  1. It was quite easy to do. I made a 30ml batch of it tonight and tweaked the flavorings just a tad. I took the dragonfruit up just a notch and backed the cream down a notch. I'm gonna let this batch sit for a couple days before I load it up and see if it has any effect on the flavor.
  2. Welcome! I'm fairly new at this also and I'm with ya on the smell. I can smell it on other people now and I simply think to myself that I used to smell like that. Good luck with it!
  3. I was unsuccessful with the Blu e-cigs. I just could not get enough out of them to make me not want a real smoke. My success came when I purchased the Eleaf iStick and a Nautilus Mini tank to go with it. This combo costs about $70 or so but I can promise you that you will be happier with it. These devices allow you to adjust the 'hit' strength you get each time you puff on it. You won't look back!
  4. My stuff came in yesterday and I mixed up my first batch of e-juice last night. Since I like Suicide Bunny's Sucker Punch, I decided to try to make something that resembled that recipe. I made a 10ml batch with these ingredients: 4.2ml 36mg Nicotine Juice (50/50) .8ml Propylene Glycol 2.9ml Vegetable Glycerine 1.2ml Dragonfruit flavoring .6ml Barvarian Cream flavoring .2ml Amaretto flavoring .1ml (2 drops) Sweetener Targeting a 15mg/ml concentration of nicotine in this batch... I mixed this up really well and let it sit overnight. This morning I cleaned a Nautilus Mini tank and put a new coil in it. I loaded up the e-juice and let it sit in the tank for 30 minutes or so to saturate the coil. I'm really stoked with the flavor of this! As for matching the Sucker Punch, it's fairly close. I may need to back off the Barvarian Cream just a tad and add a little more dragonfruit, but I'm calling my first attempt at this a success! I can't wait to try this again with some of the other flavors I bought! I also need to go find some 1ml syringes so I can make sure my measurements are more accurate. I have some 3ml and some 10ml syringes and they worked really well for this recipe...
  5. Hi Shane and welcome I'm pretty close to you in terms of time vaping. I'm a little over two weeks into NO CIGARETTES. I was smoking 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day. When I decided to try e-cigs, I got off on the wrong foot with those Blu e-cigs from the convenient store which just didn't work for me. They didn't keep me from wanting to smoke a regular cigarette. I went to a local tobacco shop and picked up another product called the SmokeStik Ultra which seemed to work a little better but they didn't carry the proper replacement coils for that unit. I found another smoke shop when I was travelling and I went in and talked to the girl behind the counter and told her my situation. She was knowledgeable on this stuff and sold me the Eleaf iStick and a Nautilus Mini tank to go with it. This system works great. I bought another identical kit so I could have two. Since then I bought a regular Nautilus tank for it's extra capacity so I'm pretty well set now and don't foresee spending much more, if any, on hardware other than replacement coils which only cost $12/5-pack. After only a couple weeks in I already feel better and I never smell like cigarettes, which is a big plus. Now I'm working on finding the perfect e-juices. I have only tried one commercial brand that I really like which is the Suicide Bunny's Sucker Punch. I have ordered some stuff to try making my own juices that should be here on Monday. If I can find the right 'recipe' for my taste, I'll be saving a lot of money since I can make the juice for less than $3 per 30ml. 30ml bottles run anywhere from $12-$15 or more depending on what you get. Even at those prices, you would only be spending $1.50/$2 per day on juice for the average person. If my own recipes work out the cost will come down to $0.30/0.40 per day which sounds really nice Good luck with it!
  6. Greetings to the forum... I'm ready to start making my own e-liquids for vaping. After a little cost analysis, it really makes sense to me to do this. My favorite e-liquid costs me $22 per 30ml. Based on the costs of the supplies I just ordered, I can make my own for under $3 per 30ml. The real question is whether or not I can make something I really love. To get myself in the game, I ordered the following: 500ml Unflavored Nicotine E-Liquid Base (50pg/50vg - 36mg) - $23.99 500ml USP Grade Propylene Glycol - $10.95 500ml USP Grade Vegetable Glycerine - $10.95 Some Leur Lock dispensing needles, a few 15ml bottles with dropper caps, and six different flavorings. I made myself a spreadsheet with some calculations in place to come up with correct volumes of the nicotine base mixed with PG, VG, and the flavorings to get to my desired 15mg final concentration. I have spent a good bit of time reading and watching videos on YouTube about making this stuff and it doesn't seem too difficult. The only area where I feel 'uneducated' at this point is the process that a lot of people call 'steeping' which really isn't 'steeping.' It appears that this process is simply aging and oxidizing the liquid prior to using it. Different folks have different methods of doing this and there appears to be no agreed upon amount of time that this process takes, or even if it's really required. The documentation I have found where people are doing it contains no info to back up the 'why' in this process other than the simple 'it needs/should be done.' I can understand this if it's a simple issue of giving the flavor additives time to properly incorporate themselves into the PG/VG solution.
