  1. I have read that using non-Ruyan E-liquids, in Ruyan products, voids the Ruyan warranty. (Yea, right)! Ruyan went out of business. IMO, because they only intended for people to use their product, long enough to get off real cigs, and they charged way too much. It is a shame thou, because Ruyan invented them. (Thank you Hon Lik, I am forever indebted to you). I believe Ruyan was recently bought by Philip Morris. I have no clue what Philip Morris is going to do with them. Hopefully, they will produce an American made, quality attys, that last longer (with soakings), or a non-residual E=juice. Make me do a happy dance. And keep the cost down to what I am used to? [no way] [[Very negative statement]] [Don't hold your breath]. It is more likely that Philip Morris want to put e-cigs on the same shelve as the 150mpg carburetors and continue to kill 400K Americans a year. I really can not see anyone passing a sin-tax on nic without doing the same for caffeine. Thanks for letting me vent on your forum.
  2. I researched what happened at this time of year, last year. Everyone was out-of-stock due to the Christmas rush and the Chinese New Year. This year The Chinese New year only seemed to last 3 days. I have no clue why. One of my orders from China, made on 18 Dec, took 24 days! That is the only order I ever bothered to track.
  3. I was not going to tell my Doc, as he is a Veterans Administrator employee. The last time I went in, was about 9 months ago. I had been vapeing about 4 weeks and was still smoking about 6 per day. Still, he asked me what had changed. He knew that I had either changed my eating or exercising routine, as my cholesterol had dropped severely. So, I fessed up that I had started using a 901 and cut my cigarette usage by 90%. He was real happy and let me produce a big cloud in his exam room, without freaking out. He was happy wit every thing that I said. However, he lost all interest when I stated that it was not FDA approved yet. Him being a government employee, I can't blame him. After all, it is all about the money.
  4. Off topic for smells, but on topic for the rewiring of the brain. I remember trying to quit smoking a few years ago. I used the patches left over from another attempt a couple of years earlier. (I had no idea that nic had a shelf life). lol Anyway, after ~7-10 days without smoke, I completely lost my my natural ability to troubleshoot PCs. I thought it was going to be permanent, so I went back to smoking fast. This time around I had the advice of good people (most of which have been banned from that other forum). So I knew that it would be a temporary condition. Thanks Kate! You Rock! I was a 40 year smoker and doing 3 packs a day. I believe I had damaged or killed off a bunch of brain cells. I believe that when I quit smoke my brain started repairs. and it took me a couple of weeks for my brain to decide what to do with all these new brain cells. There was definitely about 10 days there, that I could not think, concentrate, remember, function, or even talk. I remember starting out with the first syllable of one word then finish with the second syllable of another word (that could have been used). It was almost funny. It sure as heck sounded funny. I gave up trying to get anything done when I found that I was not capable of even changing the battery in my bike, not that I would ride in that condition. Lucky the e-cig battery is easy. I still consider that permanently getting off smoke was a huge accomplishment, even tho it was the only thing that I got done, that week. Big Gov, Big Pharm, and Big Tobac take note: You can take my PV when yor can pry it from (You know the rest). ~~NOT recommended~~ Note I went from 60 to 6 analogs with my 1st e-cig, without trying. Then set a quit-or-die-date for six weeks later. In hind-sight, I could have possibility been a little easier on myself and avoided the extra drama. But I will never know. -- Besides everyone is different.
  5. I remember trying Johnson Creek PG and VG in the same flavor and strength. I could not detect any difference. This was ~9 months ago. I believe their VG juice still contained more PG than VG. Recently, I mixed 2 parts PG based juice with 1 part VG. It gave lots of visible vapor but I didn't care for the taste. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I'm used to. I had had the VG in the fridge for a few months before I used it. I had bought it at CVS in the hand lotion isle and found it tough to get past the label's instructions "For external use only". lol It took me awhile to get over it. USP grade is USP grade. I have never heard of it going bad. Mine has no expiration date on the bottle. Anyhow I put it in my truck for emergency use. One day I forgot to carry juice. I got it out but could not squeeze it out of the dropper bottle! It had gotten down to freezing the night before and the VG was way too thick, till I warmed it up. So for winter time emergency storage in the truck, it is going to be PG based only for me.
