ddavelarsen reacted to Brandon in The Word Is Spreading
My sister-in-law had a big staff meeting today at the local Women's Shelter. I gave her two 510 sets (cart, atty, battery) preloaded with some Essence USA mix and 555, the bottle of Essence, a KR808 PCC with an 808 to 510 adapter in it, with a battery plugged in, and a 510 cartomizer in the PCC filled with Jeff's Mix (from WordUpEcig). And also a fist full of about 30 business cards from all the online vendors I've ever ordered from before.
She gave a little presentation to her employees about PVs because they all smoke. They were all very impressed, and took *all* of the business cards away from her
It went very well, and I'm freaking happy about it. Hopefully they'll go home tonight and do their own online reading and work up the courage to buy a starter kit somewhere. It would be fantastic to "save" some folks from smoking analogs. Plus, on a selfish note, I'd like more vapers in my area!
Wish them luck!

ddavelarsen reacted to VapeFiend in What Does Your Spouse Think?
I'm single but I keep seeing a lot of people talking about their spouse's preference for this/that juice/atty/etc.
I'd like to know what their reactions and thoughts were when you first started vaping; did you start together, did one convince the other, does one still smoke, did only one smoke-now vapes...
If you're single, maybe share your roommate/friends' reactions or those of your family
Just thought it would be nice to compare stories!
(sorry if there's already a thread like this)

Has anyone that has recently started to vape or any long timers ever noticed a pugnant odor from there urine?
it seems that ive been urinating a very strong musk-like odor. i am not a dr. or a continuous urine inhaler but i have noticed this since ive vaped , i also bought a new strong coffee since i started vaping to help with the transition so i will not be drinkin it for the next few days to see if that is the reason. other then that my diet is as normal. thanks beforehand for any help in this matter.

I'm not pushy about my PV... but when I go out for the evening I normally take four Kr8s with different color cartomizers and flavors and put them in a rocks glass on my table. Anyone is welcome to come over and try one! I've been doing this for around four months now.
I also keep a couple of disposable kits with me and a few new bottles of liquid (tobacco and menthol flavors.) If someone shows interest I tell them I have a disposable kit they can buy to try it if they would like. I charge what I paid for them... no profit... just a service.
I have 'sold' over two dozen kits at this point. Almost all of my smoking friends have PVs as well now. Some have quit smoking completely. Some still smoke some. Only two have given up on PVs and are back to cigarettes only.
I have one friend who wouldn't even try my PV when he first saw it almost five months ago. He scoffed at it and teased me about it. Last night while I was out he came over and sat down and before he even said 'Hello' he asked what flavors I had brought and tested each one in turn and gave me his opinion! I'm pretty sure that he will eventually get one himself.
Some people just need more time than others. And some need more help. And some will probably never take to it. But I'm going to do my part to spread the word!

ddavelarsen got a reaction from nana in Have Some ?'s
Hi Noner, welcome! Yes, we have help for you, this is the right place. I assume you're using a 510 passthrough and yes there are USB adapters you can plug into a wall outlet. You can find this at some of the suppliers in the forum, or locally. You need to be sure its output is at least 2,000 mah; less output won't drive your PT. You can also find USB adaptors for your car.
As TJ mentioned, there are many, many 'mods' that you can look into. A mod is a device made to accommodate a larger battery, either higher voltage or increased storage capacity (mah) or both. Common mods are VP2, Spade, eGo (this is a 510, goes well with your current setup), Phidias Woodimus (another 510), Chuck, GG, and on and on. This can get confusing quickly; the eGo is providing great satisfaction for many vapers and is reasonably price effective. And it looks nice.
When using the most common 3.7V, there is a relatively new option for 510, the magnum atty. This gives a high-voltage experience at 3.7V. Highly recommended, but new enough it's still not clear how long the magnum attys will last compared to 'regular' 510s. I haven't used anything else since I got the first one.
As to using carts; you're on the right track, that's exactly how I did it when using carts too. But you don't have to use a cartridge, and most vapers eventually end up direct dripping. This is where you drip e liquid directly onto the bridge inside your atty. 2-3 drops will get you 4-6 decent hits before needing to drip again. This is a learning curve, it's easy to flood the atty at first, which is easily corrected. You'll find all kinds of help with direct dripping here. A good place to start is Chris's direct dripping video, which I can never locate but someone will come along soon enough to provide you a link.
Anyway, that's a start but get ready for the deluge of help from the rest of this great forum.