  7. I'm using the Eleaf iStick also. You can dial down the power settings and this also produces less vapor. I use mine set at anywhere between 6.5 watts and 9.0 watts. The vapor production is very similar to a regular cigarette smoke at this level. I also started out vaping with liquids that do NOT have a standard tobacco scent and flavor. I went for the fruity stuff and prefer it. My favorite e-juice is Suicide Bunny's "Sucker Punch." I love the smell and flavor of it!
  8. I'm fighting a craving this morning for a regular cigarette This is the first crave I have had in 5 or 6 days. I have been sick with a cold and I'm just coming out of that and during this time I have been hitting the vaporizer a bit less since I have had a sore throat. Maybe since I'm feeling better my body is asking for more nicotine today.
  9. How many of you here who have switched from cigarettes to vaping have made the full transition to zero nicotine? I'm sure that's not everyone's objective, but it is mine. If you share this objective, have you been successful? If so, how did you set time frames for moving from one level to a lower level? I'm sure everyone has different plans but I'd love to hear a few success stories to support my own goal here
  10. Thanks for the feedback I just wanted to know if I'm doing something wrong or missing out on something important I am guilty of one thing. I'm cheating on the anti-smoking policy where I work. I do work in the medical field and I understand the health risks associated with smoking. I see it every day. Smoking keeps most hospitals in business. Several years ago, our hospital introduced the 'smoke free campus' which means you can't even smoke on the property. In reality, this only applies to the employees. Management and security will walk right by a group of visitors (or patients even) standing outside an entrance smoking their cigarettes. If an employee is caught doing it, even in their cars in the parking lot, it's grounds for termination. There are smoke alarms everywhere inside the building. Bathrooms, stairwells, corridors, just everywhere and one goes off almost daily from a patient or visitor lighting up inside the building. When the policy was written, e-cigs were not included. The policy specifically stated 'tobacco products' which was their all-inclusive term. Last year it was updated to include e-cigarettes. I hit on my vaporizer during occasional bathroom breaks throughout my shift. Since it doesn't smell like 'smoke' and it doesn't linger in the air, I'll hopefully never get caught. I wonder if a zero-nicotine juice in a vaporizer is still considered an e-cig?
  11. I'm new at this concept of vaping, the equipment, and the 'culture' of it all. I'm learning about it as I go. This forum is introducing me to a lot of new 'culture' and concepts. My visits to my local vaping shop is helping also. As a person who started vaping to replace cigarette smoking, I'm seeing some things that simply strike me as 'extremely different' in the technique of 'smoking.' As a smoker, I would simply take puffs from a cigarette into my mouth and then inhale the smoke. I never took long slow drags from a cigarette directly into my lungs. I never really noticed if my fellow smokers were doing that either when smoking together. In the vaping community (I first noticed this on my visits to the local shop) it seems that the long slow direct inhale technique that produce these huge clouds of vapor on the exhale is the norm. When I go into my local shop, there are usually 3 or 4 people in there and it's literally like a fog bank inside the store and since the weather is cold, the shop storefront windows are usually fogged over! The more I read here about 'mods' and special builds on the battery equipment, I think the huge vapor cloud is the main objective. Maybe someone can educate me on the differences or gains to be had with this technique? I have experimented with these long direct inhale drags on the vaporizer, but just being a week or so off regular cigarettes, I can still gag myself with the vaporizer...
  12. I started when I was 16 and quit when I was 23. I started again when I was 27 and quit again when I was 30. I started again when I was 35 and quit a little over a week ago when I switched to vaping after multiple disasterous attempts to give it up again. So I guess I have smoked cigarettes for a total of 21 years since I'm 46 now. The transition to vaping has been rather uneventful so far so my next goal is to work my way to 0mg nicotine in the vaping. I'm at 18mg now. I plan to start making my own e-liquids starting sometime next week and I'm going to start at a 15mg level and try to hold that for about a month or so.
  13. I work in the medical field and I'm subjected to nasty bugs quite regularly. Even though we practice standard precautions, I invariably end up with a case of strep throat about once a year, which I'm dealing with right now. No matter what OTC medications or throat lozenges I would choose, nothing could really take the 'burn' away from trying to smoke a cigarette during this situation. Since I'm vaping now, I tried an 8mg e-juice solution and dialed the power way back on the Eleaf iStick (3v/5.3w) and can actually take a fair hit without sending myself into a gagging fit
  14. Congrats! I'm a long way to the 30 day mark but I think I'll make it.
  15. Greetings to the forum... As I'm rather new to vaping, I can see that I'm probably going to end up with a lot of batteries, tanks, and accessories sitting around before too long as I continue to discover what's good and what isn't. So far, I'm really happy with my two Eleaf iSticks and the two Aspire Nautlius Mini tanks that I have. The battery life on these iSticks is really nice. I wish the tank capacity on the Nautilus Mini was slightly larger. That being the case, I ordered this new battery and tank to play with: (two images not to scale with each other) Since I like the Nautlius Mini, I decided to give the full blown Nautilus tank a try. I also thought this E-Fire v2 battery looked pretty cool. This battery won't ast as long as the iStick but it just has a cool factor that I had to try out. Newbie question: I'd like for someone to point me to a couple HIGH END batteries and tanks and give me a little feedback on why they are HIGH END so I can start thinking about those bits of gear as time goes by....
