  1. I do have another spreadsheet for battery life, but I did it a while back. I'll pull it up and see about your question. Maybe I'll upload it. I haven't seen much on the 901. I'm sure I can find out what the HV 901 are, but don't know what the ohm on a regular 901 is. Can you test the ohms and let me know? I don't have a 901.

Tech school at Lowry? I went to tech school at Goofellow AFB in Sanangelo, TX (1989).

McQuinn - learned all that on the net over the past few weeks, but certainly can't remember it. I have to look it up everytime I try to do a calc! :unworthy:

did you dry your attys all the way before testing the ohms? both of mine are wet, not sure if that's going to affect the reading. I'll give it a shot.

  2. I've just printed that up and put a copy of it in my Vaping tackle box. Thanks, mcquinn for taking me back to 1993 when I first went through fundamental electronics at tech school at Lowry AFB in Denver, Colorado! That base was closed about two years later, but you still brought back good memories!

Brian, any info on 901 attys? So, 11 watts for 5 volts with a 510 atty. I heard Cisco talking about that once on Vaporcast. That's probably that "sweetspot" for vapor production that everyone has been talking about.

What about battery life? How do I put this to question? Ummmmm, Ceteris paribus, would the battery life be less or more with the combination of a high volt atty on a high voltage device when compared to a low volt atty with a high volt device? I assume that answer would parallel the comparison of a low voltage device. Thoughts?

  3. Hi again Yall,

I'm really wondering how to tell when the Li-Ion batts need charging if your PV

doesn't have the low batt indicator LED.The reasons I bought the DSE-905 as my

first big batt PV were 1st:price 2nd:low batt warning, and 3rd:inexpensive long life

    protected 14500 batts.(I really like these 14500's)

So far I like the 905 but I've been drooling over the PV2 and the Spade and hoping

they come out with a Spade2(with 14500's). So do they have low batt warnings or do the LED's just light up when you're vaping?I can't find anything that says one way or the other. I definitely want to stick with protected batts since I'm such a noob.

As an after thought what's your opinion on the best atty's for flavor?

I'm not as interested in vapor clouds as I am flavor(so far):D

Not sure if you're asking about your own DSE-905 or how the Spade or VP2 idicates a low battery. With my VP2, if the battery is completely dead, the LEDs just don't light up and no sizzle, no vapor. I am a heavy vaper, I mean this thing is like a pacifier to me, and at about the 3rd or 4th hour (for example, I'm at my computer doing school work, or writing paper, and constantly using it; 3 drops, about 3 or 4 hits, put it down, 2 or 3 minutes pass, 3 more hits then 1 more drop, 2 more hits then put it down, 5 minutes pass, 2 drops, about 5 or 6 hits, put it down, 4 minutes...you sorta see the routine) the vapor drops significantly but the LED are still lighting-i change the battery. If I were to use it like a regular analog and take 10 drags every hour, ummm i think it would last like a day and a half on one battery to the point where I WOULD want to change it out anyways.

When I'm not at my desk, and moving around, I pick it up only when I think about it and take a few vapes off it. I don't take a smoke break anymore because, well, I don't have to. Many times I don't even inhale-I think it's just the HABIT, and as much as I always hated the smell, hated the taste, hated everything about smoking I couldn't quit. It took 18 years of smoking those nasty analogs for this godsent device to appear. Bah, I'm rambling.

I bought an old 901 kit from a friend who gave up on it for 20 bucks. I'm using his old 901 attys from like a year ago. They work fine. I like it because the vapor is not as warm, and, to me, the flavor comes out more. Last night I switched back to my 510s and after about 30 minutes and 4 different flavors, I went back to the 901 to see if it was just my imagination. I've switched, for now. Just my observations...

  4. Hello all, I just purchased a 510 with a usb pt. I have a car usb adapter that i was going to use while driving to save on battery charging. The pt works fine with my computer but using the adapter it just blinks upon pressing the button. Do I need to purchase a new adapter? It works to charge an ipod. Not getting the right voltage? Thanks

    haft2doit,

It appears you may be having the same issues as I do with that 510 passthrough.

I don't know how to put the link up here, but you might want to go to the "Help, It Broke" subforum and look for the thread titled the "Finicky Five-Ten Passthrough" I believe it's the model as yours, and mine won't work in the car either. I have a fix in the works. As soon as I receive the part in the mail, I'll add a follow up post and let everyone know if it fixed my problem.