Vivid and real Juxtoposition on youtube:
1. FDA celebrating passing the bill that bans ecigs from minors.
2. Minors youtubing their failed attempts at quitting real cigarettes.
3. The minors videos are in the line-up on the FDA's video page.
That's real. That's life.... errrrr..death.
The FDA has no business restricting anybody, minor or major, from quitting tobacco products. They are playing with our future taxpayers lives. Shoot, they are already taxpayers.

ddavelarsen reacted to Guineahill in M4 Atttys From Innovapor
I consider all atties to be like light bulbs. They all go eventually and you won't ever really know when to expect it.
I have atties from lots of sources, including Innovapor and all are still going strong. I do believe I have been lucky with my atties.
I clean them with vodka. I also do periodic short dry burns. I use my M401s for testing liquid flavors so some of them get washed very often. I know that other people have good luck without cleaning them at all.
My theory is that, just like light bulbs, there are a number of things that can reduce their lifespan. If they are over-heated, subjected to thermal shock, or dropped their life expectancy will decrease. In my opinion the build up of crud on the atty is bound to shorten their life... and some liquids produce more crud than others.
These are my opinions! I haven't done any detailed studies to substantiate my comments.

It bugs me beyond belief that they are saying it's for the kids. I wonder how many kids have the amount of money it takes to get going on vaping? If they wanted to smoke, they'd be much more likely to fork over the money for a pack of smokes, wouldn't they? It bugs me beyond belief that they have badgered us with the "no smoking", have to quit smoking, second hand smoke kills, ban smoking here and ban smoking there, etc, campaigns that they been pushing at us and when we finally find a way to quit smoking that really and truly works...they want to take it away from us. If only they would listen to the people who really know what they are talking about when it comes to vaping.
I will write any letters, make any calls, sign any petitions...whatever it takes. Just let me know what to do, where to do it, where to send it, and how loud to get.

egads with a tripple grrrrrrrr.
You know, I almost hate to state this out loud, and I probably shouldn't, and if you all think I shouldn't, then feel free to delete this. But, I was just thinking that if a minor makes a concious decision to start vaping and a conceious decision to start vaping nicotine, then the eCig is the ONLY device known to man that will actually allow this same person (minor or major) to make a concious decision to vape 0 nicotine and wean his/her addicted hiney back off of their addiction. Try that with real cigs. Been there, done that. This whole clause/war/fright/propaganda/ stinks. And they're using the kids to spank the adults anyway. Shame on them!!!!!!! They are nothing but a legalized hate group. They're literally trying to kill us.

So I just updated my review of the Magnum 510 atty and thought I'd start another thread about the burning taste with HV vaping. If you haven't heard of this atty yet, it's a 510 with a lower resistance (1.5 ohm) that simulates 5 volt vaping. At 1.5 ohms it generates about 9 watts. I use my regular 510 at 3.7v and use the 302 on my VP/PT at 5v. With the 302 at 5V I do occasionally get some burnt taste, but never real bad. However, with the magnum attty at 3.7 I get 3-4 good hits and then total crap burn taste. At first I assumed it was just using up all the juice in 3-4 hits, but after several repeats of of this I got a massive leak and when I blew out the atty I was shocked at how much juice came out. Now, I've heard this is normal for HV vaping, but wanted to get some other opinions. I know many of you use the 510 on the VP/PT, do you have this problems? Also know some of you are using the regular 510 at 6v - same question??? If this is normal, how do you get past the burn taste?
If this is normal, then it sounds to me like you need to stay below the 8-9 watt range to avoid it.

Hi Larry. I'm not expert by any means, but the empty cartridges I've purchased have had dry filler in them. I'd say if it's wet, it has e-liquid in it. All you have to do is take the filler out and you can direct drip on the atty. If you don't want to direct drip, you can take the filler out, rinse it out well, dry the filler with a paper towel, but it back in the cartridge and add your juice to the filler. You don't have to vape the liquid on the filler.
Good luck.

