Are you going to try to just rewick or rebuild the dual coils?
Isn't it supposed to rain in your area tomorrow?
I figured I'd play around with the dual-coils and see what I can build... not just re-wick... but try a vertical build? And yes, it is supposed to rain (and be cold) here until Tuesday night (Autumn is here!)... so I'll have plenty of time to "play"

Good info on the i16 wicks Comp... but I hoped my message was clearer... that dry burning was not necessary on a factory coil, even though it is possible, because a fresh coil is so inexpensive (and tastes so much better, lol).
-
Yes the do not gurgle as much or spit. I think that is due to the restriction of the holes in the sleeve. I think this is also why the dry hit more.
I'm working on doing a vert coil rebuild for the KPT dual coil. the head has more than enough room to do the vert coil.
That's good news! And, I've got about a dozen dual-coil heads lying about... Hmmm... something to try on a rainy-day
-
Comp, when you say 'leak less', do you mean leaking into the center-tube, causing those annoying gurgling sounds and drips on the battery posts?
Honestly, since I've changed over to using 1.5 ohm coils (not the new style), I've not had this issue in a LONG time.... even with my 80/20 juices! To me, it seemed that the 2.0 dual-coils gurgled FAR more, and was compounded by thinner juices. I doubt I'll see any of these new coils for a long time, too... I've still got more than 50 of the old-style on the shelf
I also wonder if the new configuration could more readily be adapted to a vertical micro-coil?

Cleaning is simple... disassemble as far as you can, wash in standard dish-soap (tiny bottle brush helps greatly), rinse, rinse, rinse, and rinse again. Some even take the extra steps of boiling some water and then soaking the tank (and parts) in the boiled water (no longer on heat source). A final soak in 90% (or higher) Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or Vodka is also performed by many to remove contaminants from tap-water, and it acts as a drying-agent to remove water drops faster. Vodka is preferred because if you don't fully dry the parts well enough, vaping a little Vodka is not so bad... vaping IPA... YUK!
Dry burning is used to clear the gunk off of coils on an RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer), and is not something you'd need to worry about with your tanks. You CAN do it, but it is not necessary... but if you do, you should remove the wicks first, put the coil assembly on your battery and fire the button, bringing the coil to a red-hot "dry-burn" 2-3 times. Then, you must re-wick the coil. Doing it with the wick in place will burn up the wick, or at least damage it, reducing it's ability to soak-up juice at the area of the coil, which reduces performance. Replaceable coils are just too darn cheap to worry with dry-burning

Kanger ProTanks (KPT), KPT2 minis, Aspire Nautilus Mini, Vivi Nova Mini (plastic tanks), and a host of other styles out there
Kanger and Aspire are considered "standards", and generally are very cheap to buy and maintain. Kanger's coils are probably the cheapest, @ $1 or less each.
BTW, welcome aboard!

In my EVOD tanks, I find best flavor with 80/20 or 70/30 PG/VG juices. 50/50 juices work, but will have less flavor, more vapor. Thicker VG does take a few seconds between hits to wick (not good for chain vaping), and will wear out coils faster (lasting days instead of weeks).

My MVP 2.0 came with 2 dual coil iclear16 tanks. I love these tanks because they are top fill. I hated having to unscrew my other tanks from the battery, and turn them upside down to fill them.
I primarily use bottom-coil / bottom-fill Kanger tanks with my MVP... BUT, like you, I'd rather make the refill (or swap in my case) fast when I run dry/low... SO... I have 10 tanks (6 KPT2's, and 4 AeroTanks) which I currently use in rotation... when one needs a re-fill, I simply unscrew that tank and pop on a fresh one.
This serves three purposes for me... 1) no waiting for a freshly filled tank, 2) As each tanks sees use 1-2 times per week, so coils last for weeks and weeks and weeks
, and 3) most importantly, I can fill the empty tanks at my leisure (in the evening while watching TV or on a long boring conference-call)... performing any maintenance, cleaning, coil-swaps, etc. at that time, while not interrupting my vaping
Another good thing about extra tanks, is that you can have multiple flavors ready-to-vape without wait, as your mood or tastes change throughout the day!

Welcome!
It is a slow process for some, so don't get discouraged... What device(s) are you using? Tell us a bit more about yourself...