  5. The 801 to 901 adapter will work with the KR808D-1 carto's. I've used some cartomizers on my VP2 with that adapter. Personally, they didn't work well for me. I've used them on my VP2 and on the regular KR batts. I tend to get juiced a lot. I was using them when driving, but gave it up.

Having said that, I know some people really like them, so it's certainly worth trying. Blanks are pretty cheap.

That's the solution I was looking for, something to use while driving. I'm going to re-visit this idea on payday! Thanks for all the advice/ responses. I've learned so much from all your expert opinions!

  6. Dave, I have two 801 to 901 adapters. I use one for the VP/PT and one for my regular 801 batteries. It has worked out really nice to have two of them. I have been considering buying one of the VP1 or VP2 units and I will also purchase another 510 adapter. I think multiples are a good idea.

can't go wrong with a VP2 unless you can't get over the fact that it's about as thick as a dime and weighs 2.6 ounces. If that's the case, go with a VP1. My two cents.

  7. I noticed the flavors seem rougher or / stronger on the 510 atty. I can't STAND ry4 on the 510 but I luv it on the 901.

Even my banana seems less sweet on the 510, so I think what you are talking about. In my case, I've gone from the 901 kit to an Ego, so I don't have any adapters to test the theory. (scratches that down on shopping list)

    INNNNNNNTERESTING...

That's it! You've called it! The 510 seems rougher/stronger. It does that to Dulcis (i've heard is is like RY4) and Midnight. I didn't know this until I used a 901. Now I wanna try the 801 and see what it does.......That will be on my shopping list for the 15th!

Thanks, and buy the way, I love the way you write! I can "hear" you in your words! Especially when you rant and rave. It's so cool!

  8. So far I've been looking for multiple style adaptors to get more experiences with

the same mod.that way I can go from big vapor to big taste etc..

since taste is said to be different with the same juice in different attys

and at diff.volts and vapor is said to be better with some than others I want to

try them all!! That way sooner or later I can settle on what I like best and still

be able to change up for variety every once in a while.

So far I'm more interested in good taste than anything else but once in a while

I start craving the TH more. That's not much of a problem right now cause all

my juice is 24mg.Although I did notice that tobacco flavors give me better TH

    than the sweet flavors.

And also, thank you Dave for gettin my post over to where it might help.

I've done a lot of reading but don't have the experience yet so I'll try to point

folks to where I found the info.

I totally see what you mean! There are so many different variables out there that I'm trying to formulate my own constants.

My half-broken 510 passthrough (see "the finiky 510 pt") gives me constant 4.6 volts (wish it were 5) so I can see what my juices taste like a higher voltage. I might get a 3.6 cheapy passthrough to get the same consistency. Im thinking about this all the time because I notice that even with the same atomizer, a single juice's taste will change as a battery runs down, it's not that much of a difference, but it's there.

  9. From what I've been able to find, the kr8 cartos will work with 901 auto batts

but not with 901 manual batts.(no airflow).Seems that what you need for the cartos

to work on 901 manual style is an 808 adapter that has air holes.

I'm not familiar with the VP's but if they have sealed batt to atty connectors

then you'll probly need an 801 to 808d-1/901 adapter that has the air holes.

Or you can mod the 901 adapter with a dremel to make the air flow notches.

(just dremel a tiny groove across the batt side straight from outer edge across

center pin to opposite edge)Or you can try the staple mod to get the air flow on

    a 901 manual batt.

Hope I was clear enough.I know what I'm sayin just don't know if I said it right

Hmmmmm. from what you just said, I may not need another 901 to 808 adapter with a hole, because my 801 to 910 adapter already has a hole....

Like I said earlier, two adapters together seems silly. Thanks for the info!

  10. Aw. Shucks. unworthy.gif

Tektronik, I may be way off base here but I'm pretty sure that I've read that KR808 and 901 are the same base. If that's true, then your 801 - 901 adaptor should do the trick. I'm sorry that I don't have a 901 to be certain however. Hopefully someone who actually knows what they're talking about will chime in here. ;)

A little off topic but I've been feeling that I want more than one adaptor for each combination. That is, I use 801 - 510 but only have one adaptor. Yet there have been plenty of times I wished I had at least two so I could use, for example, 510s on both my devices (VP2 and VP PT). Am I the only one who wants multiple adaptors of the same purpose? Just curious, really.

