Joytech ego-C atomizer wick help

I have said e-cig, and i read on forums about making a replacement wick with 100% cotton yarn, I was wondering if i need to pull the yarn apart or just use the whole strand (diameter wise) also how long should i make it? does it need to touch the burner?

I know nothing of doing this, but perhaps it'd be a better investment or at least thought to look into something else? I'm not sure what tank/clearo/carto you are using though. Carto's are cheap enough to just buy a replacement versus modding a factory one, but I'm not too knowledgeable on it.

Anyhow, if you are using the cartridges that came with the ego-c, I'd say check out a Vivi nova, or a CE4 Clearomizer, both are great alternatives versus cartridges.