+1 Schizo. I admire your consistent willingness to do your own thinking and to stick your neck out. I agree with you about the kids raising part and I wasn't able to watch the entire video to catch that the kid had been instructed not to use it - any why. Good point. This doesn't mean though that some naysayer won't also take it out of context and use it against us, which shows truly bad judgement on the poster's part. But you're my hero for today man.

ddavelarsen reacted to Schizophretard in I Don't Want To Be A Jerk....
I do think it was a bad idea but just because he posted it. In the video the kid said that it should be used only by people who already smoke and not kids. That tells me the guy is teaching him things he needs to know. I think it is important to teach children the reasons why we as adults do things and why they shouldn't. My father has always smoked cigars. The only reason my parents gave me not to smoke was,"Because I said so!!!" I didn't understand that my dad had an addiction that he rather not have and didn't want me to have either. I thought the main reason I shouldn't smoke was just because I was a kid. I thought if it is good for dad then it is good for me. Now today I'm an addict. My main education concerning smoking was mainly just watching him do it. It was the same thing with sex. I was basically told,"Because I said so!!!" By the time I was 15 I was addicted to cigarettes, experimented with drugs, and lost my virginity. My parents did the opposite of this guy and it made me a bad teenager. My parents sheltered me from the world and I had to figure it out on my own. I never got any reasons. I just got rules and in a kid's mind rules are meant to be broken. There are fathers out there that either abandon their children or don't get involved in their lives. I think this guy getting his kid involved displays better parenting skills than what I got. It was a bad idea to make a video though for obvious reasons but I have no problem with him actually trying to raise his son.

ddavelarsen got a reaction from nana in Diy Mixing
Hi sensay, welcome to the light side! To get set up for mixing you'll want a few basic things. Unfortunately you can't get them all in one place. What a raw deal but that's just the deal. Actually, you probably can get most everything you need from one or two places, but there's going to be specific flavors you want that you'll have to go looking for. Here's a list of what I consider the basics:
PG and/or VG nic base, with a high enough nic level that you can cut it at least by half and still get your desired end nic strength. For example if you vape 24mg you could probably get away with 48mg base. 0 nic PG and VG. These are cheap, though PG is a bear to find except by mailorder. Flavorings. Common brands are Lorann's, Fairy's Finest, Capella, Perfumer's Apprentice, Flavour Art. I'm beginning to lean back toward Lorran's because they seem to be the most concentrated to me, which can be important if you like a Lot of flavor. Storage and carry bottles. I like to store larger quantities of everything in glass dropper bottles easy to find on eBay. 30 ml bottles would be a decent size to be handy to use but I have some 60 ml bottles for storing mixed liquid. Also 3 ml and 6 ml plastic drip bottles. Pipettes for dripping. One thing that can throw you is that different drippers have different drop sizes. You'll have to adjust your calculator for the number of drops you get per milliliter; that really varies! So using the same kind of disposable pipette can help to standardize mixing. (Disposable pipettes can be rinsed out and used many times.) Latex gloves. Mixing is messy and you don't want to get high-nic base on your skin; it can make you quite sick. A calculator for determining the volume of each component for your mix. Don't use mine, I found a math error that I haven't fixed yet. There's a thread here with a great calculator that also includes a ton of nice recipes and some 'how to' type information.
I think that covers the basics at a high level. Look through other threads here to find suppliers and many good ideas. You may hear some conflicting advice but you'll soon determine what you'll want to try first.
One thing that I'm figuring out that works well for me is to mix your flavoring together in a discrete bottle. Then you can experiment with PG/VG proportions, how much flavoring to add, etc without messing up a whole mix when you get it not-quite-perfect the first few tries. Also, you can mix with 0 nic base to test flavor and vapor properties before you commit your measure of nic base.
Good luck, have fun, ask all your questions and vape on! You found the right place.

ddavelarsen got a reaction from nana in Nhaler 8-Watt 510 "magnum" Atty First Impression
It's a crying shame that these are not yet available at NHaler's site. The one I'm testing came with my Phidius Woodimus device, though I'm using it on my VP2 presently.
This is billed as a "5V simulated" experience at 3.7V. I concur. Admittedly I had my doubts going in, and I really hate breaking in new attys, so I put it off initially. Wish I hadn't! Besides looking really cool in stainless steel on the VP2, the thing really puts out. First impressions:
Vapor Production
When broken in, kicks heinie. If you've vaped a 510 at 5V, for example on your VP PT, you already know what the Magnum atty is like at 3.7V. It creates a great deal of warm vapor right out of the chute but after vaping 20 or 30 hits off it I got a fully broken-in unit that has never failed to deliver huge plumes. Some people don't appreciate warm vapor; I should say this doesn't seem any different from a standard 510 at 5V in that regard.
Flavor
Hm. Still tends to overpower flavor a bit like your standard 510 does at 5V. I was honestly hoping that wouldn't be the case, but there you have it. It pays to keep it fairly wet, which lessens its harshness. Boosting the proportion of flavor in your e liquid will help to restore some flavor to the 5V experience (and the Magnum experience).
Throat Hit
Truly works as advertised. I've been vaping standard PG liquids in this atty and getting truly raucous TH. No complaints or surprises.
In my opinion so far I'd say this is about as close as I've come to getting the sensation of smoking from an e cig (other than Woodimus at 6V, but that's another story). Of course I don't yet know how long it will last, whether it will have the same longevity of other 510s or tend to die more quickly. That remains to be learned. I have high hopes for it though; it really feels like a quality atomizer and it truly performs as advertised. This is a worthwhile and recommended innovation in my book.
Hopefully these will become generally available soon (and I hope I notice that before everyone else does so I can get in line quickly enough ) at a reasonable price.

