That's why from a safety perspective I feel like we should be teaching newbies to test parts before using them. It's really not hard to build a test box or safety cage. I had a buddy loose use of an eye for a little while a few years ago from a faulty capacitor that exploded.

In quite a few of the hackerspace communities I'm a part of they have guides to setting up test benches and what safety precautions you should take with which parts.

In a mech you can tell when your battery voltage has dropped. Heat, flavor, vapor production all change as charge drop's

That's a different company, Jason. Your link goes to eciggity but the OP was asking about Cigabuy. Cigabuy is based from China according to their FAQ. Personally, I much prefer to buy from reputable vendors based in the US. If something goes wrong I have more recourse using a US vendor rather than one that's in China. Well over a month ago I put in an order for a few drip tips from Fasttech. Got the "it shipped!" notice over two weeks ago but still haven't seen them yet.

Comp is correct... buying direct from China is cheaper than US retail sites, but you'll be waiting by the mailbox until you need another haircut... 4-8 weeks is the norm for shipping. I recently received my Nautilus, direct from China... took 34 days from shipping to delivery!

So, bottom-line is this... Yes, you get some really good prices by ordering direct from China, especially if buying in bulk. But, if you can't wait upwards of 8-weeks for delivery (with no recourse for damage/defective products), then the slightly higher prices from US retailers is worth it.

No different than Fasttech. Fasttech has the the SS Vamo 6 for $26.49 and the SS Vamo 5s for $26.25. Thing is you will be waiting on it for 4 weeks and if you have an issue with it, you will be paying twice that to get it replaced.

I've dealt with electronics from all over the world... from cheap Chinese no-name parts to high-end Japanese, US, or European parts, and one thing is constant... you do get a bad part from time to time.

kngfdrgn is correct... most companies batch-test only a handful of parts per machine, per shift, daily... probably ~ 0.1% of the total production of any given part.

I don't think that most people stop and think about the fact that 99% of the time the part you're using hasn't been tested. Most companies do batch testing, which means only about two out of 2000+ built get tested.

The article did seems specific to say "liquid nicotine" - to me, that's different from e-juice, that's the nicotine solution put into the juice - like a DIYer (my SO has some unflavored, um, I can't remember what the mg is in a PG solution, but then he further dilutes that with VG). Of course, it's possible that the reporter doesn't know a darned thing about vaping, so is just calling e-juice as a whole "liquid nicotine". At one year of age, there's no way this baby could have gotten a child proof cap off, but at 1, those suckers are climbers. You should see the towers my youngest son erected in order to to get to the cookies kept in the top cabinet on a weekend morning. We had to keep moving the cookies, it scared the piss out of me when I would get up to giggles and see whatever tower he built (the cookies eventually ended up being hid in my dresser, to avoid the tower thing). It says a one year old, so that's anywhere between twelve and twenty-four months, so yeah, on the later end of the spectrum, climbing is a definite possibility. And at that age, it would take much to poison a kid - especially if it was "liquid nicotine" - undiluted. One hundred percent nicotine on the skin can kill an adult. If for some reason a kid of one ate a cigarette, it could make him/her severely sick, if not kill them, as well.

Yeah, it's a tragedy, but I'm sorry, the blame lays squarely in the lap of the parents and whoever's home it was. For not watching the child (I know, you can't watch them constantly, you have to pee sometimes) and for god's sake for not putting that up in a secured cabinet. If it happened at the parents' home, then, yeah, I'm sorry, they should be shot for leaving it where a baby could get it and either get it on them or in their mouths. If it happened at someone else's home, the first thing that person should have done should have been to make sure the kid didn't see the stuff and couldn't get to it.

But the article is full of fear-mongering/fanning the flames of, frankly, ignorant, hateful comments.

If they are thinking about banning juice because of this, they need to ban bleach, ammonia, anti-freeze, and any of a number of chemicals found around the home that kids have accidentally ingested and died from. Except, with those chemicals, the danger to kids isn't so much in the forefront of people's minds, despite the fact that antifreeze smells so sweet - sweet enough that dogs lick it up unbidden and die every year from it.

I saw where some idiot posted, ban ejuice because it killed a child. Ghee maybe we could ban automobiles as they kill adults and children on a daily basis. I lust love how dumb a**'s speak before thinking. I don't see the sky falling because of it but it certainly doesn't help.

As long as all ejuice manufacturers use child proof caps then I don't see how they can point the finger at the vaping industry. Like you said, kids unfortunately die from every day household cleaning chemicals, drowning etc.But you won't see them outlawing Windex or water.I'm not surprised ABC covered this one.

Childproof caps can slow down a child (depending on age), but it's not the magic bullet to making a bottle of e-liquid 100% safe for children. Parents need to be aware of safety issues and keep it in a safe place. Keeping an eye on their child would also be helpful.

