  1. There is a long list of things that should not be put in the hands of children. Banning them all would be stupid.

Start with A... alcohol , and go down the list.

It seems like they should SOMEDAY figure out bans don't work. Look at Marijuana, for pity's sake, and that's one of the "SAFER" things.

New stuff is scary. I get that. I do.

My mother was afraid of the Microwave oven. Not so much that she thought it could kill her but that she'd break it. LOL. By the time she died I don't think she ever turned on the stove. LOL

It is obvious to me that the smart method would be to test the stuff and regulate it for safety. But there I go again thinking our (or our kids') SAFETY is the real issue. I should really know better.

    Big teenage shoulder sigh.

  2. Carbon rods are just about the most economical and least reactive electrodes you can get for electrochemistry. Platinum is best, but dang if it's expensive.

I haven't ventured too far into electrochemistry, have just plated a few things in copper (which doesn't require carbon electrodes, you can just use copper wire and a nice copper sulphate solution), but they're the best for cheaply making sulphuric acid.

You can make copper sulphate by dissolving copper into sulphuric acid, and reverse the process by making sulphuric acid from copper sulphate. But you'll need carbon or platinum rods to reverse the process. Oddly enough, all these materials can be had very cheaply if you know what you're looking for:

Copper Sulphate - Root Kill (pure solid copper sulphate crystals that you flush down your drain for folks with their own septic system to kill tree roots that get too adventurous and find their way into your septic line). I picked up a 2lb bottle for $10 at Lowes. The crystals are very pretty (and poisonous of course) and you can make some majorly strong copper sulphate solutions just using a little bit of it. The bottle will probably last me a lifetime.

Carbon Rods - The cathode of a carbon zinc battery or carbon gouging welding rods (though 95% of these welding rods will actually be plated in copper and are pretty expensive). I've bought five 6volt lanterns that came with a cheapo carbon zinc lantern battery at Ace Hardware for like $5. The batteries themselves are about $4.

Carbon rods are also good for stirring sticks for folks who melt their own metals, though that's something I've not played with.

Also, since carbon is high on the galvanic series table, it's a great cathode for making your own galvanic batteries. That's something I've only recently been playing with.

Stick a carbon rod and a magnesium fire starter stick into the ground and connect them together with a multimeter and you'll get a voltage potential over 1 volt. Yup, earth batteries (this actually works with any 2 dissimilar metals, but carbon and magnesium are very much polar opposites on the galvanic table, so they produce a high potential difference). I've played around with some earth batteries over the past couple months, but since my backyard isn't very big, I don't have a chance to explore it as much as I'd like :)

.....wow..... from vaping to chemistry.... Ha!

For anyone that's interested in home chemistry, check out "NurdRage" on youtube. He's the best!

I am picturing your yard with rods sticking up everywhere and signs that say "really, I'm NOT crazy just DRAWN this way... watch your step"

That aside, it sounds VERY interesting. More hubby's area than mine. My gray matter managed the potato as a conductor for daughter's elementary science project, but just barely :hrhr:

  3. Now, let me say that we all do stupid things from time to time.

The stupid people I speak of are the ones who do them and don't figure out they are stupid... and repeat same stupid things over and over and over.

You know, like parking in the fire lane as a HABIT hehe.

The really funny ones though, are the ones who are messing up and just don't know it... like the guy who cut my husband off the other day then whipped HIM the bird like hubby did something wrong. LOL Hubby has gotten used to having kids in the back of the van over the years, so he doesn't cuss, he shakes his finger at the person... INDEX finger I might add. I haven't driven in 25 years and I know the traffic laws better than some of these people, go figure.

Very grandfatherly gesture I have to admit LMAO.

  4. My bad, I was all excited to see a 0mg Dulcis so I asked in the store thread. Then I noticed no response and Christopher was absent, so I submitted the order and was pleased to see it was not being fulfilled. Me thinking Christopher was "otherwise occupied". No such luck, my order shipped (sans 0mg Dulcis as there is (currently) no such thing. disappointment on many levels. If there's any justice, birthday will be 3/19, happens to be mine.

