  1. Thank you for this!! My emails are sent including my credentials as a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience, and 35 years of trying to quit smoking that were unsuccessful until I started vaping.

Please please please everybody! Make your voice heard and take 5 minutes to send emails.

OMG, Nanna, you sound like me! I had 35 years as a smoker, trying to quit for at least 30 of those years.

I am now on year 2 of tobacco-free thanks to the ecig. I have actually not even been vaping lately, and

I am ever so thankful for the invention and availability of the electronic cigarette. So, thanks to this,

I have truly managed to quit smoking. I know that I can pick up my ecig at any time, but now I can

choose not to do so, which was totally impossible with tobacco! This reason alone should be why

the ecig should be promoted rather than banned! (Tennessee is a tobacco state, btw.)

  2. As a 35 year smoker (Marlboro Lights)...and a "closet" smoker at that!...I had struggled to quit most of that time, especially as I got older.

Having tried every quit device: patches (several times), Chantix (made me insane), cold turkey, and gum (the worst), I bought myself a Joye 510 last December '09. From the first puff, I no longer wanted to inhale tobacco smoke. My intention was to use the ecig as a quit device, cutting down on the nicotine content gradually, which I did. Along the way, at some point I ran out of the low nicotine juice and used the high again, finding that it was no more addictive than the low/no nicotine. So, with ANY level of the nicotine juice, I've found it is not addictive...that is, I can take it or leave it, can go for days, weeks, without picking up the ecig. This is something I could never have done with tobacco. So, yes, I do still vape the ecig, but only for pleasure, when I choose to do so, but nothing like when I was addicted to cigarettes. I've told my smoking friends about this, and they don't seem to get it! I did convert one teacher/coworker at my school. He ordered the Janty Ego which I also have purchased, and which is even more satisfactory than the Joye 510.

I used to have to leave my job at lunch time to drive around the block for a smoke. Also rush out of school at the end of the day to smoke on the way home. I don't even have the ecig with me during the day now, and have no need to rush home to vape. It is great to be free of this kind of behavior. I used to avoid taking trips with nonsmoking friends because of my need to smoke. Now I can go along with them with no withdrawal effects, and not miss the ecig either! This is great, and a wonderful freedom after years of being enslaved to tobacco. I really feel, from this experience, that the tobacco companies are putting something extra addictive in their products, and this is the reason people have such a hard time trying to quit.

I've posted about this subject a while ago, but just wanted to update and share.

  3. I just rec'd my new Janty Ego kit yesterday. I had been using the Joye 510 since Jan '09, and since I was having to buy replacement parts, I decided to try the Ego after reading this thread and the one review here in the store. It's great, and it does have better vapor production than the 510, which was good. I recommend this model!

  4. Well I am new to Vaping and new to Vaping forums, and I must say, writing down here and seeing the statistics that I am a 30+ year smoker, true that its been on and off but still. I have never seen myself write that, and its harsh and disturbing. And yeah how did I get this old, lol!

I have only have my Vapor for a 2 weeks or so, but this is it, I'm done with the real thing. Reading what I wrote here, about the length of my habit, seals the deal....I hope.

in the past, in many stressful times of my life, the first thing I would do is buy cigarettes! I would walk run pay someone to get them for me, anything to get a hold of some. It really is a sickness....or lets say addiction.

But the strange thing is, I could go months without one, until I am triggered. And then its smoke-out time!

Thanks for listening to me, ramble on, good song verse by the way.

Yes..."harsh and disturbing" is right! I felt that also as I acknowledged here I have been a 35 year smoker. I got my ecig kit back in Dec '09, and came here to ask questions. People here are very helpful and encouraging.

I've also discovered that the ecig is not nearly as "addictive" as tobacco (analogs). I conclude from this, that though harsh and disturbing to realize, we smokers have been subject to a conspiracy by tobacco companies to keep us addicted. I truly feel, after a lifetime of struggle to "quit" that there is something extra/addictive added to tobacco to keep us coming back for more, and to defeat any attempt to quit. I hope you find, as I have, that the ecig is not nearly so addictive. It has given me freedom to choose. I can let it go for days if I choose to .... and this, coming from someone who could NEVER have done this with tobacco.

  5. This is a great thread!

LOL, I just gave a "testimonial" to the two people behind the cash registers at the local convenience store. I even brought my ecig in to show them and made them each take a puff. (Sometimes I'm a bit too enthusiastic, LOL! )

But you are right...people have to want to experience the ecig. And, like many of us here, take the initiative to learn about it.

  6. I think it's interesting that we're talking about this, because I noticed it as well. When I get up in the morning, I say "Hmmm, I think I may vape a bit to start off the day." Before, it was like "CIGARETTE. NOW." If I go without vaping for a while, I do miss it a bit, but I am not snapping at everyone. I definitely agree with Patty that nicotine is NOT the only addictive thing in cigarettes.

    In any case, congratulations!

At the start of my introduction to ecigs, I joined here to ask some serious questions about addiction, since, as I revealed at that time, I think of myself as having an "addictive" personality. I was concerned about trading one addiction for another. Despite this concern, I believed then, and I'm certain now, that vaping is exponentially healthier than inhaling tobacco. And...add to that...the lightening of the addictive behavior. This morning, for instance, I forgot the ecig as I started on my morning drive to work. This happens most mornings, and then I go all day teaching without any ill effects. Sometimes when I come home, I take a few puffs, sometimes more, sometimes none! I do this because it's pleasurable, not so much because I have no choice (as was the case with tobacco!). I used to wake up in the morning and go directly to the garage to smoke...then take breaks while getting ready for work, then make sure I had cigs for my drive to work and then for the drive home. Also taking a drive midday during my lunch break for a smoke! Then...arriving home, I was a smoking machine, LOL! I have struggled with this behavior for over 30 years, and thus labeled myself an "addictive" personality. I conclude now, from my exp with the ecig, that the addictive culprit is in tobacco, and my struggle and failure to quit was not so much due to my own weaknesses, but to the insidious additives that keep us hooked!

