So here is a question. (I can't believe I'm jumping into the DIY mix - blame Nana for this one.) In my head I can figure out how to mix the flavorings, and then aadd that at, say, 30% to my nic base.

Is there a general "base" recipe if I usually vape a 70/30 mix at like 24 mg? Actually I want to go down in nic but a general idea would help.

If I had that, then I could add the flavoring, figuring in that that would dilute the nic further. Right?

I can tell you that my Nurse Practitioner, who is my primary care provider, is a big fan of them, since she has seen me stop smoking with them. I am in the masters program now to get my NP, and a lot of my instructors have discussed it with me, know people who have used e-cigs, and are all in favor.

As a nurse, I tell people all the time about e-cigs, and I direct them here, so they can get all the information, including reference to the FDA's concerns.

Certainly, chest pain can be a result of nicotine overdose. They even warn you about that with nicotine patches and gum. Or, for that matter, smoking. Does anyone remember when we were kids and started smoking and got "smoke sick"? Yuck - after all these years, I still remember that feeling. But to blame it on "e-cigarettes are bad" is irresponsible, in my opinion. And I'm a nurse.

The skin irritation - wow. Who knows? A PG sensitivity perhaps? Skin irritation generally comes, as others have said, from direct contact.

This is frustrating. I'm all for monitoring and all that but come on. How is VAPING dangerous while all the other nicotine replacement products laudable?

Ah Cherye, I don't have fibromyalgia but I am a student nurse practitioner (and an RN for 20 years) and I have managed people with the disease. It is TOUGH and there are so many potential triggers!!! I can't think of how or why vaping would trigger more pain but of course, it is a possibility.

Think back - is the weather changing where you are? Sleeping patterns? Allergies? ANything that would trigger an inflammatory response?

Nanna got a reaction from KaYoTiiC in Sweet Vapes Margarita - A Winner!
I'm one of those poor unfortunate souls for whom 35 years of smoking mentholds completely blew out my taste buds. Not for foods, mind you, so I didn't really know about it untiul I entered the wonderful world of vaping...and then couldn't taste all the fabulous juices everyone else was raving about. Even when I ordered extra flavor, I couldn't taste much.

I finally decided I would stick with the one juice I could taste and loved - Tasty Vapor's Atomic Cinnacide. But I kept hearing about Sweet-Vape's amazing flavors, and she ran such terrific sales on sample packs.

So I bit the bullet and ordered. I have 7 little 3 ml bottles to go through - the random flavors I ordered, and the freebie Fudge Brownie Dayna threw in, but I want to tell you about my first one.

I started with a fully charged battery on my OG mod and a brand new LR Boge cartomizer, and filled 'er up with Margarita. Wow, is all I can say. I am a Margarita afficiaonado from way back, and this tastes EXACTLY like one, except for the salt around the rim. I got a 70/30 blend and there are plumes of vapor, the throat hit is good (although it always is on a new LR carto), but the flavor is unusual, a little sweet, a little citrus-y.

On the web site it says that this is one of Dayna's favorites, but I have never seen it mentioned here. ALl I can say is that if you like Margaritas, GET THIS FLAVOR. To be able to taste something at long last, AND to have found an absolute winner that I will certainly be buying again - I am in heaven.

So, bearing in mind that I have only been vaping a little over 2 months, like most people I spent a lot and tried a lot - hardware, attys, new toys, juices. My very first PV, thank God, was a Joye eGo, which I still use all the time. At least parts of it.

I next got an eGo tank because the whole dripping/filling thing got to be cumbersome with driving, working, classes, etc. Awesome idea, by the way, and I adored it. Until the attys started getting gunked up from the bajillion different kinds of juices I tried. Then, not so much. Hard draws, crappy performance, leaks, and finally, pretty much dead.

Then I got a Stu's Illuminated Bottomfeeder Box Mod, aka Old Goat mod. I tried a 306 LR atty on it, which was OK, but the very best best best on it is a Boge LR cartomizer. And truly, this is the Nirvana of vaping for me. No hassle, no refilling throughout the day. Just have to remember to bring an extra battery (I am out of the house for 14 hours every day).

But I still like my Tank. More importantly, my HUSBAND still loves his tank best of all.

So I was talking to Vicki at Cignot.com (who is a treasure, a smart smart woman, and the very best at customer service in the whole world). She also loves her Tank but agrees that they can be a little high maintenance, so she helped me with some tips.

So. I take all of my eGo batteries and wipes them down with an alcohol prep pad. I am a nurse so I always come home with some in my pocket, and I wiped down the end, the threads, anywhere that juice might have gotten into stuff.

