  1. Could be stale juice from sitting all day.Try flooding it intentionaly and blow it out to get fresh juice in there.Do you clean your atties? It could just be the crud in there .

Hmmm, interesting. I do clean my atties, but not before every use every day. I will give that a shot tomorrow as a test but I don't think thats it. I will report back, thanks for the response!

  2. Hello all! I've been away for a while but have not stopped vaping! It's been just over a month now and I am still "In love" with this new contraption! Quick background, I use the Joye 510 with VG juice from wordup ecig. I only vape in the afternoon, this is because I only really smoked analogs after work at home with some beverages, so I am keeping that alive with vaping. I have noticed that when I first fire up the 510 in the afternoon it burns something fierce for the first 3 to 5 pulls, then after that I can go all night like a chimney with no problem at all. The only thing that I can think is that it either a) burns something off in my throat and lungs or B) coats my throat and lungs with the fluid, blocking the burn. Any ideas from my favorite vaping community?

  3. I also find that blowing out works well, if I am changing flavors I just blow it out and then twist 2 ends of a paper towel, one end I stick in the little hole, you would be amazed how much more liquid is in there, and the other I stick "carefully" in the other end and let it sit. Then just prime it up with a few drops and vape on.

  4. Well I just got my variety pack yesterday so it is to soon for a full review, but I tried one of the flavors and Brandon you were right! Perfect throat hit and tons of vapor!! For this one flavor, the cafe mocha, it's a little weak for me, but still very nice. I will update as I try the other flavors. I have chocolate mint, tobacco, 555 and menthol left.

  5. Great question, I was just thinking about this last night but only had my phone handy and did not feel like navigation the site on it at the time. Thanks for asking, I think blue foam sounds cool, I'm going to head on over and take a look!

  6. also remember there is still a lot of crap in you lungs from smoking, it will be on and off for a few weeks. I remember from the other times I stopped smoking (can't say quit :)) that my cough actually got worse in the few days after stopping rather than the other way around! But hey, the best part is you made it through the wine without an analog! Well done!

  7. I think I am going to order the variety pack, but quick questions. At $20.99 for 5 - 5mil bottles, isn't that $20.99 / 25 = $0.84 per mil, not $0.42 ? Great review, that is the only thing I noticed, and did not notice until I was comparing his price with what I get here locally. Which by the way is $0.60 per mil and no shipping, but it's not VG and that is what I am after!

    Thanks again!

  8. Thanks for that, I just found a post on another forum that was over 12 pages long. So, while it did not 100% answer my questions this is what I took away from it.

A pharmacist said that it's VG and safe

Humco, The supposed maker, said it's VG and safe

Some people seem to have a reaction to it that may be allergies and they do not have a reaction to Wilton's?

Wilton's is sweeter than the Humco(pharmacy/walmart) brand.

So I guess I will try it and see if,

    A) I like it and

    B) If it makes me feel bad.

    Thanks again!

  9. Well folks, I have been trying to gather my own intel on this situation and am now more confused. I purchased the CVS pharmacy brand pure glycerin USP. It is marketed as a Skin protectant as several of you have mentioned. Some folks out there say that USP is USP is USP and it is the same as a VG like Wilton's. I read one guys post that said he used it and got blisters on his tongue so he switched to a food grade VG and they went away. The Active ingredient is listed like this "Glycerin 99.5% Anhydrous". To me this means that the product is 100% Glycerin that is 99.5% water free, so I don't really see how this can be any different (or much different) than the Wilton brand.

Anyway the CVS is cheaper than the Wilton's, but I think in the end I can most likely purchase on the web in bulk cheaper even with shipping.

OK folks, let me have all the 2 cents you have out there... Thanks! :unworthy:

  10. Adam, I'm with kitsune on this one too. Miss k knows what she's talking about, so listen up. biggrin.gif I did find some dram bottles of Lorran's flavoring at a local Hobby Lobby; they were in the cake decorating section. I got quite a few flavors there. I got USP glycerin at the local grocery in the pharmacy section. Oh - one of the best things you can get in my opinion is one of those baby medicine syringes. They cost about $2 and are marked in .2 ml, with a max volume of generally 5 ml. This has proven ideal for my purposes, as it gets around the problem of differing drop sizes with different liquids, since you're mixing with volume. Highly recommended. I found mine at Walgreens and have seen them in the grocery store too. I've also seen glass droppers in the grocery store, which are nice in many cases.

But really, you won't find much locally; it's going to be a mail order enterprise I'm afraid. And there will be multiple shipping charges because you won't find everything you want at the same place.

One thing I did when I started was make a spreadsheet with a list of everything I wanted to get; each flavor, different bases, bottles, nic liquid, and so on. Then I went shopping. I listed each supplier (hyperlink to their page) with the price, amount (volume), shipping charge, any coupon codes i could find, etc. Then I just sorted my list by supplier and started there. It did help to cut down on the number of orders I had to make, if only a little.