You're not the only one. Before I bought my VP2, I did a lot of reading. I was looking for a PV at 3.7 volts that would let me do the same thing you are trying to do. I ordered mine with just the 510 adapter. My last order from Vaprlife included a 901 adapter. My frind was selling his OEM 901, so I am using his attys. There's definitely a difference between 510 and 901 attys. I can't yet pinpoint the description, but there's something different. Maybe it feels like the 901 is a slightly cooler vape. I know that Midnight and Dulcis (less than 5mL left now!) both taste different on the same voltage but different attys. I've been suing 510s from the start, but now I think I'm preferring the sweeter flavors on the 901, and the tobaccos on the 510. I also notice that the 901 attys does not flood as easily, but that may just be me getting better at regulating drips. Each paycheck, I order more stuff. maybe this time it will be two 801 attys.

Back to my KR808 quandary; Since you have a VP2, you probably notice that the 901 adapter (I got mine from Vaprlife) already has a hole in the side. Putting a 901 atty-which also has a hole- gives you two holes for airflow. Curious, but if you say that the KR808 carto is already mate-able with the 901 adapter for our VP2, then it would work, but at a reduced airflow due to only one hole? Bah, I'm just gonna get the darn things and see for myself. Was hoping that someone here has already used an 808 with their VP2. Thanks for your advice.

  11. Tektronik, if I'm understanding all this stuff (which is doubtful) you *may* be ready to use cartomizers on your VP2. I don't have a VP2 of course, but looking at VaprLife's website, looks like it comes standard with an 801 thread, and you already have an 801 to 901 adapter, and according to madvape's website, the 501 adapter that I'm after is a 501 to 901/808 cartomizer adapter (which suggests the 901 and 808 share the same thread pitch).

So in theory, with your 801 to 901 you should be good.

    Anyone else care to verify?

EDIT: Take a look here: http://www.e-cigarette-wiki.com/index.php?title=Brand_and_Model_Compatibility_Chart

I'm too tired to digest that nasty beast of a chart right now. Maybe tomorrow :)

Yeah, I see what you mean, but I have a feeling there might be something more to it. I remember seeing somewhere-i can't remember where- that even though the thread pitch is the same, and the 901 atty has a female end, i can't know for sure without actually seeing a KR808D cartomizer up close. I think somewhere someone mentioned something about the draw being a little stiff. I think there might be an adapter so the 808 will fit on a 901, but for me that would be like having an adapter for an adapter for the 808! Two adapters at the same time?

I might just have to break down and buy some empty 808 cartomizers just to please my curiousity.

  12. I got two of those passthroughs on the same day from the same place. One works on the computer, on the adapter in the car, on the wall adapters...and works well. The other one does like you said yours does...only on the computer and not on any of the other things. I'm guessing the one passthrough isn't such a good one. It happens. I just use that one only on the computer and use the other one anywhere I want.

Perhaps you can exchange your passthrough.

Thanks Nana, for sharing your experiences. I don't feel I need to exchange it. It's only 15 bucks and it still works. I intended to get this one to hold me over until I they make more of those VP-PTs, and I guess I expected too much for a cheap chinese model. My friend down in florida got one and his works in both configurations like one of yours does. One thing I really like about the passthrough is the consistency. I guess I'll leave it hooked up to my computer for now, until it decides to finally quit on me. I've been very satisfied with Jason at Electro Nic Stix and I don't want to be a bother over 15 bucks. Up to now, I'm torn between getting a better passthrough and a Joker when it comes out. I'll be able to get either one, but not both.

  13. Now that Brandon got his answer, would someone care to help me figure out how I can use a cartomizer on my VP2?

I now have both adapters: the 801-to-901, and the 801-to-510.

Is the KR808D-1 cartomizer larger than the KR-510 that Brandon is looking for?

More importantly, How can I attach it to my VP2? Is there another adapter that I'm going to need?

  14. Is this the passthrough wiith or without the battery?I would get a hold of Jason at ElectroNicstix and see what he says ,chances are he will replace it, as he is one fine individual. If it is one without battery you just might not have a strong enough power supply it should be 1,000 mAh which equals 1 amp or larger if you have one of the 400 mAh chargers I would guess it is not delivering the required power. The ones with the batteries will usually work ok on the 400 mAh chargers after the battery gets fully charged.

