Off to a decent start....

Ok, so today is my first full day of vaping. I started halfway through yesterday. I'm bouncing between Suicide Bunny's "Mothers Milk" 18 mg, and Tropic Monkey's "Tropical Monkey" 6 mg. Before today, I am a pack a day smoker. Some days more. Today, I have only had 3, and the day is almost over. I think this is going to work! Woo hoo!

So, out of curiosity, how long did it take you to quit cigarettes all together? Trying to set realistic goals for myself.

Thanks,

Michelle

I ordered my first ego setup online and it took about 5 days to get to me. During those 5 days, I disposed of all things "smoking", lighters, ashtrays, ciggy stashes in house & car, etc. All but one pack! Then I got my first vape mail! I threw out the last of the cigs and started vaping and have not had a cig since... The key I found, is to NOT have cigs around! Go all in! Ever since that day, no more smoking, only vaping! It's been 2 years now... You can do it! Just get rid of the cigs... Best of luck!

I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 28 years. I was quickly approaching 3 packs a day. It took switching to a higher nicotine 12mg to 24 mg and changing flavor profiles from tobacco to fruit flavors, and drinking a lot of water! I weaned off analogs in about a month. I think I had actually not smoked in about a week when I smoked the last one.

I agree with eL Cruz. As long as I had them around, I would smoke them. (no matter how bad they tasted!)

I finished my last cigar late in the day on 3/31, and picked up my vape-pen which I had just bought the day before. I had tried a few puffs on the e-cig to see how it works during the day, and on 4/1, I committed myself to ONLY vape! YES, I had cravings and thought several times about running to the tobacco shop, but I held strong and kept vaping. After a week or two, the cravings were less and less, and eventually, gone!

18mg is probably a good starting point for you. 24 may be too high, but would definitely stave-off the cravings when they get bad. I'm sure you're having more cravings when using the 6mg juice!

Took me about a week. but stayed with 24mg for a long time. I mix up 24 mg during high times of stress when I want an analog. Yes to this day I still have cravings. It is different for everyone. Just do your best to grab that Vape and vape till that urge subsides. Finding a flavor you can vape that curbs the craving IMO is the key.

Though I ditched the analogs when I started vaping, there are still days I "think" I want one! Then I remember how nasty they taste to me, and that pretty much takes care of the cravings!

I think you are well on your way! Keep it up!

When I started vaping I did both for five days and then went all in with vaping only. Everyone is different. Just do what works for you. The wonderful thing about vaping is that it's not an all or nothing kind of thing. If you fall off the wagon, don't be too hard on yourself. Just get back on and you'll be fine. For about 38 years I was a pack a day smoker. I tried everything on the market to stop but couldn't stay off the cigarettes for very long until I switched over. It's now been two and a half years since and I feel so much better! You'll get there, too. Good luck! :)

The day I started vaping was the last day I smoked a cigarette but my wife phased hers out over a couple weeks. Even going on 2 years for both of us she still uses 24mg and I dropped to 18mg but thats as far as I plan to go.

There is no right or wrong, just do what works for you and best of luck!

Thanks everyone for your advice on this. I have tried so many methods of quitting, none of them worked, so with Vaping, I have decided that I will vape through every craving, but if it becomes too much, I will have a cigarette (if there are any in the house). Yesterday I had two (very high stress in my life right now). But hey, 2 cigarettes in a full day is amazing! On that note, My goal is to not buy another pack of cigarettes. I have about 12 left in a pack. So we will see how it goes. Thank you all for your help.

try to keep them out of reach. meaning try not to keep them in your purse or on the counter at home or whatnot. maybe leave them in the glovebox of the car so that you would have to go outside to get them if at home or work, or if youre driving then it makes it a little harder to reach than in the center console!

Its all little habits that are going to take place with time!

Its great to see that youre taking steps! its moving forward just dont be hard on yourself and keep it one step at a time :)

Its funny about 6 months after quitting vaping we traded vehicles and found a full pack between the seats. It felt good to just throw them away without second thought.

GOOD? that was probably an AMAZING feeling!

To look at them and think nothing of it, just chucking them aside!

I was a 2 pack a day smoker for many years. I started with Chantix April 4th of this year. Started vaping at the same time. Went from 2 packs a day to just 3 or 4 cigarettes a day in like 3 days. Quit cigs completely April 24th. I only cheated 2 or 3 times after that by taking a puff and immediately put it out because it tasted nasty. Havent even tasted a cigarette in about 3 months. I still have half a pack in my motorcycle saddlebag which I need to throw away.

Totally agree with NOT having cigs where you can get to them. It's like I could not resist knowing they were in that drawer! If they are not there then there's no temptation and you turn to vaping instead. That doesn't mean I still don't 'think' about them but just knowing I have a backup there made all the difference in the world. I never realized how hooked I was with just those 5 cigs a day!

You are well on your way so do whatever works for you. If it's slow to give them up then you do what you have to do. I think you are doing great.

  • 1 month later...

It will be hard to set somethings, as yes, everyone is different. Your goal of quitting could come sooner if you keep to vaping the lower nicotine level liquids. If you say you want to quit smoking analogs, in say, a month. Make sure you keep minimizing your nic levels until then and make it happen! You just have to decide when you want to quit and make it happen!! You are already almost there!!!