  16. I think I'm good to go! It's been a week since I smoked a regular cigarette. I didn't have any cravings today at work but I did run into an issue that I wasn't happy with the e-liquid I had in my tank. For what it's worth, I don't care much for Space Jam's "Starship 1" e-liquid. The only e-liquid I have found so far that I'm STOKED with is the Suicide Bunny "Sucker Punch." I'm really looking forward to formulating some of my own e-liquids in the very near future.
  17. I am new to this concept and have been reading around here about it. I have been looking at the stuff from http://www.myfreedomsmokes.com. I became more interested in this store since it's only about an hour or so from home. They seem to have a good selection of ingredients and equipment available. I just tried to check out the Wizard Labs site but can't see much since they have their website in maintenance mode for the holidays...
  18. I managed to get through the cravings yesterday and didn't seem to notice any today so I'm going to stick with the 18mg solutions for a while before looking at 24mg. In the mean time I ordered a couple new toys to play with
  19. I'm using the 18mg liquids. My overall objective is to work off the nicotine too, but several people have told me to sit on the 18mg stuff for a couple months before I start to work down for the same reasons you posted about 'adjusting' to the lack of all that other stuff. One thing I AM looking forward to after reading around on this site for a while is making my own juices That sounds like fun and since cooking is my secondary job I think I might be able to put together some interesting flavor profiles that I'll like...
  20. For those of you who have made the complete transition from cigarettes to vapor, how long did it take you to get past the occasional cravings for the cigarette? My first few days of being cigarette free have been OK but TODAY i have suffered from some cravings to smoke. They haven't been severe or anything, but the urge to go buy a pack was knocking at my door for a couple hours today.
  21. I sorta anticipated this type of issue when I got started vaping. It took me 3 attempts to find the 'right' vaping product in terms of equipment. The blu e-Cigs were pretty much a joke for me. I upgraded to this electronic cigarette called the SmokeStik Ultra and I ran into problems getting replacement coils for them locally. When I finally found a 'real' vape shop, I got hooked up with the Eleaf iStick and an Aspire Nautilus Mini tank. I am so happy with that setup that I bought another set of the same stuff along with an extra 5-pack of the coil replacements. Since I got setup on the current hardware, I have managed to not have a regular cigarette. That started for me on Thursday of last week. TODAY I have had some interesting cravings for a regular smoke... I have fought it off so far...
  22. I'm new to the vaping scene. I'm a smoker who smokes about 1 to 1.5 packs of cigarettes per day. I want to give them up completely and move to vaping, which has been mostly successful so far. My initial problem with moving completely to vapor was the 'stuff' I bought to start the process. Not knowing anything, I started out with the blu e-cigs, which just didn't work for me for some reason. I couldn't seem to get enough out of them to make me not feel like I needed the real thing. About a week later, I stopped in a local tobacco/smoke shop and talked to the guy behind the counter who turns out to be the owner. He sold me a device called the SmokeStik Ultra. It seemed to be a lot better than the blu e-cigs and I thought I was going to be happy with it. I teetered back and forth between that and real cigarettes for two weeks or so and still could never really get solid with the SmokeStik. I needed a replacement coil for the SmokeStik, so I paid that shop another visit. He sold me some coils that were not the right size. They caused the SmokeStik to get juice in the coils and stopped it up. I went back and he didn't have the proper replacement coils. He took a couple out of new SmokeStiks and gave them to me. That little experience made me feel uncomfortable doing business with that place. As I was trying to figure out exactly what needed to happen next, I stopped in a REAL smoke shop in Savannah, GA while I was on the road during my vacation last week and talked to the girl behind the counter. I explained to her my issues to that point and told her I needed something that was going to work for me and have any replacement supplies I might need readily available. She sold me an Eleaf iStick and an Aspire Nautilus Mini tank. She told me I should be able to get replacement coils for that tank at about any 'real' smoke shop that sells this type of gear. She asked me where I lived and she looked up a place in my home town that would have what I needed. I was a happy camper after trying this combo. I left the store and headed on down to Florida where my girlfriend and I hopped a cruise ship for the weekend to Nassau. I smoked my last regular cigarette in the parking lot at the port and tossed the rest in the trash on Thursday. I haven't had a regular cigarette since then. I was so happy with the performance of this combo and satisfied with how well it was working for me that I stopped back by that shop in Savannah on my way home and bought another combo just like it so I could have two. My next set of goals is to work down the nicotine concentration levels and eventually get to zero. I'm currently enjoying the 18mg Suicide Bunny "Sucker Punch" and the Khali "Devil's Punchbowl" liquids. I'm hoping to work myself down to 12mg over the next month or so and then step down again... We'll see how it goes