People who leave things like e-liquid in places where their kids can get to it need to be better educated on what's inside e-liquid and what it can do. All too often the vaping industry is going to be blamed before it gets better. If ever. *sighs*

Exactly. it wouldn't have mattered if I bought the highest rated most expensive part I could find, I still would have put it on the test box first.

Not all of their stuff is junk. It's hit or miss sometimes, they don't always have brands I know. They have always been good to me though. if it's a part that costs more than $15 thats faulty they always give me a store credit and send the bad one back to the manufacturer.

It's a E-go chip with an evod 1600mah battery. I need to clean it up and put some final touches on it after the liquid pvc dries but it vapes great.

The protected batteries a little longer due to the PCB or fuse that's one them. You should never tamper with battery. Invest in some Sony vtc4 or 5. Or the efest 30amp or 35amp 18650 purple in color. Also the LG is good check the c rating or amp limit. Another is the Samsung 25r. There is also mnke and aw imr that would work great for that device

So I know this kind of thing gets said a whole lot around here but I figured I'd give an example. For those of you looking to build your own mods use quality parts and don't trust that the manufacturers specs are correct.

I have a test box I built out of a plastic cigarette case specifically for test firing different parts.

I bought what was supposed to be a 40 amp switch and test fired it last night. Things didn't go as well as I hoped but it did give me an opportunity to hopefully teach people something.

This is what can happen when you use faulty or cheap parts.

It melted all the casings on the wires and the switch smoked. That was using a 15 amp battery pressing the switch maybe 2 or 3 seconds. Now imagine what would have happened if I had used that switch in my mod with the 35 amp battery I wanted to.

Well just got back from the post office, with my package. I found out that this post office will attempt deliver twice before leaving a note. It just so happened that my carrier was there and had not left yet so I was able to get it while I was there. I think I said Thank You at least 10 times. I'm a little upset about them not leaving a note, but I have what I order and armed with the info that they will not ever leave a package on the street. I also will not go into complete panic mode if it happens again.

Box mods come in two styles...

    1. Sealed battery, like the MVP 2.0 or Eleaf's iStick... they charge like a cell-phone, using the same micro-USB cable as non-Apple phones.
    2. Replaceable, rechargeable batteries (18650, 26650, 18500, or 18350). Some use one battery, like the VTR, some use multiple batteries in parallel (some of the DNA-MODs for example)

So, yes, they all use a battery of some sort or style, the question is whether they are user-replaceable (18650, etc.) or sealed, requiring plug-in charging.

I have not ever gone though more than 2 batteries in a day with my Vamo. I also have 6 batteries in rotation. the lowest is 1500mah those I need two a day. Like earthling said, get some higher mAh batteries My Sony's and 2500 mAh Efest last the whole day and into the next. To me charging batteries is just part of the program. It is better than coughing my brains out from analogs. LOL I keep mine in cases that hold 2 batteries. As they die I put them in the charger, When done back in the case, then to the back of my stack. I just grab the next box with two charged batteries and go about my day. I had my charger die recently and had no back up to charge batteries. My 6 batteries lasted till I could get the new charger and that was a week later.Admittedly I was on my last battery the day it showed up at my door. I also had some evods and a new XPV that had arrived in case but did not even use the EVODs. I did start using the XPV though because it was new and like it more than the Vamo.

I started vaping when all I had were the Cigalike batteries. Talk about a battery dance. I would go through 7-8 of them a day. I had two USB hubs charging 6 batteries at all times. I had to take 10 of them with me when I left the house and take one of the usb hubs with me. I find that what I have to do now to keep my vape going very simple and think little of it. Now when I head out for a day I take my Vamo with what ever was in it a box of batteries and now my XPV. I hardly ever even take a battery out of the case, but it is a back up just in case.

That is definitely a turn off, i think to lots of newbies. A few weeks before i started vaping i went into a local shop to look around and when i opened the door it was worse than walking in a Smokey bar. It was a dense cloud everywhere and had an unpleasant odour. Talking with the owner i asked him how busy they had been. He said not busy at all, just him and his brother most of the morning.
It was a total turnoff. I figured what would the purpose of quitting cigarettes would be if that was what vaping was like. I eventually came around by reading some more online and have ordered all my stuff online. I really have no desire to go into a local store

Murder porn! If you watch South Park, you'll get the joke. I used to watch that stuff all the time - but the shows on Discover ID go more in depth on the same cases, because they are usually an hour long, but my husband started getting really paranoid that I was planning his murder, lol.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask about naps, though, as I'll just up and fall asleep in the middle of day, dead to the world (except maybe a phone ringing) sitting on the couch, or I'll doze off sitting at my desk. But that's just me, lol. And sir, you didn't grab a power nap during the football game - say what my dad used to say. "I was just resting my eyes."