Ah another confused fish. Happy Birthday a day early cuz....well just CUZ.

Mine was the 14th. So us confuseded fishies have to stick together. Or something...

    er...

    fade to black

  5. Pfffft! Let's not even start comparing hermit notes here ladies. I'll make you look like a coupla girls. You prolly don't even know what 'hermit' means; but I'm its definition. To the core. Put me on the top of a mountain with nobody else on the continent (with a lot of ice cream) and I'd be in heaven. It's all the people that make this planet so crowded.

At least most of the good ones have found VT. ;)

I adore people... just...ya know..... not right on top of me. And stupid people irritate me. I've figured out why we have so many of them these days too.

Labels. And seatbelt laws. And motorcycle helmets. :harhar:

  6. That even makes the SB tempting for me! I just worry about the size. Although...I do have my eGo that I love and could use that when I needed to lug it around in a pocket. Hmmm... Uma, why did you start this? :dribble:

Uma is trying to tempt us all!!!!! We're going to hell! Oh wait no, just broke. whew, scared myself for a minute LOL

  7. hey, I was just joking about it... in light of Rays post "WATCH THE ROAD"...and the posts that followed.... (yours and Daves)...

just trying to be funny.... don't take it wrong!

Here, have a beer, it's on the house!

Never got into an accident, but man my hands hated me LMAO

OOOOh beer. Sorry, I don't drink and drive. Oh wait.. I don't drive.. GIMME :harhar:

  8. Cool!! Bring a few limes with ya, I'm fresh out and hubby won't let me near the car since he read TeriJoes post on my commute thread.

ummmmmmm Ooooooooooops? Sorry. Well Uma, tell the hubby of yours that I don't drive. I don't have a license. That would be why MY hubby would tell me that. LOL

I drove for a while. I decided stressed out Teri should NOT be on the road. When you have to spend 5 minutes unclamping your hand from the steering wheel, it is a clue you should let someone else drive.

  9. That's exactly what people call me, TeriJo. Except on this forum. LOL

Well, believe it or not I don't run around talking 24/7 non stop. I don't. I chat on this forum and all, and when I'm on mic I sing, and yammer between songs. But ya know, hubby has never had to duct tape my mouth shut, go figure.

I'm not shy, either though. If I think of something funny to say, I'll say it to a complete stranger, I don't care. LOL Although I do have to be careful, thought one poor lady was gonna die before my eyes at the Chinese buffet.

The little taped up sign said "Honey Chicken". All I said was that it was backwards, it should say "Chicken, Honey" because that's the answer to the question asked by husbands worldwide "What's for dinner?"

I thought it a cute lil twist, but it struck her very funny. So, no more funny comments in the food line. I don't wish to become a murderer LMAO

  10. Underground, yep. It would totally suck having to do it, but not as much as going back to being short of breath and hacking all the time.

I'd have to have hubby get all solder happy, but he'd do it, he wuvses me. The attys, just seems like there should be a way to make them if pushed, and I bet folks would figure it out.

I'd much prefer they get some good studies done and hopefully they say vaping rocks and then the ole FDA and crew caint kill us. A lovely dream I have.

  11. ha ha well it finally shipped out :D

I suppose on a positive note I FINALLY got the baby room painted. We just moved some of the furniture upstairs. Once everything is done I'll post some before and after pictures. (Talk about last minute!)

I am so picturing a fast forward baby room painting party. What puts these things in my head, I ask you?

Looks at the belly. OKAY baby, you can come out and play!!!!!!!

    LOL

  12. Thanks to everyone who replied with good suggestions and comments. Everyone can rest easy, I saw my E.N.T. doc today because another issue developed yesterday after posting on the forum. I noticed a sizable bump under my tongue and some swelling under my chin (upper neck area). I panicked, called his office and they had a cancellation for this AM and I was able to get in to be seen first thing this morning.