Also, like commercial liquid, when purchasing flavors for the first time, I recommend buying a small quantity; when you find the ones you know you'll want to use over and over, you can buy the BIG bottles. smile.gif I've run out of storage for my DIY stuff twice; I'm again looking for a proper container to organize all this stuff in. See? The fun just goes on and on.

Once you have a few successful recipes under your belt I bet you'll be like a lot of us; eventually you won't buy much commercial e liquid anymore, because you've learned to make the stuff you like best. I've actually pretty much stopped buying pre-made juice; realizing the came as a real surprise, believe me. A pleasant one. DIY really is a great deal less expensive

(once you get supplied and stop making "Uck!" juice) than purchasing. The only thing is, I have yet to create a decent replica of my fave 555. Sigh.

I do like 555! My first and, aside from a few samples and the juice I just made, only juice! It's only been a week and I am already thinking, "what a long strange trip it's been!"

  11. Thank you all for the advice! So, I got a few things at the store. I found pure glycerine at cvs, but am not sure as it "says" it's for skin and for external use only??? Have not decided on that yet though I know some people use it. I then went to a craft store and got Wilton Glycerine and Wilton Butter Flavor and Almond Extract. Thy did not have much in the way of flavors. The almond extract is water, alcohol and artificial flavors so I mixed it with the glycerine. 20% extract to 80% glycerine. Thus creating........ You guessed it Amaretto! For my first go I am very pleased! That said I see what people are saying about throat hit a VG. I can't really tell it's working untill I exhale that big plume of vapor! A was thinking the alcohol in the extract may help a little, but no matter how long or hard I pull I can not tell I am pulling anything. I thought I would like that because my throat was a little raw from all the vaping but I find I do miss a little something. Anyway, I wanted to share with you my first try, thanks again for the help! Sorry for any typos, posted this from my phone :)

  12. Ok, I have asked a few people this but an still waiting on an answer, so sorry for doubling up efforts :innocent: Anyway, I am wondering, If I don't care about the nicotine can I go wrong with a simple mix of VG and food flavorings? I understand I will get more vapor and possibly less throat hit, is this right? Am I missing something here?

  13. Hi sensay, welcome to the light side! To get set up for mixing you'll want a few basic things. Unfortunately you can't get them all in one place. What a raw deal but that's just the deal. Actually, you probably can get most everything you need from one or two places, but there's going to be specific flavors you want that you'll have to go looking for. Here's a list of what I consider the basics:

    • PG and/or VG nic base, with a high enough nic level that you can cut it at least by half and still get your desired end nic strength. For example if you vape 24mg you could probably get away with 48mg base.
    • 0 nic PG and VG. These are cheap, though PG is a bear to find except by mailorder.
    • Flavorings. Common brands are Lorann's, Fairy's Finest, Capella, Perfumer's Apprentice, Flavour Art. I'm beginning to lean back toward Lorran's because they seem to be the most concentrated to me, which can be important if you like a Lot of flavor.
    • Storage and carry bottles. I like to store larger quantities of everything in glass dropper bottles easy to find on eBay. 30 ml bottles would be a decent size to be handy to use but I have some 60 ml bottles for storing mixed liquid. Also 3 ml and 6 ml plastic drip bottles.
    • Pipettes for dripping. One thing that can throw you is that different drippers have different drop sizes. You'll have to adjust your calculator for the number of drops you get per milliliter; that really varies! So using the same kind of disposable pipette can help to standardize mixing. (Disposable pipettes can be rinsed out and used many times.)
    • Latex gloves. Mixing is messy and you don't want to get high-nic base on your skin; it can make you quite sick.
    • A calculator for determining the volume of each component for your mix. Don't use mine, I found a math error that I haven't fixed yet. There's a thread here with a great calculator that also includes a ton of nice recipes and some 'how to' type information.

I think that covers the basics at a high level. Look through other threads here to find suppliers and many good ideas. You may hear some conflicting advice but you'll soon determine what you'll want to try first.

One thing that I'm figuring out that works well for me is to mix your flavoring together in a discrete bottle. Then you can experiment with PG/VG proportions, how much flavoring to add, etc without messing up a whole mix when you get it not-quite-perfect the first few tries. Also, you can mix with 0 nic base to test flavor and vapor properties before you commit your measure of nic base.

Good luck, have fun, ask all your questions and vape on! You found the right place.

This is a great post, plus you have replied to all of my questions so far so I thought it was past time for a plus one too!!! This is what I was looking for, but have to admit that after a little on-line looking I am still overwhelmed. I have only been vaping for a week, but want to mix some of my own 0nic flavors. After looking, it seems that I could go to a kitchen store and get what I need, except for maybe the PG, is that right? Can it be that simple? I was thinking everything was going to be vapor related, not cooking, I guess that was silly of me! Can you mix just VG and flavoring and vape that, will there be any TH? Very much looking forward to your reply!

    Adam

  14. Aside from my wife and the girl I purchased my 510's from, I don't know any other vapors around. So simple questions. Have any of you hung out in a room full of people vaping. We all know what that's like with analogs, but I am just wondering, if someone walked into a room full of vapors, would they notice a smell or anything?

