i officially hate vtc 4-5

I really dont understand how these batteries are giving me so much greif....

I never seem to get constant power out of them and they dont last anywhere close to the full day. With my usage 5 times a day for about 10 minutes...

In my cartel they seem to have trouble firing for some reason I always have to press the fire button crooked and i litteraly have to find the spot to press for them to fire.

They usually work "fine" (of course I have to find the right spot to hit the button) for about half of the first deck and then it gives me less power than my disposable ego style battery (exagerating but im kindof p.o. about this whole thing)

Not only that but I dont even feel safe using them since half way through a fully saturated deck the mod/switch seems to get too warm for me to feel comfortable so i take a break. (about 4-5 pulls and not one RIGHT after another, i leave some time between pulls litterally the same as if i was actualy smoking)

What DOES work are my purple efest. I dont understand how these are supposedly rated to be lesser than the vtc's. they last me all day easily and seem to give me a consistant level of power. and nothing gets hot. and i dont have to press the button 6 times before finding the right spot... i just press it and it fires

Am I crazy? i wanna sell them since I thought they were supposed to be the best I probably have 5-6 of them and every time i pop out one of my efest and one of those in i ALWAYS end up popping in another efest. i hate doing that since I want to keep a good rotation going but its hard given the fact that theyre just not performing at all.

Ive heard of IMR and panasonic and other batteries and im probably going to be looking into those ...

Sorry for the venting (no pun intended) just cant seem to understand what the he*l is going on with these. people seem to praise these batteries?

I have had good luck with mine, so far. I also have the same problem with the fire button not hitting every time. I just had guessed that it was my cheap mods. They are the only 18650s that I have. I was going to purchase some more pretty soon, but had decided to get something button top instead. I am not too hard on mine. I only drip for a few hours in the evening.

I hate to hear you're having bad luck with them!

if I didnt know any better I would think it was the mod too. but i dont think its normal that with another battery things go 100% and with these its less than 50%

i guess people must like them so much since theyre "safer" from certain ratings but then again I havent really looked into it enough. I try to stay safe with builds and recomendations for setups by staying within the "norm"

I really don't have anything to compare them to. I of course am going from everything I read on the web. I bought the efest button top 18500s for my 4nine, but they are just a little to long. If I snug everything down, it autofires. I could back of my atty, but that is too close for comfort for me. I got xtar 18350s, I have read that they are only rated around 5A, so I am back to 18650 vtc4s... Oh well.

I guess that is one thing I love, and hate about this hobby. You will never get bored trying new things!

when I exclusively used 18650 set ups my go to battery was the VTC4 on my cartel and once I figured out where I like the button I never had a problem with it. It was just a matter of screwing/unscrewing the button a little until it felt right to me. It fired every time without fail though. Now that I have a 26650 ive been using efest and I think I like them better.

Im gonna try that... again lol

I really hoppe it will help. popped in an efest this morning, it should last me all day but the last decks of the day will be softer, so i braught my 4 and 5 with me which by memory are the same thing apart from internal differnces. ill play with the button at home.

I think theyre the same length as the efest. i mean theyre both flattop and both go snug without adjusting the pins on the mod so length seems to be legit the same...

It might be a difference in the thickness of the shrink wrap...

hmmm

Some mods don't like certain batteries. I use only the VTC 5 in my box and mech mods but it's because I have a lot of them and good results. They aren't always the best for every mech mod though. I stopped using my clones but a lot of them just don't adjust well for the sonys and gave me issues like you're talking about. I do know the efests are just rewrapped batteries though. Many are just a Sony VTC4 with the purple wrapping and others are LG batteries that were rewrapped. Most people do get a longer charge and life out of the Efest so those are probably the LG ones I don't know. The sony are pretty safe and work great for me but they don't hold that charge as long as I want sometimes. Not really an issue for me I have 4 pairs and a efest luc v4 charger. I just swap them out and enjoy.

same here!