The bump under my tongue is actually a stone in my salivary gland (the gland under the tongue between the chin and Adams apple). He said salivary gland stones usually occur when saliva production is decreased which can also cause canker sores and why my inner lip is chapped (red). Apparently this is very common and after Googling it later today I confirmed that. He told me not to worry a thing about it. His instructions were to drink lots of water, massage the neck/chin area and suck on sour candy. Sour candy stimulates the salivary gland and with extra fluids and massage the stone should dissolve on its own. Moisture from drinking extra fluids (specifically water) will also help with the canker sores and chapped inner lip.

He did ask if I was on any medications or anything that would cause me cotton or dry mouth. Of course I told him about vaping & e-cigs and that I had notice my mouth does become dry at times while or after vaping. He was familiar with e-cigs and was thrilled I had an alternative and had quit smoking "those nasty tobacco cigarettes" (in his words). He had NO problem with me vaping. However, he did say it is important for me, especially, to keep my mouth extra hydrated. He also said the salivary gland stones take months to form and I have only been vaping approx 6-8 weeks. He said vaping e-cigs was NOT the cause of any of this going on in my mouth or the development of the stone.

I know some of you were concerned and as I was and I hate to be so wordy but felt some of you would want the details. Its all good :wine:

I'm so glad!!!! I drink a lot of water while singing, and I have false teeth, so between the two I do okay. I have butterscotch candies, didn't know about the sour. But they do get the vape taste out of my mouth when I try a flavor I find ICKY :dribble:

  13. I've never been much on forums actually. I realize it's hard to believe, but as a general rule they bore me. All arguments and stuff. No matter WHAT the forum is supposed to be about LOL.

Chris has a great paddle OR they stick to IM with it, or we just get along ridiculously well. Whatever it is keep up the good work ya'll!!!!!!!!

  14. Wooooohoooo! Congrats on your Tornado! I'm another eGo (tornado is same thing) fan here on the board.

hehe,... I'm bad about using those blasted dots too but....

TJ, I hate those RLS nights too. Mine were the worst after my broken knee healed. Crazy legs. But I've noticed a huge improvement since vaping too, like you. Ain't this a wonderful life. :)

except now I'm into the bleeding gums stage lol. But that too shall pass. (blood is flowing again, it's thinned, I'm healing! Should be done with it in a week or two).

Never broke a bone, go figure. Bones are the healthy part on me. I almost feel like I should climb a tree, cept even healthy a fall would friggin HURT at 47 lol.

It's interesting all the things that are changing that I never gave much thought to, like the legs. I just thought like Mother like daughter. I was underweight until a few years ago, I knew if I quit smoking I might gain some, but our family has a pretty darn high metabilism as it is.

When I started vaping I was 110 - 115, just getting into the range of healthy, now I'm 120-125 - couple pounds more and I'd hit the overweight end of the chart. That would be a first. LOL

I love my Ego for the battery life, and it's good looking, but the 901 was a great one to start on. It got me down to these 3 cigarettes fast. I simply discovered that when I got stressed I went through batteries way fast. With the Ego when I'm cussing a computer and pacing and vaping, the batteries keep up. I go through them faster than when I'm mellow of course, but I don't go through three before any are charged. Even with 2 chargers going, forget about it. LOL

So the Tornado /Ego Rocks. There I'm back on topic. I'm proud of me! lol

  15. So now I'm a temporary member of the Census Bureau (Please don't flame me :harhar: )

I'm not the door knocker type so I'll be the guy at the (Questionaire Assistance Center)

that is there for folks to come to who want help filling out their forms.

Needless to say I brought my PV's and made sure to ask if it was o.k to vape.

I wound up introducing the class and instructors to e-cigs :animier:

We may have more new members soon because all the smokers and a couple of non smokers

with friends and family who smoke, all wanted more info. Most had heard of PV's but

only through the mall and tobacco stores and yall know about their products

    and prices.

The 1st thing I did was make sure they all wrote down vaportalk.com

then I mentioned a few suppliers with good reps.and told them how great the

prices were online compared to the mall stuff :innocent:

Heres hopin we get a fresh wave of recruits real soon.