The people who want to ban the ecig are most likely nonsmokers, or exsmokers. I'm guessing there is also a powerful money lobby for banning it from the tobacco companies.

  7. Welcome back...great story with a great outcome. I'm not where you are with the no nic or being able to go weeks or even days with out my e-cig.

After 40+ years of smoking I doubt that I will ever get to that point. My e-cig has just replaced my analogs but it's still better than it was.

I keep it next to the bed and just like when I was smoking I reach for it and take a hit when I get up. But I do enjoy the flavor a whole lot more than I ever did cigarettes. Old habits are hard to break I guess. But with the encouragement of the folks here at VT I'm off analogs and I feel so much better for it. So congrats on your success and keep letting us know how you're doing.

    Good luck and happy vaping.

p.s. Why does it say WVfem, your name is Patty, but the disscription says male??

Oh...my name is Patty, and on other forums, I've grown accustomed to signing my real name. WVfem is just a user name, as I am female...will check my profile to correct it.

About the ecig, I do enjoy it, and my decision to go without it for two weeks was due to a shortness of breath which I attributed to the ecig. Since then, and since resuming the ecig, I've concluded that the shortness of breath was more akin to anxiety just as when I would try to quit smoking tobacco. I had experienced this many times over the years in attempts to quit. Which leads me to my conclusion that there really IS an extra something addictive in tobacco products that makes quitting virtually impossible. No doubt, this is one major reason the tobacco companies would want to see the ecig banned.

Thanks to all of you for your supportive comments!

  8. Hi, I haven't posted here since my initial questions last Dec. '09 upon purchasing my first "kit" of the ecig.

I'm a 35 year smoker, and honestly during most of that time, I was struggling to quit. Have tried everything, from over the counter to prescription. Must add here that the prescription med (can't think of the name of it...sorry)...made me insane with anxiety!

Anyway...I purchased the ecig kit and, from the first puff, I did not want to inhale tobacco. I've been enjoying the ecig now since Dec. 09, but I am able to ignore it for long periods...like weeks!...if I choose to do so. This is something I could never have done while smoking tobacco. While addicted to tobacco (Marlboro Lights), I would wake up anticipating that first cigarette. I do no such thing with the ecig, and really forget it on all mornings. I only take a puff on the ecig for enjoyment, but it is not an addiction as was tobacco! This leads me to conclude that the tobacco companies enhance the cigarette with an extra something that is addictive! I say this only as an addict myself and my 35 year struggle.

I wish that those trying to ban the ecig only knew this truth!

  9. I've had my 510 working now for about 24 hours. The taste of the ecig is much cleaner and more pleasant than analog cigs.

I also put all my smoking stuff away : ashtray, lighter, and the little fan I had in the garage window (where I went to smoke). From habit, the idea of smoking has come up a couple of times today, and then I remembered, "Oh, wait...I have the ecig!" I've also had a lot more energy and motivation today, and this is just day 1~!

  10. 5 degrees? LOL. No one in a civilized society should ever have to put up with that!!! MOVE!!!!! Just kidding, I knew people from Rochester Minnesota. Badge of honor. Made fun of the people from the NE. Would move there and keep the house temp at 72. Walk outside at -20 and pass right out. Hopefully someone would run across them before they froze to death.

Anyway, I know this ain't the lounge, but couldn't resist. Sorry WVFem.

LOL, FTJoe...I enjoy hearing your comments. It was actually warmer here today, and we've had no snow accumulation. My packages haven't arrived, and, seeing the posts in this thread about all the bad weather and snow pics, I feel lucky.

  11. I just looked at Jonnoh's thread entitled, "Is this true," asking about various countries banning the ecig. I'm concerned about this too, and I did a search online of this subject, finding many entries of areas/states in the USA proposing a ban of this product. Quite honestly, I do look for some sort of strict regulation, if not total banning. That said, as a smoker of 35 years, who has "quit" several times, I'm so grateful to have found this product. I haven't received my Joye 510 starter kit yet, but it's on its way. In the meantime, I'm doing lots of research and asking lots of questions. I ordered a charger, and also went to the Johnson Creek website and ordered some juice in various nicotine strenghts, with which I hope to taper down to zero nic. Yes...I hope to use it as a "stop smoking" device.

  12. Definitely use this forum as a "support group". You'll find that the genuine enthusiasm here is infectious.

    Welcome to the forum!

Thank you ALL so much for your informative and kind replies! It may be a week or so before I receive my order, but in the meantime, it is very beneficial to hear your responses. I'm going to go to the thread where we introduce ourselves and post there as well.

  13. I'm glad to find this forum. I've smoked for 35 years, "quit" many times, LOL , and so I did some research today and dove into ordering this thing. I know nothing about how it works. Is this a "healthier" alternative to smoking? Just another form of "addiction?" Or...a valid means to eventually quitting smoking altogether? Regardless, it sounds better than the cigarettes, but I look forward to feedback.