Then I took a page from Erika's post about the "Coke cleaning method". I did it because I knew those attys were truly gunked up and Coke really does eat away about anything. I soaked them for an hour or so, and then I came back, poured some Everclear in a bowl, and soaked them in there to get the Coke out. Attys, cartomizers, empty tanks - anything that had juice in them went through all of this. I took a booger sucker and blew the Everclear through the attys and cartos, and then I set them in front of the fan overnight to dry.

This morning, I did a dry burn a couple of times on the tank attys, stuck a clean, filled tank on, let it sit for about 30 minutes to let the wicking soak up the juice, and voila! Flavor, vapor production and draw like new. Only drawback was that I had to get up at 5 am to put it all back together for my hubby - he goes on duty at 6.

I know it sounds like a lot, but if using the tank is easy for him and has helped him kick a 35 year smoking habit just like that, and it saves me from having to buy new attys all the time, for me it's worth it.

Oh, and I'm also sticking now to juices I know don't clog things up as well - Tasty Vapors Atomic Cinnacide, Geoff's Blend, and Blue Bulls (lol). I get them 70/30 and the flavor is VERY strong and good every time.

    Hope this helps!

You're OK. NO ONE comes across the way they really are in the written word. You just keep teaching me about LR cartos and you and I are A-OK. I am your latest and surely most zealous convert. I would rather go naked than be without them!!!

Welcome to Vapor Talk, skh! When I first got mine I was so excited and then I HATED the juice! Of course, being new, I didn't know it was the juice I hated - I just didn't like what vaping was doing for me. But I kept reading and trying different things, and as of today it is 50 days since I had my last cigarette, so it does happen. Just don't pressure yourself. Keep trying new stuff as you learn more and as the budget allows.

And this is a great place to meet lovely people and learn.

I have to tell you that I turned my husband on to vaping after I started. At first he wasn't interested but when he saw how much I was enjoying it and that all of my unsuccessful attempts at quitting were gone in a puff of - uh - vapor, I think he was intrigued.

This is a guy who has 5 stents in his heart, a terrible family history of heart disease, his own cardiologist and a stack of medications.

He went to see said cardiologist yesterday, his BP was perfect, and they took him off of one of his heart meds, because he's doing so well. His cardiologist is THRILLED with him vaping!

And my own primary care provider - who is also my preceptor as I work toward my nurse practitioner certification - recommends vaping to her patients now when I am with her, and has me show people mine. She told me, "As far as I'm concerned, you can vape the rest of your life and not hurt yourself compared to what you were doing to yourself with cigarettes!"

So, today, the Loranns flavors that Jolly unloaded on me - er, I mean, ghraciously agreed to send me - heh - came in the post, and while I should have been studying Policies in Healthcare, I couldn't resist and added some Strawberry and some Cheesecake flavor to a rather blah juice I had sitting around. Meaning one I couldn't taste anyway.

And I must tell you that, as we speak, I am contentedly, and somewhat smugly, sitting here vaping away on the smoothest sweetest, nicest tasting thing I have vaped to date.

DIY for the win! And by the way, Jolly, AMAZING packaging in sending those bottles. Holy cow!

I am working on my Masters degree in nursing - ultimate goal, to be a nurse practitioner - after 20 years an an RN. In my Policies in Healthcare class, we are asked to choose a health policy issue on which we feel passionate, review the legislature in place or proposed, and discuss it as it relates to overall health policy. In other words, how does this regulation apply to a health problem.

Guess which topic I am taking on?

Yessssss - the proposed ban on e-cigarettes.

Even my own priomary care provider (also a nurse practitioner) is a big proponent of e-cigs after seeing ME quit smoking after she tried to help me quit countless different ways. In fact, she, as a former smoker, wants one to vape 0 nic juices because "she really misses it".

So - wish me luck. I'm hoping that out of this project I gain information I can share with everyone about how to effectively influence policy. This is still a democracy, damn it!

I second what everyone has said here about start ups costs, hardware, back ups, finding what works, etc. So far I have an ego kit (which I adore) and an ego tank kit (which I also adore and couldn't resist because everyone was raving about them). So that means I have two chargers (because if one went bad, I would be screwed without a charger!), um, 4 batteries, I bought some cartos (can't quite get the dang Taryn spin down right but I'm working on it), 6 attys, and some juice. And I want more juice.

BUT...I think of people who have other hobbies. Like I have a friend who is into wine, and she and her husband buy it by the case, just to try new flavors, etc. Other friends are into pipes, and they can't resist a beautifully made pipe, or some amazing tobacco for that special occasion.

For me, vaping is also a relaxing and fun HOBBY through which I've met some kind, intelligent, and creative people here. Had some relaxing times sitting with my cup of coffee and my shiny new ego Tank - you see what I mean?

Smoking analogs wasn't even a hobby or a pleasure for me anymore. It was a terrible, stinking, make-me-sick addiction - it was money that I HAD to spend. Vaping money is fun to spend. And hey - you can't take it with you, right?