This is the Passthrough without the battery. It won't work properly with my iPod charger, which is 5 volts, 1000Mah. The Other wall adapter was what I ordered from Vaprlife, it's the same one that is used by the VP-PT, I figured it would work for this little 510 pt, but I was wrong.

  15. This 510 passthrough I got from Electronicstix.com is wierd.

It works fine when attached to my computer's USB. It works fine when attached to my computer at work. It doesn't like wall adapters anymore.

When I first got it, I was able to use my iPod wall adapter with it. The white iPod adapter outputs 5 volts with 1 amp. For some strange reason it doesn't like it anymore.

I ordered a wall adapter from vaprlife, thinking that it would work because that particular one outputs 5 volts at 2 amps. I got it in the mail today, and guess what? the PT doesn't like it either! I plug it back into the computer and it works fine.

With a multimeter and measurements taken at the battery contacts:

    Computer usb= 4.68 volts

Wall adapter from vaprlife= 5.06 volts

Normal operation (observed): When you first plug it in to the comp. usb, the LED flashes five times, when you press the button, the led illuminates. There's a 5 second timoeut (flashes 5 times)if you hold the button too long. Sometimes, when you first plug it in, the LED stays lit, and it doesn't work. disconnect and re-connect until it works.

Plug into the wall, and something totally different happens: If you plug the adapter into the wall first, then connect the usb cables together, the LED stays lit and won't work. If you were to connect the pt to the wall adapter first and then plug it into the wall, the LED flashes 5 times, BUT when you press the button it flashes 5 times again, and does not light the atomizer. Now, if you were to take the atomizer off the PT and press the button, the led stays lit as if its working. re-attach the atomizer, press the button, and again with the 5 flashes.

I'm an avionics technician by trade. I've been troubleshooting electronics for years. I wish I knew what the flashes mean, it might help, but the atomizer does not come with instructions or error codes.

Am I missing something here? I hope I was as clear as possible in my observations. Please let me know if I need to clarify. Can anyone see something I'm not? Please help folks!!

  16. Wow, that ECF forum is crazy! There's like thousands of people on it, all with something to say. After reading that thread, I took off the battery cap and blew through my VP2 as well. If pressure were to build up, I'm sure it would come through those holes in the top, and possibly blow out the bottom cap because the threads are thin. While it all seems like the safety features are all in place, it's still a shaped charge. At least I now know where not to put my fingers in case something like this happens and throw it like a grenade at the first clue of venting.

This makes me consider not using a mod or carrying it with me when I'm on a plane. That's all we need is some really bad press about a PV going off while travelling across the country. I'll probably carry just an OEM with me when I'm travelling.

I just bought a Spade and sent it to my father in law in California. Brian's observation about it being very well vented has put me at ease, thanks for that. Is the Prodigy V2 vented as well? What about that Silver Bullet?

  17. You know, that roboplow reminds me of something I saw in a recent movie. That roboplow looks like a miniature version of an extremely large yellow bulldozer that was controlled remotely until a nimble blue alien smashed the cameras with a rock. Can you guess the movie?

  18. I have a good home theater system, and all of my cables are well shielded. The way I see it, with all those wires behind the tv all so close together, they should be well shielded from each other as well as from outside interferance. Maybe I construct a large EMI cage around my desk and crawl in it! Your inputs were much appeciated.

  19. Ok, check this out:

Green minijack of speakers not plugged into anything= Rusty Humphries speaking about the democracy of early Greece faintly

Minijack plugged into computer= Rusty Humphries ranting off energetically and arguing with a caller loud enough to distract me from creating powerpoint slides for my online class

Minijack plugged into Ipod= Soothing Trance music from the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain and No Rusty Humphries! The iPod is not plugged into power source and is running off its own batteries.

Minijack plugged into Ipod and Ipod plugged into white data cable which is plugged into usb port= Balearic Trance with Rusty Humphries talking to Brad from Nevada about the growing conservative movement in northern Nevada.

It's like there's two sources here. The logitech speakers picking up the AM radio, plus the computer picking up the same station and increasing the volume when the two are combined. This is why i'm so annoyed.

My wife's iMac in the other room has a pair of creative speakers that are also powered. They don't pump out talk radio at all!
