  1. Thanks, Vacker. It does look like a pretty standard mod. I'm looking for an HV mod but when you add up the cash, it's pretty expensive. Think I'll go for a DSE905 and put a couple of CR123s in it.
  2. This looks like a pretty cool HV mod. Does anybody have experience with it? XHALER
  3. I'm definitely looking to go with a hv mod but I can't seem to decide. I was looking at the Chuck because of the lower cost. What do you suggest?
  4. WOW! Lots of info here! From my understanding, and I could be wrong, to get FDA approval for a product, it must undergo clinical trials. I would assume those trials have to meet certian criteria as set forth by FDA regs. Now I think those trials are funded by the companies that make the product thus the fox is guarding the chicken coop. It sure seems that the FDA approve products that kill people every single day. Chantix is one of those products. So I guess since the FDA thinks that PVs come under their egis that they are going to require clinical trials and tons of payolla to allow them to be sold. My question is about analogs and booze. Were they "grandfathered" in? Are they considered "natural" products like food suppliments (vitamins, etc.)? How can they claim nicotine is a drug and caffine is not? I'm so darn confused by all this!
  5. The reason you see so many portable mods with 3.7/6V is the batteries available. For example, the Chuck uses 18650 3.7V which just happens to be the length and width of a 2-CR123 3.0V battery. You can then use 2-CR123s to make 6V. I honestly doubt you would notice much difference between 5V and 6V. Current is the thing that makes the atty hotter. Not to get super techincal but ohms law is: I=E/R where I=current,E=voltage, and R=resistance. The atty has a constant resistence of about 3ohms. So to solve for each of the voltages: 3.7V = 1.23amps 5V = 1.6amps 6V = 2amps As you can see, there isn't much difference between 5 and 6V. It's doubtful that there would be much heat increase with .4amps extra. Which brings out the other question. 510/801 atty. The 510 atty has a lower resistence so the current draw and the heat is greater. That's one of the reasons you can get so much vape out of a smaller coil. The 801 has a larger coil but a slighter higher resistance. From a practicle standpoint, I think the 801 has a much lighter draw than the 510 and it has a greater juice capacity. I switch between them depending on my mood. The best of both worlds is to get an 801 mod and a 510 adapter. Also, AquaVapor is selling a DSE905 that is bored out to accept CR batteries for 6V operation. But I have to admit, it's kind of a "dil" model!
  6. Oddly enough, I didn't have any problems for the first few months but as time has gone by, I crave an analog every once in awhile. If I do, I just have one, it tastes like crap, and I go back to vaping. Don't beat yourself up about it. If you have an analog every once in awhile, it's not the end of the world. I can't imagine I would ever go back to them full time but if I want one, I have one. Oddly, I never crave one while drinking like I use to. Good luck and just take it light. Nothing is the end of the world, except maybe 2012!
  7. Couple of things about checking stuff using a VOM. First, a battery can read the proper amount of voltage and still be a gonner. Under load, they can fail. In other words, they can have the proper voltage without providing enough current so a VOM reading across the + and - terminals isn't going to give you the whole story. Second, an atty should read about 3 ohms which is very small. It's doubtful that a VOM can accurately read that small amount of resistance. Plus, the atty coil can be burned out but not open. What that means is it can burn out on one side and fuse to itself causing a short which might read like it's good. But here's a question I don't know the answer to: do they read higher resistance when they get "cruded up"? I wouldn't think so, but I don't know. It just seems they would have a harder time heating up because of the crud on the coil.
  8. I've been using my VP-PT pretty much non-stop and haven't noticed that it kills attys any faster than a 3.6V unit. If you were using them since October, it's just time to swap them out. I also love to use the 510 with the PT and they work great. But my common sense tells me that since they do get much hotter than the 801 atty, it seems that they would burn out faster. I don't have any facts to back that up but it just makes sense.
  9. OK, here's the run down on anabolic steroids. Not to be confused with cortical steroids that they give you for a rash. Anabolic steroids are prescribe for various reasons: muscle wasting from AIDs, certain hormonal deficiences, etc. That they can be used for performance enhancement is well know and is illegal in certain sports. When an athlete fails the drug test for the olympics, for example, it just means they broke the rules. They are not technically guilty of a real crime. Just breaking the rules. Obviously, possessing a control substance without a prescription is illegal whether it be anabolic steroids or pain pills. So that's where the illegal part comes in. And you certainly cannot sell them without a prescription. So if an athlete fails the drug test and doesn't have a legal prescription for the drug, then I guess technically, they are guilty of a crime but I don't think anybody has ever been charge with that in the past. Testosterone, on the other hand, is a whole different story. Even though it is technically considered a steroid by the, you guess it, FDA, it has a wider range of uses and can be prescribe fairly easily. For example, any of you guys out there that are over 45 have a testosterone level that is considered deficient. It's called hypogonadism. Therefore, you can get your doctor to prescibe a treatment called hormone replacement therapy or HRT. This will boost you back to normal levels and get rid of such nasty issues a low libido and ED. There are a number of other pluses like keeping you from getting type II diabetis, preventing loss of muscle tissue and bone, etc. Basically, you will live a longer, healthier life. They give women HRT but they use estrogen which is what they lack when aging. Right now, HRT is accomplished through injections, patches, or gels. The article was just talking about a new delivery method which would be way cool for us old geezer vapors and might legitamize PVs!
