World Series Of Poker Final Table.....

Recommended Posts

Well, the day has finaly come. The day that poker fans have been waiting months for has finaly arrived. The final table of the WSOP main event starts at noon. To those of you who love the game of poker, let me invite you to come forward and make comments and chat about all of the excitement that the next few days are sure to bring......

I've been a fan of Phil Ivey for many years now. I've seen him play. I've even met the guy during a trip to A.C. in 2004. He's a short stack at the table, but that may not be as big a factor as it would be for others. He definately knows how to fire bullets, and I'm sure he'll make every one of 'em count.

I'm still trying to figure out what the best way to follow the action is today, and I'm pretty sure that the only way may be on the net. If any other fans out there know of where coverage will be offered, I would sure appreciate a heads up!!

So, speak up, poker fans and card players..... Who else here loves the game? Tell us your story. How long you been playin'? Lets hear your bad beat tales. Where do you like to play? Whats your favorite game? Anything pertaining to the love of a pat hand, the feel of felt, and the sound of riffeling chips....

I bought Doyle Brunson's book, "How I made $1,000,000 playing poker" (now known as "Super Systems") from an ad in the back of a comic book when I was 14. That was 1980 and it cost me $65.00. It was a hard cover, just like the one in the movie "Rounders". I lost it in a fire after I went into the army.

I've been playing poker all my life. My grandpa was a tough-as-nails veteran/pow from WWII who fought in the battle of the buldge. He owned a string of diners and cafe's in Lansing, MI. I started bussin' tables for him when I was 11 and on saturday nights, after he closed up, he always spread a game for his business partners and friends right there in the diner. That game would last until sunday evening most times, and I would empty ashtrays, make sandwiches and eggs, and serve drinks. Eventually, they taught me all the games, including hold'em, and it wasn't long before I had a bankroll of my own.

Lol, hell, I joined the national guard for 3 years here in town after I got out of the service just because I heard the game was so soft. I lived in Deadwood, SD. (a casino town) from 1999 to 2005 and I rounded up there every night after work. I loved the two weeks during the summer when the town of Sturgis, SD hosted thier annual motorcycle rally because of all the action it would bring.

We mostly played 7-stud and occasionally Omaha high-low. Before 2004, none of the card rooms up there spread texas hold'em. But when Moneymaker won the world series everything changed. I had to go out and buy Doyle's book again just so I could re-learn hold'em. Since then, poker as become a lot different. Before Moneymaker, you couldn't hardly get a fish to sit down at the table. All the players were hard-core rounders that knew the game so well we cleaned out anybody who didn't have a clue. Home games were a joke. 2s and 3s and one-eyed jacks were wild. lol, thats not poker! Thats what rounders called "shotgun poker", 'cause after a half hour of playin' that silly kid crap any serious player would want to put a shotgun in his mouth and pull the trigger! There was no internet Pokerstars. There was no non-smoking tables or soccer moms. It was just leather-faced and leather-assed grinders who who played tight-aggressive nut hands.

In 2005, I moved home to be closer to my mom after my dad died. My grandpa died the following year. Both of 'em died of cancer. Dad smoked Winstons and Grandpa smoked $10 havannas. All the action was in Deadwood 110 miles away and I needed to get figure out a way to get my game on. Here in Wyoming poker is legal and you can play the game even in public places as long as you don't take a rake (inderect profit from gambling is concidered illegal). The poker boom was in full swing all over the country and people were coming out of the woodwork to try thier luck and texas hold'em.

A buddy of mine owns a local sports bar here in town. He knew that I was an experienced grinder and he asked me to host a tournament at his bar every wednesday night in order to boost drink sales. Wednesday was pretty slow for him and he needed something to draw a crowd. I spread a $30 buy-in NL hold'em tourny and a $1-$2NL cash game. It wasn't long before that bar was at filled to capacity.

I hosted that game for over 2 years. Other games had popped up too. Soon there was a different game almost every night here in town. In 2007, I got the other hosts together and we formed the Gillette Poker Club. We rented a empty business building with a large showroom and several offices. We even have a kitchen. We spread a game every night of the week. You can check us out at Gillettepokertour.org. We have well over 100 members now. Soccer moms, cowboys, roughnecks, miners, firmen, city counselmen, business owners, and even young punks barely old enough to drink come play at our club every day. A lot of us have played in the world series, including me. Not the main event, of course. I wouldn't put down 10K against that large of a field, but maybe some day.

Today, I'll be rootin' for Ivey, along with millions of other fans. What will you be doin'?

Thanks for your 2 cents, dear. It's nice to see other fans here at VT....

BTW, I love your jewelry and have been considering some of those cuff links. After reading your profile a few days ago I checked out this art form, steampunk, and have fallen in love with the stuff. My mom really wants one of those fancy clocks and I even downloaded some wallpaper and screensavers.....

It would be awesome if Phil Ivey won; Not for the sport necessarily, but for the community. He is the best player in the world at the moment and it would be amazing to see him win..It's been to long since a pro has won the ME. If he can keep in the tourney the first couple of levels and double up, he can easily win it. If Moon keeps getting the deck it may be a different story.

I agree completely. If Phil gets over $20M, look out. But its a long road for him. I think Buchman has a fair chance, and Jeff Shulman is gonna be pretty tough too.

Well It's 7:00 in the morning and final table is finally down to just two players.

Darvin Moon has $58.8M in chips and the youngest player to ever have a real chance at winning the main event, Joe Cada(21), has an astounding $136.9M in chips.

The two remaining players will take a long rest break and play will resume monday at 10pm Vegas time.

Phil Ivey went out in 7th place when his AK was beaten by Moon's AQ. Bad luck, that. Before the flop, Ivey's odds of winning the hand were more than 70%!

Just heard about Phil Ivy this morning from my husband- I think when he told me there were 4 guys left so now I see it is down to 2. I do actually like Cada so I guess I can handle either one winning.