ddavelarsen reacted to Brian in Attys/volts/ohms & Watts
There's been a lot of talk about different volts and HV atty's etc. I could be way off base here, but from my reading it sounds like the watts generated is what drives the vapor production. I've put together a spreadsheet showing the watts generated for regular 510 and 302 atty's vs. the HV atty's. The Joye 510 is 2.2 ohm and the 302 is 3.2 ohms (even verified this myself). The HV atty's for both 510 and 801's come in 4.5ohm and 5.2ohm (although I've only been able to find 4.5ohm atty's... I've only heard about the 5.2 ohm). Anyhow, thought this may help everyone see where you are and give you some ideas about about things and what the different combinations will give you before you try anything. You've all heard about people toasting atty's at high volts - it looks to me like you really start putting the atty at risk when you're over 15+ Watts.
Anyhow, if anyone finds any errors, shout it out. If there's some factor I missed, don't be shy.

ddavelarsen got a reaction from Christopher in Study: Iowa Cigarette Sales Drop 52 Percent
I swear, legislators and anti-smoking people are about the dumbest, most dedicatedly ignorant bunch of dimwits ever! "2009 Tobacco Control Progress Report" indeed. In it, these people who think they're smart but are anything but, convince themselves that reduced tobacco sales means people are smoking less. WTH?!
As the generally much more intelligent commenters pointed out, everyone's just buying their cigarettes online or in neighboring states. Kids haven't shown the same tobacco use reduction as adults because - guess what? - kids don't have credit cards to order online or the freedom to drive to Nebraska to buy smokes.
I really, REALLY disrespect self-serving fools who claim to know something because they made it up. I posted this here because it doesn't have anything to do with vaping; just the typical willfully ignorant prohibition mindset. Well, and I'm at work and can't really blow off much steam here.

ddavelarsen reacted to braingrnt in Dse 905 & Screwdriver Questions
Just my two sense.
The DSE-905 IS a copy and a bad one at that. I bought one right when they came out just because they were cheap and I wanted to see what the difference was. The 905 has a plastic connector between the bat case and the atty so that the led can lite it up, bad idea!!! This connection can break the first time you drop it. The original SD is made much better with the exception of the rear mounted switch that can break off if you drop it and it lands just right. There is a reason thy they sell replacement switches for the original. I have two original SD's that work great but I have done some tweeking on the switch to prevent it from breaking. The average user should not have to worry about such issues but it is a very well build unit.
I have recently purchased a new devise from a site called powervape out of the U.S. that is made very well and has the switch on the side. I've only had it about two weeks and I don't use my SD's anymore because I love the switch placement on the powervape.
The powervape is almost identical to the SD in construction but the switch placement makes it more user friendly. Powervape is located in the U.S. so the shipping time was like three days and it was cheaper than the original.
If you are looking for one or the other, definitely get the original SD before the DSE-905.
If you want to save some money, check out the powervape.
Good Luck!