  10. I've always thought it's really the modern life that is killing us. I'm not saying smoking ever was a good idea. Let's face it, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that inhaling smoke from a burning plant isn't really healthy. But after working for RJR, I do know that they add all kinds of things to cigarettes that you wouldn't even believe. And you know why? Because the government made them start putting labels on packs of cigarettes stating the amount of tar and nicotine in each smoke. So they had to do things, like adding nicotine, to make sure they conformed to government standards. Obviously, each crop of tobacco is different so they have to add things to make them consistent. So, once again, we can thank Uncle Sam for screwing us over.
  11. Steroids are not illegal. They are a controlled substance that requires a presciption to purchase. The media makes everyone think they are like heroin or whatever but that's just BS. They are prescription drugs same as Chantix (only a whole lot less dangerous!). It's the same thing they are trying to do with our vaping right now. It must be evil, right?
  12. So does anybody here regularly use a KR? I'm trying to find something that appeals to my wife. She says that 510s and such are too much like smoking a pipe (trouble).
  13. No, not the wacky weed kind! I was talking to my dad last night discussing why every male on his side of the family smoked but never got COPD or lung cancer. My great grandfather lived to 102 and smoked like chimney. What my dad said was that great grandpa rolled his own cigarettes out of PA (Prince Albert for you youngsters). He claimed that the quality of the tobacco was superior to commercial cigarettes and did not have the additives in it. Therefore, it was a "healthier" smoke. My dad always smoked unfiltered Paul Malls which he claims has a superior tobacco and that the Marlboros are just what they sweep up off the floor. He is 71 with no perceivable ill effects. Then you have to consider the content of the filter as well as the type of paper being used. What got me thinking about this is the Snus discussion. Apparently, Snus is very low in carcinogenic compounds and is considered somewhat safe to "chaw" and perhaps even vape. Snus is pasturized leading me to believe that the heating process removes some of the nasties that might cause cancer. So maybe it's the cigarette manufacturing process rather than the tobacco that is the problem. Another piece of this hypothesis is that the lung cancer rates in the US have risen since 1978 (that's as far back as I could find) but the rate of cigarette smoking has decreased significantly (remember when you doctor smoked in his office?). It's kind of interesting to think that analogs might have actually been safer in the past! Thoughts?
  14. OK. Another piece of related trivia. The guitar solo in Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" is actually "Blue Moon". Clapton just loved that song and wove it into the solo. I must have played that solo a million times on the guitar with various bands and never noticed. Duh!
  15. Mine do have a "funky" taste sometimes. More so than the 801s. The bridge seems "thicker" than the 801 bridges if you look at them. I could be wrong but I always though they tended to hold onto the juice and maybe it gets rancid by hanging out down there. Just a theory with no basis in reality I'm sure!
  16. I had never tried one on my VP-PT but I just did. WOW! Excellent choice! They really didn't work that well on the VP2 but they are the absolute best for the Stick. I didn't find the LB from Arno worked that well on the Stick. But they kick on the VP2! I've been picking up the 302 type attys from JantyUSA in the TAWA model for 8.99. So far the quality has been excellent. So I guess we can recommend the 302 types for the VP-PT!
  17. Oh, this is way too cool for words: Inhaling testosterone Seems logical that if the vaporization point is around 120F then why not add it to your juice? Instant roid rage! SWEET!
  18. Halls (and probably most cough drops) use Eucalyptus extract. Puritan's Pride sells a half ounch of the stuff for $5. I figure you can get it at GNC, too. I can't see why you couldn't mix that in your juice since it's an oil. I would go sparingly though! What's in menthol juice?
  19. I think those are the 2 hole atomizers like the Janty Classic. I think they are made by Joye, and even though they are "low bridge", they don't work that great on the VP units. Of course, I'm assuming I'm right about the 302 atty.
  20. This looks like a pretty neat mini. Is it compatible with anything? Like can you put the cartomizer on a 510 battery?
  21. Schizophretard, I wouldn't freak out yet. I know that you can't really reverse COPD but the lungs completely regenerate in 7 years. I don't know if that means anything but it sounds like good news to me. Plus, there are exercises you can do to increase your lung capacity. If you can increase the capacity of the part that still works properly, it stands to reason that you will be much better off. Google breathing exercises and start there. Plus, some cardio wouldn't hurt you either. I was having a hard time breathing awhile back so I went and had a bunch of test run. No COPD (thank God), no asthma, no nothing. When I asked the respiratory doc about it, he just said "the smoking is beating you up". Maybe that's all it is in your case. Keep the faith, keep vaping, and maybe try out that lung juice everybody has been talking about. Couldn't hurt!
  22. Somewhere on here I posted a complete breakdown of how vaping translated to analogs but I can't find it now. Keenan, can you dig it up?
