  1. I don't know that she's "gone" -- she'll turn up somewhere, she's a career politician. As for Brown, I know that he hates e cigs -- and that's the least of the things wrong with Jerry Brown. If this State re-elects that lunatic, then California really is doomed anyway and it's time to hitch the wagons and get the hell out of here. (And I am a California native.) If you look around at all the crumbling infrastructure in CA, that was the legacy of Jerry Brown's last governorship -- he took a prosperous State and ran it into the ground. If he gets re-elected, the only things left thriving in California are going to be spotted owls, sardines and him. And I say that, while being far less than thrilled by any of the other current contenders for the California governorship from any Party.
  2. By the way, Corbett's Senate seat is up for election in 2010 -- and I can't find anything that says that she is running again.
  3. Yes, and Corbett is proud of it -- even touting it on her website. Here's what she has to say about this new bill It always "for the children" -- which sounds good until you realize we're "the children" in her narcissistic eyes. In truth, this is just one more cowardly politician hiding behind "the children" -- like most terrorists do.
  4. SB 882 (Corbett) Introduced 1/14/10 Tobacco: nicotine delivery devices. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 882, as introduced, Corbett. Tobacco: nicotine delivery devices. Existing law, the Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement Act (STAKE Act), establishes various requirements for retailers relating to tobacco sales to minors. A violation of this act is a crime. This bill would authorize action to halt the sale, distribution, or offering for sale of electronic cigarettes that have not been approved or cleared by the federal Food and Drug Administration. By changing the definition of an existing crime, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program. The Sherman Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Law requires the State Department of Public Health to regulate the manufacture, sale, labeling, and advertising activities related to food, drugs, devices, and cosmetics in conformity with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. A violation of these provisions is a crime. This bill would deem any article that can provide inhaled doses of nicotine by delivering a vaporized solution a drug under these provisions. By expanding the definition of an existing crime, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as an urgency statute.
  5. Thanks everybody! It basically sounds like the only main difference between an e-cig and an e-cigar is the shape.
  6. I was vaping at a social event last night, and the buddy of a dear friend started asking me about vaping. He's a cigar-smoker so he was most interested in the e-cigar and asked me for where he can purchase one. I know almost nothing about e-cigars & their flavors -- other than the fact that they exist. Would an e-cigar user or supplier please help me point this guy in the right direction re type of e-cigar and flavors. Are the e-cigar carts refillable?
  7. LOL! I thought you said, "I started growing hair on my back". Was waiting for involuntary "howled at the moon" and "I ate the cat, but I can't remember", next. That's what I get for reading too fast before my second cup of coffee!
  8. I thought the same thing, but then one day when I was bored I gave it a try. It worked really well -- better than anything else I had tried, and it delivered consistently. So I did a second one. Both of them work like a charm. The advantage to these pyramid tea bags is that they are made of a silk-like material so they are washable and reusable. It really is far less fussy than it sounds. Just cut it, roll it, clip it and stuff it.
  9. My dogs really love the smell of the Apple Cider liquid that I got from Johnson's Creek, so I have been even more careful than usual (which is pretty careful) with what I do with this stuff around them. I can understand their curiosity, because this Apple Cider Liquid is the best liquid I have ever tasted! Too bad that JC only makes it a Christmas time.
  10. Just the opposite here. My husband freaked out when he saw me running two laptops at once. He barely uses his one pc. Me, I think that I was born with a USB port in the back of my head.
  11. I am not trying to cover up anything. I just have had none of these symptoms which is kind of weird for me because I am allergic to just about everything, including having severe allergic asthma and pretty much being the poster child for skin allergies. (My dermatologist actually called in his nurses to see the severity of my reactions to the patch test and then asked my permission to take photos. I was mortified.) Doesn't mean that it isn't real for you, just that the worst symptom I have ever had from vaping was to get the hiccups from swallowing juice. I am usually the canary in the coal mine for allergies -- but it seems that this is not the case with me and vaping. Took to it like a fish to water. I am sad that you are having this problem.
  12. Years ago, when I was in my mid 20's, I developed something called "Adult Onset Acne". I'd never had acne as a teenager so it came as quite a shock. When I went to the doctor, the first thing that my dermatologist asked me was, "What is going on in your life right now?". I told him that I'd just moved to a new city, started a new job as a manager of new office, gotten engaged and bought a house, all within three months. He looked at me and said, "I'll treat you and give you some medicine to help, but I suspect that this acne will disappear on its own when your life settles down and you are less stressed". The doctor was absolutely right. The acne disappeared with six months, as swiftly as it came, it went away. Stress can be really tough on the body sometimes, and can even get to the best of us.
  13. From the packaging it sounds like Johnson's Creek liquid. It's made here in the US, and usually one of the best. I'm kind of wondering whether or not you may be allergic to either the flavorings or the PG. Those kind of food (flavoring) allergies run in families, too. You might try switching to a different type of flavor and see if that helps.