  15. Thank you all for the great responses!! My craving passed at that moment and has not returned. I sucked my atty dry as advised (man was that nasty) and all seems to be well now! I re-read my post, sorry it was a little scatter brained!! Glad most of you got it! Vape on my friends, vape on!

  16. Well it's almost day six for me and I feel great! That said I wanted to share with you the "level" I just hit today! You guys were all talking about pass throughs and extra batts. and attys. I'm thinking, man these guys are crazy! That said, I got some anyway :) (Takes a hit using his passthrough) Well, let me tell you, I am on drink three today and the desire for an analog has been (kinda) kicking in. (my wife caved and had 3 yesterday) This is the first time that I have really thought about lighting up since buying my 510. So (takes a drag.... thank goodness for the pass through) I have been sucking on this puppy constantly for the past hour and just had to fill the cart up again and this time it took 8 drops! Up until now the most I needed to fill it up again was 3 drops. ( Takes another drag, used to be upset that the light was blue instead of orange like an analog... now cares nothing about the light, which is good because there are no lights with the pass through.. did I mention I LOVE the pass through!) ( Note to self, buy some more attys in light of the New York crap!) So, just filled it up and have to admit that I would love some thicker vapor but totally love the taste (555) more than my old analog, but the reason I am writing this is to tell you all that I see what you all were talking about, and had I not listened to what you have said I would most likely be sucking on an analog and feeling guilty about it! FOR ALL MY HARD COME VAPORS AND FORUM ADVISOR'S PLEASE KEEP READING! So, (pause for a 10sec pull... is that bad for my atty?) I now know why I am writing this message, my brain, which I am sure is trying to trick me into smoking again, (I know you all know how rationalization works) is thinking, you have not had a real smoke in almost 6 days, you should try one to see if it's nasty, see what the differences are... (crap my wife has an analog!) Please, what do you say to my brain..... OH wait, she lit it, (I swear this is real time) that stinks.... wow, that really stinks, I'm good now, the desire is gone.... how can she smoke that? (takes a nice big drag (thank you passthrough) of his 555 and smiles, I think I am good now) You know I think typing this message saved me, thank you so much Vapor Talkers!!!!!!

PS, this is totally in real time and the smell of my wifes nasty analog truly saved me from pulling the trigger!

  17. So just for fun I took two very large pulls off my joye 510 through a folded over piece of toilet paper, result just a small clear wet circle. I can only imagine what it would look like if I did it with an analog. Sorry, can't test the analog because I am done with them!!!!

On another note, stupid stinking New York Assembly!!!! Ughh

  18. Hey welcome to VT! Glad to hear you have had good luck with the vaping. Everyone seems to have you all helped out so just a hello. Amazing how quickly you realize you don't care about looking and tasting like analogs. Be careful, soon you will have flashlights with attys and boxes and passthroughs! Have fun!

hahah, thanks, I got my PPC and Passthrough yesterday!

  19. A very belated Welcome to VT! As you can see, this is a great place.

The only thing I might add to what's gone before, is to consider liquid with a VG component. Vegetable Glycerin creates a lot more vapor and is easier on the throat hit. One thing to keep in mind is that is also can tend to reduce the flavor -- but just a bit, and not really that noticeable. I've taken to using a lot more VG in my juice, and I like it quite a lot.

Since I haven't read your earlier posts, can you repeat for me what device you're using? Just curious. If you're using voltage higher than 3.7V, I would strongly recommend more VG, perhaps 50% or greater. Just my experience, not sure it would apply to others.

And because you're thinking of vaping 0 nic, making your own liquid would be a very simple and economical approach. Check out the DIY Liquid forum for lots of great info. I'd be happy to share what little experience I have in that area too if you have any questions. I'm pretty much making all of my own liquid now and am quite satisfied after having done a lot of experimenting. ;)

Good luck, have fun and Vape On!

Sorry this took so long, I did not see it went to page 2! I'm new not only to vaping, but also to the forum's in general! I am using the Joye 510 manual model. I would be very interested in what you have to teach, I usualy am fine with the nic withdrawal so I really want to go nic free! I am vaping 555 right now and really like the sweet nutty flavor, I also sampled RY4 and almost got it but went with the 555. I tried vanilla today, but it was just a little to sweet if that helps at all. I have not tried any fruity flavors yet so I am not sure what I will think about them. It's funny, 3 days ago I was all worried about it looking and tasting like an analog, now, I could care less, just give me good vapor and great flavor and I am happy as can be!

  20. Hey all, first let me say thanks for all the great advice already, this is a great forum! Not only am I new to vaping, but also to the whole forum scene. I am having a really had time searching for things on the forum. I figure most of my questions have been asked before and thus don't want to repeat if not necessary, but I really don't get good results from the search. I figure it must be user error. For example, I read somewhere about someone cleaning (boiling) their atty. So, interested, I searched for (atty cleaning) and got all kinds of hits, over 200, but nothing that highlighted both words. I tried "" around atty cleaning but got the same results. Any suggestions about how to refine my searches?