Yeah got our census in the mail. Old Censuses have helped me in the ole family tree search, so why would I diss ya dude? hehe. Although there is so much paperwork on each person NOW I don't quite know that they learn anything NEW. I mean these days you have to SSN your kids before they are out of diapers. LOL

I talked to a few folks the other day in the smoking area when we were doing the jury selection thang too. :)

  16. Terijo, when is the last time you saw a DR. What you are talking about with your legs could be symptoms of peripheral vascular disease (common in smokers). So if you haven't talked to a DR about this see one before your toes start to rot,or you form a clot and have a stroke or a heart attack.Tell him nurse seaspine said you need a ultrasound of your legs.

Well sea, if I had the money to do that I would.

However, I think it IS related to the smoking (whether or not it is vascular disease) simply because it has stopped. Now this happened all the time PARTLY because I STILL haven't learned to sit properly LOL I STILL cross my legs or tuck a leg under me when I'm sitting down.

In the last month I've not had my legs go to sleep once. Jeez this keeps up I'm going to get YOUNGER. Wouldn't THAT mess with my kids' heads LOL.

I also haven't had any RLS episodes in a month either. I usually have those any time I allow myself to get over tired or have to sit for extended periods. I expected to have an RLS night Monday night after having to sit on those court benches all day for jury selection, but nope, all was well, I slept like a rock. Perhaps it is all related, I don't know. My RLS was a light form, usually pacing about for a while and some kneebends would get rid of the twitchy feeling.

My mother had it as well, much worse. They said it was hardening of the arteries. Whatever it was I'm sure her chainsmoking didn't help. She did die young, but not of stroke or heart attack.

My legs are a much better color these days too, so my theory is gettin the crap outta my system has increased my circulation. I've been smoking since I was nine years old, the going to sleep thing started while I was in the Navy. The doctors didn't seem concerned about it at the time, but that was 25 years ago.

Now that I've notice my legs aren't going to sleep on me all the time, I'll try and monitor it more closely, just to see.

    Teri

  17. I'm thinking that both Mark and Dave owe us a review on their new toys. What do you think guys? Hmmm?

I've got parts for making box mods (from madvapes also), but had never considered a double barrel mod. I'm not sure I like the idea. Yet.

Yeah the whole double barrel thing, well, just makes me think shotgun. It's generally considered bad form to put the business end of a shotgun in your mouth, right? lol

  18. I should have added not to stress about it either. Think about it, only having a couple a day is a HUGE accomplishment for most smokers.

It really IS huge. I mean I started the ecig after trying to wean myself off it.... the timed smoking thing....and the least I got down to was 15 a day, and THAT was killing me LOL

at 3 a day, I have seen amazing results. The cough is gone, I'm breathing deeply for the first time in years. I've also noticed that my legs don't fall asleep constantly all the time.

Nicotine is supposed to constrict the blood vessels, so I didn't expect THAT to get better, since I'm still taking in nicotine. But either it is less than with the cigarettes or some of the other crap was doing it more. Whatever it is,, it's nice not to have to stand by my chair for 5 minutes before walking ..... or like I normally did drag my foot behind me like an idiot!

So believe me, even at 3 a day, your health will get much better

  19. Yup im still having that morning cig because it really helps me wake up and after dinner. Vaping has not been able to curve the morning and after dinner fix. lol Hopefully soon it will be no more cigs for me !!!

Mostly it's the morning cig. The rest I've mostly gotten the triggers off of. I think the rest I may need like a boost. So I think today I'm gonna get a cartridge ready with the 36mg and try vaping that when I decide I need an analog and see if that helps. I don't want to boost myself completely up to 36 when 24 seems to be fine. 18 was actually fine - went to 24 to try and get rid of that 3 analogs a day lol. So I think I'll slowly work my way back down to 18 for the normal daily thang.

Got my order of menthol in from awesome....and my sample of cappacino.... plan to try that a lil later in the day. :))
