 battery cases instead of using the 3 batt cases. It was just to tight for my liking. I bet that the next time you try, it will be a bit more easier. You must have great patience, I probably would have chucked it against a wall. How does it work?