ddavelarsen reacted to Speakeasy in Is Vapor Addiction Real? I Think Its All About Choices.
Hey Hardwired,
Glad to read that you've recovered as well as you have from your stroke. It sounds like you've learned a very valuable lesson about health, so don't feel too bad about your past. We all tend to learn the hard way, it seems.
In searching for answers to all these questions, each of us find many conflicting things about whats known and whats not known about nicotine, tobacco, and the e-cig. The more you look on the internet, the more confusing it gets. If the report or document came from a supplier of a product in any industry involved with nicotine, it will be worded to slant the opinion to benefit that product. Any decent skeptic knows this already. If the report or document came from an independent scientific review, it most times was funded by a manufacturer or supplier of a product, and it can also be so filled with scientific jargon that it's hard to understand it fully. One thing your never going to find is a honest statement that reads, "You will be safe if you use/don't use this product/chemical/food/car/hand cream/ad nausium"...
I've read a lot of crap about nicotine. I've smoked for almost 30 years. I work in a hospital that specializes in substance abuse. I've been a nurse for 25 years. I know a gazillion doctors, pharmacists, counselors, lab technicians, respiratory therapists, and patients. Every person, EXCLUDING THE DOCTORS, that I talk to has a very different opinion about smoking and vaping. Every one of those opinions are based not only on their professional experience, but also on their personal experience. However, every one of the doctors I speak to about the e-cig has just one question. "Does that silly little thing keep you from smoking cigarettes? If yes, then use it, because tobacco is KILLING you!"
When I ask a physician about nicotine, they ALL say the EXACT SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!! nicotine doesn't kill.
In your comment, Hardwired, you wrote, "Is my addiction to nicotine, and the process of delivering it to my bloodstream by vapor inhalation, any less harmful to my neurological state? Unfortunately, no one can say with any real certainty. No long term data has been collected with respect to this. The hypothesis was presented in this thread about the stimulative effect nicotine as a vasoconstrictor has on the body's arteries...which honestly scares me."
I know that you went through a very serious event when you had your stroke, and I understand how comments about vasoconstriction can sound scary. Most people, after going through things like what you went through, want to educate themselves about their illness and try to learn as much as they can. I applaud this! I respect very much your wanting to know more. It's what all health care professionals want to see. So please know that by no means do I wish to make it seem as if what you know about stroke or smoking is wrong. But the comment you wrote, that I just quoted, is what moved me to write this reply.
OK look, your not going to get a complete, healthy understanding of what vasoconstriction REALLY means to YOUR health by just googling it. One needs to really study anatomy and physiology to a pretty advanced degree in order to be able to fully contemplate how it may effect you personally. Lol, I'm not saying that your incapable of grasping it, bud. I'm just saying that it's really technically advanced crap that involves not just A&P, but pharmacology, cardiology, and a whole bunch of other ologies as well. So lets just keep things simple, OK?
You said nobody can say with certainty how this stuff will effect you. But your wrong. Your doctor can tell you. Your doctor has all the ologies down pat. He/she is a living, breathing, walking, talking google machine!! Your doctor is your go-to guy. With regards to certainty, nobody can predict the future. You could stop using nicotine today, jog 15 miles a day, eat carrots and celery exclusively for the rest of your life and still drop dead of a heart attack 10 years from now. The next time your at work, ask everyone if milk is good for you or bad for you. I'll bet you don't get a clear answer. Hell, I grew up before the invention of bottled water. Does that mean my life span has been shortened? Am I supposed to think that tap water can hurt me? My dog drinks from the toilet, and he seems OK.
There have been COUNTLESS studies done on nicotine for years!! Science knows GOBS of crap about nicotine. Nicotine is sold over the counter in all 50 states. It can be found in a patch form, a pill form, a gum, a lozenge, inhalers(both oral and nasal), and in tobacco. Tobacco, however is the only form that has been linked to over 400,000 deaths a year. Nicotine is EXTREMELY hard to overdose on, if not impossible, as long as you use it in the manner in which it was intended to be used. If nicotine had a chance of killing you, you would need a prescription for it. Hell, Chantix has a higher chance to be more harmful than nicotine by itself. Thats why you need a doctor to prescribe it. The electronic cigarette, in the opinion of most doctors, is nothing more than another alternative form of nicotine replacement therapy. It's the same as the gum or the patch. If your doctor has suggested to you that you should use a NRT, then your doctor should have no problem with you using an e-cig. But don't take my word for it. Ask your doctor. Get on the phone right now and call his clinic. Tell the lady that you have a question for the doctor and that you want him to call you back. He'll call ya.
I have some other posts that you might like to read about nicotine. Just click on my profile and check out some of the topics I've posted about it. We're all here to help in any way we can. You really have found a great place to connect with other vapers.....
In the weeks to come your gonna start to feel great. As far as your fear of vasoconstriction goes, I'll leave you with this. The 400 nasty chemicals found in tobacco has wreaked havoc on your cardiovascular system. Nothing even comes close to harming you in the way that smoking has. As I'm sure your aware, stroke can happen for many different reasons, including hereditary reasons, so why YOU had a stroke, only your doctor can tell you. But probably the one best thing that YOU can personally do to lesson the chance of it happening again is to stop using tobacco. If that silly little thing keeps you from smoking analogs, then us it, cause damn......
Simple, huh?