  14. That's awesome! Will definitely try it! But I am amazed that you aren't sucking liquid out the inhaling end.
  15. You are right on with that Keenan. Looked it up: "...Upon entering the bloodstream, nicotine immediately stimulates the adrenal glands to release the hormone epinephrine (adrenaline). Epinephrine stimulates the central nervous system and increases blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate. Glucose is released into the blood while nicotine suppresses insulin output from the pancreas, which means that smokers have chronically elevated blood sugar levels...". Nicotine, as the culprit, had never crossed my mind since vapers were all smokers (getting nicotine) to begin with, but it makes sense. Must say that I find this thread absolutely fascinating because it shows how well we are able to research and take care of our own health, without the FDA's interference.
  16. Curious, vaping PG or VG?
  17. VG is also called "glycerol" and glycerol is one of what are called "sugar alcohols", along with sorbitol, manitol and several substances. These sugar alcohols are often used in foods for diabetics because (in theory) "they are not supposed to raise blood sugar". There is however several big "but"s: 1. Although sugar alcohols are not supposed to raise blood sugar when eaten, in some people they do raise blood sugar. The author of the South Beach Diet talks about how consuming sugar alcohols can sometimes have a negative effect on weight-loss for some people, even when they aren't eating any other carbs, because it does raise their blood sugar. 2. The other "but" is that while theoretically glycerol isn't supposed to raise blood sugar for most people when you eat it, vaping is "inhaling", not "eating". Vaping VG completely bypasses the gut and goes straight into the bloodstream to the liver to be metabolized. Is the gut the filter that prevents VG from being absorbed into the bloodstream completely for most people? I have no idea. But it is worth some thought. 3. PG has chemical properties similar to glycerol and many argue that PG should be included as a "sugar alcohol", although it is not officially considered a sugar alcohol now. PG does have calories similar to glycerol and sugar, and is absorbed much the same way. Husband is borderline diabetic, so I've had to do a little research on sugar & sugar alcohols, but I never put it together in my head re vaping before now.
  18. That's because no one, including those who vote for more government control, really trusts government anymore. Maybe it's been too many episodes of The X Files and Fringe. Or maybe it's just the thought that, "If you let them spray PG, then who knows what they may put in it that they aren't telling us about?" A good friend of mine who works in the current Obama Administration and worked in the Clinton Administration in the 1990's said something to me that I will always remember. She said that "the one thing that you can be absolutely sure of about those who say that they don't believe in conspiracy theories is that they've never worked for government." Husband, who worked for 30 years in a State appointed job, agreed. All government is a mass of "conspiracies" -- but the real ones are usually far more banal and self-serving conspiracies, rather than the sinister science-fiction thriller variety that the kooks focus on. But I do agree, because we vape PG all the time, we are less afraid of PG than someone with no experience with it. And we vapers have an investment in proving PG's safety -- even benefit-- so that we can vape anywhere and look really smart doing it. It's hard to be objective when you are trying to prove a point.
  19. I agree, it is pretty hard to find data on nicotine use that isn't connected to smoking or NRT's but there are some interesting linkshere (featured story, about 1/4 of the way down the page) from British medical sources.
  20. I think -- and it's also just my opinion -- that humans are genetically and psychologically programmed to have "rituals". By rituals, I mean physical and mental actions that we repeat regularly that comfort us and make us feel good. Whether those rituals are coffee-drinking, smoking, praying, doing drugs, running everyday, cooking, etc is up to us. But there is something psychologically satisfying to doing those things every day, including all the repetitive actions that lead up to them. It's much the same reason that vaping satisfies smoker's urges more than something like nicorette or other forms of nicotine alone. The rituals are similar between vaping and smoking. And that's just my take on it.
  21. I don't know the studies that you have been looking at, but from what I have read the single worst thing about nicotine is that it is highly addictive and the second worst thing is that it does tend to reduce body weight, which is why pregnant women must not smoke or vape or risk low fetal birth weights. Yes, at very high doses nicotine can be toxic, but so can many things. Beyond those things, scientifically, nicotine doesn't seem to have many other negative side effects. Nicotine doesn't cause cancer or heart attacks. However, having said all of that, no one really wants to be "an addict", climbing walls if they can't vape or smoke. So there are good reasons to step down nicotine to zero, but it appears that the benefits for doing this are more psychological than purely physiological.
  22. You are absolutely right about the "excellent customer service". Because of the run on his site due to so many other e-cig sites being down, Jeffrey's inventory has been flying off the shelves, and he was a one atomizer short of being able to completely fulfill my order. So he called me on the phone to tell me the problem and offer me some reasonable alternatives. At the end of the call, he even threw in a little bonus for my time. Now THAT'S customer service! Way to go, Jeffrey!
  23. I know. It was really dumb -- a few bucks worth of empty carts and he lost a customer. For me, it wasn't the money, it was that I didn't want to have to work that hard (sending multiple emails without response) over getting back a few dollars worth of stuff. And it occurred to me that if he was like this over something small, what would he be like if it was a bigger problem? Hate to say it, but some people just aren't mature enough to be in retail business.
  24. Thanks, Speakeasy & Keenan! Good prices too. Took me a little while to find the site. It's here if anyone else is looking. Hope this is a good supplier. My last supplier stiffed me for some cartridges, after I tried to do him a favor by saving him postage when he forgot it in my original order. A small thing for a few bucks, but multiple emails to him later he was still ignoring me. I hate that.
