yes. exactly like that. once a coil pops it will have a break in the wire.

you can recoil and rewick it!

I had planned on keeping it, I just need to get a multi meter. What kind of wire and wick. Other question what is the diff between 400 & 500 mesh?

400 and 500 is the difference of how many strands of wire in a square inch. and you need A1 kanthal wire and silica wick you could do cotton and nichrome if you want but to make it as close to original as possible... kanthal and silica.
