MOQ, Lead Time & Customization — Things New Vape Brands Should Understand

A lot of new buyers get confused when talking with vape factories because the same three terms always appear: MOQ, lead time, and customization.

After working around this industry for a while, I realized these three things are basically the foundation of OEM business.

MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)
This is the minimum number of units a factory will produce per order. Some factories start around 1,000 units, while others require much higher quantities depending on customization.

Lead Time
This simply means how long production takes before the order is ready to ship. Standard products are usually much faster than fully customized ones.

Customization
This can include:

  • Logo printing
  • Packaging design
  • Device colors
  • Puff count & battery setup
  • Mesh coil or dual mesh options

The important thing is that these three factors are connected:

  • More customization = usually higher MOQ + longer lead time
  • Standard products = faster production + lower starting risk

For new brands, it’s usually smarter to start simple first instead of trying to customize everything immediately.

Some suppliers like AMXIM also offer more flexible OEM options for brands that are still testing the market, which can make the starting process easier.

Curious how other people here approached their first OEM order.
Did you start with full customization or standard products first?