How the heck do you do a mouth to lung rip on a dripper? lol my Doge has so much airflow I like just can't mouth to lung it just straight lung hauls.
That was my point...
Even my dripper (running 50/50 PG/VG @ 6mg nicotine) will make me cough from time to time, especially if I take a full lung-hit, rather than my usual mouth-to-lung hits, like I do on my tanks.
With reduced air-flow, it is possible to do a mouth-to-lung hit on an RDA, but you also reduce the vapor production, obviously, which defeats the purpose for most people.
However, on the lowest air-setting on my Magma, it IS possible to mouth-to-lung... it's just not overly satisfying on vapor production... but if the RDA were my only device, it would be a viable way to reduce the coughing issue caused by PG/nicotine/excessive-vapor.
My RTA (Russians), I treat them like a Kanger tank and mouth-to-lung them... and get PLENTY of satisfying flavor/vapor (far more than my AeroTanks, even though they're running similar coil resistances), and the air-flow is not restrictive, but not nearly as open as my RDA.
Most of the time (but not always), I do lung-hit my Magma... but, I'm not sub-ohming it to 0.1 or 0.2 Ohms, which would require heavy air-flow... my Magma (at the moment) is running dual-coils @ 0.85 Ohms, which works well for me with reduced air-flow -- I'm not a cloud-chaser -- which is why I'll normally grab my Russian or my Kanger tanks long before I'll pick up my RDA
-
I agree with everyone else... no factory tank with factory pre-built coils will make huge clouds, with maybe the exceptions Bebop mentioned... then again, they still will not equal an RDA.
If you want HUGE clouds, you'll need to evolve into using an RDA (dripper) or RTA (tank like Kayfun, Russian, Orchid, or perhaps including a Genesis tank like a Kraken). To get the big clouds, you have to have good airflow, high VG content juice, and very low resistance (sub-ohm) coil(s)... which also means you have to have a battery that will handle high-AMP draw. Your MVP will only let you go down to 0.8 Ohms at the VERY lowest, and at that point, your Amps/Wattage/Voltage are limited by the device, so you're output will not equal 0.8 Ohms on an un-regulated MOD with a good 18650 battery.
I get satisfying vapor out of my AeroTank/MVP set-up... using 50/50 juices, but the factory coils tend to give out quickly with thick juices. A Nautilus (as Tam suggested) may produce more vapor (and last longer) with the BVC coils. My Russians produce great vapor (near or exceeding my Magma RDA), which is more than enough for me
... then again, they are RTA's and I'm building them @ 1.0-1.4 Ohm and using them primarily on an un-regulated MOD (but have used them with my MVP)!

When you start vaping, a rare few of us can make the change to vaping on day one and not look back... but it is a rare few
Several members here have admitted to hanging onto that last pack (or carton) for weeks, months, even years after vaping... just in case... There's nothing wrong with slipping back to an analog, seriously! But each time you do, you'll find they are less appealing than you remember. They'll taste worse, smell worse, and make you feel ill... and the longer you can go without them, the more pronounced the effect will be.
Bebop is spot-on... Nicotine is only one of 4000+ chemicals you are/were addicted to, on top of the hand-to-mouth action and smell of the smoke! Vaping is a good way to quit, but you have to rid yourself of all the other toxins by sticking with vaping. Flavor, nicotine, vapor, and hand-to-mouth action will help you with those cravings you have, but don't beat yourself up if you slip and have a smoke while you're training your body and mind to accept a (healthier) alternative. The cigarette police won't come and kick down your door... unless of course you live in NYC or LA
-
High PG ratio juices and high Nicotine level juices will sometimes make me cough... especially in the mornings or if I've not had enough water to drink during the day (dry throat to start with). Even my dripper (running 50/50 PG/VG @ 6mg nicotine) will make me cough from time to time, especially if I take a full lung-hit, rather than my usual mouth-to-lung hits, like I do on my tanks.
Analogs have an anesthetic effect... they numb the throat and bronchial tubes, which reduce coughing and the burning effect of all those toxins entering your body (yes, another evil device of big-tobacco to keep you smoking), which is why smoking with a sore-throat always felt so good... and if you think about it... your first analog of the day usually made you cough, but the second, third... twentieth of the day didn't!
Changing to a higher VG content of your juice, drinking more water, and changing to mouth-to-lung draws will reduce your urge to cough (usually).

Hopefully Tam or Chris can cancel your order for you so you don't receive the wrong coils.
It does get better as you learn more about the different manufacturers and devices out there. One piece of advice is to always include the brand (iSmoka) of your tank when searching for replacement parts. You're not the first to order the wrong thing... me included, lol... and won't be the last
BTW, that choco-java is really good stuff

Glad to hear that cleaning has done the trick for removing the bad taste...
As for your switch sticking and heating up... that is common with weak/cheap/thin springs... the spring becomes a "coil" and will heat up. Moving to magnetic will help a lot, but so will replacing the spring with a more heavy-duty one. Also be sure to clean the switch area to remove any contaminants, cleaning/polish residue, etc.