  6. I smoked for 40 years, with the last few at three packs a day. I believe that my brain was trying to compensate, as best it could. When I made the switch to vape, my sense of smell came back with a vengeance! I didn't document the time-line but I think it peaked at about two months, without any smoke. I was scared that it was permanent. At one point, I figured that I could take a job as the worlds first bomb and drug sniffing human. I kid you not. I remember vaping on my bike at 45 mph and freaking when I smelled the smoke from a car 50 yards in front of me. I could smell the sausage and eggs that I ate in my office, every time I re-entered the room, for the rest of the day. I had to install an air-vent in my bathroom and even had to use it for #1. It was best to go outside to, well err, I'll call it #3. lol Then things started getting really weird. One night I had a power failure. I had to find a lighter to light a oil lamp. Within minutes, I discovered that oil lamps stink. I never knew that. lol I have used 'Head and Shoulders' shampoo for 35 years. I bought a three year supply on a slick-deal. The smell became so overwhelming that I almost threw it out! Some nights when the the wind was not blowing and I was riding my bike, I could smell a sickening stink in the air, throughout a thirty mile trip! I now believe, what I was smelling, was decaying dead animals within a 5 mile radius. I was tempted to ask my doc if he had anything to tone my smell-er down. Thankfully, my brain has rewired itself, by the 3rd or 4th month. I can eat some foods in my office again. My shampoo is no longer overwhelming. In general smells are no longer a real problem, like they were in that 1-2 month period. I still detest smoke. I try to respect smokers, but I move upwind or slowly move away from them without making a scene. - As for taste; all I have really noticed is that I can no longer tolerate super salty things. I had to throw out my V-8 juice. (I then tried low sodium V-8 and did not care for it. I even tried a 50-50 mix of the two. I decided that life without V-8 is not so bad). Avoiding super salty food is a good thing. I have been a vaper for 10.5 months and have been off smoke for 9 months. I apologize if I grossed anyone out.

  8. The other way to refill is to 'direct drip' onto the atty. I do not recomend it to newbies, but it is a good way to keep you e-cig from leaking. I use a cart till they almost fall out of the attys. Then it is time to replace. That is about once per month. The poly-fill can get squashy before that. Like within 2 weeks, but I typically use the blue foam, instead. As it holds more juice and wicks faster. Attys break or worse, in one per month (usually), for me. However, I still consider myself a 3 pack a day-er. I have cleaned them, and gotten them to work for 2-3 months (sometimes). Batts typically last me 2-3 months. It is cheaper than RYO, by a long-shot.
  9. Welcome aboard 'arcangel' My typical recommendation for a 'pack a day' smoker to go a month without smoke is to buy: a DSE901 , a spare atomizer, 5 prefilled cartridges, and two 30ml bottles of the strongest juice (that you can stand). The 510 has really gained in popularity over the past 6 months and it usually comes with 2 attys instead of one. You are are struggling at a 'pack a day', so I would peg you as a 1.5 pack a day. That would equate to three 30ml bottles of juice. I would recommend three different flavors, and/or three different strengths. This will help you find the flavor and strength that is right for you. You may want to stick with flavors that can be mixed together, for adjusting the strengths. For example Grape and Turkish Blend would not mix well. (At least I doubt it). Keep some high octane juice at the ready, for trying times. Vape lower strength for your regular use. Get set-up before you stop the real ones. [The strangest thing about e-cigs is that they taste almost exactly like smoke, when you are used to smoke. However, weeks later, e-cigs taste exactly the same. That is until you try smoke again, then e-cigs taste nothing like smoke]. - - It boggles my mind - still. There is a learning curve. You have to always be charging your batteries. You have got to have sufficient back-ups. You have to learn to top-off before your carts or atty runs dry. You have to regulate how hard you drag to be able to activate it, yet not so0 much to get juice in your mouth. You have to get used to how full you can top-off you cart or atty, yet not over-fill, and cause juice to get into an auto battery. I sure hope this post did not confuse anyone. I do tend to do that.
  10. I opened a savings account at the closest bank. $300 minimum. Three days later PayPal made two deposits. One for $0.08 and one for $0.20. I then verified my account by entering those amounts into their web page. Now when I try to buy anything with PayPal I have to change the payment method from pay with bank, to pay with credit card. It only takes 3 clicks, but if I ever forget, I will have to pays some fees.
  11. I just ohm-ed out mine. I measured continuity between the internal positive battery terminal and the atty's center conductor, with or without the button being pressed. I measured 'open circuit' from the 905 threads to the atty's mating threads, with or without the button being pressed. Obviously, the switch is not direct connecting the batty to the atty. I already believed it has some kind of regulator that drops the voltage from the battery. I have no idea how this device is going to react to 6 volts. I would suspect that this mod requires more than just boring out the battery front cover. I would search deeper if I was after 6v vaping. I'd be more interested in 5v or better yet, adjustable voltage.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTOdb-zZpCU Nice production.
  13. Nightly I do this. Using two atty works better. Am I alone.
  14. As the coil drys out it runs much hotter and vaporizes what little juice is left much faster till it runs out of gas. Then it burns the flavor residue. IMHO.