For sure i will do it when they are finished but that might take a while haha. although i almost only use my 2 efests... and if theyre both dead only then will i put in a 5 or 4 or whatever is in my case at the time since theres the rotation.

p.s. I found 2 more vtc5 in my car that I had baught a while back and completely forgotten... i was really hoping an efest was in that little box in the glove compartment haha

Well you could always try google for that proof. It doesn't matter to me either way but I have seen emails from efest to curious customers that eventually led to them stating that yes they buy batteries unwrapped in bulk from other manufacturers and test them first and rate them and wrap them with their wraps. It only came up because vapors were taking off the wraps after testing them and finding them to not be rated how efest was rating them then finding both sony and LG identifier markings on the actual battery bodies. It's not really uncommon. Only a handful of companies actually make batteries and the rest buy in bulk and rebrand them. It's no different than a lot of electronics. Doesn't make then inferior. I still use their button top batteries. They work great in my VV devices. I just prefer the sony because it's what I know and am happy with in my mech mods and box mods. I'd have no problem using efest if I had some. It's just kind of weird when you see sony rate a VTC 4 at 30 amps and then you see an unwrapped efest with the same sony markings and efest has 35A on their wrapper. I think a lot of them are LG anyway that's why they hold a longer charge. I do know they rewrap and don't actually make their own. What they are is always different I think. If you need to find proof on that I'm sure there is some. I've seen it on various vapor groups but I don't have anything saved on it just for that reason. Probably out there in google land though.

I couldn't resist doing my own google search. there actually is a ton of info out there and the specifics on which LG batteries were rewrapped by efest. Basically I know sony, LG, panasonic, and I think one or two others actually make battery cells. Any other company buys the cells in bulk and rebrands them. Some people claim they are the ones the company didn't pass for use by their own branding but I don't think that's true. I think they welcome the wholesale and sell in bulk with the same quality. I only thought it was odd that Efest put their own numbers on them for amps which didn't match up with the original manufacturer. Like how LG rates their battery at 20A continuous and then suddenly with a purple efest wrap it's a 35A battery. I think it was a marketing decision so they'd sell better but I have to wonder if that's a little dangerous. Personally I've never seen one vent and not be totally safe so I'd use an efest but I own Sony VTC5 and use them just fine so I have no need to go with the efest. Anyway here's a picture that should give you a little proof. Both a sonyvtc4 and efest 35A battery unwrapped to reveal the same marking and same vtc4 etching.

Efests are great performers and many in-depth reviews of them attest to that. I think the issue is the advertised ratings.

As for cells and chargers, I buy only from reputable authorized dealers. There are many accounts of fake Sony and AW cells, and Nitore chargers out there.

im calling duracell tonight !!!

:robo:

lol. they just keep going, and going... and... wait... that's Energizer.

....

p.s. I found 2 more vtc5 in my car that I had baught a while back and completely forgotten... i was really hoping an efest was in that little box in the glove compartment haha

Have you ever stashed your VTC4s in the car too for long periods of time?

If so, storage temps could explain poor performance you are experiencing...

You do do know that the generic pickles are just re-wrapped Vlasic rejects right...? or is it Vlasic is a re-wrapped Claussen... I can never remember.

never got so technical with pickles... feels like im discovering a whole new dimension. sortof like when i got into rebuilding lol

If you get better performance out of your Efests than the sony vtc 4's you have then you might have the LG ones. Just going by what I've seen and heard I think those are more common and the general consensus is they hold a longer charge than the ones that are sony. I don't really know I love my efest button tops they last a very long time but that's in low power VV mods. I get decent life out of my VTC5's so I stick with what works. I think if you're building safe and using batteries that are rated for your purpose and not damaged then it's fine no matter what the brand or wrapping. I just wish Efest would rate them the same as the original manufacturer and not mislead people into thinking their 20 or 30A batteries are really able to do 35A continuous when it's not true. People see efest 35A and assume it's going to be safer to do crazy subohm builds than it is on a sony VTC5 and that's just not the case. I just keep my builds above .2 and blow clouds safely. I do use an efest LUC V4 charger. That thing is amazing.

I only have one set of EFests. I really like them. They are 18500's they work great in my mod, and fit better than the 18650's because they are button tops. I think my I may try a couple of sets of 18350's and 18650 button tops.

I also don't push my batteries too hard. My go to build is just a .5 ohm (26ga/3.1mm/Horizontal) I would hope that 8 Amps isn't too hard on a 15 Amp battery.