The basic eGo-T battery is the only eGo battery I use... they work well... Spinners and Twists (VV batteries) were just not my cup-o-tea
Getting a genuine Kanger or Vision, or JoyeTech battery is a nice thing to have, but the knock-off eGo-T's (no logo on the bottom) are just as good. You may not get a couple of year's use out of them, but they do work well (or they don't work at all)... there is no in-between.
The battery will output @ 3.7V, so your real variable is your tank and coil.
-
A lot of times, the vape-shop will use a battery that is not fully charged, or a variable-voltage battery that is set at 3.3V (lowest settings). Another difference is the type of tank they have their juices in... different tank's coil orientation and resistance will taste differently.
An EVOD tank also comes pre-installed with a coil, usually 2.5 Ohm or 2.2 Ohm, but sometimes a low-resistance coil of 1.5 or 1.8 Ohm. The juice will taste differently with different resistance coils. Pre-installed coils are not always the best coil... replacement coils almost always last longer and provide better flavor. If the juice tastes hot or burnt, you should use a higher wattage coil, or turn down the Voltage of your VV battery (if you are using one), or try a replacement coil.
Personally, I prefer 1.5 Ohm coils at 3.7V, but some juices just taste a little better with a 1.8 Ohm or even a 2.0/2.2 Ohm coil.... especially bakery flavors or chocolates.
OhmWrecker is correct... high PG levels will make a harsher throat-hit, but if it tasted good in the shop, it should taste similar at home (in your tank). The only variables should be the type of tank (top or bottom coil, single or dual-coil), resistance of coil, and Voltage applied from your battery.

Everyone is different, but one common thread to all who try vaping as a substitute for smoking... nicotine level and flavor. Once you find a flavor you like, you're more apt to pick up the vape... and having enough nicotine to satisfy the cravings will keep you coming back to the electronics, rather than grabbing the lighter!
I started out with 24mg. As a former cigar smoker, I needed the high-PG throat-hit even more than the nicotine/vapor... So, it didn't take long before I moved to 18mg 80/20 juices during the day, saving the 24mg for early mornings when my cravings were highest (with my morning coffee, or after the evening meal). Soon, I realized I slept better at night if my last vapes of the day were 12mg or 6mg 50/50 juices... Even now, 6-months later, I still use 15-18mg (80/20, 70/30, and 60/40 mixes) most of the day, but keep some 24mg handy for high-stress / high-craving times... and use 12, 6, or 3mg (60/40 or 50/50 mixes) in different devices (RBA/RDA).
-
If the battery needs charging, the firing button will flash, instead of remaining a steady blue color when you press it. It will not taste burnt as the battery depletes it's charge... that is actually providing less voltage/Amps, not more.
I'm pretty sure you just have a really cheap e-liquid, and should follow Bebop's advice... find a vape shop locally where you can sample different flavors and different manufacturer's juices. They can also help you with finding a better clearomizer (tank) or two, as well as coils for them. With the eGo-T batteries, I recommend 1.5-1.8 Ohm coils for best flavor on most juices.
Depending on what you smoked before, as well as how many packs/day, you may need to use an 18mg (1.8%) or even higher nicotine content to provide you with an equivalent nicotine dose.

I've heard several other people complain about Tobeco's Kayfuns... it seems they are more hit-and-miss than the no-name clones?
Glad you got a good one from EhPro... just watch for the notorious "airflow screw" issues (V1 and V2 screws are on the bottom), as they tend to back themselves out and can jam the tank onto a MOD if the top is grooved or decorative (not smooth).
-
My 1100mAh eGo-T's are workhorses... and last a full day or more of heavy use.
As for the clearomizer, if it is a top-fill (unscrew the black tip and fill from the top), then it is likely a Ce4, which are disposable... you'll get about 2-3 weeks out of it at best, and then just toss it in the trash. They're pretty good clearomizers, though... but I'd recommend a bottom-coil design like a full-size or mini Kanger or Aspire, so you can just replace the atomizer/coil for a <$1 (Kanger) or ~$2.50 (Aspire), rather than buying a new Ce4 for $4+.
Tam is right, though... if you have a picture, we'll be better able to tell you what you have and give recommendations.

I've tried some "local" juices before that had a harsh metallic after-taste before...
I agree with Charles... you possibly have some residual juice that is giving you the after-taste. Clean it well, air-dry and rebuild again to ensure nothing of the old juice remains.
Also, is your drip-tip Aluminum? I have an Aluminum drip-tip and it gives ANY juice an after-taste. Brass and Copper can leave an after-taste with certain juices as well, although I've not experienced that with mine. For the most part, I stick with SS, Pyrex, or Delrin tips.
Mod Battery Recommendation

I have several Panasonic button-tops (3400mAh)... I'm not sure what they're rated, but "think" I read they were 20-25A. I've pushed them up to 8.5A before (4.2V @ 0.5 Ohm), and they didn't even get warm, so I'm guessing 20A minimum rating? The nice thing about them is that they last for 2-days in my MODs... although I primarily use them in flashlights, where they really "shine"

My go-to battery for my MODs, though, are Sony VTC4's...