  15. I didn't think of that one !!! It is cheaper than roll your own, even after you factor in a new atty per month and a new battery every 2 months. However, it can cost more after factoring in; new carpet, new paint, new bed, new pillows, and new car. Then there is the extra expense of laundry detergent, soap, deodorant, etc etc etc. Man, my grandpa knew what he was talking about, when he said that; I would smell better and I would smell better. And I thought he was being senile.
  16. I sometimes soak attys in Ever Clear to clean them. One time, I didn't let it dry, just blew it out slightly and vaped it. Well, I would agree that it has some serious throat-hit, but it was not one that I particularly cared for!
  17. I Googled "dse905 6v" and found a site that will do the mod for you for $20 and another that will soon provide a 6v conversion for $25. I do not care to promote them, so I just say google can be your friend. Looks like it would be easy if you have a lathe. Good luck to ya.
  18. I wish I had read this 'rule of thumb' when I was a newbie. I'll pass this view along to others. Thanks 'kitsune'. Anyone worried about increasing their nic addiction with vapeing should read this thread: VaporTalk - Nicotine-in-vaping-compared-to-analogs I nominate it to be pinned to the 'Health, Safety and The Electronic Cigarette' forum.
  19. Here is my unauthorized review of 905s on stock batts: http://www.vaportalk.com/forum/forum/index.php?/topic/2412-dse905-is-here/page__st__8 I would be very interested in improving the two that I bought. For now, I just use it when I want less throat-hit. Or run out of charged batts.
  20. Careful with the volt meter. I accidentally shorted out a batt while activating it. It died. I actually smelled the wires burn off. I would have thought there was some type of short circuit protection. This was on a 901 auto. (Yea, I had to blow into the LED end, while holding the probes). The probe that was supposed to be on the center contact was touching both the center and the outer. @jmhester I have never measured an atty below 2.8 ohms (510). I retire any (901) above 3.6 ohms. Most bad ones measure much higher than 4 ohms. Cruddy attys that can be cleaned always measure correct (3.3 ohms, give or take .2 ohms). I belive the 510 attys should be 2.8 ohms, give or take .2 ohms. Residue can insulate the ni-chrome. That would cause less vapor to be produced and cause the wire to run hotter, thereby increasing the chance of burning out IMO. Measuring both voltage and current while in use would give us the complete story, but I'm not setup for that yet. I would think that the resistance of the ni-chrome would go up with heat and especially if insulated with crud. In any case they would not be static numbers. I usually use my 'high-dollar' meter. However, I just got out my cheap $3 meter from Harbor Freight and gave it a try. I measured 3.8 ohms on an atty, then shorted out the leads and measured 0.5 ohms. So it can be done with a cheap meter.
  21. Amen to that! It would only take one severe problem to wipe us off the map. Big thanks to all that came before us, for not screwing it up. -- Stay vigilant. From the GreenSmoke comments, I can see why suppliers are not trusted. I decided not to refute Fred, but someone needs to. -- Thanks. note: by clicking their links, you are making them money. -- just saying...
  22. Tobacco and e-cigs are not FDA approved, Nicorette is, so it's OK for them to be flavored because "It is a serious medicine -- with palatable flavors". <<<growl>>> Then there is the fact that Nicorette used to be locked-up'ed or behind the counter. Now it is out on the shelves where it can be easily shop-lifted. <<<growl>>> Double standard with no spin control by us vapers. <<<<Rusty backs away to think happy thoughts again>>>>
  23. I like the mouse-trap that flings the mouse 50 yards! hehe! MORE POWER!!! lol
  24. Bummer. It is a shame that he didn't put in more effort. He would have really enjoyed getting his sense of smell back. -- Oh well, vape is not for everyone, just 80-90% of all smokers. I would not feel good suggesting this, so I will just state it as somthing that I observed. I know a non-smoker that bought an e-cig setup for his wife. She did not care for it, so they gave it to his mother in law to try. She did not care for it either. However, he explained that he could no longer afford to buy her cigarettes because of the new added taxes. He then told her that he would be glad to buy her all the e-cigs she needed because they are so much cheaper. I don't know all the details, but that was ~4 months ago. I know that she is a happy vaper now. It seemed very cruel at the time, but everyone is happier now. -- YMMV! Of course, this is off topic if you are buying his ciggs with his money. I remember when my Grandpa was 82. Seemed everyone wanted him to quit eating eggs because of his cholesterol. I was of a mind to let him do as he pleased. However, I was just a Grand-kid. I didn't get a vote. lol
  25. This chaps my hide! So tobacco companies are forced to discontinue Flavors, then Njoy voluntarily discontinues Flavors, while GlaxoSmithKline continues merrily on?
